My buddy and I found this place when we discovered the Garland public range was under water. It was our good fortune. The place reminds me of a good old fashioned gun store. Wood plank floors, leather chairs, lots of wildlife mounts and lots of guns! Nice, helpful folks work here. They explained the range rules and checked our ammo to make sure we had no steel. The range itself was pretty typical and in good shape. I liked the fact that there was a large black German Shepard to keep an eye on things. He is very friendly but you know he is the boss dog! Interesting how many guns they have on consignment. Next time I go back I want to take a closer look at what is available. My friend had a malfunction with his pistol while shooting. It is nice they have a gunsmith on site. He left the gun with him and it was back in business a day later. Great service! read more

Hard to find a good range in Texas. In Arizona, we had plenty of good, clean, well lit ranges. The range itself is dark and mediocre, the old man working there wasn't having a great day, and at $18 bucks, it's not necessarily cheap either. I'll have to keep looking around. read more

A year ago I was looking for a gun range near my home. The closest I could find was Target Master. With me being new to the gun range scene I should have done my homework but I figured everything was going to be okay dealing with Target Master. First off their facility is out dated. There is not good ventilation in the shooting bays so if you have some questionable clean ammo, you are subject to choke yourself out. There is no speed shooting so if you want to know how fast your gun can cycle you're in the wrong place. The bays look beat to heck. Nothing like the newer ones you see on YouTube. The bays are shot up and there is brass everywhere like it has not been cleaned in weeks. Which leads to the next gripe. They only want customers to shoot brass ammo. With times being what they are, people are trying to get whatever they can find. Going to other gun ranges I have found that no one cares what you shoot as long it is not tracer ammo. Target Master says that you can't shoot steel or copper casing ammo because of safety. It seems like the only reason this is a rule is because they want to reload the brass at a higher price for a resale. Buying their reloaded ammo you're going to pay triple the price for factory ammo. Also, buying firearms is not a cheap process. It seems like their prices are factory MSRP. I have found that their prices are so bad that you might as well buy it from the actual Firearms Co. Also, do not try to sell your gun to them thinking you're going to use that money to buy another one. You are subject to get less than half of what you paid for it. The employees are usually pretty nice as long as you catch them on a good day. They are very knowledgeable and willing to help you, but their Gunsmith is a jerk and a lair. Needless to say I am never going back. It just seems like you can't be yourself and have fun and shoot how you like. read more

For the most part, I'm good with the personnel and facility. Just beware of one guy that wants to charge you for targets you did not use. We will take the one they provide and bring our own as well. It has only happened twice, but the same guy. I first shrugged it off because I did not want to argue over $3. When it happened again, it became annoying after I though about it. The People Are Incredibly Kind, Knowledge, and Helpful. The range was old but clean and got the job done. The store is family owned and operated. There are dogs in the store They have everything you could need from classes to ammo to every kind of gun. Even saw some conceal carry purchases and VETERAN/FIRE FIGHTER COFFEE. I like the fact that you can pay a reasonable fee and shoot all day in both pistol/rifle ranges. The ranges are old, poorly lit, have little to no ventilation and target pulley systems could seriously hurt you if you don't stand back far enough. I bring my own ammunition, targets and ear/eye protection to save money. If you want to get down to business and work on your grouping at 10-50 yards or sight-in your rifle this is your place. read more

Target Master has a very nice selection of inventory, services and classes but that's where the pleasant experience stops. On two different visits an older heavy set gentleman has been rather rude and condescending when I had inquired about a service and when I was making my selection of a firearm for purchase. I understand that they probably are doing just fine without my business, but I was a paying customer looking to spend more on my visits. Just because I stumbled on my words when making a purchase, I was put on the spot and made out to look like a fool. Also on another visit, when I was inquiring about their services to have work done on one of my firearms, I was questioned on "why I would want to do that?". It was a regular swap of parts on my ar15 and the guy behind the counter is basically hassling me because it seemed like it is not something he would have done to his firearm, and asked me "where would you even shoot something like that?" I told him I had a spot out in Kaufman with friends and he's just being a smartass saying things seemingly to either 1) get out of making the appointment for servicing my ar15 or 2) Target Master is just his home away from home, a little hangout spot and doesn't run things like a business. And that right there pretty much sums it up, it's like a big ol' family hangout spot more so than a business, and if you're not a part of their club, then you're just a nuisance. It's a real shame, I've brought my family here and it's a real let down to try and share something with the people I love and to have experienced it like this, but it's fine, because and gunsmith out there. read more

