Cute ambience and nice place to grab some tapas while exploring Sintra! We got the chorizo, octopus, shrimp, egg with Portuguese sausage, and spare ribs. Service was pretty slow (but typical). Food was quite yummy, but my boyfriend thought the food was on the greasy side. I loved the shrimp! So flavorful! Octopus was also delicious, but swimming in grease. The chorizo was solid. The spare ribs were tasty, especially with the lemon juice on top, but was quite salty. The egg with Portuguese sausage was pretty weird and had a mushy texture. Wouldn't recommend that dish. Located at the top of a street, you'll find Tascantiga. Small little plates of tapas that is affordable and delicious. The codfish dumplings were good. The steak with sweet potato purée and mushrooms were very good. The cabbage soup was excellent. Should have tried to chorizo lollipops. The smoked chorizo bread pudding was interesting. After exploring Quinta de Regaleira, which was a larger place than expected, we made our walk back to the Sintra town center to grab some lunch. We didn't have a plan for lunch, but walked around and found this restaurant that looked appetizing. We were quickly seated at a table outside and given an English menu to choose the tapas. We ended up sharing between four people the cod dumplings, mini tenderloin, pork cheeks confit, and pumpkin petit gateaux. I enjoyed the cod dumplings, which resembled fritters more than dumplings. The mini tenderloin was another hit, with the great mesh of sweet potato and mushroom sauce dosed on the tenderloin. The pork cheeks confit were underwhelming, on the other hand, we didn't finish all of it. My friend had most of the pumpkin petit gateaux for dessert and she seemed to enjoy it. It was an overall enjoyable lunch session and the owner/manager of the restaurant was so friendly and attentive. He spoke great English and was very enthusiastic about the food, asking us if it was good or not. He even told us to stop taking pictures and eat because the food isn't good if it wasn't warm! It was a nice gesture and banter, but sorry; you're talking to two Yelp Elites over here, even our friends have to wait haha. read more

Mediocre. Was disappointed. The service was fine. Seems this restaurant is very much a tourist trap, the turn and burn. I thought the food was just okay. Neither one of us finished our sandwiches and the goat cheese appetizer was so strong it was almost like blue cheese so beware it's very strong. The tuna sandwich was good. The steak sandwich was very tough, wasn't a fan at all. The sandwiches come with fries, however the waiter recommended doing one with fries and one with potato wedges so we did that, but when it was served it was two things of fries, so I told him - but much to our surprise we liked the fries way better. Wouldn't order the potato wedges. They are both plain. The sangria was good, served in a pretty dish. What drew me to this place initially was suggested it had a great view but I thought the view was just okay. We were lucky enough to sit on the patio, otherwise I do not believe there is a view from the inside. The wait wasn't long, but there was always a line to get in. When we walked up to wait in line a woman passed and told us she had been the night before and the food was terrible - we risked it - although in the end I wouldn't disagree with her. We are foodies, not ones to leave food left behind and we didn't finish any of the 3 items we ordered and I think that speaks for itself. read more

After an afternoon spent walking around Quinta da Regaleira, we were tired and eager for some lunch. This spot is so cute and we were lucky to score a table outside. The dishes are tapas style, so order a few to share. Cod dumplings: These are fried cod fritters and I really enjoyed them. They are light and tasty. Mini tenderloin: Super tender and juicy. The sweet potato and mushroom sauce was divine and a great complement to the tenderloin. Candied pork cheeks confit: Tender with a mushroom sauce. I thought it tasted slightly gamey. Pumpkin petit gateaux: Great dessert! The cake was soft and not too sweet. The warm cake went well with ice cream. Their potato wedges looked really good at other tables and I wished we ordered some. I liked everything we ordered at Tascantiga! Service was great and you know they care about the quality of their food when the waiter tells you to stop taking pictures of the food and just eat. read more

On our day trip to Sintra we wanted to find a really good place to have lunch, lucky for us Yelpers know how to navigate folks to the right place. So far the food in Portugal hasn't let us down, and this place wasn't about to start. It's a cute tapas place off the path so it will take a good effort from google maps and your sense of direction to help you find it. I'd recommend the toasted ribs, the codfish dumplings, shrimp, and the chorizo pops. All very tasty and bursting with flavor. Food came out quite expeditiously so that was definitely a plus. We ordered the sangria but I wasn't a fan, it tasted more like a cold mulled wine with a seltzer base. Overall this place is definitely worth a stop on your journey around Portugal. read more

