I never thought I would be writing a review on target of all things, but here I go.. I've actually never BEEN inside a target until I moved to Philadelphia just a few months back. Call me crazy but I never felt the need to go into any type of carry-all store like target or walmart etc. Still, I went here w/ boyfriend yesterday to pick up some general items. It was one of those days where you have a ton of things you need around the house and you don't feel like going to 30 specialty shops to get them. Shopping here we ended up getting a bunch of things we didn't set out to get, and some things I'd been looking for but couldn't find. For example, I got to pick up a 20lb-capacity container for specifically dog food made from food-grade plastic and airtight. I've been looking for this at pet shops with no luck and here I find it at Target? Awesome. I don't even remember half the things we brought but it was a shopping cart's full for just a little over $100. What the hell? Is this normal? When I shop for GROCERIES two bags come be like $60. I probably won't go back here for much, but if I ever need something random and cheap I'm sure I can find it here. I think I came here primarily because I wanted to find large barrel hair rollers. Ironically, it was the one they they DIDN'T have.. -_- read more

This wasn't the best Target I've been in. The shelves were disorganized and poorly stocked... Someone said the grocery section looks like Sarajevo after the bombs, and they are right. Also, BEWARE. There are petty THIEVES who wander the store. I actually had my wallet stolen out of my purse by a woman who asked me to help her reach an item on a shelf. I noticed immediately and wrested the wallet from her hands. Only in Philadelphia! Yugh. read more

C'mon people, where's the love for this store? Go anywhere else in the city. Find a department store. Tell me it is better than this store. Go 'head n try. You aint gonna do it, ok? I saw a reviewer say how barren the food shelves are. Couldnt disagree more. Even with the entirety of South Philly shopping there, chance are you will find what you are looking for. Certainly better chances than, say, Acme or Shop Rite. And- by the way- its a damn Target! It is NOT a food store. It is also extremely clean and organized considering the high volume the store takes. I have never, ever thought the store was neglected or generally dirty. And I have been going here since it opened. Listen. Ya'll reviewers need to relax with the mad Target hate goin on here. Seriously- how we gonna complain that its hard to find a cart!? Breaking news: this Target is MOTHER BUSY! Compare it to Wal-Mart. Compare it to the Acme on Passyunk. Compare it to the shit-fest that is Ikea. No, it ain't Cherry Hill, is it? But on the other hand, we all use this place, they work hard to keep it respectable, and guess what? They do a kick ass job. read more

Karl M. pretty much got this right. Anything is better compared to the Walmart down the street. For a department store in a city, Target does a very good job of keeping the store clean and organized. They have a cute selection of housewares and linens. I've never had a problem with anything being out of stock, but then again, I go there for dog food and shampoo. My only beef with the place is how...uncourteous all of the cashiers and staff are. While they do a good job of keeping the store neat, they lack any sense of customer service. read more

Quality Target that's always clean with friendly staff. The return department could use a little work in terms of staffing and handling lines, but the ones working usually get the job done in a timely manner. read more

If I had not been to other Targets, then I would give this a one star. The only thing worse than this place is the Wal Mart down the street. Bathrooms are always smelly and gross. I do a ton of shopping at Target but I always go to the one in Cherry Hill although I live about a mile from this one because this one is so gross compared to other Targets I have been in. I know that they are up against nasty customers who shop there but I still hate having to go in this place. read more

I give this place 2 stars only because Wal-Mart got one. This place is MARGINALLY nicer than WM, but compared to every other Target I've been to, this place is a massive disappointment. When comparing the two disappointments known as Target and Wal-Mart nearby, I'd actually pick WM since it's cheaper. This place was empty and lacking a lot of the items I wanted to buy, and their prices are on avg more expensive than WM...so you THINK they could use some of that money and make the store a LITTLE nicer? Nope...do yourself a favor and head out to the 'burbs if you can. This place is pretty bad. read more

This Target is ok pretty clean, ok selection of products, pretty nice employees.

