After having known of this restaurant location and of the local chain for at least 10 years, we the family have wanted to try it but would never think of it when going out to eat. So, after having read many Yelp reviews, especially on the breakfast, we went. Overall, it was okay, but not great or fantastic. When we entered, we noticed it was busy with a lot of hispanic/Mexican locals so we thought it surely had to be great as I had read about. My wife (who is a Mexican) and son gives it 2 stars, and I give it 4 stars. Compromise at 3 stars. But disappointed and probably won't go back. One of our 1st evaluation criteria is the chips and salsa. The chips were like any cheap store bought chip bag and a sad excuse of offering, salsas were ok, but not great, with the green sauce very hot the way we like it. 2nd criteria are the rice and refried beans. Anyone can open cans and a box, but it takes just a little extra effort, not much, to make great outstanding b & r. These were tasty, not bland like so many other rest's. I had a 2 mt. combo plate w/barbacoa and pastor, not bad. Son had the Taquitos plate w/pastor from app. menu. Wife had ckn. enchiladas. A pineapple agua fresca that son hated and wife thought was not good at all. I had sweet tea. I guess to each their own. Where it is at least close to authentic, it was not as good as others make it out to be. With so many offerings in this town, why go back? read more

Stumbled on this place by accident when looking for more affordable tacos (no offense torchys). This location by far is cut above the rest of the Taco Arandinas--I can't explain why but I have Been to all he other locations! Prices are good, lady servers are nice who do speak English, and quality is great. Best Mexican food place in the area. Inexpensive. My wife, daughter, and I can eat here for under $30 and be filled. Good food. I've never had a bad meal here. Flautas, tacos, chimichanga, shrimp cocktail, it's all good. Service. They may not all speak English very well, but they're friendly enough, and some waitresses that work here have recognized me and my family and they're kind. One thing I will say, the salsa verde is of varying degrees of heat. This place is good. Pretty much everything you order here will be good. Salsa is fresh, avocado is fresh (it doesn't taste plasticy). Parking is not great- can be difficult to get a good parking spot- but hey- that gives you a clue to the inventory turn around and you know that you will not be eating last month's fajitas. We stopped here for breakfast after a night of drinking on 6th Street, and what a great decision someone in our group made. I believe the chips and salsa are always a good indicator on how good the main courses are going to be at a restaurant, so I was excited when I tried the salsa and it was spicy and delicious. As I was craving avocado, I decided to get the burritos California and it was tasty and massive. (I'm sure there's dirty minds making dirty jokes right now) I added some of the salsa to my burrito for extra scrumptiousness. (Now that sounds dirty too). My meal was about $5. That made me even happier about my food. I also drank about 3 cokes but I failed to ask for the bottled coke, and therefore revealed my true colors as a guera. Old school (perhaps La Escuela Viejo?) Mexican fare served quick and easy, I've driven past this place maybe a thousand times and never taken the time to stop in. That all changed when my stomach reminded me I was hungry, and off we headed to try something different. It's no frills here, and my portions were ample and tasty. We just missed the breakfast slot, so I handled some crispy lunch tacos (try the chicken,,,it was pretty terrific). In a sense, I think one of the things that these guys suffer from is being here: there's enough good Mexican food and Tex-Mex to satiate your palate with a nuanced aggregate, and while this was pretty tasty, it probably wouldn't make my top five. Taqueria Arrandinas has taken over yet another closed Pizza Hut - they should just rename themselves Taco Hut and make it easy on us Gringos. I pass this location at least once a week and have been waiting for the "Opening Soon" signs to come down and the "Now Open" signs to come up. Today was the first time I noticed the "Now Open" signs so I made a quick right into the parking lot. I stopped by just after 11AM with no wait and ordered a breakfast taco (egg and potato) and a Pastor (perfectly grilled meat, onions and cilantro) both on tasty house made warm corn tortillas served with a nice and spicy salsa plus a Topo Chico for less than 5 bucks! The menu has tacos, tortas, burritos, soups, combo-plates and specials. I am sure this place will become busy once word is out that they are open. So, check it out before you have to wait in line! Oh, hello traditional Mexican food. Where have you been all of my life? My mom said it best, when no one in there speaks English, you know you are in the right place. 3 tacos for $2.19 + homemade tortillas + breakfast tacos all day = this girl is really happy about how close it is to my place! You might want to take a friend who speaks Spanish because my mom had trouble without me and ended up with the wrong kind of tortilla and ingredients. However, it was still delicious. If you're missing REAL Mexican food, give it a go, it would definitely give my hometown places some competition. read more

