We usually avoid going for Mexican in town but gave Taqueria Tachingon a try. They coin themselves as offering authentic street tacos. They're next door to Harvest Deli and Tera V Burger. We dropped in on a Sunday (2:30pm). It was busy with people grabbing takeout. The inside is cramped and hot but there's two small tables outside on the sidewalk. Menu consists of soup, enchiladas, snacks, classics, tacos, burritos and burrito bowls. - Jamaica ($4.50) - hibiscus flavour was light. Didn't quench my thirst. - Green enchiladas ($16.00) - we opted for the chorizo. The three enchiladas were decent but the green sauce was lacking substance and heat. - Tacos - tried the lengua ($4.25), pork belly ($3.85) and cochinita pibil ($4.25). The pork belly was the best of the three. Lengua was the most disappointing beef tongue we've eaten; crispy and oversalted. The roasted pork had plenty of pickled red onion but the meat was dry. TT didn't satisfy our Mexican cravings. 2.5 stars. read more

Finally stopped in to get some lunch to go. Decent menu with sandwiches, burritos, tacos etc, seems legit with enough to satisfy the non authentic tastes as well. Prices were ok - $18 for a chicken burrito. Little bit slow/busy but it's not Taco Bell. Burrito came with a generous helping of what seems like homemade chips (picture is maybe half of them). Decent flavour but not amazing to me. Tiny chicken bone - tells me they likely make their own from scratch but it's a huge hazard for choking (see magnified picture). One line review: Mexican food in Vancouver is... hard. We have very much enjoyed living in Vancouver the last 3+ years, but one thing it is missing (in our opinion) is good, inexpensive Mexican food. We keep looking, but we are not finding. Sometimes, I swear it off and try to tell myself to stick with other kinds of food. But inevitably, we try again. We came to Tachingon with an open mind -- and an open wallet. We ordered one each of all of the meat-filled tacos and took them to go: Beef fajita Chicken mole Lengua Chicken birria Al pastor Carnitas Chorizo Pork belly Cochinita pibil Gobernador Pescado They ranged from good to average in terms of flavour. None of them were very spicy, which some of you may prefer but which was disappointing for us. They also didn't overwhelm us with salsa -- three smallish containers for all of those tacos. This was neither a cheap nor super abundant dinner. We were over $50 (including a tip -- a little 'thank you' for being open during the pandemic), and two of us ate ALL of that. There were literally no leftovers. So not super high on the value scale. Service was decent though not memorable. We parked for free nearby, but there is metered parking there on Broadway. Bottom line: We're going to avoid Mexican food in Vancouver -- until we the next time we try again. But when we do, it won't likely be here. read more

Such good tacos! We've been there twice and both times were amazing. The salsa is incredible: spicy but still very flavourful and smoky. We could not get enough of the tacos. It is so reasonably priced and the nicest guy who makes it for you. The place is small, doesn't having too much seating but it's perfect for a quick meal for two. Don't miss this spot. read more

I tried green chicken enchiladas. Usually the chicken of the authentic enchiladas isn't supposed to be seasoned or cooked in sauce. I was surprised to find the chicken was cooked in red salsa which isn't exactly the most authentic way you get enchiladas in Mexico. The horchata was amazing. The personnel is friendly, good service and the location is very small and warm just like things are in Mexico. There's a nice sitting area outside I wish they had an extra table or two. With more chair as it's too hot inside to eat in the summer time. I'm willing to come back an try more dishes next time. read more

Glade to have found this spot by accident. Probably the best taco's on the west end for less than $5 a piece. The owner, Ulysses, will hook you up with authentic Mexican food! I've only had the taco's at this point, but they were spot on! The spots small with a few quick bar seats available, so either come early or expect to use the take out window that's on the street. Other than that, parking will be on the street, and yes they also do takeout! read more

Cold, microwaved, too many staff physically touching the same item while ignoring and chatting to each other. (Usually doesn't bother me, but this was a bit much). Staff was rude, everything came out of the fridge in Tupperware containers and then microwaved and still cold. Was a great spot.....WAS. Def no more. Double thumbs down, highly don't recommend. Authentic Mexican food with a home-made flair. Very friendly staff. They have some seating although you need to sit beside the person(s). A varied menu to choose from so lots of choices available. Prices are competitive. My friend had the tacos and were delicious. I had a torta and it was very tasty and a great portion size. I had tried Taqueria Tachingon earlier in the year and had to drag my boyfriend back to try the cochinita. I'm telling you these tacos taste extremely authentic- by far the best in Vancouver. The Al Pastor and shrimp were also exquisite. My partner really enjoyed the lengua (I didn't get to try it because it was gone too fast!). This place is really special and seems to have access to some magic that a lot of local places seem to miss out. The staff are also super kindly. You just gotta try it! I was walking by this hole in the wall when the smell from the grills caught by attention. I walked in and found this narrow and small hidden jem. They only have bar style seats along the wall with no table. If the restaurant were busier i would have felt uncomfortable eating there(but it wasn't busy). I ordered 3 tacos and all of them were really good! The habanero sauce was bomb! I would definitely go back to try some more dishes on the menu next time. read more

Ordered as take out, tortilla soup, tostada and a churro. Was overcharged on the tostada. They caught this and gave me another. Got home and all I had was two tostadas and a churro. Called and asked about what to do and the gentleman had no solutions. 33.99 for two tostadas and a churro. The tostadas were nothing special and the churro was undercooked. You decide. read more

The food was tasty but I don't think I can go back, because of the price and portion. I had a burrito bowl for 14.75 plus tax and I would have felt comfortable paying about 8 dollars or 10 since it's Vancouver. The size was depressingly small. Double the size would have got me close to full maybe. And there was very little meat. This didn't feel like a good purchase. Sorry. Hate to complain, but it felt bad paying that. read more

Amazing authentic Mexican tasty tacos I ordered 2 pork belly tacos ended up going back in for another just couldn't get enough. Service was efficient and all the employees were nice and good at their job. The reason I give it 4/5 stars (although I think more like 4.5/5 is more accurate) was because of 3 things that could be improved for a 6 star rating 1. Seating, there were not a lot of tables outside but the area the restaurant owns is very small so I understand. 2. Drink selection, there were not a lot of options for beverages they had Jarritos Mexican soda but only 3 of the many flavours. 3. Coloured tortilla chips, I ordered tortilla chips and picco de gallo as a side dish which for the most part was great the salsa was amazing and authentic however it came with multi colour tortilla chips which I always find have some bad taste because of the food colouring. However overall a great restaurant that I recommend to anyone who likes tacos. food and service are both great read more
