Hidden gem in jtown! Staff are so friendly and attentive and the ambience is very cute. The curry katsu with rice was huge and super flavourful. Also tried the taro chips and their chicken sando which came with a salad and a generous portion of fries. Overall good spot and would go again!
The food was absolutely fantastic. I had a take out order and the food took a little bit, but that tells me they are making it up fresh. The inside of the restaurant was nicely decorated and comfortable.
Came on a Saturday for lunch. We were seated right away, but there was a line up not long after we sat down. The food is very unique, which make sense since it's a fusion restuarant. The seafood doria sorted of reminded me of a seafood chowder, but there's a layer of rice at the bottom which helps balance the creaminess of the top. The udon and karage both had unique flavours that were very good. The karage was not deep fried, which I enjoyed as well. Most of the things on the menu you don't see at other Japanese restaurants, so I would come again to try different things The one thing was that it was somewhat cold when we went so I had my jacket on to keep warm.
After doing more browsing than shopping at J-Town (the downside of being an out-of-town visitor staying at a nearby hotel), I found myself suffering from a serious case of hunger. Looking at all the incredible food and ingredients without a kitchen to use was pure torture. Enter Tanuki, and the one thing I had been craving: omurice. I'm a self-admitted egg slut. For those unfamiliar, omurice is a Japanese comfort food consisting of fried rice wrapped or topped with a soft, delicate omelet, usually finished with a sauce or gravy. It's the perfect combination of fluffy egg, savory rice, and rich sauce, and when done properly, it's pure comfort. The omelet here was cooked perfectly; soft, silky, runny, and exactly what you want from omurice. The rice and gravy, however, were a little underwhelming on their own. That is, until I discovered the mysterious sprinkle sitting on the table. No label. No explanation. Just a little container of magic. Sure, I could have asked what was in it, but honestly, that would have taken away some of the fun. Once sprinkled over the omurice, it transformed the dish completely, taking it from average to something surprisingly memorable.
Delicious food, nice atmosphere, patio space on good days makes this a great spot for brunch. We ordered the Duck Ramen which includes Seared duck breast, ramen egg, ginger scallion relish. And the second order we had the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict which they say is Now smoked in-house! Brioche bun, house smoked salmon, spinach, hollandaise, salad, home fries. Very enjoyable food and price is reasonable! Will return! Please check this spot out!!
Service is impeccable as always. They're attentive and not in your face. Seafood doria was essentially the same as the classic Hong Kong baked seafood rice with cheese. It was very filling! Their katsu had a little too much batter for my liking but I was told it was filling too. The vibe was casual and trendy. It's a good place for snacks and lunches. We've been here a few times so it's def worth coming back for! I'd have liked if they had more fruity drink options :) or more loose leaf teas
Located in J-Town this is a Izakaya styled restaurant but the menu offers quite a diverse offering than your regular small plates. They also supply the hot food items that can be found at the bakery (bakery Nakamura) in the same complex. The interior is older and shows. On weekends they have a brunch menu that includes items that are only available on the weekends. What was ordered: Chicken katsu with gravy and eggs on rice Seafood Doria Omurice Buttermilk pancakes (only available on weekends) The food was good. Decent portion sizes and good flavour. The issue was that it took a long time for us to get our food and it wasn't that busy when we arrived. We waited a good 30 minutes and then 2 out of the 5 dishes arrived. About 10 minutes later the rest of our order arrived. I would give this a 3.5. It's not quite a 4 due to the service.
**3.5** Came here for brunch on Sunday around noon and luckily got a table before it got busy. My partner and I ordered the chicken and waffles (hk egg waffle) and the omurice. From looking around, it seemed like these are the two most popular dishes. The omurice egg was the perfect consistency, but I wish they gave us a sharper knife to get the clean slice. Otherwise, I found the rice quite bland and it wasn't a very special dish. My partner however did enjoy the chicken and waffle. Having the chicken on an HK egg bubble waffle was quite genius and it worked well. Overall, a decent place for brunch in J-town.