I shoot here only because there doesn't seem to be any other indoor ranges that allow rifles. First of all when I called for information and asked if they gave a military discount, the rude girl on the other end of the line said "No, we don't pass along the cost of giving you a discount just because you served in the military". I immediately crossed them off the list but, calling around to other indoor ranges I found that either their range rates were way to high or they had stupid restrictions lime hand guns only. So I was forced to ignore their dislike of veterans and shoot at their range. The actual ranges are old, beat up and in disrepair. They have silly restrictions on what ammo you can shoot.........only because they only want brass they can reload and resell for triple the cost. read more

I have to say one thing... the first time I went there, it was just to sight in my Keltec PLR 16. That was when I got information on their CHL class. I took a class like this back in 1996 for my CHL, and I have to say that this class was far better and more then I expected. Not only was it cheaper then others out there, they go over everything you need from weapons and ammo selection, to holster selection, and self defense. It was fantastic. In addition, their weapons rental shelf is off the charts with the various weapons you can rent to make a good decision in your purchase. I needed a loader for my clips Joe offered me the use of the range loader but I wanted to have my own the price was competitive Joe couldn't be nicer . I asked questions about rentals and Joe had the ans very smooth operation.we rented a Smith and Wesson 22. The range was spotless we had a great time air-conditioning was on. read more

Am looking for a new everyday carry an thy had both models I was looking for as rentals. Good vibe walking in. wood floors, lots of guns and other options, but the fun stops there. Checked me in and was off to the range. Well this place needs a ton of work. Guy in line was shooting long guns and needed tape to keep the targets mounted. Hmmm. First red flag. When I opened the door to the 1-10 lanes, I noticed it was a rather thin door with an old spring at the bottom to keep it closed. Not great for sound containment. My "panel" for the lane had 6 unmarked buttons. I know that on the waiver that you read, it had a picture of what the buttons do, but they really need to get them labeled. No distance markers other than a "light" at a few distances. When checking out , I asked for a Veteran discount, but they dont provide one. So 1 lane, rental, ammo for rental and target was $48!!!! There are much better ranges that recognize our Vets and are much better maintained and less expensive. read more

I had not been to a gun range before this last year and have been twice since. I was slightly paranoid at first and worried that some random strangers would shoot me. People are crazy nowadays so you never know. The shooting itself was fun but the noise level was so loud that it gave me a migraine. Even with the hearing protection, it was still very loud, but it's like that everywhere right? The wait is usually long on the weekend (upwards of an hour), and the staff are nice, even to beginners like myself. I'd recommend you go with someone that's been before, it usually makes for a much more enjoyable experience. The range prices are about $17 a person, and it's best to buy your bullets before you come here. I was slightly grossed out by the used goggles they provided because I'm not sure if they sanitize them. I'd bring my own next time. I can't really compare this place to other places since it's the only one I have been to, but it was fun nonetheless. Tips: -Wear closed toes shoes and pants. You don't want the bullet casings flinging at you and there a lot of bullets on the ground that can cut you here (just like all gun ranges) -If you don't like loud noises stay away from this place (and all gun ranges really) -If you're paranoid with armed people then stay away from this place (and all gun ranges really..) -Bring your own eye and ear protection, so you can save some money here (and all gun ranges really......) -Go with someone who knows how to shoot so they can teach you (and so that you don't have to rent a gun) -If you're a guy who is good at shooting and want to impress a girl of interest, this could be your chance to shine! Nice facility but when I called ahead I was quoted 18 and 11 for range and shells. Turns out is was 25 and 21 respectively, but I didn't complain. They have a lot of weapons to rent and they were helpful. I got hit by a piece of shrapnel when someone fired a magnum at the target too close (maybe hit the frame or something) but no big. Best indoor place I've been to shoot in Dallas, although I much prefer shooting outside. The staff is friendly and you get unlimited gun rentals for $10. You do have to buy their overpriced ammo for use in their rental guns like every other place - well, the 9mm was expensive but the .45 wasn't bad. I've never had to wait more than 25 mins for a lane either. The only downside is they won't let you shoot steel-core ammo and if they find that you have any, will keep it behind the desk until you leave. But it is for safety reasons so I won't fault them for that and they did make sure to remember to return it to me upon checkout even though I had forgotten about it. read more

