This is a review for Target Optical, though I am a fan of the actual Target store, too. Originally had an eye exam scheduled at French Optical in the city, based on very positive Yelp reviews. Ended up going to Target Optical in Edgewater because I live in Edgewater, making it way more convenient. The price was basically the same as French. 50.00 for an eye exam, or 125.00 for an eye exam plus contact lens exam. Dr. Dara is pleasant and helpful, and the exam was informative and thorough. She offered to dilate my pupils (extra 25.00), which I had never had done before. All in all, 150.00, which I found to be a good price. I never once felt rushed, and I was also given 5 trial pairs of contacts and a case. I figured I wasn't going to get glasses there because the selection was probably crap, but when I looked around I found Ray Bans (!), so I scooped up 2 pairs of wayfarers. Grand total on the 2 pairs of prescription glasses: 400.00. That's a deal in my book. Will absolutely go back for an exam next year. read more

Once again I made the mistake of going to the target store on River Road in Edgewater. After doing my shopping I stood on the line to wait to get on a register line. After waiting for a while the girl who was doing the directing put me on a line that was 4 people deep. All of them had full carts.. I stood there for a while and I watched her direct the people behind me to other registers who were checking out and leaving the store. After a little while longer I heard someone go over to her and tell her they were opening up another register.. She then directed the next person waiting to that register so I turned around and I said why would you put me on this line that's 4 people deep.. She ignored me.. I left my cart where it was and walked over to the customer relations area and I say that loosely and asked for the manager. Unfortunately I was dealing with 2 guys who made dumb and dumber look smart and I wound up walking out of the store. Don't go there people.. Pretty disappointed with this Target. It's a bit dim with slim aisles which is to be expected when you're at the water's edge---no land to build on! The parking lot is a nightmare with people jutting in and out --great way to have an accident. Always packed as its the nearest big box discount store for a while, things are typically out of stock. I hate that the the restroom is all the way in the very back left corner of the store---most Target's restroom are right when you walk in the door. Some price comparisons: Good & Plenty: Target-$1.09, Walmart-88 cents Scott 20 pack of toliet paper: Target (on sale)-$13, Walmart (not on sale)-$13.85 Sorry, Target, but Walmart beats ya everytime! OMG. WHAT is with this 5% card? I go to the checkout, running late, and listen to the lady in front of me being harassed to get the Target card even though she repeatedly says no to the check out clerk. The check out clerk keeps relentlessly pushing. Obviously, someone's bonus is attached to selling cards. But who would get a card with Target's abysmal security record? Also, I really don't need to save 5% to deal with the aggravation of another credit or debit card. When it's my turn to check out, I say immediately "I don't want the card." The clerk launches into reason after reason why I should get the card and finally after I say "No" four times he says "Look you could have saved $2. Are you sure you don't want the card?" Whereupon I raise my voice and say "No MEANS NO!". He then grumbles to me that His MANAGER makes him do it. The other Target stores (North Bergen) are not half as bad. They ask, you say no, and that's the end. But this Edgewater store is the worst pushing the card! I'm just not going back. Look, when people are checking out, all they want to do is get out of the store. They're probably late or something. That's the worst time to try and make a credit related sale. I've also heard stories of people standing in line waiting and waiting for the person in front of them to apply for the card. This holds EVERYONE up. Just have ONE competent greeter at the entrance of the store saying hello and asking if you want to save 5%. When the customer enters, the customer can just walk by, or if the customer knows they're going to drop a ton of money, maybe then they'll do it. The greeter can take them to customer service to fill out whatever and it won't hold up the check out line. But PLEASE TARGET, stop making your check out clerks try and sell a financial product. Check out clerks are NOT salespeople to begin with. They are on the bottom rung of professional competency. These are the wrong people to be trying to make a sale. Get one trained greeter who knows how to make a sale to make the Target card pitch when people are ENTERING, and not when they're rushing to get the heck out of there. But even though this Edgewater store is closest to me, I'm going elsewhere. I've had it. read more

As far as Target stores in my area, I would say this one is nicer and bigger than the one on Tonnelle. I feel like it's brighter inside too...or maybe that's just because I went during the day today and I went to the other store at night time. I only had to go in to return some printer ink that I had gotten the wrong kind of and I was lucky enough that there wasn't a line and the cashier didn't make a fuss over the opened cartridge that I had taped closed. I actually opened the ink too so I feel bad if they put it back on the shelf and some unknowing customer gets it, but I guess that's Target's job to take care of, not mine. Other than that, she was quick and I got my money back, so I was a happy customer. After going to Staples and picking up the correct ink I needed at a cheaper price (cheaper...not cheap) I wandered back to Target to window shop. I don't know what it is about that place but I like walking around that store, I always want to buy things I definitely don't need. They must have a good visual merchandiser. But I was strong and left empty handed. All in all, this Target is nice so I have no complaints. read more