It does get really busy here, so I recommend going early! I was told it was going to be a 45 min wait but surprisingly I only had to wait about 10-15 mins. All the food we got was amazing, no complaints about the taste! Everyone was so freshly made, the pork belly was a thick cut as well. Kaki fry as this delicious aioli to dip it in!
I've been seeing videos on the internet of people eating omurice for a while, so when I found out a restaurant in J-town was serving up the same, I knew I had to check it out for myself. We arrived around lunchtime on a recent Saturday and the place was already about half full. I knew what I want for my main, but I figured we should grab an appetizer to start. We asked our server what she recommended and she suggested the Seared Duck Breast ("served medium rare, chimichurri, garlic chips"). It arrived a little while later and sure looked impressive. It's great. The duck breast has been cooked perfectly and it's enhanced with that delicious, zesty chimichurri and the punchy garlic chips. I could eat that dish all day every day. But the main attraction was, of course, the Omurice ("soft omelette, chicken fried rice, shiitake, edamame, gravy"). It arrived to the table looking like a picture-perfect example of the concoction, and of course I sliced it open and watched as it unfolded itself atop the rice. I added the included gravy and began eating. This is one delicious dish. I enjoyed everything about it, from the perfectly-cooked omelette to the rich, flavorful gravy to the tasty rice. So if you find yourself scrolling through Omurice videos and you want to taste it for yourself, Tanuki is the place to go.
Have been wanting to try their brunch for a while and was very pleasantly surprised. Food was extremely tasty and you can tell they are making it fresh. Plating was very thoughtful and pleasing to the eye. Staff were welcoming and whiling to answer any questions about the menu. Their seafood chowder by itself is enough to make me want to return again but pancakes were also very special and the portion of their eggs Benedict was quite substantial. Hoping to visit again soon.
Cute spot in the heart of J-town for brunch! Here's what we ordered for 2 people: Drinks: * Kitsune Milk Tea (cold) $6 - 7/10 * Matcha Latte (cold) $6 - 7.5/10 Mains: * Omurice $20 - 7/10 * Seared Duck Benedict $20 - 8/10 Dessert: * Matcha Red Bean French Toast $15 - 7/10 We did have to wait a little bit maybe 20-25mins. They send you a text when your table is ready! Service was great, super friendly staff. We didn't wait too long for our food and they've got daily specials on the board. Love the R&B vibe of their playlist. We'll definitely be back to try their other items.
I want to like this place but it's either catered to the canto taste or just soulless. We came here on a whim for a Mother's Day lunch and it was quick to get a table. Based on the vibe I was pretty excited to try some trendy Japanese food but everything was downhill from there. We ordered the pork belly ramen, matcha latte, shrimp cream pasta, karaage, grilled shishito peppers and hojicha latte. Unfortunately they were out of shishitos and offered their Brussels sprouts instead. Pork belly ramen was bad. Possibly the worst ramen of my life. The pork belly was pan fried with a thick crust that absorbed soup and became this hard gelatinous layer. Also unseasoned so... not great. The broth was some kind of beef stock with maybe anise? Either way it was also a bit underseasoned. The noodles were the biggest offender by being so over cooked. It was like the pasta you get at old school HK cafes (overcooked mush). 1/10 Shrimp pasta was the same as the ramen. Overcooked mush. Flavour could have used some seasoning 4/10 Brussels sprouts were a disappointment. It needed some acid or a sauce/dip on the side. It was legit just deep dried with sesame seeds on it. Maybe light seasoning but all I got was bitterness from the frying. 2/10 Karaage was the best part but still not great. The sauce must have been sitting for a while because it was soggy and not crisp. Flavour was good though. Nice chicken flavour with sweetness from whatever sauce was on it. 6/10, could be 8/10 if it didn't sit and get soggy. Matcha latte was ok, nothing special. A light matcha flavoured milk. 5/10 Iced Hojicha latte was also ok. It was strangely thick but not a concentrated flavour. Also had chunks of tea leaves in it, so not great. 4/10, actively did not enjoy this but not offensive. Overall I dont recommend this place. It gives off a cool vibe but the food is so soulless and lightly seasoned that I feel like it was intentionally done that way to attract the canto crowd in the area.

