While there was a nearby CVS by our hotel when we were staying in D.C., I fortunately had a car and was able to drive out to shops and stores with less gouging prices. We were also traveling with our (fur)baby and I needed legit pet supplies. So I early on during our stay in Northwestern D.C., I rode out to the Target in Columbia Heights. Not being from the city, I used Yelp Search and Google Maps to guide my choice. I noticed that this Target had a parking garage PLUS it was the closest and easiest/most direct drive from Logan Circle/Downtown. A note to travelers to D.C. Parking is a thing in D.C. (as well as turning lanes!) I'm from the Northeast, so I was surprised at the size of this Target. The Target is huge and has two levels. It's housed in a shopping center with other big department stores. I found everything I needed after exploring the layout. Another note to travelers to D.C. and not from their tri-state area - Target in D.C. sells alcoholic beverages if you want/need. The parking garage is paid, but it's a small fee for the convenience you get (as a traveler from out-of-town). From the perspective of a local, I can see how this is annoying if you are spending your money in the stores and also have to pay for parking. It would be nice if they adapted a receipt scanning system that allowed for complementary parking if you spend X amount of dollars. So in sum, this is a convenient resource if you are visiting/staying in the area and have a car. read more

The parking situation at Target has become absolutely predatory. I received a ticket for $90 with a threat about it increasing to $125 without any warning after spending almost $300 there! They used to use gates that were open on downtimes so you have no idea that it has changed. I called Target to complain and they just shrugged and pretend they have no say, despite being the largest tenant in that building. Absolute nonsense. I will NEVER shop there again. I was kind of excited to see this Target location on one of my routes to and from the office. I thought it would be a great place to stop and pick up a few items when commuting. I was wrong. Oh so wrong. I love me a good Target, and when you have one in an urban area it usually hits on all levels. However, this one had more misses than all other Target stores I have visited combined. Everything is a mess here and leaves a sour taste in your mouth to make you not want to return. I came in here because I was in deep need of some allergy medicine and I wasn't wanting to have to make too many stops. I also needed a few other things, but my main objective was to get that one item. I was able to achieve that, but everything else I was looking for was no where to be found in this location. Every single thing I wanted was out of stock on the shelf. To find an employee here was impossible. You could not find a single employee to help you locate and item in case you overlooked it. After several minutes searching for each item and not finding anything, I became fed up and headed towards the checkout lines. Having paid for my one item I made my way out of the store. What irked me most here was that I purchased an item and still had to pay to get out of the parking garage. I wouldn't be so upset with that, but the amount they charged me for about twenty minutes in the store is just not justified. I will go to any other Target location before I return here. It is just not worth it to have to pay to park and then not find anything you intended to buy. read more

This is such a convenient location. I just love how it's always fully stocked. It's a tad bit smaller than most stores but I love the inviting feel of the colors and decor. It gives me New York City vibes. I can always find what I'm looking for and even things I didn't know I wanted. My quick in/out two item trip, turned into a $71.00, 3 bags, one hot breakfast sandwich and 13 items later field trip. I can't forget the Barista at Starbucks inside of this target. I wish I got her name to mention her but she was so knowledgeable and very customer service driven. Spent the weekend nursing a sore elbow, so I popped into this Target today before work hoping to pick up an elbow brace. It was just about 8am, so the store was pretty empty. An associate walks by and I stop her to ask her where the braces were located and said she was new, so she didn't know. Rather than walk the entire sales floor looking for the elbow brace, I asked her if she could help me locate an associate who would know where the braces are located. Rather than respond, she rolled her eyes at me from the top of my head to the soles of my feet and then quickly sashayed away. I don't know what you guys are teaching your new associates, but I hope you at least teach them that completely and purposely ignoring customers is not a good look. Two associates later and I finally find someone who directs me to the correct section only to find Target didn't have what I needed. read more

The newest location in DC! It's about time. I have watched this location go from an old warehouse to deconstruction to a hole in the ground to a brand new building featuring TARGET. I just happened to drive by on my way to work and saw that the windows were uncovered and looked ready for business. What I found out was that the store has it's official opening on Sunday, November 10th...another 4 days. So this was a soft opening...Which I found out when I was not able to purchase 1 item in my basket. Nonetheless, this store is going to be great! Underground parking for 1 hour free, brightly lighted store, with brand new everything. This store is brand new from the garage to the shelving. Right in the heart of Ivy City next to Petco, Planet Fitness and the NIKE outlet. Perfect location on New York Avenue and plenty of parking. I will be back on Sunday for the Grand Opening! read more