All Target stores seem the same to me, so there's nothing special about this one. The good thing about it is that it's close to Mitsuwa so I can stop by before I do my grocery shopping. I like Target in general; it's a far better alternative to Kmart, which is all we have in Manhattan. Seriously, why don't they build a Target here? There are all these Target ads in Times Square, but no Target. What the heck? One thing--avoid this store's optometrist at all costs. They cheat. They lie. I use to love going to Target until I went on a Saturday. The lines were a mess . There was no carts and there was salvage out. Product placement was bad. I heart Target. I really do. From groceries to clothing to housewares, Target is a great one stop shop. Their produce is fresh but the selection clearly doesn't compare to a supermarket. BUT for convenience it's a great plus to be able to pick up some milk or bread while picking up some office supplies and a prescription. This location is much better than the north bergen outpost. It has a great selection and it's kept more organized. They always have a ton of registers open so the wait at checkout isn't too long. They have a lot of people on the floor but I've found that usually only a select few are very helpful. If you don't feel like venturing to the standalone Starbucks in the complex, you can always stop in here. I'm a pretty novice couponer but Target definitely gives me my fix! They offer coupons on their website. I recently downloaded their cartwheel app which offers deals on particular products which you select on your phone and the cashier scans the code directly from your phone for instant savings. I even opened a Target card so there's another 5% off! read more

As far as Target stores go, this one is middle of the road. The store is fairly stocked, but things tend to wander away from where they should be. Some things they just never gotten in (Low-Carb Monster Energy - the shelf has been empty for over a year). The price checking scanners are the old model, not letting you check by DCPI, so you can't check if there's any in stock w/o tracking down a less than helpful employee. Clearance pricing is a crapshoot, where the price on the sticker may be higher or lower when you bring it to the register. To top it off, it's closed on Sundays due to Bergen County Blue Laws, and unlike it's North Bergen counterpart, it charges 7% sales tax as opposed to 3.5% UPDATE - I had to return an item purchased here with a credit card that was compromised; they would only offer store credit and not any other type of refund. Poor customer service, won't go back until this is resolved. read more

We stupidly returned an item and left something personal inside. Went to the store to see if the item was still there, but they assured it was no longer there and there was nothing else they can do. I asked them if they knew where the item would be shipped to, and the only answer they can give me is that it was picked up every night. I begged them, to see if they can ask somebody where this would be shipped to, but they told me that nobody knows. Really? nobody in the store knows where the returned items go to? Nobody knows who picks it up? NOBODY KNOWS, was the final answer. One of the staff, even had the "cojones" to tell me, that all the salvaged items gets thrown into a dumpster. Really? can I take them then??? The manager told me to call guest relations, which I did, but they had no idea what the process was, and my best bet was to ask the staff at the store. I didn't asked them to locate the item. Since they already checked and it wasn't in the store, I just wanted to know where the item might have been shipped to, so I can call that place. That's all. This is my "go to" Target. It's just a few miles from my home and is surrounded by other desirable retail establishments, including Bed, Bath, and Beyond, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Old Navy, etc. There are also tons of moderately appealing retail establishments. Heck, this is right in the heart of Edgewater, so there's almost EVERYTHING here except a Home Depot. I like this Target. It's clean and well stocked. Target has a "Target Card" program where you can register your debit account and get a 5% discount on all purchases. I have done this and use it every time. Every little bit counts. If I forget, Customer Service is nice and efficient about refunding my 5%.The store is easy to navigate. It's also right along the Hudson. It's a great place for a romantic moonlit walk, or even a dog walk if you bring your pooch along (don't leave unattended in the car). Generic drugs sell for $4 each here. When my dog was on Prozac for a short period, that came in super handy. Here's the only downside: it's in Bergen County, which means they are closed on Sundays. On Sundays, I go to my local ghetto Target in North Bergen. The place is a dump in comparison, but it's open on Sunday. (My sister's car was hit in North Bergen by a hit and run driver on a weeknight. I grew up in the midwest and moved to NJ about 15 years ago - I was SOOO excited when the first Targets opened in this area. Being from the midwest I was used to going to Target all the time as a kid. We probably went once a week and reviewing the target circular in the paper was a weekly ritual. Well, I don't get the paper now, but I still love checking out the bargains and just cool stuff at my local Target. It's great for getting stuff for around the house, seasonal stuff and even health and beauty (although I get a 20% Rite Aid discount on their loyalty plan so I try not to buy too much at Target if I could get it in Rite Aid). I recently signed up for a Target card and whenever I use it I get 5% off on all my purchases! Got to love that. There are other Targets in the area (North Bergen) but this is the one I prefer. Traffic can sometimes be a bear to get into the parking lot on busy weekends, but it's worth it. There are also lots of other great shops in the mall. Oh, and Starbucks junkies, they just opened a Starbucks inside the store as well so now you don't even have to go to the Starbucks that is in this same shopping center in order to get your fix. :) read more

I've always been a fan of Target since they have a various assortment of different items which is very convenient. They have recently renovated this Target so the setup holds more merchandise for the building size. This target is generally very busy so I recommend coming in the mornings around opening time. Since this store is crowded, don't be too surprised to see that the store may be disorganized with random items in different departments and long lines at checkout. Today I was there to pick up online order. I was waiting in a car for awhile. Then got an automated text "sorry for delay"", and immediate another one saying that order was picked up. I went to the store customer service to find where is my order, and how come status is picked up but it wasn't. They were rude. I learned that all is my fault. I shouldn't pay attention to the text messages! Never again I'll use their "service" and do not recommend this store in general. read more