First time visiting Tanuki restaurant in J-Town and was pretty impressed. Was hesitant to get take-out brunch, but needed my fix and decided to try Tanuki's brunch-to-go menu. A new brunch-to-go menu comes out every weekend. What attracted us to their menu was their asian twist on typical brunch dishes. We love trying out restaurants like this. Not sure if it was just the weekend we went, but the menu for that weekend came out either very late on Friday night or super early Saturday morning, so we didn't have much time to review the menu before ordering. The brunch-to-go menu is pretty small, with only 4-5 main items. We decided to get the Tanuki breakfast and the portobello eggs benedict, which were both pretty good. We were able to enjoy our brunch still warm, which is amazing because it's the main reason why I was hesitant to get take-out brunch. Loved the taro hash that came with both dishes! So different, yet delicious. We felt healthy eating both of these dishes because of the veggies in them like peppers, tomatoes and portobello mushrooms. Plus, they weren't greasy! Overall, we would def try this place again for their brunch menu as well as their regular menu. read more

The best Omurice I ever had! The egg was super soft and fluffy, and a little runny on the inside. It also came with chicken fried rice, edamame, and demi-glace sauce which was pretty good. The same cannot be said for the Tonkatsu Curry - although the tonkatsu itself was nice and crispy, the curry was a bit bland. Overall, still pretty good. Location/Service This place replaces what used to be Shiso Tree - so it's right inside J-Town corner spot, beside the new H-Mart Supermarket. Indoor dining is not available right now - but they will be doing patio seating in the future. I like how they like to add as much ways to serve customers - by either expanding patio, offering takeout via various foodapps and even providing some grab-n-go options that's available inside the bakery. Food I ordered their food via Skipthedishes - and it came pretty on time (within 30 minutes or so). They had a deal recently where you get a free snack if you order a certain amount of $. Ended up ordering a hamburger steak and taro chips, that came with a free lotus root chip. The hamburger steak came with rice, sunny side egg and okra. The beef patty a little dry, but it had very good sauce to compliment and to mix it in with the rice and okra. The egg was top notch - overall, it gave a very comforting meal - a little bit of a Loco Moco style to it. The two chips were pretty standard - very addictive. Both were done to a nice crisp. Good quantity - the lotus root was a little bit on the saltier side, but overall was great! read more
The Christmas feast we ordered was a hit! It was a meal for 4 and the staff also accommodated splitting the meal into two so we could deliver a meal for two to our parents. Loved the turkey roulade, beet salad, side veggies, stuffing, cranberry sauce and the chestnut-chocolate yule log! The only downside is that the stuffed baked potatoes we a bit burnt and hard. Will go back to support their brunch soon! read more

This is a great brunch spot in J Town! I like how inventive the menu is and changes up every weekend. When I went I had the keylime pancakes. The flavour was really great! Service was fast and friendly. The store has a really unique vibe to it too, I'd definitely want to visit again! read more

Finally came to this place. Lots of social distancing inside the restaurant. Outside patio is nice too. So I chatted with one of the employees, turns out the owner did some re-branding of Shiso Tree and not a total change. So just a heads up. Anyhow, I called earlier the day to see if I needed to get a reservation. They said just walk in. So we did that. We got here just after 7 and noticed the outdoor patio area was filled with people. And we also saw people sitting inside. We decided to stay inside as the sky looks grey around the evening time. The venue hasn't changed much in terms of decor. Furniture remained the same too. We were browsing the menu and noticed the menu has shrunk, but in a good way. So we decided to grab the bathing phoenix chicken karaage, Brahms Lullaby Hamburg Steak and the Pork Tonhkatsu Curry. The chicken karaage came out first, and the first observation we had was... there's a chicken feet in this dish?! A very traditional dim sum item. However, the chicken karaage isn't some dim sum dish for sure. The chicken was very juicy and the overall texture was not too over fried. We both love this dish, it's dramatic in presentation and the taste is flavourful not overly done. Very nice job. The slaw at the base of the dish was very well made too, not over sour with the dressing and still kept some crunch. The hamburg steak came out next and at first, I wondered what does this dish represent. However, once I dipped into the sauce, it's savoury, it has subtle bitterness? But not overpowering at all. The steak was still juicy and not dry. Mix it in with the rice and it tasted amazing. Then the pork tonhkatsu curry came out. At first, I thought... oh just another curry dish. But the curry flavour is NOT the typical Japanese curry. Rather, the curry flavour reminded me of South Asian curry dish. It's more aromatic and there's a hint of sour note in the curry. This was a pleasant surprise. Also the pork isn't dry, rather it's juicy and it is a thick cut of pork loin. Very nicely made. Overall experience is excellent. Coming back for sure to try other stuff. read more
