Taormina II is located in Peekskill right along the Hudson river, and I found myself here for an end of the year dinner with about 15 others. The entire experience and meal was definitely worth the hour drive north of Manhattan! Since it was a weeknight, we were offered the prix fixe menu in addition to their regular menu. Although the regular menu has a few selections that are missing from the other (lobster ravioli, one of my FAVORITES!) the prix fixe menu was a much better deal. For $16, you get a choice of appetizer, salad, entree, and a complimentary soda, beer, or wine. I started off with the baked Clams Oreganato (a bit "bready"), before we were all served our house salads. Their homemade vinaigrette was prepared with crushed almonds and was absolutely delicious! For my entree, I selected the Chicken Sabrina, two thin chicken cutlets topped with mozzarella cheese and drizzled in a scrumptious pesto sauce. On the same plate was a potato and green beans with a hint of garlic and butter. Service was friendly, and they made sure to get everyone's food out simultaneously, despite that some in our party arrived later than others. My first time here. Service was good. Everyone working there was friendly. Minestrone soup was quite good. Eggplant rollatine was not what I was expecting, though perhaps it was my own fault for not paying attention to the description in the menu? Either way it was more or less a plate full of ricotta cheese, along with some red sauce, and some thin slivers of eggplant rolled around the cheese. It was tasty, but .... I was not interested in eating a plate full of ricotta cheese, so I left most of that on the plate. The tiramasu was 'ok'. Didn't appear to be made in-house, as it came in a plastic dish container ....likely from another business that makes tiramisu in bulk for Italian restaurants. I've seen dinner deals which include salad or soup, dinner and a soda for nearly the same price so this was ballin on a budget if you need to. The three of us shared three different apps of coconut shrimp, mozz-basil-tomato-eggplant, and mozzarella sticks. All very good and came out fairly fast. You get a handful of options for dinner like mushroom ravioli, chicken parm, eggplant parm, pastas.. the usual guid fare. Our food was also above decent quality and a nice portion for everyone. When dessert came only two of us could handle it, which is a choice of cheesecake or carrot cake (or i suppose whatever else they may offer that night.) The coolest part is, if you want to skip dessert & coffee or just coffee or dont drink, they deduct a few bucks from your dinner! Instead of paying the 18.95 you might end up only having to pay 15.95. Its a really good deal and you cant go wrong! It was rather quiet the night we went but I would gladly come back and try some other menu choices as well as recomment to others to check out. This restaurant is absolutely fantastic!! We stumbled upon it after having seen a beautiful sunset on the Hudson which by the way can be seen the moment you step outside if this restaurant. We didn't know what to expect and we were so happy with our findings. They have a cash only four course meal for $20.95. The meal included house wine, choice of appetizers, a main dish which included salad and it a medley of sautéed veggies with a non pasta dish, desert, coffee or tea. We had burgundy and rose wine, a scrumptious stack of mozzarella, eggplant, basil and tomato as appetizers; my partner raved about the portobello mushroom ravioli drenched in cheese sauce, while I savored every forkful of blackened tilapia with sautéed garlic spinach and cannelloni beans and a medley of other sautéed mixed veggies. We finished the meal with tea for my English companion and hearty and flavorful brewed coffee. We had little room for deserts so bagged up slices of cheese cake and carrot cake. ( I did pinch a taste of both and OMG!!!! Very excellent deserts!) We were comfortable. The waitresses were lovely. The ambience was warm and pleasant framed by nice music , candles and the sounds of other diners enjoying their meals and cascading sounds of good cheer bellowing in from the bar area on the other side of the dining room wall. Ten minutes later I asked them where my nieces food was and the waitress said the cook messed it up and gave wrong order. So after 20 mins we took my nieces food to go and we ended up sharing my plate. And when the waitress came back, she said sorry I wrote it down wrong. So which is it, you or the cook? I was mad at the waitress. And her attitude is uncalled for. They did not give us a discount or anything and didn't even Acknowledge their mistake blaming one or the other. My brother lives in Peekskill and frequented this restaurant weekly for years and got to know everyone there. This past week my brother passed away unexpectedly so after the funeral mass this was the obvious choice for lunch. With no way of knowing how many people we would have attend we told the restaurant it could be up to 50 people at 1pm on a Wednesday. We had 32 people show up and they charged us for 42 stating they prepared food for 50, which in no way was there food for 50. This was not a wedding where you have an exact headcount. Side note: I'd like to give Taormina a 2.5 out of 5 stars, however