I will be honest, this restaurant is a solid 3.5, and in my opinion closer to 3 than 4, but my family insisted on 4. The interior is old-fashioned looking, with sad furniture and dying poinsettia plants on window sills (this is March). It is clean and well lit though, so that's a plus. We ordered different things for lunch and honestly the food is average. My daughter had penne ala vodka, and the sauce was bright orange, with pasta swimming in it. My husband's chicken parm was okay, he didn't enjoy the sauce that much. My daughter liked her chicken salad, and chicken tasted particularly good. I had a caprese panini and it was a bit runny and overly salty. The prices for lunch were reasonable. The service was friendly and helpful. The waitress kept checking in on us and even packed our leftovers for us. Much appreciated. This place is good if you are feeing nostalgic and want that old fashioned Italian vibe. Honestly, it is not my cup of tea, but my mother in law swears by this restaurant as it brings back memories for her. To each their own. I would not be back personally. read more

I was surprised to see so many low ratings for this wonderful restaurant. My experiences have only been positive. Even though I live a half hour away, I come here as often as I can, either for lunch with friends or for dinner with my wife and sometimes with other couples. We can't eat gluten, and Dante's is one of the best places we've found when it comes to having a variety of gluten-free options. Unlike some other Italian restaurants, they have gluten-free bread crumbs, so we can get fried calamari, mozzarella sticks, chicken or shrimp parmesan, and many other dishes. The service is friendly and competent. The servers take our gluten concerns seriously. The food is very good, the portions are satisfactory, and the prices, especially in our current climate where many places are charging outrageously, are fair and reasonable. If you're looking for a fancy place, this is not for you. It's a typical trattoria. It's clean and presentable, but interior decorating took a back seat to food and service, which is something I appreciate. I feel comfortable there, and I feel welcome. I recommend that locals as well as those with celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity check out this fine establishment. I think that you'll be pleased. Dante's is everything you'd want your go-to neighborhood spot to be. Fresh, delicious food, fair prices, and most of all, wonderful hospitality. Josephine and her staff are always warm and welcoming - there to greet you when you first walk in, making families with children feel comfortable, and always doing their best to accommodate their customers. We love their chicken parm, penne vodka, paninis, grandma slices, and garlic knots - you can't go wrong. I have been to Dante's a few times and the food was always good. Tonight I ordered a sandwich and a calzone. I was bringing some food home. When the calzone arrived it was not cooked. The ricotta cheese was solid. I took a bite and it was terrible. I told the waitress that I didn't want it because it wasn't cooked and it tasted bad. She took it back. When the bill came the calzone was not taken off. I asked the waitress and she checked with the owner. She came back and said they would not take it off the bill. I didn't argue but I will tell you,I will never return to this place again. It wasn't about the $7 that I paid, it's about the owner. Very disappointing. I lost $7 and she lost a customer. read more

I just had another fantastic catering order! We had 7 half trays - Chicken Marsala, Chicken Franchise, Eggplant Rollatini, Sausage & Peppers in a red sauce, Penne Vodka, Farfalle Bandiera & Sautéed Mixed Veggies. I was not expecting 3 loaves of sliced bread - being sliced was a huge bonus for me. Also, I did not order Garlic Knots but they had given me a large tin. Wow!! Went here on Saturday May 13th, as a party of 20, after a funeral at Yorktown Funeral Home. We went towards the back, which is their party room. Food took an awfully long time to cook, but maybe it seemed longer because we were hungry, and it was busy for mother's Day weekend. Appreciate them for accommodating us, as many other places were booked. Because we were in the party room, it was a limited menu meal- so only 3 options were listed and available. The training server gave us a hard time because he didn't know if the meal came with anything, nor explained the menu. it was also our first time here, so apologies for not knowing the menu! Other server seemed a bit nasty too, but someone in our party wanted their meal to go, and probably talked to the manager, and the server was better after that. We started with an appetizer of fried mosseralla, fried zucchini, eggplant parm, and clams. We had to ask what the food was when it first came out though. It's important because what if someone had a fish allergy and didn't want the eggplant touching it? we also got salad. I asked for my dressing on the side, and got it when it was ready, but the server was kinda nasty about it. I put my dressing on the side because sometimes there is too much dressing! the dressing was delicous though. We also were served Penne ala vodka, which was pretty good. As far as our entrees, we had a choice of chicken parm, flounder franchuze, and steak. many ordered the steak and the chicken parm. I ordered the fish, however, it would help to explain what the dish looks like, what it comes with, including any opinions like is it cheezy? i liked my fish, but it was kind of salty. i ate all of the string beans and the fish though. the potato croquet that was served was very cheezy, didn't like it, perhaps would have preffered more string beans if it was offered. Finally, we were served some pasteries like carrot cake, something that looked like an eggclair, chocolate cake, neopolitan, and some coffee. again, would have helped explaining what the food is, some is obvious but others, eh. Dante's is one of the original pizza places in town and they still are simply the best! Dante's has been here since my family moved to Mahopac (about 20 years ago) and everyone we know speaks highly of this restaurant. The pizza is always great and so is the service! They have a good diverse menu of pizzas & entrees to choose from so be sure to explore a bit. The toppings are very fresh and, of course, they have the basics down to a science (aka crust, sauce, & cheese). I can also vouch for the Meatball Park Wedge, it was excellent. Keep it up, Dante's! The food here is and always has been excellent. BUT I stopped there this afternoon and the woman at the cash register was not wearing her mask correctly (not covering her nose) and then a young woman walked out from the back wearing her mask completely off her face and under her chin. I asked each of them to put their masks on and they complied. But when I mentioned to the woman at the cash register, she claimed she was wearing it correctly and I had to explain how it was supposed to be worn. She said she's been wearing it for six months to protect herself and her customers. I said that's great, but it's important to be worn correctly. I also mentioned that the young woman working in the back wasn't wearing it at all. The older woman said that's because it was hot in the back. I explained that it isn't a reason not to wear it. It was an awkward exchange on all levels but I do hope they heard me. It shouldn't be the customers responsibility to enforce wearing masks. I know this is a complicated subject. I know there are different opinions on this... But when your opinion has the ability to make me sick and contaminate my food, that becomes a larger issue for me. read more

