I suppose if you're a local, TAPS is about as good as it gets. But if you have dined in major cities around the world, this is about an equivalent to cafeteria food. This place aims for style with zero substance. I got the Lex Vegas to start which wasn't as full as it should have been. The flavor was pretty good, however. My husband got the burger which was quite literally the ones that you buy in the frozen section of the grocery store and they added some pimento cheese to it; no lettuce, tomato, onion....nothing. A bunch of pickles and pimento cheese....with hard and charred shoe string fries. Wow. I had the Cobb salad with chicken and it was crazy plain. The chicken wasn't marinated or anything. $18 for chopped romaine and a hard boiled egg. Extremely overpriced. Waters weren't filled even once past getting them initially. Service was meh. Would never return and never recommend.

Great food and attentive service! I'm gluten free and there were many options to choose from. Cozy vibe inside and the cocktails looked super good too!

10/10 ambiance on their dog friendly patio. We absolutely loved their dinner selection and alcohol free cocktail options in addition to a full menu of uniquely Virginia themed drinks. The ceaser with salmon was both an amazing deal as well as flavorful and filling. I recommend the chicken and waffles as well which were too good to wait for a photo! We will be stopping by here on future trips to town.

Located in a cute little downtown area. It's street parking in front of the restaurant. Taps is clean and welcoming. The food came out decently fast! I got the Power Bowl, which was amazing! However, I must say the Taps Burger that the rest of my crew got looked so delicious! They are generous with the amount of fries. The grilled cheese from the kids menu is huge. Our waitress was very kind and service was great. Great place for food, and prices are decent.

I had a taps burger, my beautiful date (the wife in case you're wondering) for the evening had fish tacos, and we shared fried oysters and a charcuterie board. Very reasonable prices, attentive service, and literally downstairs from our room for the night??? We had a great experience topped with live music on their beautiful patio with the most perfect weather of the summer! If in Lexington you have to check this place out.

We stopped here after visiting Natural Bridge and the Caverns. The place has great ambience and very friendly staff. The menu is small but well thought out. All the menu items were elevated classics with an interesting twist. The burger was fantastic. It was missing the listed bread and butter pickles but they weren't missed much. The chicken and waffles had several nice twists that elevated a Southern classic. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and very very friendly. If you are in Lexington or the surrounding area, stop in for a good meal and a signature cocktail. Enjoy!

Fish and chips with sweet potato fries. Highly recommend

Burgers were great. While I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the service was a little slow.

And that is precisely what I discovered when I visited Top Dawgs Pub & Deli for the very first time this late afternoon for a late lunch and early dinner. This casual family-owned and operated American restaurant for over 12 years is located in the Roanoke/Botetourt County area and is known for its pub fare like hot dogs, burgers, and wings, with a large selection of craft beers and Coke products. When I arrived, I immediately noticed this family-oriented restaurant's community-focus. There were signs up of Family Meal Box, Taco Tuesday Family Pack, Karaoke Every Other Saturday, and Sunday Funday. There were couples, young and older dining there, as well as families. It's dog-themed decor was very unique, with dogs pictures all around the walls. It had seating areas with high tables and chairs, low tables and chairs, and chairs at the bar counter. The large screen high definition TVs were set at an appropriate distance so one could conveniently watch a game while dining there and having some beers. As soon as I entered, a young lady in the back asked me to seat at the table of my choice, and then she came down to bring me a menu and take my drink order. Even though they had an extensive selection of beers, since I was driving, I opted for an iced-cold Coke. To dine I started out with a Bam Bam Shrimp appetizer. The shrimps weren't Jumbo as described in the menu, but tasted delicious with the bam bam sauce. And to dine I ordered a Cowboy Burger that came with in-house made potato chips that were out-of-this-world and a Cheezy Dawg. The burger came in a fresh, soft bun and the patty was juicy and cooked to perfection, although the bacon inside was not crispy and I couldn't see the onion ring inside, it tasted good with the cheddar cheese and BBQ sauce. The home-cut potato chips were just amazing. Best I've ever had. And the hot dog was an all beef quarter pound jumbo hot dog, split in the center and had chili, cheese, onions, and mustard, also in a fresh hot dog bun, and I added some ketchup as well. My server Tammie made sure to refill my drink without me having to mention it to her. For dessert I had their Fried Oreo Cookies and they tasted amazingly delicious. The best I've ever had. They were about 5 or 6 fresh Oreo cookies dipped in a light batter and fried mildly, then sprinkled with sweet powder sugar. They were so good and I was so full that I took 3 of them home with me to have as a snack later on. To pay, my server brought me a convenient little machine, where I paid with one of my credit cards, including my tip, Overall it was an extraordinary, relaxing dining experience and I highly recommend this restaurant when you want to have a truly enjoyable American meal.

