Haven't been to have my nails done in a long while and thought it might be peaceful here, which it was. I got the name off a FB group, probably a referral from a Five Points neighbor. Very sweet person. Quiet atmosphere. Easy parking. Great location, next to NoFo's. Not as noticeable from a distance but was a less professional grade manicure and hand massage than I would have liked. Sort of timid. Even with the Emory board. Fingernails were not cleaned out and had to ask. Only went back and did just one. Polish was not applied smoothly or evenly in the two coats. There were streaks and bubbles. Didn't take it to the edges of skin, while leaving nail polish remnants on some fingertips. Finally just let her finish and departed, thinking I'd probably have to take this all off at home. It's not bothering me as much now, cosmetically, but I'm disappointed that my cuticles aren't even groomed well, which is what I'd mainly gone to a nail tech for. I think the neighbors come here mainly for facials and full body massage, so perhaps try that instead. read more

Basic mani and pedi. My hands are often covered in mud and the soil embedded under my nails. I don't fuss about my nails but I do prefer my cuticles to not be cracked and dry. Today seemed like a good day to get my hands and feet neatened up to start the new year. This salon is immaculate and has quiet, calming energy. read more

Cannot say enough wonderful things about Julie! I came for a (late) Mother's Day treat with the 90 minute CBD pain relief massage and WOW. Julie managed to workout tensions I didn't even realize I was carrying in my body. I left genuinely feeling like I had gotten a little wave of miracle magic massaged over me. I've come here several times for a variety of treatments. I can't say enough good things about their massages and facials- I will not go anywhere else for those! Their manicures and pedicures are decent but you could definitely go elsewhere for the same quality. The only reason I'm taking a star off is because they don't have legit pedicure chairs. It's a regular (though very comfy) chair you sit in and they wheel a little plastic foot tub over for you to soak your feet in. It's great in theory, but the wheels make it hard for the tub to stay still while your feet are propped up. I had to physically hold my feet up on the tub the entire time and it turned out to be an uncomfortable experience instead of relaxing. All in all, Tao spa is a great gem in the Five Points area, and the owner is really kind and you can tell she cares a lot about her customers! read more

My mom and I visited Tao day Spa this week, and we were both thrilled with our gel manicures and massage. We opted for the shoulder trigger point massage and reflexology. I also got my eyebrows waxed, and I love the artistry of the shaping. The interior is clean, comfy and well-decorated. Plenty of color options for nails. The ladies were both kind and friendly. If you come during Covid times, masks are worn and appointments well spaced, so it's not crowded. I definitely recommend! read more

This is a great locally owned small business in Raleigh! Bing and Van & their whole team were great! They're only accepting reservations right now and have a max capacity of 5 clients at a time which I LOVE because, COVID-19. We indulged in the couples spa day package which did not disappoint! Everything was sanitized and opened fresh, and the staff wore masks at all times. They really took the time to make sure we were comfortable during our entire visit. I was off of work last week and I spent most of my time prepping our house for renovations. This was the treat I planned for myself. My esthetician came highly recommended and she did not disappoint. She was very knowledgeable about skin and women of color. I could go on a long rant about how hard it is to find someone who is educated, but I won't. My skin still looks and feels amazing. I upgraded to the iPhone 12 the other day. And you know what that big beautiful zoom lens showed me? Momma needs a facial, ASAP. I was able to be fit in the same day I called which I really appreciated, and their prices are reasonable for sure. Don't let the nail salon vibe in the front throw you. The rooms for the massages and facials have a heavy barn door and once the lights are dimmed and the relaxation music is playing, the environment is exactly what you need to relax. A definite plus was the neck and shoulder massage that came along with the classic facial. They do have reserved free parking on the side of the entrance, so be on the lookout because I drove by it not noticing at first. I booked 2 massages (WEEKS in advance) for my sister and I for her 30th birthday. We live out of town, so I planned a day in Raleigh and the massages were the main part of her gift/our day. Someone called me 2 HOURS before our appointment and told me only one of us could get a massage that day. I can understand that things happen, however we were not offered any other services nor did I ONCE get an apology for what was a huge inconvenience to our day. I had a full service scheduled for my wife's birthday (massage, facial, mani&pedi). The aesthetician, massage therapist, & nail technician were great. Thank you ladies for making my wife's birthday special. The front desk person was unpleasant. I called ahead before we arrived to let them know we'd be a few mins late and I wanted to be respectful of any late policy that they had. We were 7 min late and waited 10min bf she came up front. One of the nail techs left her client to check us in and get us started on the form after we sat there for a while. Then as we were filling out the initial form the front desk person , who finally came out, informs us that out time had started so the longer we were there the less time we'd have. #1 that wasn't mentioned when I called & #2 she wasn't even there when arrived. My wife also mentioned that she was less than pleasant while she was there though I can't speak on that as I wasn't there. There are some other subtle things that I won't mention but all & all my wife said that she enjoyed her day there. But I hate that the experience was tarnished by one person. read more