If you have to pick one place to eat at on a day-trip to Sintra, this is it! Its a tapas style restaurant, which is perfect for whether you're in a big group or a small one. You get to have a lot of dishes! We ordered about 6-7 items, and honestly, there was nothing wrong with either of them. Octopus blades, Lagareiro style: My first time having octopus, and definitely the right way to start! Candied pork cheeks, Tascantiga style: Quite delicious Toasted spare ribs with pepper sauce: The meat just came off the bone so easy! Really nice sauce too! Per staff's recommendation four of us ordered two tapas each. This speed is to try many different options, and was plenty of food. Very reasonably priced, with dinner, appetizers, a bottle of wine, pitcher of sangria, dessert, and after dinner drinks for four costing about 140 Euro. Would recommend, but would be difficult for a large group, we had tried to visit with a group of eight a couple days prior and we're unable to be seated. The waiters speak English and they also have an English menu, so don't worry. I got (and would recommend): Bolinhos de Bacalhau: Codfish balls. Delicious. After a little trek around the palace in Sintra, the wife found this spot for lunch. We got there right as they opened. We ordered four small plates, and a soup and the food came out quite quickly. The fried cuttlefish was our favorite, especially dipped in the squid ink aioli. The octopus legs with fried onions we're pretty oily but good as well. I wasn't so keen on the codfish with chickpeas, but the prawns were to die for, especially their garlicky lemon sauce. We ordered some bread, more like stale dinner rolls, but for dipping into that sauce, they served their purpose. Really nice terrace and a chill, relaxed spot for lunch. Would recommend. read more

Yummy tapas that made for a perfect lunch stop in between exploring all of the beautiful places in Sintra. We were seated immediately, and we didn't need a reservation despite it being quite crowded and busy. The service is very efficient - you just mark down everything you want to order with a pencil (they provided an English menu). We ordered four dishes, which was just enough to get extremely full for two people. The dishes were presented in cute clay dishes and wooden boards (I saw other tables had what looked like meat lollipops and food in flower pots). We got the cheese from Azeitão, candied pork cheeks confit, plate of charcuterie, and fried chorizo balls. The cheese was pretty tasty and had sweet and smoky elements from the fig and smoked ham. The pork cheeks were extremely tender and coated in a thick mushroom-y brown sauce. The chorizo balls were pretty good (not too oily or dry). The charcuterie was just okay - but it sort of made me turn away from trying cured meats during the rest of the trip since it wasn't as tasty as the jamon from Spain or even just the prosciutto from Eataly in NYC. I liked all of the dishes, but nothing really stood out (hence the 4/5) but it was still a delicious meal that kept us fueled with energy for the remainder of the long day! read more

