I was uncertain about having them opening a Target here, both for safety reasons and having a big box store in my neighborhood, but it has certainly grown on me over the years. This is your standard Target with most of your household needs at Target prices (higher than Walmart, but generally better quality). It's clean for the most part and safe even at night. It's generally somewhat crowded at all hours, but the lines can get pretty huge on the weekends and after work hours. Associates can be hard to find at times, but are always helpful when I ask to find things. I come to this Target quite frequently due to its convenience with its location and the fact that it stocks all the home essentials and groceries. There's always parking, though you might have to park further away during the busier times. Glad to have this business in my neighborhood. read more

Another sub-par experience at this Target. Had a few items and went to the register with the light on, but no one was at the register. There was woman working at the adjacent register, so I got in line behind the customer being rung up. When it was my turn, the cashier said "I'm not open" and left me standing there. Normally I would have gone to the self checkout because there is almost never enough staff at the registers here, but today there were customers at two of the four self checkout registers. The other two, as per usual, were not working. No one was monitoring the self checkout and no one was doing anything to remedy the out of service machines. I asked to speak to the manager, but no one can find her and no one knows where she is. I wait ten minutes, still no manager and now the cashier comes up and tries to explain why she blew me off. Not sure what her excuse was, except that she invoked this not-to-be-found manager as having caused the situation. A total cluster and if this had been the only experience like this, I would not have said anything, but this is not the first, but certainly will be the last time I have this experience at this store. read more

Occasionally you want to secretly sneak away from the house alone, shop at one of your favorite chain stores, order a large Diet Coke and a side of breadsticks. I have been going to this Target weekly for 5 years and they have been out of breadsticks probably 90 percent of the time. Diet Coke works about 50 percent of the time. I go to Target a lot ever since I became a mom, it's such a luxury and necessity these days; but this Target is barely stocked with the items I need. And majority of the employees are rude, 3 different times I asked different employees to help me with something and they all sighed before helping. This is my least favorite Target for a litany of reasons. First, they NEVER have baskets available. Maybe one time out of four, I can actually get a basket (if I scour the checkstands for abandoned ones). I assume there's plenty of carts, but I rarely want a cart, just a basket. Next, more than any other Target I've seen, things on the shelf tend to be messy, disorganized, or just outright in the wrong place. If you can find what you're looking for, chances are you won't know how much it costs unless you bring it to a scanner. And finally, at least as of my trip today, they've started checking receipts at the door. In my book, there are few things as customer-unfriendly as that. That said, it is a Target. They've got the usual assortment of goodies at cheap prices. I still come here because I can walk to it. But if you have another Target convenient to you, I'd pick that one over this every time. (Also, just as a heads-up, and I'm not sure if this is their fault or Richmond's fault, but they don't sell liquor at this store, only wine and beer.) read more

I love target as its a great go to place for almost anything. I find it hard to stick to my shopping list as they often have sales on things that I don't need per say, but will need in the future. So spending money now will save for the future :) Like other targets they have abundant parking, a Starbucks inside, and isles upon isles of things that say buy me. Unlike other targets, the location of this one seems to draw crazies. The first time I came here at night they were really understaffed at the checkout and there was this very angry lady who had very loud choice words that she would say repeatedly and the second time I came here at night there was a guy who attempted to steal something from the electronics department only to get pummeled to the ground by security. Now after these two episodes there was no more third time. Now I try to either go to a different target or go during the day. The sad thing is that the employees (or at least the few I have worked with) are overall really good, it's just sad that the environment is less than desirable. read more

Please have respect for your employees and understand that the ones there trying to make a living the best they can off of the pay and hours they are given are people just like you trying to make it, but not having it as easy as you do in your positions. This target is overall pretty normal...but there is no sidewalk area to actually walk up to the store and no crosswalk either. People drive pretty crazy around it too, so it's freaky trying to walk to the door. The bathroom is absolutely disgusting. There was a ton of toilet paper in all of the toilets and all over the floor as well as blood smudged in the floor of one of the stalls. Just gross. If you shop here, just hope you don't have to pee. read more

Target - Disgusting - Department Stores Near Me - Richmond, California

I came here to pick up an older model phone on sale, which happened to be only available in store here. Since I was taking a day trip to the Bay Area from out of town, I figured I would drop in to this store to get it. The associates in the electronics department didn't seem to know how to ring up the phone in their system, so it took nearly 45 minutes for the transaction to complete. The associate who was ringing me up also kept hold of my driver's license for way too long (instead of just for simple verification for like a minute or so), so he ended up forgetting he had it and I left the store without it! Fortunately, I was able to retrieve it later that day. They didn't seem very interested in ensuring that the phone worked on the network, so I had to install the SIM card myself and attempt to activate it myself. I don't know if it was their fault (or Verizon's), but it took a very long time for the phone itself to activate. It eventually worked though, with seemingly no action on my or Verizon's behalf. read more

