Upon arrival we were greeted with the nicest lady at the front desk, who kindly offered us water as we waited. That day we had to bring our two-month old son with us. My husband was seen first. As he was finishing up his exam, it was my turn...but I still had my baby in the carrier, who was starting to wake up. They were so awesome in letting me take our baby out in the testing room to feed him a bottle, while they tested my eyes at the same time. When I was done, they let me finish feeding him, then proceeded to help me gather up all my mommy things and take it to the exam room. As a new mom, that truly meant the world to me. It's a blessing to feel cared for and supported, especially in an unknown setting, surrounded by new faces. During my exam, Dr. Le was incredibly detailed and intentional. I learned things that doctors could have told me years ago, for example, the reasoning behind my eye dryness (not removing eye makeup before bed) and the reasons why my eye drops weren't working. I have been going to eye doctors since I was 12 years old and this experience by far was the best I've ever had. Although we live in Austin, we're going to make the drive back to VisualEyes any time we need eye care. The experience we had and the people who work there make every bit of that journey worth it!

Once there, they initially seemed like good people and their office is very nice. The bill, however, was exceptional. I brought my own frames, yet they still charged me $355 and billed my insurance for an additional $1200. The doctor and staff knew that I was moving out of state and would be leaving as soon as I got my new lenses in. Chaos came when I went to pick them up and could see nothing and got an instant headache. It ended up that the doctor decided that myself, my former eye surgeon, and about 10 prior optometrists were fools and that she was special and knew more than anyone. Without my consent, and to my extreme surprise, she had completely changed the prescription to something unusable and unhelpful. Try as I might, I could not get their office to fix the prescription to what she had stated when I agreed to the script and paid them. Now, close to a year later, I have no usable glasses unless I use my old pair from a decade ago. However, they do not have the presbyopia script so I have to constantly switch back and forth between my old glasses and my readers. This was all a direct result of the doctor having a seeming God complex and being unwilling to behave as a professional or decent human. In addition to her creating considerable harm in my life, I consider them to have stolen my money as I would never have paid for new lenses that I knew were such an opposite prescription of my eyes needs. I did speak with their office again recently about the matter and they were of no help. The doctor should lose her license for such unethical and unprofessional behavior.

UPDATE: I am not…read moresure if this replaced my January 10th post. I hope not...it was regarding my initial visit, ordering glasses, and contacts. Walked out the door paying $1300 and then called the next day for more money on a "Readers Package deal (frame and lenses) of $99", By their mistake on the frame they wanted an additional $139 for the difference of the frame. Then came back that I paid $99 for the lenses and $139 for the frames. The Doctor personally saw how much I was spending on glasses and I am sure saw how I opted to do every available test she offered and offered the $99 package for the readers. My 2 pairs of glasses and contacts came in. It was a quick, how can you see (looking at my phone screen and standing and reading off a wall chart). He commented regarding the "trial pair" of contacts, to give them a few days of "real world" wear and then let him know, and he would order the years supply that I paid $206 for. The next day when I was working on my computer, I was having a hard time with my "bifocal glasses", I made the mistake of getting another frame that was too big and rounded. I was having to tip my head back to see out the bottom portion of the lens to see my monitor. Last year, I saw my brother's optometrist and he was the first one EVER to point out that I needed a smaller rectangular shape frame and that would keep me from having to tilt my head back. It was after hours when I was picking frames and grabbed a purple one as it was my favorite color. They have no exchange policy like Walmart and other places. (So, they will most likely get donated at Walmart for charity and I will go there or Target for new glasses). I put in my contacts and those crazy expensive "readers"...that will go down as my most insane impulse buy!!! It is completely blurry. I go home and try my previous Walgreens 1.50 Readers and they are blurry too!. Another wasted $240!!! I emailed about exchanging the lenses in them, since I spent so much on the frame and it has barely been a couple weeks! We are back to no response. The only response was when I asked for a refund on the 12 months of contacts that I pre-paid for. I was told I only paid $130 after my vision ins discount and I would not find them anywhere else for that price. I came back and looked at the receipt. I did get the discount but, the cost was $336, minus discount made them $206! The final cost was not the $130 he threw out there. Then a few hours later I am getting an email and text thanking me for purchasing 12 months of contacts. So much for "real world" time and letting them know, and then they would order! Wow!!!! So, here I sit with two pairs glasses I cannot see out of. I can see out of the contacts and I will head to walgreens and try other strengths of readers for now. I am going to look up the manufacturer of the rectangular "readers" that I love and spent the outrageous amount on. I am going to reach out to them and see if I can send direct to them and pay for new lenses or if they can refer me to a decent customer service based Optometrist. The regular bifocals will go to the donate box and I guess the contacts are on their way. I will end on this note. Dr. Griffin is amazing!! Very knowledgeable and professional. Very thorough in tests options and explaining each one's results etc. I would do your exam, tests, see her, pay and then run for the door as fast as you can!!! It was a late afternoon appointment and I had dealt with blurry vision for weeks until my new FSA funds were available, that is why I let the sticker shock go past me and her $99 off on the readers with frames and blu block lenses. (Again, reminder from prior post. They went back on their word of that offer). Just not professional customer service in my opinion. I am supposed to go back and see her for my dry eye treatment but, I will probably go back to my brother's guy. He may be "out of network" but, I still walked out of his visit for a fraction of this one. They will NEVER see me again.

