First time visiting this fairly new place and I liked it a lot. Food: Tasty and healthy, and not like regular dinner Thai food. But the spices are strong and unmistakable. I had the chicken Sai Oua, with Thai Beignets on the side (dipping into sweet condensed milk) and a bottomless cup of coffee. Vibe: Beautifully designed seating for a relatively small place. Lots of room for twos, and a good nook and dining room for bigger parties. Feels comfortable while being cozy. The guest wi-fi is not up yet, but they're planning for it to be. Got there before 12:30 pm on a Sunday and was seated after about 10-15 minutes for a table of 2. Was able to find street parking really fast but can vary since it is near a neighborhood. Only critiques were there were too many flies inside. The Grilled Pork Jowl was a little too charred for my personal taste. Hands down one of my new favorite spots in the Bay! Popped in for a latte and mango Matcha and couldn't resist ordering the Thai beignets, all of which were INCREDIBLE. We were also treated to a Jasmine Thai Chia Bowl which was just the cherry on top. The items we tried were not overwhelmingly sweet (which I usually expect from brunch spots and was pleasantly surprised by- I typically avoid sweet food/drinks), but rather accentuated the natural flavor profile of the items perfectly. I love the energy and ambiance of this place, it's small but it's also sunny and bright. It doesn't feel too crowded considering how much space there is and our waiter was very knowledgeable and accommodating. My partner is gluten intolerant and dairy intolerant and the waiter already knew all the dishes she could eat. Despite the dietary restrictions they still had a lot of dishes she could try out! The food itself was amazing! Both the pork belly skillet and the vegan lava egg were decently sized and packed with a lot of flavor. The lava eggs were reminiscent of a Japanese Omu-rice and the skillet was like a south East Asian style curry fried rice. Took my wife and Dad to Tanzie's for brunch and we had a great time! We started with Thai beignets, served hot with a side of condensed milk for dipping....kinda malasada-esque (aloha)...I had them with an oat milk cortado. Dad ordered a fruit salad dressed with a fish sauce dressing; He thought the sauce was a tad strong bit it was quite tangy and tasteful - if you're not sure maybe see if they put the sauce on the side. My wife and I both ordered lava eggs - their house specialty - one with the beef shank, one with the pork jowl.....both were delicious and you could definitely taste the Thai-influenced flavors. The eggs are served over white or brown rice and paired well with your choice of protein. The menu is decidedly brunch centric so you should take a look at the menu to make sure it matches your expectations. The flavors were all on point, perfect portioning and served to order.... To be clear, this a Thai-influenced place not necessarily a Thai restaurant....no pad Thai here, lol. You could taste Thai flavors throughout the dishes - Thai chilies, lemongrass, fish sauce....we lived in Southeast Asia for a couple years and it was great to taste the strong flavors of the region- brought back many fond memories of how good the food is in that part of the world. The service was great; very friendly and while the restaurant is small, we enjoyed the ambiance and didn't feel crowded, etc. The cortado I had was quite good and I'm sure their other coffee drinks would also be served with the same care/attention of a nice coffeehouse. We arrived around 1115am so we probably beat the midday crowd; I would imagine this place gets busy on the weekends so you might have to wait. Parking is on the street so you might have to drive around a bit; for me, I can always use the extra steps, lol. We enjoyed our meal and will definitely be coming back again soon! read more

I had the most wonderful time at Tanzie's. Though it is small they've decorated beautiful with a fire place and comfortable chairs. The service was fantastic and food even better. We tried their pork sausage with lava eggs and pork jowl and both were amazing in their own ways. I loved the cup of Nam Tao Hu, just as described it tasted like a warm hug from mom. Tanzie's is a cozy Thai-fusion brunch spot that you should definitely try! My friends and I stopped by for weekend brunch, and immediately noticed how small the restaurant was as our party of 4 took up the whole front entrance trying to get our names on the waitlist. About 3 staff members passed by us before the owner finally spotted us and added us to the waitlist. I definitely think that they could add the waitlist to the front counter to help simplify this process as I saw other parties also struggle to get their names on the list. It wasn't a long wait until we were seated, and I was immediately comfortable at our table with the abundance of natural light, plants and cottage-feel of the interior making it feel really cozy. Since they have a small menu, it didn't take long for our table to get our orders in. I ordered the Jin Nung Nam Prik Kha, iced Jasmine Thai tea and the Thai beignets to share. The Thai beignets were something that I never tried before, and they are more of a Chinese donut (although less airy) texture than an American beignet. The iced Jasmine Thai tea was a bit too sweet and floral for my taste, but it wasn't terrible. The Jin Nung Nam Prik Kha was comforting and tasty. I love having rice for breakfast/brunch, so having that with a creamy lava egg and meat was delicious! The lava egg was nicely salted and buttered, and had a coconut-y aftertaste. we wanted to try this place for father's day since it had such great reviews. The food was nicely presented. the server told us about the specials and we decided to order 2 specials which consisted of lava eggs with scallops and 1 lava eggs with sausage. overall the food was good. the shocker was when we got our bill. the special with the scallops was $40 each for a total of $80. we had 3 drinks and 1 appetizer. our bill for 3 people was over $200. this was absurd for eggs and rice and very few scallops. we were very disappointed that this was not disclosed to use since it was not on the menu. I would recommend that the server disclose the price when offering specials that is more than double the price of the other entrees. too expensive for us to return. read more

