Tapioca Express has a special place in my heart. I've been coming here since I was probably still in elementary school back when it was still in the building across from where it is now. Today I even take my 2 year old son here and he loves the same drinks I've gotten since I was little. I've seen a lot of the bad reviews and I will point out that this reminds me if more of this old school boba shops rather than the newer high quality ones I see more of nowadays. It gives me Boba Loca and Ding Tea vides compared to Sharetea and Sunright (if that makes any sense), that being said I don't usually recommend the teas here (especially the flavored teas mainly because they have a very artificial flavor) but their blended items are amazing! (snowbubbles, slushies, or milk frosti) Most people I've brought here don't like the teas, but they have a pretty big menu so it's all about finding something you like. It took my partner 4 different drinks until he found the one that he liked. This is a very good, clean and friendly boba and little restaurant next to the theater in The shopping mall. Beside the boba drinks, they now have menus for foods too. Been coming here for years! It's practically my childhood. Honestly, their popcorn chicken is about the best in the area. I think what stands out about it is the fact that there's more meat than there is batter. It actually feels healthier than the regular popcorn chicken you would get at another boba place. As for their drinks, I would rate the milk tea one of my favorites in Cerritos. It tastes like the classic milk tea that you would expect from the name, and it's all real black tea! I used to come here all the time to get their honeydew snow bubble because it used to be so good!! But sadly it is not anymore. Their weren't many people when I came in but bunches of groups came in after me. I only ordered one drink and it took forever!!! Everyone was waiting a long time for their drinks. It always seemed like a drink was about to be ready because the blenders were going off constantly but no drinks were coming out. The cashier noticed that the drinks weren't coming out and she goes and checks and the drinks had been sitting behind the counter! I finally got my drink after a long wait and the consistency of it was so watery from sitting too long and they had put too much honeydew flavoring it made it beyond sweet and it was almost in drinkable. I know a Honeydew snow that tastes like a honeydew snow but it was just too much of whatever flavoring they put in it because it was beyond sweet and too strong it made me feel nauseous drinking it. The light crunch from the ice which is my favorite part was gone from sitting out too long. This was not a pleasant experience. I don't recommend coming here. TapEx is a Cerritos institution. While many boba stores are constantly popping up and are really good, I will always have a soft spot for tapioca express. It was the first place I tried boba tea and I've been coming here since I was 11 or 12. My absolute favorite thing to get here is the crispy tofu. It's honestly great. It's basically very similar to the popcorn chicken but it comes with a sweet chili dipping sauce that's amazing. I hadn't come here in years but decided to come by and try it again for nostalgia's sake. It slapped. I also got the mango green tea sans boba and it was a refreshing delight. The Jasmine Milk Tea with boba (25% sweetness) had a hint of jasmine aroma but none in the taste. The milk tea base was bland, a bit of bitter and mouthfeel that comes from over-steeping a tea. The boba were acceptable, chewy as expected. The drink lacked a dominant flavor, and might have been salvageable at full sweetness levels, but at only 25% I can't recommend this to anyone else. read more

I stop by here for lunch sometimes and the staff is always friendly. I usually get the crispy chicken and I've never been disappointed with the taste or quality. The place itself has a couple of tables inside and a few outdoors for sitting and eating. It's always clean and has a modern vibe. It's a typical boba place, but it has a lot of variety when it comes to drink options. I've tried their tapioca milk tea and one of their smoothies. I remember the smoothie being super yummy and the milk tea just being average. I usually come here to eat so I haven't tried a lot of their drinks, but every once in awhile I give one a try. This is based on one visit I ordered a popcorn chicken (large, medium spicy) with the recommendation of the cashier girl to go with Mango Green Tea with Boba (also large, easy ice). Total comes out to be 13.74$. I personally think the popcorn chicken is good. Not too much batter, just right amount and got good bite size to it. The chicken is pretty juicy and the drink itself is pretty good. Much better than what the previous establishment offered and is a much welcomed addition to the Cerritos Town Center. Keep it up! I thought it would just be a one time visit but so far I enjoy it greatly. Always a good default place to get some your standard boba drink & easy Taiwanese eats. My favorites are the matcha green tea snow bubble, taro milk tea, and jasmine green tea drinks! All with regular boba and maybe small boba if I'm feeling a little feisty ;) I am a major fan of the extra spicy crispy chicken with extra basil. The meals are always reasonably priced and come with a decent amount of food that consists of entrée, rice, veggies, boiled egg, & also get a black or green tea all under $8! The taste profile may not be for everyone out there but if your inner Asian is craving something savory, then give it a try. Tapioca Express is definitely an oldie especially when all these bold and trendy tea houses and cafes are popping up throughout the area. This place was somewhat tiny. It's literally on the corner. But conveniently located. The Cerritos Towne Center. When I first got introduced to the world of boba, TAPIOCA EXPRESS was my first, & you never forget your first. Tapioca Express Boba drinks is where I base all of my boba experiences. To this day, I still prefer their Taro Slushy with boba. Nothing even comes close. My other favorite is their Milk Tea with Boba. So refreshing! Finally my last favorite is their Mocha Snow Bubble with Boba. More importantly, all of the locations I've visited the taste has been consistent. Except the TE in the Santa Anita Mall kiosk (that place is literally garbage, I'm not sure if it is affiliated with TE, hopefully not, if they are they should drop the name because that spot is making the TE name look very bad!) Anyway, if there is a TAPIOCA EXPRESS near you, then look no further. Not Gong Cha, Not Quickly Not Lollicup. (only if you have to really...) Otherwise, TE is the place for boba. Period. read more