I looked at Benbrook/Fort Worth reviews and found De Grasse & Ratliff Eye Center - what a blessing! Everyone I encountered at De Grasse & Ratliff Eye Center was pleasant, assistive, and professional. My optometrist was Dr. Chad Carter. He took his time with me and was careful and thorough during the examination. He recommended and used lenses to demonstrate how the changes would impact my vision quality. While waiting to see Dr. Carter, I decided to review their extensive selection of frames. Mandy Roger-Gay, a Lead Optician, introduced herself and assisted me in finding frame options. My choices were made with her assistance before the exam (I knew I would need new frames as mine had broken). I have worn prescription eyewear for almost 60 years, since second grade. I have never had a more thorough and informative eye exam than the one conducted by Dr. Carter. I have never enjoyed more assistance and courteous service than Mandy's. Mandy took her time to measure for bi-focal lines carefully and made beneficial suggestions to ensure my new eyewear would provide me with the support I need to live and work with good eyesight. I am delighted I chose to drive the thirty miles to experience this level of friendly and professional service. I highly recommend De Grasse & Ratliff Eye Center, Dr. Chad Carter, and Mandy Roger-Gay for your optical needs.

I will never use Costco for eye care again. My first encounter with Ms. Tran was around December or January when I came in for a routine eye exam. She was rushed, dismissive, and completely lacking in basic customer service. I brushed it off at the time, thinking maybe she was just having a rough day. But after returning recently, it's clear that her rude and unprofessional behavior is a consistent pattern--not a one-time slip. Last week, I stopped in before shopping to request a copy of my prescription since my glasses had broken. The receptionist was kind and began looking it up--until Ms. Tran yelled from inside her office, "We tell you to take a picture of it!" I calmly explained that I didn't have a copy and needed it. Instead of assisting, Ms. Tran told the receptionist, "You don't have time to look for it--you can just email it to her later." As the receptionist was taking down my email, another woman walked in and greeted Ms. Tran. Her response? "Sit down and wait until she's done." No courtesy, no professionalism--just another example of her daily attitude. I've never encountered a medical professional who carries themselves with such a blatant lack of respect--not just toward patients but even toward her own staff. Based on other reviews I've seen since, I know I'm not alone. Costco, do better you've lost a customer because of this experience. I strongly urge upper management to address Ms. Tran's behavior. It's unacceptable and reflects poorly on your entire organization.

My experience with Dr. Tran's office was concerning. I was there for a basic contact lens fitting but was repeatedly and aggressively asked for my medical insurance. My medical insurance was subsequently billed for imaging services I did not consent to, and the claim was denied. My insurance company is now in a dispute with the office over this fraudulent billing. This has never happened to me in over a decade of visiting optometrists and feels like a scam.
