The builder of our townhome in OTR put our furnace and AC on the second floor to get more airflow to the third floor. We ran into a problem with the AC drain overflowing to our kitchen ceiling in the second floor. We called Tarvin for help as we needed someone soon. Dave came over the next day and we got service at a reasonable price. Dave not only fixed our problem but spent time helping us figure out how to prevent the issue from happening again. He took us step by step through the process and even explained that it's actually pretty normal to have some buildup in the pvc pipes from dripping water lines. This was above and beyond and much appreciated. And we weren't gouged the service. When this happened we were concerned because we have had bad experiences with plumbers in the past. Just an update to the review posted about 18 mos. ago. In the thousands of dollars I spent with Tarvin to have our plumbing issues resolved, we paid to have the plumbing beneath the sink repaired due to a leak. Needless to say, their repair hasn't held. The pvc piping they installed won't even stay together. It only held for a few months and then just came apart-- leaving us with having to have a bucket beneath the sink. I'm just frustrated enough to write this updated review now because I have to pay to have another plumber come out to fix their work. These people are predatory and unprofessional. Would not recommend. What would've been nice is if the owner of this plumbing company saw the invoice number on my receipt in the last post and tried to reach out-- but he didn't. Instead he implied that we didn't even have his company service my mother's home. Having integrity in your business -- owning a job and its result means something. read more

I woke up this morning, ( Jan 21 2025) and had no hot water coming from my sink faucet ... No water on the hot side at all. The overnight temps were below zero, the water supply is on the outside wall = frozen pipes. I called a number of local plumbers, and no one had anyone that could get to me quickly. Tarvin initially told me I would have to be a work in, understandably, I was not the first call for frozen pipes! Maybe 20 mins later, I received a call back from Tarvin and they told me a tech could meet me at my house in 45 mins. When the tech arrived (cannot remember his name), he told me they pulled him from his office duties for the day to take care of my issue. He was polite, friendly and got right to work. Within 15 mins he had the frozen line thawed, with no apparent leaks (fingers crossed). Polite, professional and reasonably priced. They also recommended a permanent fix for the freezing issue. Contacted Tarvin on a Sunday night via their Website. Was contacted by email first thing the following Monday morning and elected standby service and was told if someone became available they would contact me. Contacted me about a hour and a half later and technician was at the house within the hour. No job is straight forward and to the point , there are always little issues and problems that need to be addressed or fixed , the service technicians did a excellent job finishing everything up and took their time with attention to detail. Hi, our first YELP service review ever. In reading reviews it seems highly dependent on who actually shows up from this company. We were quoted 165 to show up in the driveway plus 20 for a clogged sink drain. The bozo shows up, arrogantly mansplains to my wife, " well ma'am I can get out of here for $300-$400." Tried to upsell her a $2000 shower remodel (instead of helping her change faucet washers) and threw his scheduling lady under the bus for not knowing what she was talking about when she quoted the price for the drain- Classy! Rightly so, my wife asked the clown to leave immediately. This was a terrible customer experience, can't emphasize enough how little I think of Tarvin plumbing/remodelling/restoration or whatever they are. This was a total joke and waste of our time. My kitchen sink was sagging after only six years. I contacted Tarvin Plumbing last week. Veronica explained the procedure: Sink needed to be disconnected on day one. Countertop fabricator would make sink repair on day two. Sink would be be reconnected on day three. It took me several calls to coordinate arrangements with Tarvin and the countertop fabricator who installed my sink six years ago. This Wednesday Chris came from Tarvin and disconnected the sink. He also informed me that my faucet needed to be replaced and that he could install it when he came today to reconnect the sink. I purchased the faucet. The fabricator came yesterday and made the repair to the sagging sink. Chris came back again today to reconnect and to install the faucet. Chris was professional and pleasant. He worked efficiently and quietly. He swept the under-the-sink cabinet. He tested to make sure there were no leaks, ran the dishwasher, and then asked me to check his work. Everything was done to my satisfaction. I highly recommend Tarvin Plumbing. I used them years ago when I lived on my farm. Plumbing is expensive, but when they do it right, it's worth it! Fun Fact: Tarvin Plumbing has been in business for 108 years and is now being managed by their 4th generation. Shout out to Tarvin for coming out and fixing a clog in our sink. My landlord called them and within 20 minutes I got a call that someone was on their way. 30 minutes later he was at my door - talk about service! I am having guests stay the weekend and I was anticipating having this problem for at least a few days and Tarvin saved me from a hostess nightmare and a sink full of dirty dishes. Full disclosure - I can't speak to the price since my landlord booked them, but I can say that they were insanely quick and the nice man that came was very friendly and worked quickly to solve the problem. I called Tarvin first thing Monday morning to see about getting a gas line run for a new stove. The girl explained they have two different ways to schedule an appointment. 1) Choose a day and they will be out first thing around 830am. Or 2) give them your schedule over the next few days and if they finish a job and can fit you they'll call and see if that works for you. Well I work 8am-430pm Monday to Friday, and apparently those are their only service hours. Luckily, I was off work on Tuesday and asked if there was anyway they could fit me in on one days notice and they said they would try. I got a call around 10:30am Tuesday saying they could be there in 30 minutes. Perfect! The guy showed up, installed everything for the gas line from the basement to the new stove and was finished within an hour and a half. I wasn't super impressed with their price, it seemed a little high to me, but I've never had this type of work done before, so it might be right in line for the industry. It was $80 for parts and $180 for labor. But the guy was already there, and I hate having to schedule stuff like this, so maybe I paid for the convenience of not having to look for someone else and get quotes, etc. I was glad they were able to accommodate my schedule. read more

