My husband and I, along with three other couples, recently met at Tia Juanita's Fish Camp for a…read morebirthday celebration on a packed Saturday night. They offer an extensive menu, and the food was excellent. Our table enjoyed a wide variety of dishes, but here's what I personally tried: Dip Sampler with Queso Hush Puppies with Jalapeño Butter Boudin Balls Seafood Enchiladas Tia's Punch I would happily reorder every one of them on a return visit. Others in our group ordered chargrilled oysters, raw oysters, boiled crawfish, fried crawfish, a Po'Boy, quesadillas, and shrimp tacos. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, which tells me you really can't go wrong no matter what you choose. I also spotted several other items I'd love to try next time. Our server was personable and worked hard to keep up with the busy crowd. The live music added to the fun, lively atmosphere and made the evening even more enjoyable. So why not five stars? Although I made a 6:30 reservation, we weren't seated until 7:45. If a reservation isn't going to be honored close to the scheduled time, it's frustrating. That said, I would gladly return -- but next time, I'll either go earlier or later and won't rely on a reservation time being strictly honored.

The shrimp was very very very and too salty, quesadillas were too greasy too!!!…read moreWaiter was very short on conversation when I try to ask about food on menu, forgot to bring silverware, rcvd food and asked her for utensils to eat with and made a lil smirk on her face. Tried to get her attention several times to tell her about the shrimp as she was passing by the table , she kept walking, so I asked another waiter to send a mgr to table. Nice social environment

A restaurant with good food is amazing. A restaurant with…read moregood food AND great service keeps customers coming back. We decided to try Red Herring for our anniversary dinner. Experience from beginning to end was wonderful. Our waiter, Pierce from TN, absolutely put the cherry on top of this experience. Pierce 10/10 for recommending phenomenal dishes and the best hospitality.

We had a 6:45 reservation and we arrived an hour early to have a drink in the bar and the hostess told us that she would let us know if a table in the bar became available before our reservation time. I checked with her once because we noticed a few tables had been empty the entire hour we were there and she said that she still did not have anything available because they were reserved for reservations. No one ever showed up and she ended up seating us at one of the tables that had been empty the entire time and she seated us 10 minutes after our reservation time! The food was OK but the portion size for the price was not good. They were out of iced tea and potatoes by 7 o'clock. I ended up sending my gnocchi back because it was absolutely terrible. My husband ordered a martini and was charged 50 cents for an extra olive and, ironically, he only received one olive on the toothpick. The service was terrible and the bartender was very unfriendly, and we would never go back!

It comes with catfish but they let you choose your fish if you want something different! It comes with 2 sides so I got fries and fried okra. The fried okra was the star of that show for me! Also, I switched out the catfish for Blue Whiting. Everything was well seasoned and delish. My husband ordered the Blue Whiting platter which was 2 whiting filets and a side. He considered getting the etouffee so while we ate she brought out a small taste of it for us to sample for next time. (And there will be a next time!) The girl at the counter (owner??) is SO STINKIN NICE! My gosh, talk about great with customers! (Cutie with fun glasses.) It's about an hours drive from where we live but we're through Waco pretty regularly so we're looking forward to our next stop at Friday's. We'll try to get by on a Friday so we can try some of their GUMBO!

My wife had the same catfish but with green beans and fried okra. The service was cheerful, upbeat and pretty quick. Ambience was authentic cajun/ local charm. This place is mostly about the food. It is not shiny and new- it is warm and cozy with serious food. If you like catfish give them a try.

Ever since leaving and moving to Austin area, I've longed for my gumbo, crawfish and even down home red beans and rice. Well, until now!! We just randomly decided on seafood while in Waco, and lemme tell yall. This place will not disappoint!! I had a bowl of probably the top 10 best I've ever had!! (Sorry mom), and also the red beans and ohhhh my lawd!!!! The atmosphere when you walked in let you know this was gonna be a good meal. The decor, and even almost entire wall with prices and the daily specials written on it. The waitress tried to tell us about it, and I'm pretty sure the wife was paying attention, but I already had my stomach setting up to receive gumbo. Multiple waitstaff stopped by to check on us throughout the meal, and all were very friendly! Serving sizes to make you loosen a belt notch to be able to breathe!! Wife had the fish and chips and couldn't eat the fries! That all said, I also found out that gumbo and beans and rice were made from scratch DAILY, and not that prepared stuff you get at some places!! Stop and be ready to Laissez les bons temps rouler!!

The red fish was okay. I felt the entree was plated nicely and overall wasn't bad. I felt the restaurant was clean which is definitely a good sign for a restaurant .