I showed up at 5 after noon and still had to wait 25 mins to get on the rifle range. Pistol wasn't nearly as bad but DAYUM! On the one hand I'm bummed / irritated that I have to wait, on the other I'm excited about all the new folks exercising their 2nd amendment rights. I went here for the first time today. Overall, a pretty nice place. No wait whatsoever (always a good thing) and I felt like going to an indoor range this time because it was about 100 degrees outside. I did some pistol shooting today, looks like they have tons of bays. The pistol ranges look like they go to 25yds, and they use an automatic rail system to manage your targets. Its a little warm in the bay area even though its indoors, but they do have individual fans in each bay to keep you cool. They also have a pretty good selection of gear and guns, if you want to go shopping around for stuff. Their prices seemed a little on the high side, they wanted $60 for a walther pps extended mag...I've been looking for one, but I'll steer clear of that price. Can't say anything about their rifle ranges, never got a chance to check it out. All in all, I'm a fan. No wait, clean bay, relatively cheap range fees, and the staff is pretty friendly. I may go here instead of Bullet Trap from now on since the wait is much shorter (or non-existent). read more

I have a confession to make: I like to shoot shit. I've mostly tagged along with my parents to their gun range, but when I decided to buy a gun I knew it was time to find my own range. Enter Targetmaster. My biggest concern about becoming a gun owner, as a female, was encountering the Good Old Boy mentality of not taking gun-toting women seriously. I've never once been made to feel that way at Targetmaster. The staff is incredible. They're friendly as hell and have answered every question I've thrown at them with enthusiasm and a true desire to help me find the right gun. Since I plan on getting my CHL and will need plenty of practice, both before and after my class, I decided to join the range to save a bit on my fees. A family membership is $150/year - single membership is $100 - and cuts the range fees in half from $15 to $7.50. Members also have the option of buying a 20 session pre-paid punch card for $100, which saves another $50. On top of that, members also get various discounts on anything purchased from Targetmaster, weapons included. The range itself is great because it's so big, meaning you don't have to wait during peak times. There are 24 lanes (25-50 yards) that are separated into two rooms. During cold weather it can get a little chilly despite the space heaters so plan accordingly for that. If you don't already own your own equipment, Targetmaster rents weapons ($15 for non-members, $10 for members). You have to buy their ammo which can be a little pricey (depending on caliber), but if you're not sure about what gun to buy this is a perfect way to test out several different guns. You get a complimentary circle target and can pay to upgrade to silhouettes ($2) and color photo targets ($5). I used to frequent this range often, even though there are a few closer to where I live. After my last range session, I was injured due to old, splintered bench rests in their rifle area. I brought it to 2 different employees attention and was pretty much shrugged off. I had to go directly to Care Now to have it treated and paid $200 out of pocket for treatment and antibiotics. When I got home, I sent an email to Target Master in regards to everything and still have not received a response. I will be more than happy to spend more money and take my business elsewhere where they value their customers and actually keep their range up to standards. Target Master hasn't renovated the range areas in decades and it shows (and smells). Poor ventilation, the target carriers are hit or miss if they fully function correctly, poorly lit, and it seems like they have no range officers to correct bad/ unsafe habits. Prices on their used guns are higher than buying new elsewhere and if you try to sell them a gun, you'll be significantly low-balled. Don't dare look at the astronomical prices of their ammo. This used to be a great place but there are better, more modern ranges around now with employees that are consistently in a better mood. DFW Gun Range in farther, but they aren't a bunch of jerks with condescending attitudes. $18 for the day per person is pretty good if you'll stay for a bit. The husband and I dropped in around 5pm on Saturday and it was about half full. The staff were all friendly and were lenient with double taps/rapid fire. I appreciated this since I needed some practice controlling my groups. There were no range officers on the lanes, so pray someone's watching the cameras - there definitely were many of them. The lanes weren't well kept with boxes, targets, and a week's worth of casings thrown down range. The walls and ceilings were riddled with holes, which isn't their fault however since everything was plywood, I'd imagine it's not hard nor expensive to replace more frequently. read more