This venue is absolutely adorable. The food is very tasty and a delightful change of what one would normally get at a breakfast place--outside of Bangkok, of course! The one thing I would like to see more of on the menu are pescatarian or vegetarian options. There is a vegan dish that can be made vegetarian which is good and the staff is very accommodating about minor changes to ingredients though so don't keep that from stopping you from visiting -just be prepared for a crowd as it gets busy with good reason. Such a great brunch spot! We tried them about a month after their opening and I really enjoyed their food! We got the pork belly and pork cheek rice dishes. The pork cheek was my favorite but the pork belly was also delicious. But if you have a low spice tolerance be wary of the spicy dishes- they are actually spicy, which I loved! long wait but worth it. we had 5 people and four of us ordered the pork jowl lava egg meal and one friend got the nam prik ong(not pictured). the pork jowl was pretty good but not my preferred texture. i really enjoyed the nam prik ong, it was tasty and had a little kick. the matcha w strawberry and lychee was underwhelming but it was very cutesie. we also got watermelon juice and the seasonal juice which was the canary melon juice and they were okay. we had very mixed opinions. out of all the drinks i liked the melon one the most. we got thai beignets and they were so good that we ordered a second batch-- i do wish they served a bit more condensed milk but its okay. we got to meet miss tanzie herself and she was such a sweetheart. service was AMAZING- i forgot the staff members name but i felt so seen by him- he was so attentive and just overall a doll. i want to come back forsure to try other items. cannot wait! read more

This place has been getting a lot of buzz, w/ write-ups in the Chronicle and in Nosh, so I was concerned that we might need reservations today but when I called to check I was told we wouldn't. Nina and I met while parking around the corner on the street west of Sacramento that intersects Dwight. Parking was complicated by Berkeley's bins out on the street for pickup, but we both found spots and walked over the the restaurant together. We walked in and I was surprised to find it full. I should have specifically asked when I called about the inside, but I didn't. They have a lot of outside searing and umbrellas to protect you from the sun, which is what we were offered. It was pleasant out, warm but not hot, breezy but not chilly. The majority of the outdoor seating is in the parklet that used to belong to Homemade Café. I sat on the wooden bench w/ my back to the street. Nina sat on a chair facing me. I haven't been in this space since it housed Digs Bistro. Digs was a special occasion restaurant for Alan and me. Before that it was À la Carte. I'm not sure Alan and I were there together but he thought so and I will defer to his memory. Digs Bistro closed due to a divorce, I think, and the space became a succession of Thai restaurants. We never visited them because we had good Thai restaurants much closer to home. But enough history. Our server was Jimmy, the man who had greeted us when we walked in and who had answered the phone when I called. He was very protective of me as an old lady w/ a cane and I appreciated that. I was interested in the Lava Eggs after reading the articles about Tanzie's. I was curious about the spice level of the sausage and I asked Jimmy if it were possible to taste a small sample so I could gauge the heat level. He told me regretfully that they couldn't offer samples of the sausage. Given that, Nina and I both ordered the Lava Eggs w/ brown rice and pork jowl, w/ beignets added. I forgot to order tea to drink so when the beignets were delivered I requested some of Tanzie, hot Thai tea w/ a little sweetened condensed milk. Unfortunately we consumed the beignets before I thought to take a picture, but you can see how beautiful the tea was. The Lava Eggs were delivered a while later. We were surprised to cut into them and discover white rice rather than brown. I assumed somehow the message got lost between our table and the kitchen but when writing this review my attention was caught by another review that mentioned that happening to their party on Sunday. It should have been mentioned to us and when we return we will ask about it specifically when we order. Aside from that misstep, lunch was marvelous. The pork jowl was very flavorful and a pleasure to eat. The eggs were good and the rice was fine. Brown rice is healthier. Tanzie's is worth the trip across town for lunch/brunch because the food is unlike anything closer to El Cerrito. read more

Put our name on waitlist via Yelp so we're seated right away. They were busy so food took a while to come but was SO worth the wait. My daughter and I split a plate of pork jowl - not a lot of meat but the quality was superb. And their omelette on top of rice was so tasty we should have ordered two and taken one home. It was clear we were forgotten as a server walked by, looked at our table, and look confused. And we do appreciate the servers and wanted to leave a tip, but seeing auto calculated tips starting at 20%, especially after such a long wait and being overlooked, is very disappointing. Glorious! A wonderful neighborhood gem specializing in Chiang Mai, Northern Thai, brunch. Wonderful people, with a welcoming feel, the food is (add your favorite superlative). We tried the Chia Bowl which was very fresh and light with some surprises like gooseberries and unripe green olives. The star for me was the skillet fried rice with pork with a richness that had us humming appreciatively after every bite. The Sai oua sausage is ridiculously good and makes me sad for vegans.