Dear Target I will NOT be going back to your location at 1515 New York Avenue because of the scamming techniques used by the parking company that manages the parking garage at this location. Despite having paid, albeit after I shopped at the location, and explaining this to the person who answered at Vanguard Parking Solutions, I am still forced to pay a whooping $90.10 because they sent this to a collection agency. I am sorry that despite having spent more than $600 that day, and as such spent more than the time given by Target for free parking, this is the "customer service" provided by the Parking Garage who clearly just care about themselves. I am sure there are plenty of companies you can consider for managing your parking as there are just as many I can consider for shopping that provide free parking. The Space: This Target is a weird size because it is bigger than an express but smaller than a standard target. They do have a garage, game section, CVS pharmacy, Starbucks, and 6 self checkout stations. The garage is free for the first hour and then around $3 for the second hour. I've never had an issue with the garage being full and I've been to this target at all hours. The only thing I've ran into is that on weekends, there may be a line for the self checkout because they rarely have someone at a cashier. If you do park in the garage, make sure you get your ticket validated on your way out at the door! The Staff: I feel like the staff is constantly stocking this place. There are usually plenty of workers around for you to flag down if you have a question. My experience with the workers is that they all have been pretty friendly and helpful when it comes to finding things. The Groceries: The biggest downfall about this location is that things are constantly out of stock. However, it seems like they are going through renovations and it also seems like management has changed. Fingers cross for some improvements on the supply in the near future! read more

My first time to visit the store today after work. It is near my university... When I entered the store parking, I worried if there would be a charge to pay for the parking. After I got a ticket and parked my car, I was looking for a staff to ask if the parking is free or not? The staff said "one hour free parking". After I bought little things and left, the parking was NOT free... I had to pay for $2 dollars under 30 mins. Okay, I parked my car outside and asked the staff, she didn't know why it was happening. I tried the customer service staff who said I had to give my ticket to her scanning for free. I asked to refund, but she said NO. I wanted to type my comment in that Target survey at InformTarget.com which shows in my receipt. But the website is faking and I could not find an official site. The parking policy are confused for customers who will come at first time and I could not find some things I need in there. read more

They get the pickup order wrong continually, they are always understaffed and usually only self-checkout is available. As an avid Target shopper, it was daunting to trek to Northwest DC or outside of the city to go the nearest Target location. When this (city) Target popped up in my neighborhood, I was geeked. What I like most is, everything was well thought out and they have enough products for it to be a "city" store. This location has free 1 hr parking, a grocery section and every other section you would have in a normal Target, to include a Starbucks. Also, the customer service is friendly and they stay open to 10pm almost every night. read more

Yay, finally a Target to serve a lot of SE/NE D.C! This isn't quite a full-size target, but it's not a mini one either. From what I can tell they have a few less aisles dedicated to baby items, home goods and clothing. They barely have any groceries, but you can find your staples. They have a huge area dedicated to toiletries and makeup which is fun to shop through. Overall you can find what you're looking for, but you just may not have as many options. There is a parking lot with free parking on site and it is WIDE, so you don't need to worry about #parkinggaragestress. There is also a Starbucks inside with friendly baristas! They have only been open for just over a month so I am looking forward to seeing if and how this Target evolves. read more

I could have sworn I penned a review for this Target right after I visited over Christmas. But apparently not. So, since I did enjoy my trip there, and the shopping, I'll review it now. This is a very nice, very clean, very new feeling Target. When I went there, it had been open for only a few weeks, but I liked it so much, I'll be going back. It's definitely smaller than the one in Columbia Heights, therefore less choice. But the CH store is always out of inventory that you're looking for, so it evens out in the end. I esp. liked the Starbucks, it was immaculate and the baristas were very nice, especially compared to the CH branch. I'm not in the neighborhood, so the only negative I see is that Ivy city is hard to get to via public transit. Also, while there's a very nice TJ Maxx next to the Target, there arent many other stores there at this point. read more