When my friends' son was 2 he started calling Target "Targee" combining "Target" and "Slurpee" (his favorite snack from there) So now I like to chant, "Targee! Targee! Targee!" to my family when I need to shop here. I'm beginning to prefer this Target over the Albany location BECAUSE it has just one floor. The parking is usually easier too. They just remodeled their grocery section so now they offer produce and more food items. They've installed this cool lighting system in their refrigerated/freezer sections. The cases are dark until someone walks by and they "magically" light up. Their food prices are generally cheaper . It's my go-to place for office supplies, kitchen knick knacks and DVD's. Never had a problem because it's in Richmond. I've always felt perfectly safe. I'm glad to see this former site of Montgomery Wards revitalized. Although I do miss the EC store I'm happy for the city of Richmond that they have this store to help boost their economy read more

GUYS, this Target and the big Starbucks located inside both HAVE FREE WIFI. That's right, you can get some work done at the tables in the corner. That's right, you can get on wifi to FaceTime your friend to see if those jeans makes your butt look big. That's right, you can spend hours in here and it won't use up any of your data plan. lol. I feel kind of sad giving Target a bad review, because I do love the place in general (see my review of the Albany store), but when it comes to purchasing electronics (anything w/ a serial number), this place is even worse than Best Buy. I didn't know such a thing was possible. I came here recently and purchased a printer that I had been eying for some time. I got it home, and it didn't work. That's not too damning; that type of thing is bound to happen when you sell tons of electronics. I brought it back the next evening, and the whole experience was very shady. The serial number of the printer I purchased did not match the serial number on the box, although it was the same model. How did such a thing end up on their shelves? My guess is that someone used the printer and returned it, and they didn't bother checking the contents when they took it back. So Target only bothers to check out the products that get returned half the time. They told me that I could exchange the printer for another of the same kind, and fortunately there was one there. I asked what would happen if there weren't any printers left (I thought that I had purchased the last one), and they told me that then I'd be out of luck. What does this mean for you? Target isn't a reliable place to purchase electronics. If you see something you really want, open the box, check all the contents, and make sure the serial number on the box matches the one on the actual item. Don't be shy about it. This type of thing is right up and up their alley. If I were reviewing the whole store, I'd give easily give five stars. When a place won't let you return an item because the serial number on the item doesn't match the box, but will sell you that item, they need to reexamine what they're doing and not decide to implement their anti-theft policies half the time. This one-star review is just for the electronics department and customer-service desk. Edit: I'm probably going to return this crappy printer, btw. I'll let you know how that goes. read more

Came here at 7:45 on Valentine's Day to get a bag of fresh popped popcorn for my mom for Valentine's Day from my children! She LOVES their popcorn and they thought it would be a good idea to include a bag of it with her other goodies. When I got to the food court at 7:45, the young girl working proudly told me that they were closed for the night. She further went on to tell me that some called in sick and that she was scheduled to get off at eight and the person who called in sick was scheduled to get off at nine which is when they really close but because she was scheduled to get off at eight the food court was going to close at 8 o'clock which meant I couldn't get popcorn for my mother's Valentine's Day gift. I asked to talk to the manager and explain the situation that the food court was closing at 8 o'clock when it's supposed to be closing at 9 o'clock and I came there with the believe that with an hour before closing I would be able to purchase popcorn for my mom. The manager was kind enough to tell the young lady that she had to pop a small batch of popcorn for me which she did. She had major attitude and would not look at me or speak to me other than to tell me the price of the bag of popcorn. In the and I got the bag of popcorn however I had to wait for the popcorn machine to warm-up and then for the popcorn to pop. Not a big deal however if the food court is supposed to be open until 9:00 - then the food court should be open until 9:00!!! read more

Came across the rudest worker last night here. She was an older Hispanic woman that was working the fitting room around 10:45pm. When looking to see if a size is available somewhere in the store or if there are any available at another Target location, the person working the fitting room has ALWAYS been able to help me. And I've been shopping at Target for as long as I can remember. When I approached this worker asking if she can please check a size, she literally just walked away from me. I'm still standing there watching her wondering where she's going and as she's walking away tells me to go to customer service because she was leaving the fitting room. And so I start walking down the aisle and see another worker named Alejandra and start approaching her to see if she can help me, instead of having to walk across the store. I didn't even get to say anything yet and the same worker comes out from across the aisle saying "I told you to go to customer service." I honestly couldn't even hold my tongue and simply said "WOW" and then she starts speaking in Spanish to Alejandra about me. I knew it was about me because in between her Spanish words in English she's saying "customer service" and is looking and pointing at me. Obviously someone like that doesn't care about their job and they need to get fired. I'm only ranking this location two stars because the lady working the toy department was more than helpful. When asked if they had a certain game after I walked up and down the aisles not being able to find it, she looked it up and went trying to locate it for me. She was very nice. read more

