Torta
Jessi D.

Food was good. Gordita was a bit oily but eh non a few napkins can't fix. I will say they reminded me of a "popular" gordita restaurant not far from there. Well when they used to make em this way. You can't go wrong with a torta. Only problem I had and I'm sure it's something they can fix but cook the meat a bit more to get a nice char on it. The agua wasn't overly sweet but it wasn't lacking flavor either. The salsa umm yeah.. the green one I lit out the whole cup in half of my torta and I couldn't even tell it had salsa. I'm a red salsa type and I wish it was better. Would I come back? Yeah. Recommend it? Sure. For $21 I think I got a good amount of food. I mean beats going for yet again a reg plain ole burger.

Very homie feeling! Warm and comfortable seating area and OMG bakery next door and it's connected to restaurant!' Very welcoming attitude, courteous lady who took our order and even at register. We ordered Tampiqueña and flautas (beef) and horchata, which was so delicious and creamy!! The salsa and chips were fresh!salsa has a tangy savory and spice to it but so delicious. Chips are crunchy and good taste! Now the tampiqueña meat was perfect!! Tender, not over cooked, not dry and savory!!! The rice needed more love, color too light and not much seasoning! But ok.. The flautas were crunchy and meaty!! Full of beef!! Moist and savory, not stingy on the meat!' Same for the rice, not a fan.. The bread next door OMG smelled so good and had so much variety! Not overpriced and bread was soft and delicious

Concha breakfast sandwich

Muy bueno! I had breakfast at Taqueria Del Sol. For my breakfast, I ordered the concha breakfast sandwich. It isn't on the menu, but you have to ask for this. The sandwich was probably one of the best breakfast sandwiches that I've had in ages. The sweet concha contrasts with the ham, cheese, and bacon -- it all goes together perfectly. Yes, I was full fast - but I decided that I would power through. I didn't want to waste a single bite of this paradise. The place is crowded - the place is loud - the place is worth it! This place is OG Houston. If you're from HTown and you haven't been, then you haven't earned your stripes. Taqueria Del Sol is a must!

I wish I would've known about this place sooner!! I came here specifically for the bakery and had a very pleasant experience. **Please be mindful that the staff didn't speak fluent English, so I used my little knowledge of Spanish to better communicate with them. If you're not comfortable with this, I suggest you go elsewhere. When you first walk in, you'll see a shelving unit that has bread on top, a shelf filled with metal trays and a bunch of metal tongs. Grab a pair of tongs and a metal tray and use these to grab which pastries you want. Once you're done making your selections, you'll take your tray to the counter where they will bag everything up and then collect payment. When I first walked in I was very confused as to what do, but thankfully the employee working noticed and asked "necesita ayuda?" Then walked me through everything when I responded "sí, por favor". She was very kind and helpful and definitely appreciated my attempts at speaking Spanish to her. The prices here are so reasonable!! I literally spent $24 total on the 20 different things I got (I was picking up a bunch of goodies to take to family in Dallas and was choosing them based on photos sent so I'm not 100% sure what all I walked away with). Also, the employee saw me reaching for a conchas from the bakery display case and told me to get a fresh one from the shelf instead. I ate it immediately after getting into my car and it was still warm!!! And oh so delicious! I will DEFINITELY be back!

Quesadillas with fajita

The best chips & salsa combo, steady doing it for more than 30 yrs. Definitely a staple in the SE side of town. Great service, fabulous food, staff accommodates it all. Anything on menu you can't go wrong. Aguas Fresca as well and the have soup as well. Don't forget the bakery next door- Sweet bread! The ambience and decor is traditional with a little jukebox playing. You will return, guaranteed!

Fajita quesadillas. The meat is tender. The tortillas are fresh!

This is one of my original favorite got to places when I am on the south side or up for a long drive. This is the best Tex-Mex place where you will find some of the best cheese enchiladas. When it comes to their chips and salsa, the salsa is served warm and I literally can just drink it. We always have to get a refill because I go through it like a drink. A Limonada is a must order drink. It is always made fresh not a fountain drink lemonade. Even better there is a bakery next-door to get all your favorite pan dulce. You must try everything at least once or at least do not go home without sweet bread. There are some weekends where they actually have little vendors out front to make it feel like you're at a vendor market in little mexico.

Del Sol Bowl

My family and Taqueria Del Sol go waaaay back. TDS catered my grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary 30+ years ago, one of my sister's quince, and we pop in from time to time when in the area. It's been a while, so after a visit to the Houston Botanic Garden with mi madre, we swung by TDS for some eats. I got the Del Sol Bowl complete with chicken fajita and seasoned veggies over lettuce. The veggies were great! The portion was hefty. The chicken was just overcooked and very, very dry. My mom ordered the chile relleno that didn't have much batter. It was more of a chile covered in soggy batter that was falling off. Major disappointment. Service was prompt, the salsas were hot, and the agua de jamaica was good. I'll go back but only to revisit the breakfast tacos.