Came here on a snowy Sunday Service was slow even though there were empty tables we didn't get any service for the first 15 min after being seated and we had to wave them down for a bit. The taro chips is good, and cheap. Tried the beef tongue stroganoff special $20 comes with a drink, I ordered the the tanuki coffee. Tanuki is a newly opened Japanese fusion restaurant located at J-Town where Shiso Tree used to be. I went to try out their brunch menu over the weekend when they opened and I had a great experience. We sat at the patio dining space at the courtyard and it's very nice as it's naturally shaded. From their regular menu we got the Tanuki Slaw and Samurai Samaroo Chicken Sando, and on the limited time special brunch menu we got the Snow Crab Eggs Benedict and Alaskan Wild Cod Cake. The Tanuki Slaw features a mix of crunchy seasonal veggies with crispy taro chips and is a great appetizer, especially for the summer. It really got my taste buds tingling and it's a nice palette cleanser between dishes. Samurai Samaroo Chicken Sando is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I like how chunky the chicken patties are and this dish will definitely fill you up. I love cutting into the perfectly poached egg on the Snow Crab Eggs. They use real snow crab meat and the brioche bun sets this dish apart from other eggs bennys that I've tried recently. The Alaskan Wild Cod Cake is another very yummy brunch dish to try especially if you're a big fan of crab cakes. It's light and crispy while very soft on the inside, and the slaw is a nice complement to the crab cake Highly recommend checking this new restaurant out. In terms of the atmosphere it's nice to sit outside and listen to the sound of the water falls. However, i would suggest coming on a hot or warm day when it's not too cold outside. New place located in J Town where Shiso Tree used to be. But rather than japanese pastas, there's a variety of dishes available - rice, pasta, pork knuckle, sandwich, and more! During these COVID times, they're offering outdoor patio and indoor seating. Tables are safely spaced apart. The food that we ordered was a bit disappointing. Omurice: Egg itself was a bit too overcooked. Chicken fried rice had tons of mushrooms in it but the chicken was no where to be seen. Beef demi glace didn't really add much to the overall dish. However, the portion size was quite large. Cod cakes with slaw: This was alright. Freshly fried. But nothing special. The cod cakes could have used a little bit less potato in it. Price - Decently priced items for the portion. Service was nice. The food took a little bit longer than expected to come out. read more
Located at steeles and 404, this restaurant provides some delicious modern Japanese cuisine. Service is quick and friendly. The fish moriawase has 12 pieces: 4 each of a beet pickled salmon - salty with a hint of sweet, tender salmon. Sesame seed encrusted tuna - lean but fresh fish, sesame seeds add a nice flavor. Finally charred mackerel which is my favorite with the fatty, fish flavor. Great dish - 5/5 Fisherman's wife seafood croquette - tons of delicious seafood flavor - not exactly sure but felt like I definitely tasted some shrimp, crab and fish. Lightly breaded but great crispy outside. Soft and savory potatoes with seafood flavor. Sits on a bed of fresh slaw. Croquette is 5/5, the slaw is heavy on cucumbers which I think creates a lot of water and dilutes the flavor. Still very refreshing. Chicken karage- This is a pretty large portion. The chicken has a nice crispy exterior. Appreciate the lightness of the outside. Chicken is tender, decently moist. The chicken foot in the middle is a nice touch and has a strong sweet and spiciness to it. 5/5. Price: Actually pretty fair pricing for what you get in both quality and quantity. read more

Very charming place. The interior is nicely decorated. Was surprised it was not that filled up on a Thursday night. I had a mackerel appetizer, and then a omurice, while my friend had a tonkatsu curry. The omurice came with demi-glace sauce, and a nife to cut open the omelet and pour the sauce on, was delicious. The portion for the curry was quite generous. Would come back. read more