I am sorta laughing at writing a review of Target, cause who doesn't know what Target is? And if you live in Philly, I'm SURE you've been to the Target in South Philly. But here it goes... In case you've been living on Mars for the last 20 years, Target is pretty much a better Wal Mart. Anything you can possibly need WILL be at Target. And you will walk out with approximately 15 more items than you originally set out to buy. Be prepared. As for this particular Target, I have no problems with this location. It is convenient to both home and work, always has parking, always has what I need in stock, and has great prices. One note of caution-- Target has an awesome coupon policy but their cashiers sometimes will forget to scan them- if you are a couponer, make sure to remind them! read more

I don't really know how to review Target. Am I comparing it to other Targets in town? If so, the one in South Philly is the "nicest," but to me the one in Port Richmond is just as good. Once I get into the store, I can't really tell the difference, in fact. It's a one-stop-shop that feels different than Walmart, but that's the yuppie in me talking. In reality, this store has many things we regularly buy and so we regularly visit. But the fluorescent lights kill me. And there aren't enough employees. And the store cuts so many corners that it doesn't seem like there's any reason to have anyone working. So not only does it replace the small businesses in the area, it doesn't create more jobs, and it doesn't make our waterfront anything special. It's majorly problematic in terms of city planning, long-term economic development in the U.S., and contributes to the deterioration of the American city and continues to fuel the U.S.' addiction to materialism. Bottom line: incredibly convenient and effective. But it might be wrong to ever shop here. read more

I actually love this Target. Compared to the walmart down the street, this store, in general, feels like a 5 star resort. i'm from NJ, but I frequent this target a lot because it's convenient location and they have awesome deals that aren't found at other targets. The parking lot is decent, with the carts not scattered around. I can only attest that the men's bathroom is always clean and not terrible. The aisles are clutter free, shelves are fairly organized and stocked well. The employees are generally very nice and accommodating. Despite being busy on Sundays, the check out lines move quickly and managers call in for "back up" cashiers unlike Walmart that makes you stew in blow my brains out misery with 2-3 checkout lines. I will say, the women's clothing section does look like a bomb that went off. But that's mostly the clearance rack where no one ever re-hangs things neatly. Overall, this is a great Target PS, i miss the taco truck out front!!! Anyone know the name of it?!?!?! Or if they relocated?! Their tacos were so bomb!!! read more

I don't know about you, but I love Target. Maybe because it's French... This Target is fairly clean and organized. It has a decent food department, so if you're lazy like me and are looking for an one-stop-shop, this may work well for you. One caveat: avoid going here on Sunday evenings. It looks like a tornado has gone through the aisles. A lot of items, especially in the food department, have been rummaged through and a lot of the popular items are gone. Apparently Target hasn't caught on to this trend that shoppers raid the store on Sundays and perhaps they need to restock the shelves more frequently. read more

This place is clean, organized and busy. Has everything you need in one place. Great location in South Philly. My favorite Target spot.

I would consider myself a Target kinda girl, If I was cockier I would call myself Queen of Target (or something fancy.) For instance, growing up I would decide to take a trip to target and just walk around with friends, boyfriends, my parents or alone. I know my targets. And I know how they should be. This Target is a disgrace. They only reason why I give this Target one star is because it is still a Target. It's barely that to be honest. I've just moved to this area and am now willing to drive 30 minutes to the next Target because out of the 7 times I have gone to pick something up in the last three weeks, ever time it gets worse. ***Good luck finding a shopping cart to start. ***They never empty their outside/Inside trash cans (s*** everywhere) ***They have yet to restock! Still, in three weeks, they haven't refilled their inventory. ***Fruits, vegetables, dairy products, breads all on the brink of being (some even already) expired ***Nothing is where it should be. I would go to Target on Monday and there would be silverware in the candle section and go back on Tuesday to see the item still there. ***Prepared for Irene, no. I went before there was a serious warning and among other necessary items, I couldn't find a single flashlight. Days before the "hurricane"/storm, I couldn't find water, and their candles were swept off the shelf completely. ***Rude rude rude. I always ask how the clerk is, or say thanks you etc etc. All the stuff our mothers (hopefully) have taught us. And every time, I get nothing back. Remember, I've been here 7x in the past three weeks. Sad. ***Once, the clerk told me to call my credit card company because sometimes her machine messes up and needs you to call and provide some code.... what really happened it the pad where i sign and swipe was cracked and needed to be replaced. ***AUTOMATIC DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN, ON TWO OCCASIONS. I get it, I could be perceived as lazy but you would think you could just push them open. Its more like they almost pushed against you. Other than those... I see a lot of complaints about crying babies. Get over it folks, there will be babies and they will cry anywhere you go. They could be crying because it is absolutely the worst scene they've ever witnessed, but I highly doubt it. Target cant do anything about the kids, but they can fix every thing else, AND THEY SHOULD. read more

