Definitely the best bar/restaurant we encountered east of Marquette. You won't really find service, food, or beer of this quality elsewhere nearby - we ended up coming back here repeatedly while nearby because the interior was warm and polished (literally, it has a beautiful giant old wood bar), staff was very laid back and friendly, the beer selection was great, and the food was super delicious. It's the only place in the area we found with a "young" vibe, with people in their 20s/30s around. Recommend the sandwiches (especially the Reuben) over the pizza, as this is thin crispy crust pizza that seems to be typical of the UP (being used to Detroit-style pizza, it's not really for me, but to each their own). So glad we stopped here for dinner! Beautiful bar inside (you'd never know by the exterior) with a great vibe. The service was EXCEPTIONAL and the reason for the five star review for sure! Beer was great (although as trolls from the lower peninsula I would've love to see more UP beers on the menu that I can't get down south) and the pretzels with cheese and garlic butter were AMAZING! Wish I would've taken a picture but we devoured them. Side salads were fresh, only down side was the Alfredo was a bit over cooked for my liking of pasta but still yummy! I really wanted to like this place, but it was kind of a mess. I paid for a couple rounds in cash and each time I had to ask multiple times over the course of 15 minutes in order to get my change. The PoS system tracking which beer was out is a cool idea, but it wasn't functioning properly. We had to flag a server down for menus. Then we had to flag a server down to take our order. Mozzarella sticks were soggy and limp, the pizza crust was so hard you could barely bite into it, and the bread for the bruschetta was cold and soggy with no texture. The bruschetta balsamic sauce was weirdly sweet and I could taste no vinegar or oil. Our group of 4 took one bite each out of the pizza and couldn't bring ourselves to eat another bite. It was the single worst pizza I have ever had in my life. The space is beautiful, and the selection of Michigan drafts is great, but the service is confused and the food is worse than a frozen TV dinner. I hope when I return that my first experience with the food was just a fluke. read more

Great bar with a cozy combination of retro throwback with grandiose wood carvings and warm tones and contemporary comfort. We liked the beer selection, and there was at least one beer for each style preference (e.g., American pale ale, black ale, Pilsen, lager, fruit derivative). The food was delicious and priced well. Try anything with the beer cheese. It has a nice slightly spicy kick to it at the end but definitely doesn't overwhelm. I would eat it on cardboard. We had it smothered on fries with crumbly bacon bits and also on the Tap burger. Perfect bar food at a very reasonable price and portion size. We had terrible service. We were at the restaurant for an hour. We asked about our appetizer 4 times. Tables that came in after us finished their food before we got utensils or our appetizer. Our host complained to the server who brought one entree and we asked for the manager. He was upset about the delayed service. Came in on a whim traveling through town. Great selections of drinks, enjoyed a Vander Mill Campari spritz cider and a strohs. For lunch, I ordered a taco bowl, with mushrooms instead of beef. It comes to me, and it's a beautiful taco shell with big and juicy grilled mushrooms, thanks to chef. Cheese was beautifully melted on top. Wish I would've taken a photo before I DEVOURED it. Food: 5 Stars Atmosphere: 3 Stars Dropped in last week for a meal at the bar. Seating was very tight, but we managed. Everything looked SO good! We chose our meals, and waited and waited. Must have been a busy time at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon. We were wearing masks - as we're not local to the area - while we waited for our food to arrive. Our server was great. Attentive, mask-wearing and just overall great. However, there were a few other servers who came up within inches (read- not foot) without masks and yelling, hanging out and in our personal bubble. We were quickly seated and our orders for food and drinks were promptly taken. We ordered simple stuff, 2 orders of nachos and an order of fries. A little while later the waitress took our second drink order and after that things went down hill. After almost an hour went by since our food orders were taken and having watched several other tables who had come in after us get their food, I flagged down the waitress. She then brought our drink order and said she would check on the food. Miraculously our nachos and fries were finally ready. However, everything was cold. The meat in the nachos was barely warm but the cheese was cold as was the green peppers. The bacon & cheese fries were also cold. I complained to the waitress and she said, "they are not cold I watched them being put up." I asked her to try them and she refused. She left and came back a minute later saying the cook said the cheese must be cold because they had to open a new can of cheese. That made me feel much better. In the end the waitress gave us her employee discount which knocked about $10 off of our $60+ bill. Kudos to her for that. However, I'm convinced that our waitress simply forgot about us after taking our 2nd drink order. Otherwise, she would have at least brought out the drinks shortly after we ordered them. After having been basically called a liar by the waitress when I told the waitress my food was cold, I'll never go back. There are places in the Manistique area with much better service. read more