Was really hoping this would be my breakfast taco jam but Taquerias Arandinas fell short. The interior of the restaurant is actually pretty nice and the staff is very polite and fast. I got two potato, egg, and bacon on flour and a horchata to-go. The bill was under $5. Got my tacos home and they were very small, which is totally fine, I like small, really good tacos, however, these were not of the small, really good variety. The potatoes were way undercooked and just boiled, not boiled then cooked on the grill, the bacon was over and undercooked at the same time (or was from two different batches of bacon - eewww - yucky bacon, enough reason to never come here again), the eggs weren't seasoned at all, and the tortillas definitely not made in house and not even as good as the ones you get from the HEB tortilleria. I'm from south Texas, just because you but some stuff in a tortilla, doesn't make it a taco. Very strange to go to a taqueria and not get tacos but just stuff in a tortilla. read more

I took my girlfriend here after she had been avoiding going to it for quite some time. The location and building itself is nothing to admire... However, after a quiet & pleasant experience she tells me she feels much differently. They were prompt and brought out chips with 3 types of salsa (2 red 1 green) before we ordered. I had the tres enchiladas and she had a ginormous burrito. We both topped our meals with some Verde concoction (hers a la carte, no issues) and it made both dishes. Very good!! I had some queso before hand as well that was mediocre. The chips it came with were a bit stale. None the less, both main entrees were bomb and next up for us to try is their breakfast which I hear is superb. 20 bucks for all, 2 Tvs playing nonsense-you won't care... This is one of my favorite CHEAP Bfast spots. The food is consistently great. The chips are ok, not my favorite, but they don't serve them with Bfast unless you ask and pay extra. I love Chorizo and Egg plate, I agree with a PP that the beans are not that great. But make a great glue to throw your own tacos together on their homeade corn tortillas. My kids have gotten the pancakes with a side of Bacon and they tear it up! I also like their coffee. It's probably some generic crap, but it always hits the spot and I'm a picky coffee person! If you are eating lunch they have great specials that last til 3pm. Be sure to ask for the Charro Beans or Bean soup, they are kinda hit or miss but MUCH better than the refried ones they serve. They do not serve alcohol, so we have never ate dinner there... All in all my entire family LIKES eating here and it's CHEAP, can't beat that! read more

Even though I went after the "breakfast time," 5 tacos were still under $10. I've never eaten in here, but never been disappointed by the delicious take-out. Whenever we want a late-night snack (referred to as a "merienda" in Mexico), this place has become our neighborhood spot. We can walk there from our house, which would be useful if we wanted to drink a couple of beers and not have to drive - but they don't have a liquor license. Aside from that, the staff there is warm and friendly, and the bright yellow walls and tile floor make me feel like I'm stopping by my aunt's house for a meal. (The fluorescent lighting is a bit unnerving, though.) The TV is always on the local Spanish channel, so you can always catch the latest episode of "Betty la Fea" or "Sabado Gigante." One night, I had a headache and was craving a Coca-Cola. When the waitress brought me a can, I asked if I could have the glass bottled kind instead (because in Mexico they use real sugar instead of corn syrup -- now THAT'S a soft drink). She smiled and got kind of excited, maybe because it was secret code for, "Yes, I'm one of your kind." The salsa there is extremely addicting. By the time I am stuffed with chips and salsa (which are free), I can barely eat half of my sope. (Good breakfast leftover the next day.) Amazingly filling and relatively healthy for a meal under $5 (including drink and tip)! read more

The torta bread was soggy and flavorless, and the milanesa was too thin, sinewy, burnt, oily, and bland. The tacos were dry and bland, and the tortillas were falling apart. The quesadillas were swimming in grease, and - not to be a broken record - flavorless. The nopales were simultaneously wimpy and tough. How does that even happen?! The service was curt and crawling slow. My frank assessment is that there were literally no redeeming qualities for this restaurant on my visit. Maybe it was a bad day. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, enchiladas mole, but I didn't have the 4 star experience I was expecting. The mole, touted as homemade, wasn't thick enough. When I get a homemade mole I expect more density and a deep dark rich flavor. This had potential but probably just needed to simmer and condense for a few more hours. DELISH! The green sauce is my favorite hot sauce here.. so spicy and yet so good. The fajitas are amazing and the beans taste so good. The refried beans do have pork in them, but if that doesnt bother you, then get them. The food is so fresh and they use white meat for everything. In the mornings they have yogurt parfaits, granola and fresh fruit for those that don't want a breakfast taco. You can get your tacos on corn if you want and they make their flour tortillas from scratch. Normally my ticket with my family is about $25.00 (3 people).. that includes three entrees and a tea. The customer service has been good and they haven't messed up my food yet :) . I go there maybe once a week or 3 times every two weeks. So you know i'll be back soon. read more