This has got to be one of the worst Targets in Northern NJ. Even after its recent renovation (fall 2010), it's filthy, poorly laid out, small, crowded and ill-stocked. Service is mediocre: never enough cashiers working, but the staff does seem friendly enough. One benefit to the renovation was the addition of the grocery section, which is reasonably good. They even have some fresh fruit and veggie options (nothing exotic), making it a fair substitute for the actual market if you're in a pinch. Note: the store no longer stocks maternity clothing, so head elsewhere if that's on your list. read more

Target has it all! This is a very clean, large and organized Target store. I didn't notice many attendants on the floor but I'm sure I could have found one if I needed one. This store also has a Starbucks located inside of it and has plenty of parking. What else can you ask for? Loses a star because I purchased a mascara that was old and dry once I opened it. I love Target, but their stores are always a hit and miss. This once is nicely situated in a large parking lot surrounded by a lot of different stores and restaurants. I love coming in here late at night. I believe they close at 11pm. I don't know why, but i personally love to shop at nice and avoid large crowds. The 1 star reviews are a bit shocking because i never had a bad experience when i come in here. I usually always come in for 1 thing, but walk out with 50 things. Than again, that is probably what makes Target so special. The fact is, i think a lot of people who are budget conscious really come in here to get 1 thing that is a pure essential and then it turns into a long hour event with shoppers carrying multiple bags when leaving through the front door. I do have to say that this particular location does get a tad messy and i think its because the staff doesn't try to organize things. I can't blame anyone because when i come in here, it is always after 10pm and the sun has long gone so perhaps the store is in impeccable condition when they open in the morning. Another reason for the bad rating and this is more my fault then Target is that the location is nice, but i wish it was closer to my apartment. I can't exactly walk here and if i do, my hips might break off and damn NJ Transit for being so unreliable. read more

I went to target yesterday to pick up a few things. It was a very hot day and face masks are supposed to be worn in stores. However target did not have the air conditioning on or it was on very low. The store was so hot it was almost impossible to keep the face mask on. If they expect people to wear masks they should keep the temperature at a cool setting in the summer to prevent people from getting sick or passing out from having their faces covered in such hot conditions. read more

I had a jacket I took from floor smal size. and manager Layza told me to she can hold that size and to order to xs if not I was gona get to what I hold it. Manager Layza told me that she put her office she post to let me know with the product . 3 times I get to store I have my number to customer service she can let me know what's going on and every single time she said it's not there but I'm assuming it was very nice coat maybe she bought herself.is what's going on she didn't even called me even once to heads me up saying if the product out of stuck or after 5 days she can not hold it anything to inform me I can go get the small size . The last time I came here, the store was being renovated. Now it feels like they expanded a little. They have a fresh fruit and vegetable aisle, and I love the upgrades they did. They moved the store around so it's hard for me to get use to where everything is, but overall... It's not a bad place to shop. I see a lot of people claim the store as being messy, and such... but it wasn't that bad. Have you seen TJ MAXX? The customer service is where I would agree with everyone. We walk in to exchange something, and they had 2 registers open with about 4 people on line in front of me. One lady is applying for a Target card while returning her item, and at the other register you had a Asian mother and a teen daughter. The mother did not speak English at all, and so the daughter tries to translate. The woman at the register wasn't being smug, as she was keeping it simple and talking simple. In the end and literally 10 minutes later, they figured out why she had charges on a target card that she THOUGHT she didn't have... She applied for one to get a discount and forgot about it. Meanwhile, the other woman is still finishing up her paperwork... ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! The icing on the cake is, as the Asian woman leaves, the other woman finishes up and leaves too, so now they decide to open a 3rd register for 2 people on line... Dumb! read more

Why does this target depress me? I love going to target. But this location falls short of the norm. First thing. The carts are do old and bulky. Their wheels are all crisis crossed so it's like pushing in mud. Great work out for the arms but super annoying for shopping. Next. The baby selection is blah. Third. What's with the music? There is none. That's fact plus the bad lighting is felt like it was some old shop rite. Lastly I go to check out. The lady at the register was not friendly to me at all. This place used to be among the best Targets out there but not anymore. It has now become one of the worst in the area. Shelves are poorly stocked. Lines are always long. Only 4 self-checkouts and they've virtually done away with employee-run registers. While other Targets in the area are getting beautifully remodeled, this one continues to go down the drain. Surprisingly because the store always seems busy. I guess Target just doesn't care anymore about providing satisfactory service to their Edgewater customers. read more

So I came on New Year's Eve looking for pajamas for a pajama party. I was looking for something in my size, but couldn't find anything. Thankfully Cristina, an employee came to the rescue! She asked if I needed help and when I told her I did, she even looked in the back stock room to see if they had what I wanted there. She was great and made my experience quick and easy!
