Ordered Taqueria Cocoyoc for delivery when I was craving some Mexican. While I was browsing for restaurants, I noticed so many bougie Mexican places in the area charging ridiculous amounts for meager servings.. Taqueria Cocoyoc, thankfully, is an exception! Prices are reasonable and serving sizes are more than sufficient. We ordered the bistec quesadilla, al pastor nachos, and carnitas burrito. Everything was filling and tasty! My quesadilla came stuffed with meat, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and sour cream. It's not traditional but it's delicious! Ate everything with a fork and knife because it's messy but so worth the mess. My partner enjoyed the burrito and expressed similar feelings. The nachos were good too, probably a little better at the restaurant though (but of course nachos are always a delivery risk). The al pastor meat had a nice fruity tang from the pineapple. There is another similar restaurant in the area that I order from occasionally but they often run late or forget items. The prices at Cocoyoc are about 20-30% more than you would pay for similar foods in the area of the same quality. But, customers like to come here for their friendly dine-in experience. The interior decor is festive and elevates your mood, which provides a sweet escape from the sharp contrast of Wycoff Avenue. It is a good lunch place and you will see many Wycoff Hospital staff dining in at this time. The food is fairly authentic, they even have grilled cactus. I like to keep the chorizo abundant, and tend to favor their tostadas. The tostadas are $3 each here, $2 anywhere else on the same street. However, they accept credit cards and most other places do not. When ordering full entrees, the portions are enough for two people and they do not skimp on the meat portions. This is mainly a steak/beef place, so you might want to order what they do best. I come here for atmosphere, location, or the convenience of delivery and late hours. We have had problems getting delivery here quickly because they confused Stanhope with Stockholm. read more

In a neighborhood blessed with a morbid obesity-inducing number of FUCKING OUTSTANDING Mexican type spots, Cocoyoc is the goddamn star. I know my man is a little weirded out by its overwhelming sweetness, but in my mind (and heart)(and STOMACH), the molé sauce here is the gold standard. This is the molé sauce that makes other sauces feel inadequate and plain, but this molé is so amazing that even if other sauces were like, "hey what the eff, molé, who you think you are?" this molé would smile and offer to teach them how to be awesome and then they'd all be friends. But I digress. There is, indeed, an outstanding array of Mexican type food options in the area, but if you told me I could only eat food from one of these options because the zombies were coming or something, I'd be the first person standing outside Cocoyoc with a cricket bat and a chainsaw (ok maybe just a hand saw), ready to defend their glorious enchiladas from the undead hordes or whatever. Just saying. OH PS: this isn't a fancy spot (unless you're really impressed by plastic forks or plastic forks are something you're hoarding like gold bullion), but the service is goddamn outstanding and so is the food. I really love this place. It's comfort food. One of those hidden gems. Whenever I'm the the ridge-wood neighborhood this is my spot to eat mexican food. I recommend the huaraches & horchata. I used to order the enchilada barbacoa burrito all the time. But my new faves have been the soups. Each one is soooo good! The consommé de chivo is heaven in a bowl. But it arrive to us we started eating it and to our dismay we found that the food was horribly spicy. It was to the point that we could not even finish the meal because it was so hot and we couldn't even taste the flavors of the food. So we call the store to figure out what was going on in the woman already was speaking to us with an attitude and made it seem like we purposely ordered spicy food when we did it. She was only trying to give a refund on the shrimp but my burrito had one bite and I wasn't going to eat it so I was wondering where was the customer service in that? Cocoyoc is by far my favorite Mexican place in Bushwick. My boyfriend and I can be found here a couple times a month. While Los Hermanos and El Fogon are great for certain times Cocoyoc is consistently good. Their menu is huge and I've been here enough to sample quite a bit. The barbacoa (goat) tacos are stellar. I had never had goat before coming here and they sold me. Tender, a little fatty and perfectly mixed with cilantro and onions. Their cecina (salted beef) is the best I've had in the neighborhood. I recently ordered their pozole which knocked my socks off. For $7 I got a huge bowl of soup with hominy, pork in a delicious chile verde broth + a tostada! Definitely recommend it. Their jukebox is pretty rad and we've discovered some pretty good songs on it (Grupo Ju Juy!) and the ambience is fine for what it is. The only complaint is that everything is served on styrofoam plates and cups. Small kitchen though and no dishwasher I guess. Highly recommended for quality Mexican food in Bushwick. read more

Best friggin' tacos and tostadas I've ever had the pleasure of consuming. Can't say much on the other items on the menu since I get tacos and tostadas 99% of the time. I tried the burrito once; it was good, but I didn't like the rice inside the burrito. Just a personal preference. Anyway, back to the tacos. Holy guacamole! Amazing.The beef is cooked to perfection. They do not skimp on the meat. Bless the artist who put these beautiful, unbelievably delicious tacos together. The lettuce, tomatos, cheese and sour cream are always very fresh. And the tortillas! Perfectly warm, always. Well worth the $2.50. Same for the tostadas. The tortilla had the right amount of crunchiness and a generous serving of your preferred meat. The waitresses at this tiny establishment are speedy, efficient, and very nice. The food comes out quickly, even when the cooks look quite busy preparing take out orders. My only complaint is that there tend to be leery older men. I normally go with my Mexican-at-heart Romanian (female) friend, and we're constantly oogled at. Granted, many just wish us a good day and carry on with their business, but I would like to enjoy my tacos and Corona without being stared at like some monkey at the zoo. So you could be sitting there for 30 mins with nothing in your table or mouth. Then suddenly everything arrives at the same time..Including your beers. Then you want to leave because you don't want to wait another 30 mins for a beer. Great for eat and go. TIP: don't order everything at once.. Ask for your beverages first.. Then.. I'm really confused about the 4 and 5 star reviews for this place. I gave it 1 star because it wasn't possible to give zero. I went on a Friday night and expected there might be a wait. However we were seated immediately and everyone else in the restaurant already had food so thought we would be ok. The waitress took our food order and never returned for over an hour. After we got her attention she brought over one of our party's orders and let us know they didn't have the ingredient to make the other dishes. It took her over an hour to let us know they didn't have the food we ordered, and she gave absolutely no apologies whatsoever. Please don't waste your time. My friend suggested this place. One word: yum. For now this will be my new favorite Mexican restaurant. I ordered the cheese enchilada with the green sauce. Not only was it tasty comfort food but the green sauce cleared my sinuses. My two other friends ordered similar dishes, one was a chicken dish, forgot what the other was. There's also vegetarian options so no worries. It's not far from Wycoff hospital. So if you're pissed off about the shitty emergency room, perhaps this place will cheer you up. My only complaint was that you can't good cellphone reception here. Not that you need to be on the phone 24-7. It's actually bad manners to have your nose all up in your iPhone.