UPDATE: Tarvin did send unexpected compensation for the vanity and refund. They (unexpectedly) went above and beyond to fix the situation so I will revise to 5 stars. STEER CLEAR- here's my notes and a photo. Up front I discussed with Ellis I wanted to keep to $120 bill. Ended up over $180 ( even with his "gracious $25 discount "). Didn't have parts to fix pipes even when I discussed what I needed on phone. I Went to HD after he told me 3/8 size needed. It needed to be 1/4. Luckily I checked. He was in his truck when I returned from Hd and claimed most of the time I was gone, he was cleaning the pipes. charged me for parts at end I didn't know I was getting charged for. Why didn't he have me get them when I was at Hd? He ended up using a completely different part than he was originally going to use that I grabbed just in case at hd. I never knew I was going to be charged $24 for additional parts until he was done. Then he said he could take them off after they were put on ? Also, when he was there about an hour and hadn't began soldering, he let me know he could leave if I wanted him to. Called to complain and spoke to i believe mike... he's a piece of work What a joke. These folks are extremely professional and very reasonable in their rates. I had two outside faucets as well as my inside sink that leaked. With a finished basement a previous plumber said the outside one would need to be replaced which would involve cutting through the inside drywall. Tarvin replaced a broken flush valve on my guest toilet. I had purchased a replacement valve thinking of doing the work myself, but decided to let a professional do it. I asked if the valve purchased by me was acceptable. I was told after it was installed that it was about an inch shorter than the original. Because of that, I have to now hold down the flush handle until the bowl empties, and the supply valve now constantly leaks water because the float does not go up high enough to turn it off. So after the $214 payment, I still have a defective toilet. I contacted Tarvin and offered to purchase a new flush valve and supply valve from them if they would not charge another installation fee. They refused. They refused to offer any consideration for the problem. I feel that a professional plumber should have told me that the flush valve would not work rather than install it and then tell me it wouldn't work properly. read more

Tarvin has saved the day for my wife and I twice. First we had something burst on a bathroom sink that led to an unfortunate small flood. We feared the fix would be costly and a hole would end up in the wall, but nope. Tarvin came as fast as they could, fixed the valve, no damage to the wall and it was under $100. Next, we had a clog that just wouldn't go away despite a paycheck's worth of clog remover, so I called Tarvin again. 30 minutes later clog gone and everything in good working order. I hired Tarvin because of their high ratings and common sense approach to diagnosing a storm drain repair. Unfortunately, on this multi-step repair they either miscommunicated or mislead me a few times. Despite considerable attempts to communicate somethings were not completed as contracted and discussed. One example which seems completely out of character, considering the reviews- one of the drains that had just been cleared of debris and roots by a Tarvin plumber was not covered up nor repaired to prevent more debris from falling in. I ended up configuring a temporary fix with things I had on hand. Our agreement was I would supply material so it and the other downspout that needed connected would be repaired. When I went to purchase supplies I was told not to purchase anything yet. When I gave them the opportunity to follow through on what was discussed they basically told me -it was my problem. The other problems were annoying but I could overlook them. In general I imagined a much better outcome considering the other reviews and spending 7000+ dollars. read more

As a first time home owner I always get nervous when something goes wrong and I need to call a company for help. I have been taken advantage of by companies before and always worry I will get someone less than honest. My kitchen sink was backing up and food was coming out in my laundry area. I called Tarvin after hours hoping to get someone the very next day. They promptly returned my call the next morning and not only sent someone out they also worked around my schedule. If you're thinking about hiring these people, don't do it. The owner Mike is a dick and I got a bad vibe from him from the git go and shoulda listened to my gut instinct. The workers were unpleasant and not very helpful. Wanted to run in and run out while installing crappy product. They started to install the wrong material and got downright nasty when I made them change it and I think after that they did a purposely poor job. Paid these people a lotta money and when all was said and done they never would come and correct any of the problems. Took my money and ran. I think it was a reputable business 2 or 3 decades ago but the son or grandson mike took it over and doesnt seem to care much. They got a sister business in florida too so he's got a nice excuse to travel to florida alot and doesnt get too concerned about the business reputation here. read more