Gave this place a try for delivery after a long day of working on our house and SO glad we did! Everything we ordered was delicious and they were super helpful about gluten free options on the phone. Apart from individual GF pizzas and GF penne, they have the mythical, rarely seen dream of GLUTEN FREE RAVIOLI! I got it with vodka sauce and it was so good. Definitely would reorder. My partner loved the GF chicken Francese (never seen that before) and the chicken Cobb salad way exceeded expectations. Ordered delivery of Zita with meatballs and Veal Parm. Veal was delivered without pasta. I called to ask about it. Owner told me I should've indicated what kind of pasta I wanted. When I told her I used an app to order and there was no choice given, she just reiterated I should've specified pasta type and hung up. She made no effort to make it right. We order delivery a few times a week. Since they are just a mile or so from our home, we decided to try them. This will also be the last time we order from there. Our bill was $52 altogether. Too much for that poor quality. We'll go back to Eduardo's or La Villetta who both make excellent Italian food. Update: The owner called me back and offered to make things right. While a bit late, I do appreciate the gesture. I also realized that when viewing the menu, the person in the car with me that did the ordering didn't see the pasta choices. I have ordered a few times from Dante's especially since I work at Acme so it's very convenient for me. The first couple times I ordered a sausage, pepper and onion pie and this last time I ordered a Hawaiian pie and it was great. They are also very reasonable. This place is right across the street from my grandmas house, I just love eating here. We also had her 80th birthday party here. Great environment, great staff and fab food. I had one of the chicken specials which was very delicious can't remember the name of it but spinach and grilled chicken are always a great choice for me. We also had the mussels fradiavolo app, the sauce was so delish not to spicy but spicy enough for the taste. My grandma had the chicken francese which she loves and always enjoys. read more

Dante's has become my new go to place for everything! Their pasta is always great, dinner dishes delicious and pizza is perfect. Their burgers have no right being as good as they are coming from an Italian restaurant. The skirt steak is the best around. My only criticism is the chicken wings. We had a private party for about 70 people on a Sunday. Management: Very accommodating and flexible when possible. We changed our party size several times but the manager worked with us and made sure we had the right space without overpaying. Food: Everything was great and the price more than reasonable for our party. Food was served in courses, everything was fresh. We had filet of sole, chicken francese and parmigiana as our entree options, all delicious! The package included salad and pasta and we ordered apps. It was great to be able to offer our guests a 4 course meal. Service: Professional and very pleasant. The staff did a great job and were particularly sweet to all of our guests. We called,, spoke to the owner, complained, and she agreed to send a corrected, replacement order. When the delivery person arrived, he presented me with a bill, a new check, for the corrected delivery..I asked the delivery guy to wait. closed the door, collected the original (incorrect) order, opened the door, handed the old dinner order to the delivery person and told him to tell his boss to shove them both up her ass. Went there with my wife for a nice dinner however they got both orders wrong. I ordered chicken scarpariello. The menu shows chicken, sausage and hot cherry peppers. When ordering, I said that I wanted to make sure only that no red peppers would be put in the meal (since I get sick from them) and only the hot cherry peppers. The server said that the meal doesn't include red bell peppers, but would note it on the order. My meal came loaded with red peppers, which I ended up picking out of the meal. A second server served the meal who was not very accommodating. When I made a comment about the peppers, she just said those are the peppers that come with it and didn't try to make it right. The dish was clearly not as described in the menu. My wife ordered zuppa di pesce with a lobster tail. My wife received the dish without the lobster tail. When the original server came over to ask how our meal was, we now mentioned the lack of a lobster tail. She came back and said that the cook made the wrong meal and would take $5 off the bill. When the bill came, they took $2.50 off (it was a nit, but still annoying at the same time). Our meal took about an hour to be served with only 2 other couples in the restaurant. Dante's Trattoria needs to have better customer service. We will not be back. read more