What an awful store. Shelves look like it is the day before Christmas. Lots of empty shelves. Dirty. What stock is there is all Over the floor. No employees to be found. This store is awful. read more

I am grading this Target on a curve because as far as Targets go, it's not the nicest. It's frequently crowded too. But, compared to the other choices in the area (Walmart, I'm looking at you!), it's fabulous. I go here at least once a week because I've become addicted to the prices of certain grocery items that are staples of my diet. The vegetarian bacon and other meatless products are at least dollar less than the Shop-Rite across the street, for example. One gripe is that they are usually no baskets to carry your stuff in, so if you only need a couple of things, you have to carry it in your hands or use a cart. I think they want people to use carts so they buy more stuff! read more

If you see something in an ad or online that you really like, chances are this Target will not have it. Just sayin' That said, I still appreciate that it exists. And that it's in South Philly. I also appreciate that they now have everything in one place, because really, who wants to go to a different spot for toiletries, a microwave, a soccer ball, and some avocados? NOT THIS GAL. The people who work there are rarely kind...not to say they're mean. They're indifferent. I get it. Try not going anywhere near this place on a weekend nice. I went recently on a Friday night (I'm awesome like that) and there were loads of YOUTHS up in this place. I got this eerie feeling like there was about to be a flash mob (the bad kind) so we got out quick. It's a little bit of a mess, but what isn't in S. Philly? eh? (Btw, the flash mob never happened. I'm just paranoid, and I live near south street) read more

It's Target. This one is fairly nice now that they have re-habbed it slightly and moved stuff around. We come here, seriously, every one to two weeks and always on a weekend so it can get crowded. But they have the household cleaners, supplies and cheap kids gear that we need. So hooray for Target. Beats the heck outta that ghetto-like Walmart down the road. read more

I love target. This target is no exception to the rule. However, going on a weekend is kind of impossible. that being said, target will always have my heart as they often have great supplies for parties, or dinner, or clothes, at decent fair prices. I don't know about all the crap about being a fashionista- but they have decently priced clothing which is great. I love that target is like a Kmart that doesn't suck. The employees at this particular location are not the best, and the place is not always the cleanest (because on a weekend their foot traffic has go to be in the 10s of thousands) but they do a great job when considering that. I am indeed a fan of target. They have what you need and you might not even know you need it yet. read more

I love Target in general, and this one is okay. I appreciate the large parking lot and usually decent waiting times, but the service I've received has been pretty darn bad. The employees aren't friendly or helpful, and I've been treated poorly several times there. Come on Target, you can do better. read more

Seriously, does everyone in the world register for their wedding at Target now? I've been here several times recently looking for wedding gifts that are listed on peoples registries. I think Target stocks significantly different items at their stores depending on location, average household income, etc. because I never find the stuff that people have registered for at this store. Their online inventory indicator could be much better...it basically will indicate that an item may be carried at "some stores" but does not indicate which ones. Essentially its a worthless tool. I wish more stores would learn from Ikea's inventory tool and show a live update of items available. Anyway, I'm updating simply to let people know that it may be worth a call ahead or simply ordering online if you are looking for something someone registered for, unless its super basic. Also, it is a good idea to print out the registry list ahead of time since the computers/printers at Target that should do this are normally nonfunctional or operating so slowly that they are rendered useless. read more