Nopales tacos and poblano queso tacos. Great vegetarian options.

It's just the best. The service is excellent. The place is always packed with a crowd of families, friend groups, etc. who are very open and welcoming non-Mexicans like myself. My waitresses are always super friendly and helpful. I have dietary restrictions and the staff handles them well. Vegetarians: the nopales (cactus) tacos & the poblano and cheese tacos bring me to tears when I've been away from Houston too long and finally get to be around quality Mexican food. The horchata is simple and tasty. The food is cheap, the chips are fresh (and free), the salsa is spicey (and free), and *chef's kiss*. The atmosphere: the place is always busy & lively. The murals and general vibes showcase both indigenous and newer aspects of Mexican culture with a light blend of Houston culture. There's a panderia (bakery) attached to this place and the restaurant itself also sells lucas (tamarind candy) and other classic packaged snacks if you end up wanting a lil something for the drive home.

Torta de asada y taco de asada

Yes, food is really good. Get the torta extra toasted with extra sour cream. Or the small quesadillas de trompo. Our kids are 4th generation clients. I remember my grandpa having photos of him coming. My parents when they dated and now our kids come. Do they some have bad days, yeah, can waiters be a bit off due to huge amount of clients, yeah. I mean there's not a perfect restaurant. But they do really good. If there is wait time, that ought to tell you it's really good. People don't wait in line for trash business.

Javis J.

SERVICE SERVICE SERVICE, not one not two, but 4 different staff checked on my party of Six as we were patronizing the restaurant. The salasa has some kick to it and the chips are nice and warm when they arrive at your table. The drinks are huge, luckily it's not a lot of dead time in between getting drinks, ordering, and kitchen to plate on the table. There is additional parking in the back, if you are driving by and think it's only a small piece of parking you will miss out on this gem, you can't miss the gigantic yellow building full of tasty goodness.

Food is decent, not really my cup of tea. Their flour tortillas are tiny. Their fajitas are kind of chewy. It's okay.

Definitely a taste of home outside of San Diego and Tijuana. Finding authentic TJ flavor in Texas (not Tex-Mex) was a welcome surprise! Our carne asada was grilled al carbón and you could taste the char! Juicy carne full of flavor, thin but strong and tasty tortillas (they really held everything together well), perfect chunky guac (not too fancy or full of fillers--IYKYK), and a variety of delicious salsas and hot sauces! An added bonus was the complimentary chicharrones! I'll take those over tortilla chips any day! The dining room isn't very big, but it's clean and has good a/c....there's an outdoor patio as well. Service was fast and friendly. Tacos and burritos were hefty and full of flavor. Ample parking. So glad that my family from San Diego (who I know get real Mexican taco shop cravings) can get a taste of home right in their Houston backyard!

Limited indoor seating, and since it gets busy we usually order to go. When I did dine in it was nice experience, feels authentic like eating a local spot in Mexico. You have the Mexican cokes available, the style of tacos has a big scoop of guac which makes them a bit unique compared to other spots that charge extra for guac. Their tacos are big too! Not the mini small taco tortillas you get in a food truck. These are big tacos so getting 2 is enough for me. I've tried their Asado tacos and their quesadillas and their quesabirrias all 10/10.

It was a Hispanic male. The manager you chose to represent your brand but could not represent it. I try to support local businesses but this type of service is uncalled for. I called you guys, no answer and the run around about the manager's name at this location. Very rude and called the cops!! Please save your money. It's so many restaurants around don't go here unless they change the management. I still would be sus tho. They are tucked in the back so word of mouth is really all they got. There's even a security guard on site, which only adds to the impression that this place is fire. So when I happened to drive by on a 100-degree afternoon and found no line, I took it as a sign to finally give it a try. The small parking lot adjacent to the truck was nearly empty, except for a few other patrons who probably had the same idea. Ordering was simple and to the point. The menu keeps things straightforward: a selection of meats served as tacos or plates with a handful of sides. I ordered two barbacoa tacos with salsa verde. Less than two minutes after placing my order, they were in my hands. Fast service on a scorching day is always appreciated. With no seating available, I retreated to the comfort of my car to eat. Based on the amount of grease packed into these tacos, I would recommend doing the same. Eating them while standing could end with your shirt becoming an unintended side dish. One thing to note: don't count on a generous napkin supply. I realized after returning to my car that none were included. Consider keeping a few emergency fast-food napkins in your glove compartment. Those leftover Taco Bell napkins may finally fulfill their destiny. The barbacoa was flavorful, the salsa verde complemented it well, and overall, the tacos were overall tasty. That said, I left somewhat underwhelmed considering the crowds I routinely see gathered here during lunch and dinner hours. Perhaps I'm missing the standout item that keeps customers lining up daily. Even so, if you happen to have cash in your pocket and find yourself craving authentic tacos, this truck is certainly worth a stop.
