Highly recommend this place! My mom has celiac, so I'd been wanting to bring her here since it's 100% gluten-free. They're only open on weekdays, so it took us a while to find the right time--but we finally made it, and it was absolutely worth the wait! We arrived right at opening (11:00 a.m. on a Monday), and it was quiet at first, which made for a relaxed, peaceful experience. The owner was so kind and welcoming. The ambiance is beautiful--lots of windows, natural light, fresh flower arrangements, and even a selection of records in the corner. The interior design is thoughtful and inviting. The food was incredibly fresh and flavorful. We ordered the Spanish omelet and a plate with three selections from the lunch bar to share. It was the perfect amount of food and filled us up good. The omelet was great, but the lunch bar dishes were the real standout. We also tried the olive oil cake for dessert--it had a slightly doughy, mochi-like texture that was moist and absolutely delicious. I would love to come back!!

Amazing eggs, salads, lentils - everything delicious!

Fabulous! What a delightful surprise! Would definitely go back! The ambience is amazing.

Absolutely delicious lunch in a sunny space. Apparently you have to get here early for more choices but I still had a hard time choosing!

Delicious lunch in a sunny space. I guess there are more options if you get here earlier but I still had a hard time deciding!

Tortilla de patata, strawberry rhubarb agua fresca, 2 item plate with steak. Olive oil cake with strawberries and yogurt.

Delicious fresh food and an excellent experience. Love coming here when I can--seems like an especially great place for people who work nearby. I came around noon on a Friday and it was bustling! Parking was pretty easy, there's a lot of parking nearby but usually full on the weekdays. Counter service is quick and very friendly. Great spot for a casual lunch with really exceptional and high quality eats.

beautiful interior, smooth oat milk latte

Beautiful, sun-drenched cafe/restaurant offering high quality espresso, brewed tea, and plant-based Barcelona-inspired/Mediterranean-inspired foods. Airy, spacious interior: So pretty. Lots of windows and seating. Good coffee + sunlight + a book or a good conversation = unmatched. Lots of plants to add that "nature-y" feel. I also love the little touches of decor -- tastefully placed books, couches, pillows, etc. Espresso: Good coffee but a little pricey :( I think I paid like $7-8 for an oat milk latte. My latte was smooth and I have no complaints re: taste, but I wish they offered larger drink volume options. I think I was also a little disappointed I had to pay extra for plant-based milk, considering their menu seems to focus on healthy/light eating. Tea: Didn't get a chance to try their tea but they offer loose-leaf tea in a kettle that you can sit down with. Plant-based Barcelona/Mediterranean-inspired foods: They do a-la-carte so you pay for how many sides/dishes you want. For example, 2 sides is $X while 3 sides is $Y + $Z for your choice of protein. They do offer animal proteins (e.g. eggs, chicken, salmon) but you'll predominantly find plant-based dishes here. Lots of salads, grains, root vegetables, and leafy greens. Since I was only there for coffee, I didn't have a chance to try their food but I'll def be back for it. I saw tons of people coming in and dining for lunch. Staff were super friendly. Tarocco def stands out more as a restaurant than a cafe. I liked my latte but would come here more for the atmosphere and food than for the coffee.

This place is so good and fresh! Some of the best lunch vibes to be found in the East Bay. Grab a coffee and a seat in a gorgeously designed space, draped in natural light. You will leave here feeling fantastic, no matter what you order.

Okay wow, this place is incredible! I frequent a lot of restaurants in West Berkeley but it's taken me a second to discover Tarocco. The reviews are absolutely true--this restaurant has delicious food and impeccable vibes. A bonus is that there's plenty of free parking, too! We ordered the Mediterranean Breakfast, Tarocco Rice Bowl, Cardamom Rose Latte, and Flowerhead Chai. You know how some people love a fresh and locally sourced grain bowl or salad? I've never been that kind of person, but for some reason, I couldn't get over the vegetables and flavors in the dishes. The colors and spices were incredible. Also, the space itself is modern, clean, and very spacious. There's plenty of indoor seating with an option to sit outdoors as well. It's the kind of place where you want to spend an entire afternoon chatting with friends. Honestly, this might be my favorite restaurant in Berkeley in 2023. Come to Tarocco!

My mom and I went here for Mother's Day, it's right up the street from her art studio so we walked over. The building in rather unsuspecting from the outside, but inside it's beautiful. Very modern, lots of plants, lots of black and white accents and super clean. Food wise I loved that their menu. It's simple yet there is something for everyone. Their portions are generous. I feel given the ingredients and portion sizes it's incredibly affordable. I ordered the Mediterranean Breakfast with Smoked Salmon. It was so good, so fresh, I love the opportunity to try a bunch of different things so this was a perfect choice for me. One of the elements was a chickpea mash that was sooooooo good. My mom ordered the Veggie Quiche which was served on a bed of arugula. The dressing was light and delicious. The quiche was perfectly cooked. We sat by one of the many big windows that wrap around the space. The light was beautiful and though it was busy it wasn't too loud and we could easily talk. It made for a special Mother's Day lunch. Looking forward to returning.

Tasty but very small portions
K V.

Tasty but the portions are extremely small. The 2-item combo was $14 which was a tiny 1/3cup scoop of chickpea salad and one small slice of polenta. Added on a slice of tortilla for $8. They do include a little rice and greens which is nice because otherwise the plate would look empty. See pic . Total w tax and tip was $25.