I LOVE Target, and the one thing stopping me from giving this location five stars is that merchandise can run out quickly because it's frequently visited. I don't go to WalMart. I don't care that their prices are a little cheaper than Target. I'm not going to deal with www.peopleofwalmart.com. Why should I? I can go to Target, and accept that I will pay a dollar more, but can buy better quality brands and products. AND their clothes and housewears are much nicer and fashionable than their competitors. This location is very nice, but can get crowded. FYI, someone's parked car rolled into mine in the parking lot, strange I know!, but since then I always put my parking brake on when I park. read more

This Target is easy to get to using the bike trail, and the prices are amazing. I hear they are opening at 4 am on Black Friday, so I made a list of all the things I want in there, and am going in to see what kind of once-a-year steals they have. I was really impressed with all the cool stuff they have for really great prices. I just purchased three beautiful light fleece jackets for $12 a pop (their regular price was only $15), their clothing dept. was fun to shop in, and I bought several boxes of luna, cliff and power bars for $4 each (that's like 70- 80 cents each). (Of course the bike ride did me in and I ate half a box coming home - so much for diets!) Anyhow, I was also impressed with the level of help - everyone was above and beyond friendly, and a lot of people asked me if I needed help. They called into the warehouse to see if they had my size in a floor item they were out of. Even the cashier was friendly and helped me when I asked for separate receipts. They have a well-stocked "tis-the-season" area, and a full grocery store in there. Pretty neat. Big boxes of crackers for super-low prices, and when they have sales it's nearly half-off of what I've been paying at neighborhood pharmacies. Also, although their costume jewelry prices are really cheap, I noticed their lovely real jewelry - I have my eye on a few pairs of earrings, and can't wait for the sale! Plus points for bike racks right outside. Minus a few points for being completely out of stock of good Bike head and tail lights. read more

Ok, so my husband's asthma is acting up and the only script that he has is for our local pharmacy that is closed. He decides to "try" Target. I have long ago stopped going there for my pharmaceuticals secondary to their lack of professionally, never having stock, and just utter stupidity. Well, Target pharm employee offers to call the other pharm but folks it's closed and husband has a empty bottle with one refill. If one Target pharm employee called that closed pharm they would have been able to go above and beyond to fill that Prednisone in a flash. However, being that it is ten to five pm and that's their quitting time....you know the drill. I hate this store! I especially can not stand the lackadaisical pharm staff that do not ever know what the right and left hand are doing. At all costs!!! Stay away from this pharmacy. They never have most popular scripts, they are rude and I can not understand how they ever passed the PharmD exam!!! read more

Fairly decent target store, especially for the area. It had a big parking lot, a good amount of cashiers each day (wait times vary from 2-7 minutes average for me), a good selection and is organized. I give it 3 stars because a few times I've been there bad things happen, like the computer system fails. They do offer coupons when these things happen though because it is out of their control. The staff is for the most part friendly. My only recommendation is to increase the produce selections. read more

Nothing more than the K-Mart of the young generation. It is nothing more and nothing less. Years ago people thought K-Mart was kinda cool because they had all of this good stuff for cheap (sound familiar). It's OK but lets not take things too far. One of the worst Targets I have been too. The staff was unhelpful and slow to respond. The store was dirty and not inviting at all.

Looking for a Target? In Center City or South Philly? This is where you want to go.

I'm becoming a regular at Target now that I've moved to Pennsport. Their products are a step up in quality from Walmart so the prices aren't the cheapest you'll get. The store is cleaner and a lot less drab looking. Well, if you go there when they are having a huge sale, don't be surprised to see extremely messy clothing sections (and I mean MESSY, clothes all over the floor, etc.). All the sections are easy to find and navigation is a snap. There seems to be lots of floor staff, who haven't given me a problem yet and so far everyone I've interacted with have been helpful and friendly. read more