THIS IS THE NEW HOT PLACE TO GO! This is a local restaurant that are created by 2 local MARKHAME-RS! A restaurant that creates a modern take on Japanese comfort food! Before you order anything! Their food portion ARE HUGE!! So beware before over ordering, not saying its bad to over order~ but if you arent the type that can eat a lot, sharing is always the best option to 1. Try new things 2. Its fun to share! The karaage are fried chicken! 10/10! Soooo good! I cant stop eating them. Oh! And yes there is a chicken hand on the top and yes you can eat it! Give it a try, its actually really good! (Fyi: dont hesitate to ask for more mayo!) Pig knuckle is 4/5! not because it bad, the flavours wise 5/5! BUT ITS SOOOO BIG! Like OMGLOB! Literally bigger than two of my fist together! U literally need to either have 3 bowls of rice with it or share it with 2 people or bringing it home and having it for lunch tmr its super juicy and soft. If you love pork knuckle! This is the dish for you!! Yes it can be a bit $pricey, but its basically a 2-3 people portion! Oxtail dish is 4/5! Oxtail are super soft and flavourful! The sauce is very special. The sauce Taste kinda milky. Some people may like it some dont. If you like oxtail, i would say price wise and portion wise, this is the best you can get! Overall i would say if you have a small stomach, bring friends and order one main dish and 2 appetizer. If you have the stomach for all, definitely try the fried chicken, pork knuckle and the chicken sandwich (it was sold out the day we went, but reviews of this SANDWICH is off the roof!) So basically a compilation of pictures from when we've eaten here. If you've ever wanted to try Japanese fusion food this is your place to go. I'll say that the food we've tried here has been delicious. The curry Katsu is a favourite as it captures a blend of flavour- not your traditional Japanese curry, has a twist in flavour like a blend of if Indian curry and japanese curry had a baby. The karage is really good too! Honestly if you're there on a weekend, and something peaks your interest for the brunch menu...get it. The service is extremely bad and slow. We sat at the patio. After giving us the menu, no one came back to take our order. We tried to wave like crazy and no one inside noticed. And no one ever come out to check on other tables either. Then after may be 10 minutes, finally someone came. We ordered 4 dishes and a latte. The latte came after about another 10 minutes. 10 minutes to make a latte..... We then waited and waited and waited. Almost an hour has gone by and our food is still nowhere to be found. And the latte is cold already. Someone was taking food to another table and we frantically stopped her and asked her about our food. Another 10+ minutes later, our first dish came. The omurice. It was not piping hot. It was luke warm at best. Not acceptable. Then the rest came and they are hotter. By that time we had finished our glasses of water. And no one came to refill because no one bother to pay attention to the diners at the patio unless they were bringing out food or getting paid. The food was decent, but not worth the price. They surely LOOK good. I think this restaurant is more concerned with making food that is instagram-able then taste good. BUT, after the meal, we all get VERY thirsty. The food does not taste that salty at all. We suspect that it could be the excessive MSG that they use. Can't be sure though. Extremely bad and slow service + luke warm food + food taste only ok for that price (and made us all thirsty after) = we will not be going back any time soon (or at all) read more
I have been here many times, since the first time and every time since, the food has been amazing. The food has been big in portions, the Japanese rice itself taste awesome and with the right texture. Just for the plain rice alone is worthy the visit. The Service has been very attentive. The area is nicely situation in the middle of Jtown. An overall quiet area to enjoy the meal. I love this place, except the coffee is a bit too strong. However, I later learned that the coffee has unlimited refill, which would be wonderful to spend a good coffee break here. read more
