Tart is one of my favorite places in the valley to get croissants and fresh baked bread! The apricot croissants are particularly good! They aren't overly sweet, and have the perfect amount of filling in them! Customer service is always excellent here, and comes with a smile. Lacking in customer service and options. This store has only a few products, so etimes good, sometimes not. But they treat customers like garbage. I stood waiting in the store while two people looked at me, turned and went back to playing on their cell phones. So i turned around, left and will never go back. There are plenty of great shops around who are good to ier customers. Tart needs to hire people who arent tarts. read more

I am actually happy that my first ever Yelp review is for Tart. I just moved to the area and needed some pastries for work. There were not a lot of options open before 9 so I was praying to the pastry gods that this place lived up to all of the reviews. I grabbed an assortment of items, including a chocolate croissant and apricot croissant. Let me tell you... one bite into my apricot croissant was nearly orgasmic... soooo good and buttery. Right on the main drag in Northampton, this is a small bakery/cafe with a few very good breads and small offering of baked goods. The cranberry pecan bread is awesome, and makes for a great base for turkey sandwiches, or just ripped apart and devoured on it's own. But for me, their olive ciabatta is the star, the best I've had with large, moist chunks of olive. Coffee is OK, nothing special, but not too bad. We stop in every time we're up here. read more

Really great pastries. Apricot croissant is my favorite. Definitely some of the best/most authentic and high quality baked goods in the area (along with hungry ghost, bread euphoria.) staff is sweet and hip. I love this place in November I went there with this guy Shawn I was dating it was a cozy little place with great espresso and I had hot water and lemon Shawn had espresso and we shared some amazing desserts we had the whole place to out selfs for. Since my last review, I have come around on Tart, mainly because of their pies. They have a small daily selection of meat or vegetarian single-serving pies for less than $6. I find ginger generally overpowering, but found the pork and ginger pie had the right balance. I also really enjoyed their egg and cheese pie. Stopped in for the first time yesterday . . . Tart bread is worth making a special trip for. Best ciabatta loaf I've ever tasted.

The Chai lacked flavor and spice and tasted watered down. The Almond Croissant was flavorful although it was cut in half in order to be filled. It was also $14 for two medium chai, and 2 almond croissant. Service was poor and the walls were bare. Not a very inviting environment. read more

I've been here a few times, and so far have found it to be hit or miss. The almond meringues are good, and the bread we've had has been good, but some of the pastry is really so-so. A lemon meringue tart was so mediocre that I took a couple of bites and was uninterested in finishing it. I love dessert, so throwing away baked goods is not standard operating procedure. I'll be back, but may stick to the bread over the pastries. My favorite bread in the valley, though, is El Jardin. read more

croissants and pastries are outstanding. No question. Ciabattas and baguettes as well. Prices for full loafs are high (4.50 to 7.00) a small roll $1.50 ...realllllly?? Would be nice if there were some or simply a few items that would be more price point accessible for working class people. that's how you introduce people to something new and really great , which you have. ......It's hard for many people to be able to appreciate the high quality when a roll is $1.50. Staff are very pleasant. I too want to be socially responsible and fully support food that is prepared freshly and without additives but with so many disparities in our culture.......let's not create a divide with food and turn food into something only the upper middle class and above can access. When I travel globally I see fresh and organic food sold everywhere in open air and farmers markets for so much less than I see here in the Valley and in the states. Wow - what a great addition to Northampton. The sweet pastries are delicious, the savory stuff is filling, and the coffee is by the same people behind Northampton Coffee and Amherst Coffee, so it's already the best in town. The first time I had one of their baguettes it lifted me off my toes -- seriously one of the best baguettes I've had outside of France. They've become a semi-daily staple. As part of the Northampton/Amherst/Greenfield Coffee café group, their beverage program is excellent (huge fan of the espresso!) but with the selection of diverse breads and show stopping desserts, Tart is a must visit in the area! read more

Not a bad spot, and a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I love the aesthetics of the place; sleek, understated, modern. To my mind it's a good place to converse with companions while enjoying a coffee and a pastry and then continueing along with one's day, it's not really a place that lends itself to lingering. Unfortunately, they do not have proper glassware for espressos, cappuccinos and other coffee beverages which for me mars the experience. Having exclusively paper cups in a nice place such as this dampens my enthusiasm considerably. Like wine, beer and cocktails, coffee beverages are simply nowhere near as good in paper cups. That being said I'm cheering for the place, and hope that in the near future they can provide their customers with a fully realized coffee experience which the atmosphere of the place hints at but ultimately fails to deliver. read more