I miss the Target by the El Cerrito Del Norte BART station but this replacement off of MacDonald, where the old Montgomery Wards use to be, is really nice. It is large, clean, and has friendly service - even though it is fairly busy. It also has the brand-spanking new feeling with fancy plastic shopping carts and wide aisles to race them down (that is of course if I was 12). This Target has both groceries and a restaurant, which was convenient when I first explored the store when I had jury duty down the street a few months ago. And hopefully the store and the revitalized surrounding new shopping complex will be a big boost to the other side of the freeway -which so many people would rather avoid, even though it is just a block away from I-80. Although taken a bit back yesterday by the swimsuit display now prominently featured by the front door (seriously who buys a new bikini in December or January), I was able to find what I was looking for quickly. They pretty much have all the standard Target fare and I got some pretty good deals (75% off) of holiday stuff - which was the only section that was completely ransacked. read more

Both Pinole and Richmond locations "forgot" they were supposed to be doing their Trick or Treat event for the kids today. Opening a bag of candy and handing each kid a piece doesn't fix it. My daughter was excited about this for weeks. We come every year. It was a big let down, honestly. It was in your print ads, online, etc. How did you not know it was happening? We left the Pinole store, thinking, okay, they made a mistake, it happens. But same thing at Richmond. Meh...this target reminds me of playschool toys (you know the little plastic people) because of their carts and their ATM stylus. We came here because they sent us a 5 dollar off coupon. The store was passable, nothing to write home about. (Side rant: WTF is up with fruit of the loom, I needed more wife beaters if I buy them in the womans section they cost 7 dollars for one, but if I step over to the mens section I can buy a pack of 7 for 7 bucks) BOO to their Starbucks, I dunno if the staff are still learning or what but my order (lukewarm soy mocha) completely shut the entire staff of 3 down. I waited 5 minutes for my drink and they messed up and made it with whole milk. Also, this target doesn't have it's own freeway on ramp. I was a fool to venture away from my 2 story target again. Most people miss the old location across from the El Cerrito Del Norte BART Station. But i would agree with most people, it really was getting pretty grimey looking. The new location is on MacDonald Ave in Richmond where the old school Montgomery wards, wig shops, old school taco bell, and few old rundown buildings use to be at. Ah rest in peace Monkey-wards...rest in peace lol. I got 2 great deals on some DVDs at this Target for $5 bucks man! 2pack combo of TEEN WOLF/TEEN WOLF 2 and Adventures in Babysitting. Not bad. I didn't have much time to inspect the place. Spent like less than 25 mins in that joint due to closing time announcements. It looks descent and clean inside. For a brief inspection i give it no complaints so far. But let's see how long that can last. Overall, i give this Target 3 out of 5 stars! Bad customer service worse experience ever went to self checkout with my kids i scanned all items but at the exit they told me there was one item not scanned I try to go back and pay for the item not scanned but the guy said oh I know you trying to shoplift It was a simple mistake but the guy was really aggressive and rude accusing me of shoplifting horrible experience. I love Target. I've almost never have issues with Target stores. I typically shop at the Target in Albany, which is a two-story wonderland filled with friendly employees and quick service, but I had to go to the Target in Richmond because I was on limited time. The store isn't as brightly lit as the Albany location, nor is it as large, but that didn't affect my shopping experience. The store has a great layout to the point where I made literally a full circle around the store and got everything I needed. And my cashier, a young gentleman named Carlos, was SO FRIENDLY. Oh my gosh I cannot even begin to describe just how sweet he was. We got into a conversation about different dog pee pad brands because I was buying some and I didn't feel intimidated by him like I did by others in my previous trips to the Target in Richmond. My trip was great, but Carlos definitely was the cherry on top with his excellent service. read more

There is no such thing as customer service at this store. I used to go here quite often when I worked in Richmond, but after today's bad service I don't think I'll return. I got to check out #16 and noticed that the young man behind the register was rude to the woman in front of me. I thought because she was limited in English. When it was my turn, I at least expected a 'hello'. NOPE. Rude was all. The only thing he said was the total amount of $$$ I owed. Kind of expected a thank you. This is our local Target. I love it. They layout makes it easy to drive down the isles. I think that this Target is less traveled than the other two in the area: Pinole and Albany. So it feels less busy to me. Service can be slow. But I've seen some of the same employees here for many years now. I like that. read more

