This is a place I would come again. Recommend it, specially if you are like me, familiar with northen Mexican tacos. I lived in Monterrey and they definitely hit the spot! We ordered TRIPA, bistec, trompo and Tlaquepaque... ALL delicious! I was mad I couldn't eat much more lol The tortillas were slightly oiled and crisped, the pastor was tender, juicy and full of flavor. Now, the tripas were INCREDIBLE!! Soooo well cooked and crisped up to a crunch level where it was impossible to stop eating. Service was FAST and pretty good. Ambiance was very chill , music, and the aguas frescas were SPOT ON! Absolutely love this authentic Mexican restaurant spot in SE Houston. Living closer to Friendwood I frequent the usual TexMex spots so it's nice to find an authentic taqueria not to far from me on I45 close to Hobby airport. This fast/casual restaurant is in a small unassuming plaza right off the highway and is open late. Their standard tacos,burritos, gringas, are all excellent with usual meat choices however my recommendation are their taco piratas which is in a fried flour tortilla with cheese and meat. Their spicy salsa and salsa Verde are also excellent. The side of potatoes is interesting and works well with the meal. Really worth a visit for a quick dinner or late night meal. read more

Disappointing Experience - Poor Customer Service We stopped by Tacos Tec today and placed our order. About 15 minutes in, the waitress brought our drinks, salsa, and charro beans, so we assumed our tacos would be out soon. However, we waited patiently for another 30 minutes with no food. Meanwhile, we saw a large order served to a customer who arrived after us. At this point, we started getting frustrated. Then, we noticed the waitress speaking to a man who appeared to be the manager. Moments later, the manager loudly asked us what we had ordered and created a new ticket--clearly, they had forgotten our order. Mistakes happen, but what bothered us most was how they handled it. No apology, no attempt to make it right--nothing. The waitress and manager ignored the issue, offering no compensation or goodwill (even something as simple as a drink or a small discount). For me, that's unacceptable. The food was okay, but the customer service was terrible. I ordered their Bistec Tacos togo and they were fantastic in every way. These steak tacos were very delicious, well seasoned, not too salty, juicy and had moist tasty corn tortillas to hold the rest. These tacos are the best tacos I have had and are very authentic too. According to some Mexicans I have met and a couple at my mom's workplace, these are closest to Monterrey style. I was very pleased with the food this time and last time when I got the chicken quesadilla and chicken flautas on my last visit, which was also my first time ever trying Tacos Tec. Along with the delicious food here, their prices, portion sizes and late hours of operation are great as well. I am also a huge chicken enchilada fan and want to try their chicken enchiladas on my next visit. I have never been to Monterrey, but having already tried several Mexican cafes in Houston over the years, I can see how these stand out and are the real deal like over there. Some places aren't as accurate, prepared or as good, but this place makes awesome Mexican food. The only places for tacos I have really really liked down here are Tacos Tec, Krave Tacos and a taco truck on Telephone Rd I had gone to 9-10 years ago. I still say Tacos Tec is my favorite of the three and a must try for steak tacos, chicken quesadillas and flautas. I still need to try their chicken enchiladas and shrimp tacos in the future. I also love the spicy green and red cream sauces, cilantro and roasted potatoes that come with the orders here. The Mexican food is really made with love at this establishment. read more

Probably my favorite place to get Mexican food in Houston. It's so authentic that it's even cash only!! Their tacos are a bit pricey & small (although that's how small real tacos are), but they're delicious. I recommend their tacos al pastor. Their tortas are delicious as well, plenty toppings, plenty of meat, good fresh bun. Their green sauce is probably the best green sauce I've ever had. The location is kind of inconvenient for me as I don't live in the area, but it's worth the drive. My only ripe is the place doesn't look TOO clean & they mostly only speak spanish, which isn't an issue for me but it can be for non spanish speakers. Quick story: one time I went and there were a few people fighting outside, some girl even had a baby in her arms and was throwing hands, LOL!!!! Just thinking about that place is currently make my mouth water as I write about it. I could taste the difference in taste and texture compared to a Mexican taco from CA. The way the grease was absored into the tortilla, the cheese on the meat, the generous amount of onion and other veggies was defintely a mouth orgasm waiting to happen. The al pastor had a different (dare I say better) taste than what I'm normally used to. I will definitely come back here when I visit Texas again. The only thing stopping me from eating more than 5 tacos this day was that I was looking to try out more eateries during my stay in town. And also because I'm a fatass. I can't believe I haven't left a review for this place yet but it's our favorite taco spot (we haven't found any top contenders as of yet compared to this place). They only take cash and it's not in a nice area, persay but totally safe. They speak (mostly) Spanish when ordering but will understand some English. My husband and I get their trompo tacos on flour tortilla which comes with a green and red sauce I believe. The meat is packed with flavor- it leaves you wanting more! The salsas they bring out are very tasty. The red one is the spicy one but the green is my favorite.