I am a combat medically retired Marine with 18 years of experience. I served primarily as an Infantry Platoon Sergeant but also 5 years as a weapons and tactics instructor. From day 1 you are taught "safety is paramount." During my range experience at Target Master, I noticed that they do not have range safety officers (RSO) in any of the bay's. This is the first range I have been to that did not use RSO's. You have shooters behind the line with firearms with magazines inserted waiting to fire, flagging of the line, and issues with malfunctions and no one understanding how to properly clear them. Safety is a collective responsibility among all the shooters however, I should not have to take time to correct multiple deficiencies with other shooters. If your life and safety mean anything to you I would not utilize this range until they institute RSO's and put the patrons safety above all else. read more

I had a nice experience in my 3 visits that I made before my 4th and last visit. Rapid fire is allowed as long as its controlled but when I rapid fired my 16in AR in 5.56 with a muzzle brake, a younger (30s-40s) man told me that even though he couldn't tell if I controlled the weapon well that "You cant rapid fire in my range". I listened and took my business elsewhere and I think you should too. The rest of the staff were always nice but the place is lacking in the lighting department when it comes to the pistol and rifle ranges. read more

What's a girl to do when she gets a gun from her over-protective big brother for Christmas? Go to Target Master and attempt to know what she's doing, that's what! We came here on New Year's Day because my trigger finger was itching to get ahold of my new toy---err, protection. While being an indoor gun range makes it so convenient during the winter time to go shoot, it also amplifies the gun sounds -- even with the proper head/ear gear on & that really was bad for my nerves (me, with a loaded gun, constantly flinching because of the guns going off around me -- yeah -- steer clear). Other than that, I have no complaints about Target Master. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Before we went, I visited their website which answers any and all questions you could possibly have, so that made check-in and everything else pretty easy. The facility is extremely large -- they have a range for "regular" guns and then the shot-gun range on the other side. I didn't venture over to the shot-gun side to take a look at the digs, but the regular range has about 20 gun lanes, so plenty of lanes for you to choose from. They also have a gun shop with a wide-variety of...stuff...for your shooting pleasures. Magazines, bullets, holsters, cases, any and everything, I believe they have it. If you don't have bullets, they have them. If you don't have head/ear gear, they have it. If you forgot something at home or you haven't purchased it, they have it there for purchase, rent, or loaners for your time at the gun range. The highlight of my night was leaving and the owner's all black German Shepherd made an appearance. He was a big teddy bear and let me pet and rub all over him! Yeah, see how focused I am, I'm supposed to be learning and getting use to my gun and the highlight of my night was the dog. Eh! read more

The male staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The older female that works here was rude, condescending, and made us feel as if we were a nuisance to deal with. I will gladly no longer be a nuisance and will never come back here simply because of the exchange I had with this woman. I am not (in the slightest) inexperienced with firearms or range etiquette. And even if someone is, you can't treat your customers this way - or you won't have any. They charged the same price for each shooter even though we were sharing a lane. The range is certainly outdated, no distance markers. The ammo was GROSSLY overpriced (I will mention that I'm writing this in Jun. 2021 and there is still an ammo shortage...add that to the fact that ranges always mark up their ammo prices anyway). I bought .38 special reloads (for $33!!!) because that's all they had. Several of them were bulging at the base so much they wouldn't even fit into the cylinder on my revolver. Completely unusable. Sadly, I cannot recommend this range. read more

