Decided to try a new Indian/Nepalese restaurant one Sunday and Mantra did not disappoint. Ticked away in a side street off the highway, I wasn't sure what to expect when I pulled up to the building. There were a few tables inside, but I would recommend taking your food to-go. The staff was thorough with confirming my food order before they handed me my food. After picking up my order, I was excited to try everything since the food smelled so good. The momo was good, the malai was amazing, and I really liked their butter chicken. I stopped here on Saturday 7/5 while in town visiting Family. A quick yelp search lead me here and I was not disappointed. The restaurant was empty so I opted to dine in. There was an odd smell upon entry but nothing that deterred me from eating. The cashier/waitress was friendly and the place was clean. It was pretty warm inside and a blast of ac would've made it more comfortable. I ordered samosas, shrimp vindaloo, and garlic naan. The food was FANTASTIC, came out hot and fresh! I ordered the hot spice level and it was hot in the best way. Flavorful and excellent portions and price. This was my most enjoyable meal of my trip. I saw a few ppl come in to pick up orders so it's mostly takeout but they do have ample seating for dining and the restroom was also clean. I will definitely return when I'm in town again. I was in town on business and hankering for some good Thai food. Yelpers did not steer me wrong, I got carry out from here twice. The inside of the restaurant is not much to speak of, no real ambience, uncomfortable chairs janky tables, etc..but they do a tremendous amount of carryout business which speaks to their good food. I had Butter Chicken with garlic naan one night and Lamb Tikka Masala with onion kulcha another night. I really enjoyed the Garlic Naan and the Lamb Tikka Masala. Both were flavorful and delicious. Butter chicken was a little bland, and the onion culture was very loaded with onions, a little bit too much for me, but if you LOVE onions then get it. Crispy and fresh , with many types of vegetables . 4.5/5 2) paneer pakora - I'm a big fan of paneer , and this one was not bad . I do think the version w/o the dough is probably better . 3.5/5 3) malejkhu fried fish set - what a pleasant surprise and an excellent dish . Small cafe/restaurant. Service was very good. Had pappadums with chutneys followed by a medium Madras Chicken and garlic naan. Delicious curry and large naan - completely filled my appetite. Stranded in Dallas, may as well make the best of it. I found this place on Yelp which it was close to my hotel. I walked to the restaurant but the city didn't have a continuous walkway. Which could pose danger to pedestrians; which pedestrians are rarely seen in Texas anyway. I arrived at 11am as it opened. The waiter was very friendly. Water was served immediately with menu. I ordered a medium spicy butter chicken and garlic nann. The food prep time was slightly long but it was worth the wait. The food and utensils were brought together. The portion was good enough for one or maybe two small appetite people. The taste of the sauce was scrumptious and the chicken breast was tender. The garlic nann was soft and and slightly crunchy with a mixed texture. The garlic flavor enriched the nann itself. If I ever get stranded again in Dallas, this will be my place to go. Mantra offers incredible Indian-Nepalese fusion food. The establishment was fairly humble. It's in a run-down shopping center attached to a gas station. Our server was very sweet. I came with a large group and the kitchen genuinely struggled to keep up. Our food came out at several different times. We asked for garlic naan which seemed to flummox them. They could have and should have upsold a lot more of the group on mango lassi, but brought us bottled water instead. I ordered the aloo gobhi lunch special which came with basmati rice and a pickled chutney. It was delicious and super affordable. This hole-in-the-wall is definitely worth checking out. This was one of my favorite Indian cuisines I've ever enjoyed. I always try a place's chicken tikka masala as a benchmark to evaluate the entire menu. The sauce, with several heat choices, was amazing. The chicken was all white meat and perfectly prepared. There is definitely more sauce than meat but because the sauce was so amazing, I didn't feel cheated. I love the sauce on the rice, also top notch and perfectly prepared. Or dipping the nan, a must have, in it. The vegi samosas were crispy and delicious. Their channa masala was next level as well as stunning in presentation. I didn't finish it because I was focused on the tikka masala. I ordered this thru Uber Eats so I didn't experience the restaurant decode and ambiance. I will definitely visit in person soon. My husband and I have been enjoying Indian food for decades and thought we would try this place. My husband tried to order two different entrees and the waitress said no, they can't make it. Not sure what that meant so he went with a 3rd option. We ordered the samosa chat. It sounded interesting and different. It could have been good if it wasn't slightly warm with cold spots letting me know it was microwaved and not freshly made. The table next to us got the regular samosa and it did look good. The entree, chicken tandoori, was so dry that it had to be sitting around for a while and also reheated. For the lamb tikka marsala some pieces were tender and some we so chewy it was hard to eat and the sauce was not the best. The garlic naan was good. We won't be back. read more