There are many businesses that are much needed East of the Capitol and I didn't know how much I would've loved having a Target as one of them. I'm so happy this location exists. I went on a Wednesday afternoon and it wasn't that busy as far as customers go. However there were many workers stocking items and also gathering items for online orders. I'm glad to have others ask me if I needed anything. Parking garage has a tight entrance. Free parking for the first hour. This location without fail takes at minimum 20 minutes to be helped at guest services every time. There is never anyone there, and other staff members will see you waiting for a pick up or return and just ignore you going about their business. They need more staff, especially with the volume of mobile orders these days. And now that you HAVE to go to guest services to validate parking it is even more of a nightmare. read more

But I do need to complain about the store's manager, John Philip. He is extremely rude and has no customer service skills. Shopping at Target makes us happy and we never have had a bad experience. We love the displays, great customer service and the store is always clean. I usually shop with my daughters. We never have any problems. We normally visit the Targets in Maryland or Virginia (although we live in DC). I visited Target on 1515 New York Ave NE in DC a few times, and the customer service has always been deplorable. I was initially excited because this area is being built up and there are more shopping options available. However, If I could give this Target location fewer stars, I would. A few weeks ago (in April 2020), I realized that I could never support the Target on New York Avenue. CUSTOMER SERVICE This Target is not really busy, but when there are customers, the cashiers are usually chatting with each other. But, I understand that with Covid-19, that there are changes to be made. I am usually dressed in my work dress attire, but today, I had on leggings and a face mask, along with gloves. I finished my morning run and drove to Target and parked in the garage. I had a 9:30am meeting, and I needed to grab a few items before my children began their school day. I carried my own bag (I read the website and this was advised) and walked up to the outside entrance to stand in line. There were a total of three people in line and we were admitted inside the store (we were the same ones who parked in the garage). I shopped quickly (15 minutes) and noticed that the lines were all closed, except self-checkout. I stood in line to wait my turn. The entrance is less than 2 feet from the self-checkout line. There were less than 10 shoppers in the store. I went to self-checkout, rang my items, and paid with my bank card. I spent $71.74, packed my tote (more of a hot and cold tote, and proceeded to run out to get into my minivan to my kids. I stopped to ask the guard a question on the correct path to the garage because so much was closed when I entered due to Covid-19. What occurred after my query was astonishing. The guard asked me for my receipt and I became perplexed. I asked her why I needed to show my receipt (which was inside of my tote), as I just paid for my items at self-checkout - the same line she watched me leave. I refused and she could not offer an explanation on why I was targeted. I have never been asked to show a receipt in Target. Costco and Walmart both have policies. Costco asks everyone to show their receipt. But on Friday, April 10, 2020, it seemed that the Guard was destined to risk her life & mine over a receipt. She was not wearing a mask or gloves, but was checking receipts! This also meant that we were less than 6 feet apart. I was perplexed over the request; there were other customers who had entered the store with me, hands full, and exiting the store with their paid merchandise. No one else was asked to show their receipt. Upon refusing, other Target personnel told me that I was obligated to show my receipt. I offered to return all of the items that I paid for than to experience the harassment. However, the Target staff told me that I could not return the items due to Covid-19. It really seemed outlandish to require that this lady should be required to check receipts without a mask and gloves. So, I handed my receipt over and left the store without it. The guard's desk is less than 2 feet from self-checkout. I don't shop at stores that require customers to put up their packages before shopping. I shop where policies are visible. My other friends have also agreed that the service at this location is really bad. I like to support my community, but not at this price. 1. If checking receipts is Target's policy, then ALL shoppers need to be asked for their receipt, like Costco. 2. The Receipt Checking policy needs to be clearly visible and conveyed to all shoppers. It needs to be on social media sites as well. 3. Finally, the Target at 1515 New York Ave NE, Washington, DC, needs Training. I reached out to @askTarget, and @Target on Social Media, and received canned responses. One response indicated that I should not give up on Target because of one bad store. read more

The reason why I gave this review is because of one staff member who was very rude on two occasions. This woman in particular is tall, light skinned with red hair cut short. The first encounter was when she was hurrying us out of the store at 8:50PM. I am very aware that the store closes at 9PM, and I didn't appreciate the loud countdown. The second encounter I had was when I came to the customer service desk to pick up something I purchased online. ANY living, breathing customer knows to great their fellow man/woman, and ANY living breathing associate knows to reciprocate the greeting. I approach the woman, greeted her with my name and pleasantries, and she says "barcode!" with the nastiest attitude. Ma'am, am I the reason you're working at TARGET at your big age? I'm very mehhhh towards this Target. I was super excited to have a new Target in the neighborhood being as though I have kids and hate dragging them all the way to the Virginia locations.