Me and my friend walked in cause she wanted some boba and asked if i was going to get one as well. I looked on their menu and they had coconut snowbubble, score! I love coconut anything pretty much. And the two workers told me that their coconut snowbubble was better than what it was before. Now, instead of just a coconut mixed based, they actually throw in some coconut flakes. It sounded good. So I ordered one. My friend ordered their mango snowbubble. Boy did I regret ordering it. Instead of flakes, the coconut was pureed with the drink so that when you take a drink of it, its like you're swallowing a disgusting drink that's had small tiny coconut in it. Did not taste good at all!! The worst part was, all that small pureed pieces were getting stuck between my lips and gum after a while, how annoying. My friend didn't like hers as well. hmmmm .... I ordered Jade greent tea with mini boba and popcorn chicken extra spicy. Apparently the other customer mistaken my order as his and snatched it immediately. I asked the employee wasnt that my order, and he looked just as confused as i did, so he doubled checked the ticket orders and confirmed it was mine. But the other customer kept saying "i thought it was mine cause he was looking at me. " Hey buddy, I'm pretty sure it was because he was confused why you were taking my items. I mean he looked more confused than directing to you that it was your order. Good old Tapex. Best snack complement when you need to study. I haven't been to a Tapex since college and coming here brought back memories. I went for an iced green tea. It was a little on the sweeter side. Next time I'd ask to tone it down on the sweetness. I also got my usual crispy chicken snack. They don't really give you as much chicken for how much you pay ($4.50) at this location which was slightly disappointing. They also skimp out of the sauces. My total came to about $9 for a drink and a bit of chicken. A little overpriced if you ask me. The $5 minimum is annoying because if you don't carry cash on you and just want a drink, you'll probably have to purchase something else. Not the greatest drinks I've had. Don't even know why I decided to get the crispy chicken dinner thing. Right before I went to see a movie (right across), I was already hungry. I had been craving seafood all weekend and even checked the menu at Arte' 2 doors down. But I guess my eyes really deceived me. For under $10, the meal came with a drink. I'm such a sucker for boba. The girl at the counter was super nice. The order took about 5 minutes. Food - firstly, I don't consider myself a picky eater. I'm open to try almost anything. But if there's one thing I consistently do not like, it is chicken nuggets. NUGGETS, the one that's breaded and mashed up and mixed with who knows what fillers and then shaped to be fried to make them look like pieces of fried chicken without a bone. I can do with fingers, the real pieces of chicken, just not the mashed up stuff. I ordered it medium spicy. The spicy came in the form of sprinkles of red spicy thing with salt pieces. That's another thing, I don't like sprinkling salt that won't melt in with the food, so this salt did not melt in. The cabbage thing was soggy, and the ground meat with egg looked old. Hey, but if you love, love, love chicken nuggets, then have a go at it. Arghhh, so this is a lesson for me. Don't ever order something you know you don't like just because A) it looks good on the picture, B) when you're super hungry and don't want to wait for anything else, C) just because it's cheaper and you get a free drink. I did a quick drop in for a milk tea with boba to-go. Super friendly service. The cashier was quite informative. I asked him about the difference between regular boba and honey boba (one is made with brown sugar and other with honey). The large came out to $3 and some change. A pretty average price for the drink. I've realized that I really like that machine that melts the plastic top on the cup because I can walk around with my cup (before piercing the film) and not worry of any spillage. I really wanted to give this location a 5-stars, but imo, doesn't deserve it due to the pricing of the drinks and snacks. First of all, what a sweet lady! I believe she is the owner, manager of some sort, but she is such a patient and kind woman. I have been to a few other boba shops where the owners have serious attitude while taking orders, but she was just so patient when I asked her a few questions. I believe in the end, you really do reflect your opinions on how well the customer service is. Anyway, I tried their Thai Tea Snow Bubble and it was amazing! But after a while, it kind of gets boring, but taste and quality was there. Yes you don't get a whole load of chicken, but you also have your other sides of grounded pork, egg, AND a drink. Plus both pork and chicken is flavorful so it'll keep you satisfied. I believe the owner rang me up. She was helpful and when I asked if I could not get tea but a bubble drink instead, she offered to put boba in my tea. I was so excited that when I saw this store reopened at the food court in Cerritos' Town center last week and I decided to get my favorite meal- pork chop rice today, not sure if the owner is the same as before, the pork chop was totally not acceptable, so much fat and not breaded well before frying , it was very greasy and the hot pepper powder for the seasoning was not right, they used paprika instead of Taiwan's red pepper powder I guessed, i don't know what happened for their recipes, Just want to let everyone know that is not original flavor they supposed to have.