Extremely disappointed tonight. We had a group of 4, there were two wait staff. They were full but not overly busy. We sat at the bar and then were moved to the corner. Jen Ofer was our waitress and she was all over the place. Came to our table four times just to be distracted to take care of others to come back to apologize. 37 minutes later we placed our order, only then to have had her not put in our order. I think it was on purpose to be honest as my patience was growing thin. Bottom line food was mediocre, fatty beef tacos and soggy Bruchetta. This cool waitress seated us in a booth...she had our drink orders up..IPA beers, not my favorite..but we were good with our choices..the dinners..my friend Jim had the Walleye..there was nothing left on his plate..His wife chose the Prime Rib Sandwhich..she said it was very good, but it came in chunks rather than shaved and difficult to eat in sandwhich form but she commented it was very good. I had the Alfredo with chicken and It was good, but the cup if onion soup was a great choice..my wife had the Reuben, recommended by our wonderful waitress...she kept tabs on us durimg the entire meal..brought whatever extra we needed.. The scene was a bar scene with a bar and stools, high tables and booths..somehwat loud, TV sports like ESPN reviews, etc..clean and just all around good atmosphere..Annnd at 7, the locals poured in, or came in For a pour..lol...but when the locals come in you know you got a Bingo! Original huge carved wooden bar dates to the late 1800s. Menu is diverse. I built my own burger and had fresh green beans alongside, yum. Husband had "sketti," with a meaty sauce. Loved it. I had really high hopes for this place. They had great local beer on tap, nicer atmosphere... but that's just about it. The staff wasn't knowledgeable about the beers. The POS system showed what kegs were full or not wasn't working at all. When I got the food (BLT) the bread was soggy and it was very cold. When we asked for our checks, they were all messed up. I've been to Tap21 MANY times, and the service is always. so slow. There's always two people working up front; one tending the bar and another for the floor and to help once business picks up I'd assume; and every single time my friend and I would eat here for one very overpriced, but also VERY delicious item, we'd spend a minimum of five minutes waiting for someone to take our order, or even to acknowledge that we'd entered the establishment. Worse yet, one of our mutual friends worked here as a dishwasher and upon giving her two weeks notice was fired the very next time she came in to work. Showed up early, showered, ready to go, only to be let go because she had the human decency to give them a heads up. Before this incident had happened too, I was interested in waitressing here and management was certainly sending mixed signals saying to me that they couldn't hire anyone under 21 to serve or even just wait tables, but yet told the friend I come in with all the time that yeah they could hire you to waitress so long as you could legally serve alcohol (18 years of age or older). Do keep in mind I've worked as a waitress for 2+ years, so I know what I'm talking about. It. Hubby had their tap burger which he really liked and I had a grilled chicken sandwich...which was OK but nothing special. I had a bite of his burger and wish I had ordered that instead. Thought this place was going to be the cool hole in the wall place we were looking for! The ambiance was fine but it was evident that the wait staff has terrible customer service skills (if any at all). Three women were working and it took 20 minutes for them to clean off an open table. As soon we were able to sit, it took them another 10 minutes to give us the menus and they didn't even take our drink order at that time. We waited ANOTHER 20 minutes for someone to take our order but by that time we were better off being served at Wheaty's pub- just a few doors down the street! (Great outdoor options and no terrible wait staff- would recommend wheatys for anyone coming in out of town). Also, if you were still wondering if you should check this palace out in the midst of a pandemic, you should know they don't clean down the tables entirely. They keep all ketchup, mustard, salt and pepper on the table (without wiping them down between customers)- hello covid 19! read more