Just had knock-your-socks-off customer service at this store and needed to write about it. My husband and I went there to purchase a TV this weekend. While waiting for the sales person in electronics to finish with a customer, I stopped another sales associate passing by to ask if she worked in electronics. She did not, but despite that, she stopped, answered our questions about the TV we wanted, retrieved it from the stockroom, and brought it to customer service for checkout. I had mentioned that the same TV was available on Amazon for $50 less, and was fully prepared to go thru this spiel with the customer service folks before checking out. As it turned out, by the time we got there, the associate who helped us, and the one at checkout, had already looked up the price on Amazon and were cheerfully ready to ring up our purchase at $50 less than the ticket price. Oh, and in addition, there was yet another sales person who patiently helped us select the correct cabling for our new TV. We were in and out of there in about 20 minutes...maybe less! Yes, this was at Target; in the city no less! read more

The South Philly Target is a true melting pot... there are people of every size, age, color, socioeconomic background, etc. And the one thing they all have in common is RUDENESS. I've never seen so many people pushing, shoving, and hassling the checkout clerks. And like George R said, whatever you're looking for is almost certainly out of stock. From now on I'll save my carshare time for the Target Greatland in Mt. Laurel. Sure, it's a hike, but it's huge and clean and it's next to a Wegman's, a Costco, and a liquor store. read more

The store itself probably gets 4 stars. Just feel as though prices at other targets are a bit better . However - I need to make sure that one of the sales members receives the recognition she deserves! I wish I knew her name- but I'm hoping Target will be able to pinpoint who I'm talking about - she works the self checkout frequently. Usually Sundays(which is the day I go) she's there late afternoon- night. Yesterday (7/5/2015) around 4:30 PM she was there working the self checkout area. She's very petite, short hair, maybe somewhere between 40-50 years old, medium-dark skin tone, dark hair. SHE deserves a trillion stars. Always so friendly and remembers me when I walk in. I want Target to give her some praise and recognition. She is always very patient with people and goes out of her way to help them. She ensures that every guest leaves happy. She remains patient even when dealing with rude customers who grow testy in the self checkout lanes. She never loses her cool and practices outstanding customer service no matter how rude a guest may be. That's TOUGH! I worked in customer service for years and I know how difficult it is remain positive when a guest is unhappy and rude. She's always quick to lend a hand and help a coworker or customer. She's a shining example of what great service looks like and Target needs to be aware of this and ensure that's she's compensated for her efforts. Buy her lunch or a manicure /pedicure ... Do something nice for her because it's clear she spends a lot of time doing nice things for others. I really hope that this message reaches someone at the top of the hierarchy chain at Target who is authorized to do something nice for this woman. She's a gem and they are very lucky to have her! I want to personally thank her for always putting a smile on my face - I look forward to seeing her on Sunday's now! Target store as a whole- again pricing is definitely better at other Targets I have been to. But the store is kept clean and organized and overall is a great go to store for anything, really. read more

Taking a moment to review & say thank you to this store's employees for going the extra mile. Today (a Saturday afternoon & I believe the first day of the pre-black Friday sales) I went into this Target store to pick up a few items, including my favorite potting soil. I asked an associate to check the back because the usual garden area has been transformed into a holiday area and the kiosk says there are 12 in stock in the back. This associate went in the back to check but sent Darrell back out to inform me they were in fact in the back, but very hard to get to because they were high up & blocked by multiple items that were just delivered for this sale. When I asked Darrell when those items blocking this area would be stocked on store shelves so I could come back (I'd tried multiple Targets, Lowes & Home Depot) he said, don't worry. Just hang here, I'll take care of you. A few minutes later I got the two bags of soil I needed! Darrell was pleasant about the whole exchange, which I especially appreciated during this busy holiday sale roll out. read more

I am a regular here, and can find a good array of things I need and items I just have to have. They have a nice selection of travel items as well as hair care and Rimmel products, although their Sonia Kashuk section leaves something to be desired. Check-out is usually fast, and their cashiers are mostly courteous. The food selection is nice, although I only usually purchase snacks here. I like their music/DVD/book area as well, and their Back To School section is great. Not as big as some other Targets, and a little messy sometimes due to very high traffic flow, but overall a good stop, much better than Walmart or K-Mart (eek!!). read more

When weighing the options between Target and Wal Mart in South Philly, Target is the choice I go with, avoiding the wild west that is the South Philly Walmart.