Save Your Money! I went there three times and with a borrowed handgun I shot at targets three boxes of shells - 150. I was good and it built my confidence after having my life threatened twice in two years. Targetmaster then sold me entry into a class for a 'concealed' license - and a $1,250 (with tax) 38 Special Night Python Colt Revolver. I attended the class - and within an hour and a half the class was told - "Please don't come to my range if you are on coumadin". That was just after a general warning that if someone knew we had a gun, they'd likely follow us home and rob our house, certain there would be more than one gun there. With the coumadin threat - I left the class - another trainer outside asked why I quit - I told him because I was on coumadin and the lady told us we weren't welcome if we were on coumadin. He appeared to understand. I went to the owner and asked what he would give me for the new $1,250 Colt revolver I owned about a week. "$250 - maybe $275...I have to buy it wholesale." I'll give it away. Thinking of getting your handgun conceal permit? My advice - DON'T BUY A GUN FIRST! Get the permit first. Make certain you are sure you want to move forward - and then, and only then, buy your gun. It could save you $1,250, even or more. read more

Old target holders with binder clips 14 inches apart so 12 inch targets dont work. Just an uncomfortable experience all around. Needed to wipe my glasses every five shots i was sweating so much. Targetmaster is a large, open gun store with a welcoming feel and a fairly extensive selection of firearms. The staff isn't overly friendly, but they're knowledgable and accommodating. The pistol range is adequate, though not the best in town. It's not as well lit or ventilated as some of the other ranges I visit. The main reason I visit Targetmaster is the 50 yard rifle range where you're allowed to shoot higher calibre rifles (30+). BUT, it's the darkest, dankest, most poorly ventilated range I've ever been to. I regularly see guys wearing those paper filter masks while shooting, so expect to get a lung-ful of lead vapor. I wish there were another 50 yard indoor range nearby, but there isn't. If you're trying to sight in irons, expect to go blind from the lack of lighting. It's a miserable experience. So, overall, I like Targetmaster, but it has some mean shortcomings. read more

The location is a bit far for me, so I only go periodically, but Targetmasters is a nice place to shoot. The good: There are many slots so there is rarely/never a wait. They have an excellent selection of rental guns, everything from your standard 9 & 40 affairs like Glock, Sig, and H&K to some fairly exotic stuff like the FN 5.7X28 (both pistol and carbine). There are a wide variety of paper targets and ammo isn't terribly expensive. The staff is generally quiet knowledgeable and friendly. So much so that even after my first experience with them (story below) I continue to come back from time to time and even purchased a rifle from them. When it comes down to it they are good people. The Bad: Some of the range guns are a bit worn out. My first time there I actually stopped in with a friend whom suggested we stop by, so I did not have any of my own pistols with me. Fair enough- I rented a H&K USP (in 40. S&W, I believe, it's been a couple of years at this point) but was horrified to discover it was shooting something like 6 inches low and right at 15 yards. I went back to the desk to suggest maybe someone had knocked their sights around good and that they should probably put it on their list of things to check out. The girl behind the counter, in so many words, told me that " I was shooting it wrong." While I agree, being off by that much at that short of range is frequently user error, I have been shooting for better than 20 years and at this point I know how to "do it right." Interestingly enough my personal USP doesn't do that, so who is to say? Make your own decisions. Also, the ventilation is half terrible. I would not suggest staying in the range too long because you will get a serious case of "What have I been breathing?" In general Targetmasters is a excellent gun store, their range is spacious,the staff knowledgeable and friendly, and rentals are plentiful; not a bad place to pop in for an hour or two. Really the only thing preventing me giving them a 4 star is the ventilation, it really is quite terrible. read more