I am so happy I found this place (through Groupon). The owner Bing is such a sweet and genuine person. Her spa place is so clean, very nicely decorated and is spacious. I just had the best experience here. I started off with an hour deep tissue massage, a facial, and mani/pedi. I am so relaxed and what a treat for me. Bing and June took such great care of me and we had such great conversation. The spa is so well decorated and super clean. Never did I feel uncomfortable being in this spa, getting these services done, thinking they weren't doing all they could to uphold the cleanliness standards we all need to abide by at these times. I had one of the best massages I've ever had from Tao Day Spa. The atmosphere, free wine, and most importantly the treatment given solved a few weeks of soreness. I would highly recommend if you need relief for muscle pain. If you're in the Raleigh area, make it a point to stop here for a Spa day, you will not regret. Very accommodating for me and my friend's for a bridal shower. They do really good work and take a lot of pride in accuracy and presentation. The only thing was they allowed a customer to be inside without a mask while literally everyone else wore a mask and was mask compliant. She tells me she's "running behind" and after 20 minutes of waiting she hadn't even started the polish on the previous client. My experience here was okay. Wasn't somewhere I'd visit again but wasn't a horrible one. I received a gift card from my boyfriend which paid for a signature mani/pedi. The place is super cute and I'm sure has a lot of potential. The nail technician didn't seem like she was very confident in her work or herself. I felt like she didn't give me the full treatment I had requested. Barely did any massage on either my hand or my feet. Didn't soak my nails before treating them, didn't clean under my cuticles and kept having to reshape my nail after applying the gel polish. They have foot baths that have wheels so every time my foot would relax, the bath would nearly fall over or scoot away from the technician. I had to physically hold up my leg so much that my muscle started to have a spasm as she was applying the nail polish. Came here for relaxation and I just felt like I was barely cared for and rushed out the door. Would come back if they invest in better foot baths and would make sure their technicians know what they're doing read more

Appointment was booked on Thursday Christmas Day at 10:19PM for just the massage (wanted to hold spot just in case I couldn't book package on the 26th when the spa opened and website says to call for package deal. On December 26 the day of the appointment I called MULTIPLE times about 20 or more with no answer also left a voicemail because I wanted the package deal this was all for my girlfriends birthday. With no answer I went to the spa thinking maybe they are busy. This was about 1-2 hours before the appointment. When I got to the spa it was closed have picture of the sign and shop showing closed no one was there. I sat at the shop for maybe another 30 minutes and also called a few times again because I wanted to make sure everything was in order. No response was received 10 minutes after her appointment was suppose to be begin that Julie was waiting for her at the shop. I explained the situation and that I would no longer like the service because of the situation I just explained and I had already booked somewhere else. They were not understanding at all and kept referring to the 24 hour cancellation which was not possible as the appointment was booked at 10:19 PM on Christmas Day. My card was still charged $75 cancelation/no show and all they were willing to do was reschedule but not return $75 and kept referring to 24 hour policy and that someone was there which once again the sign said closed, lights off, no one was at the spa. This was not at all a good impression for how business is ran at this spa. I even was going to reschedule but $75 had to be returned. Between having to call over 25 times with no answer and leaving a voicemail and not receiving a callback until after the appointment time. I do not recommend this place to ANYONE. read more