Great Portuguese tapas restaurant in the heart of Sintra! Beautiful setting, dining room is intimate but open, with open windows looking over beautiful gardens. Sangria had lots of fruit and was not too strong. We got a variety of tapas and enjoyed everything, especially the gazpacho and the chipped cod with potatoes. Another great find in Sintra. I was disappointed that all of the outdoor tables were already taken so we had to sit inside. The outside tables were exactly the feel I was going for as they were in a courtyard type setting overlooking a nice view. 1) You're in magical Sintra, so you already have good taste. 2) You're dining in Tascantiga, so you are now practically a travel expert and should be given your own travel dining show with a big crew in tow so that people know you're important, obviously. 3) Don't be afraid to try new foods. We either loved or at least liked everything we got. 4) Get the pumpkin dessert. It's like a warm pumpkin souffle meets a cake with a side of ice cream. Delish! I went to Tascantiga for dinner after a long day of sightseeing in Sintra. There were plenty of tables inside for patrons and around 6:30pm, the restaurant started getting full. The interior is quite eclectic. The chairs are all unique, as if someone went to different garage sales, purchased individual chairs, and placed them in this restaurant. Upon seating, the wait staff brought a paper menu where you can mark the items you want. Once you're done, the wait staff will come over and verify each item that you order. They will also bring over complimentary slices of bread in a bag. Unlike at other restaurants that bring bread, appetizers, etc. to your table that you have to reject, the bread here is free. I ordered 3 menu items -- the octopus blades, the fried prawns, and the fried cuttlefish. The octopus blades come sliced up in a sauce of olive oil and are topped by fried garlic. The octopus has a bit of a bite to it. It's not as soft and tender as the octopus that I've had in other places. This one was my least favorite of the three items that I ordered mainly because all I could taste towards the end was the coating of olive oil. The fried prawns were fairly large and were de-shelled except for the head and the tail. It comes in a sauce that I thought was too lemony. The fried prawns themselves were tasty, but there was nothing particularly special about them. I recommend consuming these without the lemony sauce. Finally, the fried cuttlefish was my favorite. It was fried beautifully. It had the chewy texture in the middle, similar to calamari. It comes in a mayo sauce that is mixed with cuttlefish ink. At first, the combination of the cuttlefish and mayo was quite tasty. Once I realized that it was mayo, it wasn't as appealing anymore. Overall, the food was good, but only average compared to similar dishes at other restaurants. read more

Our favorite dish was the fried chicken wings- super tender and great flavor. Don't get the chorizo- very over cooked and large chunks of fat. The bread was fluffy and went amazing with the entire meal. The potato skins are basically soggy potato chips. The cod cakes had a great flavor and soft consistency. The beef cubes were a bit tough for those who like their meat on the rarer side. Awesome restaurant between the Quinta do Regaleira and the train station in Sintra. It's in a small courtyard that's off of a main street so it's quiet but everyone loves the food so it's super busy. You order from here like you would dim sum; checking off items from one of several languages they offer, including English. We ate several things and they were all delicious. I was also surprised by the mojito which was (no exaggeration) the best I've ever had. It was sweet, refreshing, and stuffed to the gills with mint. It was just what we needed after walking nearly 10 miles before noon. This place is especially welcoming; because of the rain, we were quite cold, so the waiter went and grabbed a space heater for us. Additionally, we were a bit pressed on time, so the wait staff made sure to have our meals as the priority. This, combined with the simple and causal aesthetic really speak to the beauty of this restaurant. The food itself is authentic and clean. We ordered the octopus blades a la lagarerio, the fried potato peels with garlic and oregano mayo, marinated olives, and the roasted chorizo, alongside two bowls of the porcini mushroom soup with sautéed chestnuts. We also ordered some OJ as hangover cures. Our total was less than 60 euros for 6 people. I've never been happier to pay for this. TIP: Stay here for a long time. read more

I have no idea how this place has the best reviews in Sintra. It's by far the worst food I have had in all of Portugal. I would describe it as mediocre cafeteria food at best. The interior is noisy. After an amazing day in Sintra, Lauren and I finished off with a meal to remember. The egg with the Portuguese smoked sausage was a nice surprise as the sausage was a mashed texture with which we combined the egg into. This flavor I can still taste in my mouth, I wish I knew how to recreate it. The charcuterie was your classic assortment of delicious meats and cheeses, however what I thought was unique about this one was its inclusion of little solid pieces of jam. I would best describe them as a cubed, spreadable fruit leather. It was a different approach to incorporating the fruit component, but I'm not complaining as I found it clever and tasty all the same. The chorizo was the best sausage I have had on this backpacking trip and I'm writing this review almost a month later. It was warm and had a great texture and taste; chef's kiss. I don't like olives, but I decided to try them on this trip, and these are the best ones that I have tried thus far. An olive oily and garlicy tasting marinade helped created something that tasted somewhat nice on my palette for being something I don't normally enjoy. Lauren and I didn't really enjoy the fried potato peels much, we were thinking more of an American version when we ordered. They came out as potato chips with an aioli- which we love- but with so much other amazing food, these were at the bottom of our list for this one. This little pumpkin cake was a great way to end our meal. It was like a lava cake which a rich center that paired lovely with the ice cream. A perfect balance to end an excellent meal. read more