Well thank goodness I finally decided to nip in to 3rd Generations Grill last evening for a hot meal and a cold beer after a long day. I was quite happy with the experience. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but the dining room is large, open, and features a nice bar at the back with a decent selection of draft beer (sadly no dark options for the porter- and brown ale-loving crowd) and sundry spirits. The walls are plastered with rock & roll posters (they get extra credit for the Ziggy Stardust poster on the left side of the room as you enter) and the space is clean and well lit without being antiseptic and blazing. I think with a larger crowd (it was a bit sparse on my visit) the room could be a bit loud, so if quiet is your thing maybe plan for a low traffic time. After negotiating a workaround for the QR code-based online menu (I deduct a full star if that's my only option for ordering because I think it's poor service), I ordered the Generator burger from my very friendly, helpful, and service-forward bartender. What's great is I told him what I was looking for and he competently guided me to one of the best burgers I've had in a while. Double smashed patty, double bacon, cheese, onion. I added lettuce and tomato because I want to dupe myself into believing I had a vegetable that evening. Comes with side of their hand-cut fries and is a hearty portion of well prepared food. When I say this is a two-handed-eat-over-the-plate-like-a-caveman burger, that's exactly what it is. Thing is a monster of beautiful beef and bacon and cheese (sorry vegans, try again). Oh, and the food came out in good time--not fast food, but good food fast. I have a minor quibble with the fries which, while hand cut and nicely seasoned, were a bit under and kinda soggy. Not inedible, but could be better. I think if they blanched the fries before the final cook they'd achieve a crispier outside with that nice cushy potato centre you want in a French fry. But that's the only quibble. Service: six stars Food: four stars Ambiance: four stars Value: five stars I'll be going back again, for sure. No photos this time because I am a pig man and I tend to eat half my plate before my brain says, "hey! Yelp review inbound!"

This isn't a "greasy spoon" with a boring, basic menu, rather Jenny (the chef) has an amazing menu loaded with freshly made items and sauces. She spends a lot of time and energy putting together some great, uniquely prepared menu items that sound typical, but aren't done the typical way. Her Shrimp Po Boy was outstanding! The bread is part of what makes an amazing Po Boy and she knocked it out of the park by selecting the bread she's using. She explained she specifically selected this bakery for the bread and it came out perfect! The shrimp was perfectly battered with a slight cornmeal batter (I know, not traditional, but perfectly done!) and the sauce on top brought it together nicely! The steak & cheese was excellent! Nice beef, no fat/gristle and great toppings and cheese... We added sautéed jalapeño and onions to it and they really made it taste great! My favorite item was her cole slaw - it was unbelievably tasty and very fresh! You can tell it's made fresh daily!!! The fish sandwich is incredible too... fresh fish with her homemade tartar and a pickle and cheese added... I've never had a fish sandwich with a pickle, but this was great! The bun was incredible too. They offer the typical assortment of wines, beers, and even the popular new alcohol canned drinks. The view, if you sit outside is incredible with views of the cliffs across the Jackson River. Service from the servers, all the way up to Jenny herself was great too. Everyone is treated like family there. Highly recommend stopping in for dinner, lunch, whatever - we definitely enjoyed it!

The reason for 4 stars is the food while good and unique missed the mark a bit. The fried elements seemed to either indicate the oil was a bit old or they overcooked a few of our items. The fried greenbeans while really good overall and a unique preparation. Had a subtle burnt flavor and same with the Catfish Poboy. The PoBoy was uniquely prepared too with green tomatoes that really worked well. But the condiment was thin, and the tomatoes could have been a bit thicker cut. So flavor was good, but could have been better. The fries that came with the sandwiches were good though. So TLDR, the breading on the catfish, and the fried green beans, was thick and looked slightly over cooked and tasted a tad burnt but at the same time the food itself seemed cooked properly. Not horrible and overall was very good. Just not 5 star. But much better than standard bar food fare. Standout though was the dessert (Hot Brownie with ice cream) it was absolutely amazing. I'll be back and hopefully can give them a 5 star later.

The restaurant was empty of customers and only a couple of guys at the bar. The waitress came to our table and took our drink order along with out food order. The drinks didn't arrive for about twenty minutes. After the delivery of the drinks, the waitress didn't return to our table to take a second or subsequent drink orders. Finally, the drinks arrived and we waited for the food. There are a lot of local craft beers on the list, along with a wide selection of whiskies. Would have been fun to try some, but we never really had service at out table. This bar is Irish themed and Irish folk music is played on the sound system, loudly. Not bad, but you do h a very to speak up during conversations. The food arrived and was ,"just okay". I had the fried chicken sandwich, my friends had the burger. My wife had the grilled chicken sandwich. All meals came with fries. The service needs to step up their game. It was not busy at all and the wait staff were more interesting in socializing with each other than tending to the customers. Also, the food was delivered warm, it probably had been sitting under a light for some time. This place has great potential, but changes in service staffs priorities need to happen. Not impressed with this place, but if you decide to give them a try, I hope your experiences are better than ours.