My 76th birthday at Tarocco, completely amazing!

Part of the hotel cost includes a free beer or wine at the Morgan bar on the second floor. Not only was the event, put on by the East Bay Regional Parks District, fun, educational and entertaining, the room itself is quite a room! The hall, which may be small by some standards, feels quite open and spacious with tall lofty ceilings. With a strong Tudor style on the inside and it's large rock fireplace, the rustic yet elegant charm is what draws you in. We were treated to guest speakers, live jazz band, light refreshments, champagne and cake. And since we were one of the first 75 people we received a free book that is fresh off the presses "Tilden Regional Park Queen of the East Bay Regional Parks" by Richard Langs. Not only did Richard entertain and educate us with a brief synopsis of the history of our area, he took the time to sign copies of the books generously given away. I would highly recommend to anyone interested in the area's history to pick up a copy (contact EBRP in Oakland and I'm sure they will tell you how to purchase) to understand how, why, when the EBRP district was developed and how it came to be what it is today. Truly Tilden Park is one of those places that causes anyone who has visited to be awestruck and inspired. Going back is not a question but a must-do! California seems to be full of such places, luckily one happens to be in my back yard! I'm looking forward to finding other open events at the Brazil room. The Faculty Club, on the UC Berkeley campus, was designed by the legendary Berkeley architect and is many things to many people. Most notably, it's: * A place to eat and drink; * A venue to rent out for events; and * A place to spend the night. I ate and drank there* but I also spent the night there and that's the reason for my 3-star rating and the focus of this review. The Faculty Club rents out rooms, some with private bath and some with communal bath, all situated along a long hallway up a set of stairs. If you've drank too much below, are in town to visit a student at UCB, or are just hankering to spend the night on campus it's not a bad option. The rooms for rent are functional (not fancy) and clean (but not new). "Utilitarian" is an apt description. A friend and I stayed in a room with 2 beds and its own bathroom and shower at a cost of $215. Rooms with shared baths are (obviously) less and an additional $15.40 will buy you a parking pass valid until 2 p.m. the following day at a nearby, on campus lot. I don't track the cost of lodging in the Bay Area but this rate seemed reasonable, especially considering the inclusion of a continental breakfast for 2 the following morning. Before falling asleep the night of my stay my friend wondered whether the Campanile's toll would wake us. Fear not; it didn't. Instead, 52 beeps from a garbage truck backing up was followed by the crash of glass recyclables being collected, all before sunrise. So, be sure your room is on the west side of the building if you desire a quieter experience. I can't imagine returning for an overnight here but I'd certainly be comfortable recommending it to others. It was fun and serene to step outside in the morning, right onto the beautiful Faculty Glade of the UCB campus. I can well imagine others enjoying the reasonably-priced experience. * Food and drink are reviewed under Faculty Club Kerr Dining Room

I tried to embrace the history and think of all the families and students who have stayed here over the years, and that worked somewhat. I did have a good stay and ultimately enjoyed my room for what it was. Things to know: - The building is challenging to find and GPS is marginally helpful. - There was no place available to park to check-in so I had to risk it and park in a 30 minute loading zone up the hill. - It was hard to find the right door to get the lobby - no helpful signage at all. - After checking in you have to navigate to one of the parking lots they allow you to park in, which is not right at the Club. - You have to navigate your way back to the place after parking - I was lugging my bags. - You have to lug your bags up a significant flight of stairs to get to the rooms - no elevator. - The rooms are like an old cabin - not updated, dark wood, very basic accommodations. - If you get a room with your own bathroom, the bathroom is tiny with nowhere to set your toiletries or even hang your hand towel. - The bed is just okay - nothing like nicer hotels. The bedding is very thin and looks like something you'd find in a Motel 6. They could at least give you a nice mattress and comfy bedding even while keeping the basic/historic look of the rooms. - There is a flatscreen tv, but it's small and uses Dish network - remote is somewhat confusing. - There was a small fridge, but it wasn't plugged in. - There was a glue trap for rodents in my room which didn't instill confidence. Some positives: - The room was very spacious and had a high ceiling. Although it felt very old, it was clean. - The windows open wide letting in a nice breeze and adding a serene feel. - The price is reasonable in my opinion. - The atmosphere is relaxing and the area is safe. - The restaurant has good food and also reasonably priced in my opinion. - Free breakfast.

We originally had plans for another restaurant, but this location, etc. worked out. Everyone spent quite a bit of time catching up, and we were made to feel at home. I ordered a side of fries for a shareable at the table. I found the fries to be very underwhelming and needed more seasoning and considering that it's seven dollars for a side of fries the serving was pretty mediocre. I ordered the lamb/beef gyro plate. The side salad was very fresh and had a light vinaigrette dressing. I would have liked for the dressing to be more of an actual vinaigrette flavor. The rice was light and fluffy, but again, lacked seasoning/flavor. The side of yogurt sauce, was tasty, but did not hit the spot. Why? Because it really lacked the flavors. Notice a theme? I will say, the meat was tender, and it had a really nice flavor to it. It was delicious enough that it was very difficult to differentiate between a lamb flavor versus a beef flavor. It all tasted good together. The soft drinks are rather pricey. It was around $3.50 for a bottled Coke. Yikes! When we were done with our meal, we were served complementary hot tea. It was a nice touch.