Newest restaurant in J-Town in Markham. Glad I got to try out a few dishes during their soft opening. The names of the dishes are super catchy and presentation (even for takeout) is beautiful. You can tell they take the care and effort in their work. 1) Tanuki Slaw - My fave item on their menu! You can really appreciate the quality of ingredients that go in this dish. The fresh root vegetables pair so well with the crispy taro and vermicelli nest with the tasty dressing. Such a creative balance of textures. 2) Memories of Harambe Tonkatsu Curry - Not your typical Japanese curry. Really tasty and love the tahini glazed sweet potato and house pickled vegetables sides. A flavourful experience that's well balanced since you get the savoury, sweet, and sour from the components. 3) Buddha Palm Pig Knuckle - This was tied for my 2nd fave dish. Not many places offer a whole braised hock. The meat was so tender! The soft boiled eggs were also delicious as they absorbed some of that shoyu base. Ordered a few other dishes, but would highly recommend the 3 I mentioned above. Will I be back? Most definitely! (Have already gone back 4 times since then... 3 times takeout and 1 for dine-in). Wishing the best of luck to this restaurant who opened during these COVID-19 times. This place does Japanese-inspired food. The dishes are interesting but don't quite work. That said it's pretty good value & they keep tweaking the menu Karaage was a large portion. "Bathing phoenix" was not a joke - there was a chicken foot among the fried chicken. The Asian Slaw under the chicken was pretty tasty. The sauces were ok: kewpie mayo is always nice; bulldog sauce's predominant note was spicy. It was well fried so it was not greasy, but I didn't like the spices seasoning it. Some notes were vaguely like Taiwanese fried chicken, but it had an overall heaviness that didn't sit well with me. The cod cake was much bigger than the average cake. Yet, the tradeoff was it was not crispy (the vaguely Japanese sauce over it did not help). The tonkatsu curry was pretty big. The pork cutlet was large and pretty well fried & juicy. The curry tasted like a fusion of Japanese and Indian curries, yet not as good as either. read more
This is the new replacement for Shiso Tree Cafe! Although it is apparently still owned by the same people, the menu is quite different (much less pasta) and I was surprised at how the menu was generally pretty simple, which is nice because it's not too overwhelming. I tried the omurice at Tanuki, and I was pleasantly surprised by how it came with a piece of sweet potato and squash. The demi glaze and the egg went so well together, and the fried rice had mushrooms, chicken and edamame in it. I haven't had too many omurice dishes in the past, but this was definitely the best by far. I am giving the place 4 stars for now since I only tried one dish. Also, the prices for some dishes are quite steep ($17 for tonkatsu curry) so that's my other critique. But since it's a new establishment, I recommend checking it out!! read more

This spot replaces Shiso Tree Cafe in J-Town, serving Japanese comfort food. Heard about this spot through a friend and social media so decided to check it out for my first time eating out since March. They have an outdoor patio (along with inside dining), with tables spaced apart and staff all wearing masks. This is a walk-in only spot but managed to get a table outside at around 10:45 am Sunday on the patio. Food wise, I did appreciate the rotating selection of items for weekend brunch menu along with a set menu, which allows for some variety. Unfortunately some of the items (duck confit, cod cake, hayashi beef) were sold out/not available during our visit. Our party ordered either the omurice & the Moon's Spawn Salmon Eggs Benedict (I guess all of us had similar cravings that day). Omurice: Had a bite of this. The demi glace was not overpowering and the rice was cooked well. Wish there was a bit more topping within the rice. Eggs benedict: The eggs that I had were nice and runny with the bun holding up well. The smoked salmon and touch of seaweed sprinkles gave it a nice light flavour. The taro hash was a tad burnt/overdone. However the consistency seemed to be off as two others who also ordered this had overdone eggs which were not runny. nice place to check out and the food here is not too bad as well. i like how they use local ingredients from the stores within jtown! however, i do find the food here to be quite pricey. all of their mains are $20+, where you can find the same dishes at stores nearby for a fraction of the price. out of all the dishes, i would only recommend getting the tonkatsu curry as this one is the most bang for your buck (in my opinion). the curry is rich and the tonkatsu is very tender. i've tried other dishes here such as the omurice, shrimp yakisoba, chicken sando and pasta of the week (i believe it was a bolognese one that i had at the time) and they are all very mid. most dishes lacked flavour or would only taste like one ingredient. on the other hand, i find service here to be quite slow sometimes. i understand they can be busy and maybe short staffed, but the few times i've come to this restaurant, the waiters will always take their time for us to get a refill on water or getting the bill. we would have to call them a few times with the same question for them to actually get it done. read more