Went in for the first time yesterday, had an amazing chicken / mushroom pie which was so buttery, flakey and warm. It was perfect. Grabbed a coffee and a ham and cheese baguette for the road. Everything was amazing. I'm not going to compare it to anything else it town because it's in a league of its own. Completely different style, local ingredients, even the honey was local organic - from deerfield! ( I asked ) The staff was smiling, recommended their favorites treats and overall I had an excellent experience, looking forward to another one of those amazing pies tomorrow for lunch! read more

Almost broke my tooth on their lavender lemon bar. Not only was the crust hard as a rock, the filling was incredibly sour. There was no taste of lavender other than the whole buds of lavender sprinkled on top. Terrible. read more

I have reviewed Tart Bakery before and just have to comment again. I love the almond croissants. Today I tried a special they made ... pumpkin croissant. I can honestly say it was great. I have decided that Tart is worth the 40 min. drive from my house since I combine my visit with other shopping in Northampton. Wish I lived closer, but my diet would suffer if I did. The staff is great also, always a smile and a "good morning" when I walk in the door. Keep up the good work guys and I will visit again in afew weeks. read more

So far I've been here twice and both times I was pretty happy with what I got. Lately I've been chauffeuring my wife around to her multiple physical therapy appointments while her hand heals (tendon damage). So I've decided to make the best of it and explore the food landscape of Northampton with a focus on light fare/coffee. We've driven by this place multiple times and my wife has been wanting to stop by, but we never have until recently. Anywho I found this place while doing a search for coffee and thought... coffee and a baked treat why the hell not. They had a pretty amazing Ethiopian coffee that I got for a dollar off (check-in coupon). The hardest thing was choosing what to get, they had multiple sweet and savory offerings (I prefer savory). I decided on the almond hazelnut brioche since my boo has a sweet tooth. Perfect accompaniment to the coffee. The brioche was flaky and sweet and the hazelnut center was amazing. 2nd time we went was a couple of days later (in the area for vet visit). We got the almond croissant, and a ham and cheese croissant. Both were pretty awesome although I felt the almond croissant was a little heavy/dense (I'm being very nit picky). One thing I will say is the 1st day I went they had alot more to offer which is probably due to the fact that I got there ~2.5 hrs earlier so if you want alot of choices I would show up before 10:30am. They also have one large table in the center of the room but no chairs so don't expect to kick your feet up and read a book while chowing down on your delicious treats (I was a little disappointed). The people who ran Bakery Normand retired, and this place now rents the spot. I ordered a couple of pies from them for Thanksgiving. Pumpkin pie was so-so (but I'm not a pumpkin pie fan to begin with), the apple pie was excellent. Their staff are friendly. Seems like they have a nice selection of pastries and things. Holy cow. I just stopped in to Tart to pick up an almond croissant, which is delicious here, and saw these ham and cheese baguettes just out of the oven. Phenomenal. A few weeks ago I had a meringue with sliced almonds in the bottom - one of the best I've ever had, and I love meringues. I don't Yelp, but this bakery has forced me to join the Yelp world. Such a solid bakery. At times, I find myself going completely out of my way to go there. One quibble: the scones are fairly pedestrian.

This bakery is amazing! Everything I had was wonderful. The ham and cheese croissant was buttery, tender, and perfect. The pan de higo (fig bar) was chewy and nutty. I am regular at Amherst Coffee ( 2 times p/day). For espresso they can not be beat. Pastry from tart is all over the place. Clearly they have a quality control issue. Today got the almond croissant. Looked burnt, smelled burnt, was burnt. The whole rack for this item should have been dumped. How they can serve this is beyond me. On the right day they are very good. Clearly they have a consistency problem, especially with the baker who makes the product for Sunday. Always burnt. Management get it together! read more

Was priced higher than other places in town, and quality was so-so. Very slick environment, but maybe the chef was off the day I was there. Baguette was crisp, but flavorless. Croissant was bready, not flaky like it should be. Need to work on their chops. In a town of good bakeries, not quite cutting it. Coffee good but also overpriced. read more

This was the WORST experience ever. They were understocked, the music in the cafe was annoying, and the eating surfaces looked dirty. My wife ordered an overpriced "artisan" muffin and it was soggy at the bottom. I ordered an overpriced stuffed baguette and it was burned and the inside not baked--chunks of unbaked dough and flour. Also, someone from the back of the cafe came to the front and was handling the pastries as if to count and his fingernails were black and he was sweating w a runny nose all over the empty pastry trays. It was disgusting. I highly suggest never ever going there at all unless you want to contract some kind of disease. I was going to buy my daughter a cookie but they looked burnt on the edges and gooey in the middle. NEVER AGAIN!!! GROSS! I only wish I could give negative stars. read more