I've been out of town for Spring Break and my friends and I keep talking about when the next time we'll be able to get our hands on the dishes this place has to offer. Maybe we are just fatties, but anyway, on to the food reviews of what we got: - Free Chips and Salsa: You get 2 salsas. The green one is made from a puree of jalapenos and onions. Really spicy but really good. Did I mention free? - Regular Burrito: $1 more than a taco bell burrito but 2x bigger and the meat is unforgettable. I could not believe the portion and flavor I got for a burrito costing $3.99. The way the ground beef was marinated...OMG - Regular Torta: Not as good as Burrito Factory's but definitely worth the price. Three types of meat with Al Pastor. - Combo Plate #2: A cheap and fulfilling way to try multiple things on the menu. You get a crunchy taco, tamale, enchilada, rice, beans, and.. I forgot.. but it was good. Our group had about 4 more plates but some were duplicates. TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read). Cheap Authentic Mexican Food and Express Fast Service. GO! WARNING: There are multiple Taquerias Arandinas and they are owned by different families so quality will be different. This one is the best we've tried thus far. read more

Located about 20 minutes south of UT campus, Taquerias Arandinas boasts the most authentic Mexican cuisine in the city. And they definitely live up to it. Keep in mind that there a lot of places with the same name, but are all run by different members of the family. This review is for the William Cannon location which is definitely some of the best food I've had. The food is absolutely amazing. Their ground beef (yes ground beef, not even fajita beef) is marinated very well and is full of flavor. Their chicken is tender but moist. My chicken quesadilla was comprised of nothing more than a tortilla, chicken and cheese and was one of the most incredible quesadillas I've ever had. The cheese was melted and gooey, and was served with some sour cream and guacamole. It was also large enough to fill me from half-hungry. A comparabley sized quesadilla would run you $9+ at Taco Cabana. Taquerias Arandinas looks a little run down on the outside, but is lively and bustling inside. If you're in the mood for real Mexcian food, this place is definitely worth driving out to. read more

Mr Smidgens loves Chilaquiles!!!! Arandinas has some of the best tasting more food for your buck chilaquiles in town. I had mine with the verde sauce, a thin butterflied chicken breast, and refried beans with a dollop of crema. Es muy delicioso!!! They brought out the chips y chile (salsa for you gringos...I love you all) Medium and spicy. The chile verde was a head tingling explosion on my tongue!!! They serve breakfast all day long but if you show up before eleven everything is around $2 cheaper per item. Don't get me wrong the prices are low to begin with but they go even lower before 11am. You can't beat that with a stick. I mean you could but what's the point really. The parking is minimal but the service, food, and prices make this one a 5 star experience. read more

Not bad at all! Good breakfast..and I LOVE the fresh squeezed orange juice. They have one of those giant machines you throw whole oranges into. AND a large one is like $2. Unheard of around here for freshly squeezed oj. Today I am under the weather and went in to order some caldo de pollo. It was good, great condiments, but could have been spicier. I added some fresh jalapeños I ordered (or maybe it would have come with it), but even they weren't that spicy. Always friendly staff! Definitely a must if you live in the neighborhood. read more

I was actually pretty hesitant due to the look and familiar name but soon found out that it was in fact a difft. name/spelling of another restaurant. This place is always busy and for good reason, salsa with a kick, cheap good food, and damn good breakfast tacos. It serves much of what you would find at most Mexican restaurants, although ive always been partial to getting my barbacoa and fajita taco dish!! The place is clean with fast service, and def. a good place to just have a good eat and relax. The only downside would be no bar and sometimes they keep it a bit cold but other than that im actually going right now!! read more

Sis had the combo plate with chicken enchilada verde, chicken taquito, and crispy beef taco with rice and beans for $5.99. The chicken was tender and flavorful. Typically the chicken is overcooked and stringy in these dishes, but not the case at Arandinas. I had the Quesadilla al pastor (pork) with a flour tortilla. The pork was equally tender and delicious. Fast friendly service makes this place a no-brainer. read more

This is a very traditional Texas Mexican restaurant but not Tex-Mex. It is Mexican food, just northern Mexico and somewhat bland. The machacado is OK but there was no jalapeño/onion/tomato as is usual in machacado. Tacos were OK. Diet Coke is in cans, and so expensive to refill. Green salsa is bland and contains dairy. Red salsa is somewhat spicy and good. Corn tortillas are very good, in fact we got a dozen to go (for $5). Service is good and very friendly and bilingual. Parking is terrible. Will we go back any time soon? Probably not. There are better places in this area. read more