They have been really slipping recently. Great thought put in creative delicious items however failed execution. Extremely long wait times for brunch for both dine in and take out. Mistakes on orders multiple times. Always check your order before you leave. And expect to wait some more when you find the error. Most recently when I finally got my food the meat was raw!! Very disappointed. Not sure I am willing to go back after this. read more

Disappointed, this place used to be a restaurant serving delicious Japanese pasta by real Japanese people. Feel like a scam craving for real Japanese food in J-Town to get below par fusion food. Not to mention many of the food options seen on Yelps or Instagram are not available. read more

Our first time to J-town and arrive at 11 a.m. The parking lot is almost full and people are already around looking for lunch. We make our move fast to get one of the two tables left in this restaurant. We shared 2 bunches among 2 adults+1 kid. The portion is big and the food is tasty. Waitresses are polite. The only complaints are the drink (Momo Matcha) is way too sweet and the plates are dirty (some dried leftover). Will definitely come again. read more

Went here on a weekday for lunch. Didn't have to wait too long to be seated. Was craving the omurice as seen from their Instagram page and it did not disappoint! The rice was flavourful, egg was fluffy and sauce was on point. The shrimp yakisoba was very good too - nice stir fry flavour from the noodles. Portion sizes were good overall, quite filling. Service was great as well. Would 10/10 recommend, looking forward to come again soon! read more
Not only do I love their menu names but their food is also amazing. Portion sizes are very generous; I ordered the omurice, karrage, and house curry with 1 more person and we both had to get it packed to go. I also really liked the fact that their patio is tucked inside the area and not beside a parking or the street like most restaurants are. Just minimizes the amount of dust you're ingesting... Service was on the slow side and the food came luke warm, but the staff were very friendly and courteous. All the dishes we ordered were so good. The house curry was pretty interesting as it tasted more like butter chicken than Japanese curry. The omurice was veryyyy soft and velvety; I also liked how they added a bit of salted egg yolk for extra flavor and texture. The karaage was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, not dry at all. There were also some pieces of taro cubes on the bottom for some extra flavor and texture. Overall a nicely balanced restaurant. Prices are also fair. Only thing I hope to be improved on my next visit is the temperature of the food. Would definitely visit again. read more
We came for the $1 oyster Mondays and were pleasantly surprised. There is no minimum so enjoy it! It doesn't come with the typical horseradish or shrimp sauce, rather they provide pickled onions and hot sauce. Interesting and different take - not in a bad way. Oysters itself were wonderful and from NB. Got 20 to share. The tonkatsu curry was pretty good - we shared the plate and were full by the end of the night. Sake bombs were a must and were delicious. Great service. Just nothing that stands out for this restaurant. Though I haven't done their brunch and they change their menu every week so that is probably something I should try! read more

I came here for lunch with a friend on a week day. It wasn't busy at all and we were one of the handful of customers there, however there were many people getting take-out. First and foremost, the service is amazing! The waitress was super friendly and upbeat. She was very attentive and made sure that whenever we had any questions or requests, she would address them right away. The restaurant, itself, is very cozy. We sat on inside and it had sort of a coffee shop kind of aesthetic. I found the Japanese decorations and hand drawn menu adorable! The food was also great! I got the This Isn't Even My Final Samaroo Form Chicken Sandoo (LOVE the menu item names!) and I was pleasantly surprised by how large the portion was! I couldn't finish it and had to pack the rest for home. The fries were also extra crispy and well seasoned. My friend got the Memories of Harambe (LOL) Tonkatsu Curry and she said it had the perfect japanese curry flavour, and she also strugged to finish her large portion as well. Parking is rather easy there since it shares the parking lot with the rest of J-Town. Most customer of J-Town are htere to pick up groceries or take-out so the parking lots are fairly empty. I didn't have trouble finding parking at all. The restuarant is also easy to access through TTC, since it close to Victoria Park and Steeles. read more