I am unable due to the archaic Yelp grading scale, to be conservative I will give them 2 stars. I came to Taormina yesterday after an exhilarating hike through Blue Mountain State Park. I was not well versed in the foodie scene of Peekskill, and have to admit this was not my first or second option. I feel like this is the root of the problem for the majority of the negative reviews on Yelp. So onto Taormina itself. Upon entering, my first thought was the decor. I doubt any upgrades have been made since before my birth year (1992). However, who really cares? It's Italian comfort food. A place should not be judged by the decor. It's spacious! There was a banquet hall in the back which was holding a Minnie mouse themed birthday party, and 2 other dining areas. The waitstaff was severely understaffed. One stressed out lady was taking care of all 3 areas of the restaurant plus the bar. She deserves a gold star, no one has time for that shit. We were traveling so we didn't want to fill up and feel gross for the trip home. But oh man we were famished! We placed an order for Penne Alla Vodka, a side of sausage, and at the last moment splurged for some garlic bread as well to split. As soon as our order was placed, a bus boy greeted us with an assortment of bread for the table. Usually this gesture causes feelings of extreme jubilance, however after placing an order for garlic bread I was indifferent. Bread was good though. Garlic bread arrived way before the main course. Or we might have just devoured it? I'm not sure, but what I am sure about was that the garlic bread was the definition of bland. I'm talking picture next to the word in the dictionary. Have no fear though fellow yelpers, this did not undermine my dinner. Thanks to my Italian roots ;), I knew to drench those bad boys in olive oil, salt, pepper and parmesan cheese. Hopefully, Taormina reads this and takes some tips. Finally we get to that coveted Penne Alla Vodka (my favorite Italian dish) with a side of sausage. i was full from the garlic bread, but I felt like a fat kid at a candy store when I started scooping a portion onto my plate, mmmhhmmm it looked good. I took that first bite and :( I was disappointed. It gave me some nostalgia to my younger years when I was microwaving Chef Boyardee's famous Beefaroni on the reg. Sigh, such disappointment. I looked over at my special someone and she confirmed my negativity. After getting acquired to the taste, we were able to enjoy it a little more. They need to add some fresh herbs and spice into that bad boy to really make the flavor pop though. By the time we put our forks down it looked like we didn't even make a dent! Overall, Taormina is a spot that needs to be planned out to go to. This is not a spur of the moment place. If you know what you're getting into then thats great. If not though, read my review and move on. My daughter ordered a wine and we had to ask 3 x before she received her glass. Ordered 2 Cesar salads 1 house salad - got 3 house salads. We waited nearly 1 hour after our appetizers before our main meal was served. Needless to say we had enough, wrapped our dinners up to go and left. Went home and we had 3 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches which were awesome. Don't even know if our order is correct. We'll find out when we have them for dinner tomorrow night. So I get dragged into this so called restaurant for another going away party, why this choice is beyond me. The food was pretty blah, the broccoli rabe greasy mushy and seasoned with garlic powder that left a weird after taste. The pasta dish could have come out of the freezer section of Stop & Shop. The real clincher,, charging the amount they do for wine, some of which is the cheapest hooch and pretty awful. I honestly don't know how this place has survived. If i ever have to go for another soirée, I'll make sure to eat at home first. I'm always hopeful for local business, I have none for this one. read more

We are still huge fans of their pre-fixe dinner at $19.95 per person Sunday-Thursday. The menu is extensive on the pre-fixe and you get bread, choice of an appetizer, salad, entrée, dessert, coffee/tea and a glass of wine or soda. If you choose not to get dessert, they take $3.00 off of the price. My husband and I paid (with tip) $52 AND both walked away with leftovers! Portions are not small (hence the leftovers). I dined here last night with my boyfriend. The manager explained that there was a retirement party going on, so he seated us in a quieter, more intimate area. My boyfriend and I had printed out the Yelp $20 for $40 deal and it was well worth it; our $60 bill came out to be $20! The food was pretty good; I had veal parm (very heavy!) and my boyfriend had their chicken dish. It was advertised as something extravagant but when he got it, it was pretty much chicken francese with peas on top. He enjoyed it anyway. Our waitress had a table of her friends near us, which got to be pretty irritating with their cursing and her joining them between serving us, families, and working at the bar. It was as if the girl busing tables was more courteous than the actual waitress. I would return to this restaurant though, despite our waitress and the very loud retirement party going on in the next room.