Everything is priced higher than Pinole target! As a couponer we love a good deal but the store manager (Asian guy) is a coupon hater and rude. I placed an Order online for pick up and when I came to pick it up, he did not let me use cartwheel and coupons... So I returned the items and repurchased the exact items so I can use cartwheel and coupons. What a waste of time. The reason I placed the order for pick up was to help save me some time, instead it back fired. A bunch of old Latin women stocking shelves but non of them understands English and when I ask a woman to check if they had more items in the back.. She just said no more and made hand gestures. Those ladies Didn't bother to check the back or call for assistance. Just kept talking in Spanish amongst themselves so I had to ask another worker. Wth! read more

This one is pretty new (grand opening in Aug) but it's not particularly modern or special. Targets are so awesome, so when a new one opens, I always hope they make it better than ever. That was a total miss on this location. A good thing about this location is they have the new kind of carts and baskets. The baskets are great to me since they are the kind that don't hurt your hands when you carry heavy items! It's not as busy as the Albany location so if you need something quick, Target is reliable everywhere you go so this is a good place for that. I'm sure it will get busy when everything else in the plaza opens up. But so far, this is easy for me! read more

If you go to the bathroom and leave your cart in front of the bathroom or anywhere near there they will 100 percent take you cart guarenteed. I talked to the front store manager brian and he told me today he instructs his employees to do this. I told him why dont you pay attention and wait 5 minutes? So this particular Target store has been around for a little over 2 years now. I have to say it's wayyyy better than the old Target location at El Cerrito Del Norte that it unofficially replaced. It's always clean-looking and organized in terms of their stock (I couldn't always say that about the Del Norte one), their red baskets are better than those old grocery-type ones most Targets used to have, and the new produce section is pretty cool (it's a trip being able to find organic food, vegetables, and baked goods there now). Ah, the exhilaration of a new store opening. Nice, clean, bright well-organized store with friendly, helpful staff. The San Pablo AVE Target in El Cerrito has closed and moved to MacDonald AVE in Richmond. **HOLD THE PHONES- did someone say the El Cerrito Norte Target was getting a re-hab? I sure hope so!** (I think this may just be a rumor...) Richmond Target opened quietly on Aug 22, 2008, but posted the "official" opening as Aug 27, mainly to give the mostly newly-hired staff time to acclimate before the teeming masses arrive. Sorry to see the one in El Cerrito go. It was a great location- right next to BART, but it was extremely small and becoming rather dumpy. The parking lot was especially icky- strewn with trash, a minefield of chewing gum and unidentifiable spilled sticky liquids, likely because of the impending move all effort was going into the new location. No time to clean up "at home". The new location is not so handy if you don't want to drive, but on the upside a much larger store with a better selection and right off HWY 80 at the MacDonald AVE exit. There is a certain awkwardness about the arrangement too. It has its back up against the highway giving it a rather strange and introverted "Feng Shui". Heck, it doesn't even face the road it is on. Very strange and not exactly ideal for a place of business. Yes, we'll have to see how long the "neat and clean" lasts... Odds are I'll still make the Albany Target my main Target stop. Though about the same distance from both, this one is just off my main line of travel. ----------------------------- My only question to Target Corp.- Why are there no SuperTargets in the Bay Area? I was really hoping this location would be a SuperTarget (with a full-service grocery store, fresh produce and all). Mostly I'm a smaller-local-Mom&Pop shopper, but when I'm in Target, I like to do as much as possible in one place. Simple, basic efficiency. Had they built it like the one in Albany and made it 2 levels, there would have been plenty of space for this. The Richmond store does have limited grocery items on the shelf and with cooler and freezer cases, but definitely not a full-service grocery market (no fresh produce)- and all the way in the back. Who wants to schlep all the way to the back of Target just to grab a bag of chips, a quart of juice or some oatmeal? SuperTarget puts the groceries on one side near the front. One entrance brings you right into the grocery portion, the other entrance brings you to the rest and the check-out stands are in the middle. Great concept for one-stop shopping. Maybe they figured Safeway at MacDonald AVE & San Pablo AVE was too close to bother. Oh, well, maybe next time... Who DOESN'T like "one stop shopping"? This place is awesome! Remember being told "don't judge a book by its cover"? Well, don't judge this Target by it's address! It is located in a fairly large strip mall (AT&T, Payless, and a few other places) and it looks a bit like the result of pre-planning for an economic boom that just never made it to this location. But, luckily, that means that there is AMPLE parking at this location. This Target is one of the cleaner and better organized Targets around. With as many Targets as there are (seemingly) gas stations now, I try my best to stop by here when I'm passing through. Only downside to this location is that it is not very traffic conducive. If you are coming from Berkeley, Albany, it is super convenient, but in order to head South again, you do have to go down past the Staples and OSH (about a mile down the road). Then again, the Albany and Emeryville Targets fall into the same problem as well. All in all, this place is AWESOME! read more
