Service and ambiance - incredible, we sat out on the patio which is so cozy and they even turned on the heater for us because it was slightly chilly. Our waiter Simon was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. He made great recommendations and food was delicious! We ordered the cebiche trio, wagyu nigiri and red crab salad for starters and the cebiche was the standout . For mains we shared the arroz mariscos, arroz con pato and seabass special which were so flavorful- the best was definitely the arroz mariscos and the duck was fall of the bone tender! I went to Tanta for a celebration dinner with family. It was our first time back since the remodel. There are now these large booths that make you feel like you're on a sea shell! We shared some cebiche clásico, the fish was corvina, and it tasted citrusy and refreshing. Tanta recently added corazón anticuchos so we had to try. They tasted like steak medallions! This was my second visit to Tanta after a very long time! I absolutely love this place that offers good Vegetarian/ Vegan options for Peruvian food! We ordered a bunch of vegetarian food for the table to share: Empanadas, Broccoli Chifero, Quinoa Chaufa, vegetarian Empanadas and Yuca fries. Everything was SO GOOD! Empanadas was our favorite! Food was great and the place isn't overcrowded. Ceviches are great to share and taste amazing. Service is good and there were open bar seats during prime time on a Saturday night. Highly recommend the churrasco escobechado (steak). It was cooked perfectly, had a nice sauce, and the fried plantains and rice/potato type thing on the side were also good. I didn't need all the onions on the ends of the plate but easy to avoid. Bathroom is a ways away and downstairs from where I was seated up front but ultimately NBD. read more

My friend and I have been wanting to try Tanta for a while and we finally did a little bit ago. It's definitely a more expensive, fancier meal, but we really enjoyed ourselves. I don't think it's the best Peruvian food I've had, but it was an enjoyable meal and we were both glad we tried Tanta. The waiter we had was so warm and kind, and made such great recommendations / generally had good vibes. Our favorite by far was the tiradito apaltado. A recommendation from the waiter and he had great taste because this was so delicious. We also got a causa and some of the skewers as well as the fried fish wok stir fry (I am blanking on the name but starts with a c). Everything was yummy and we definitely had a bit leftover, which I thoroughly enjoyed when I ate it the next day. My friend is a fan of tres leches and so we got that for dessert and that was also yummy. Good, fun meal. read more

It's not great. Babe says the only thing that's worth the while is the Lomo Saltado, it was flavorful, the meat was cooked well and tasted authentic. The ambiance was a little dead and missed the mark, we really wanted to like this place since we live walking distance. one of the best happy hours I've found so far! the portions look small but are quite large and filling! We got all three drinks off of the happy hour menu: pisco sour, el chingon, and the chicha punch. The pisco sour was great- classic, refreshing taste. The el chingon was so spicy but works with the smokiness of the mezcal- they use rocoto peppers in the ice which starts to meld with the cocktail as it melts. The chicha punch was great- I love a good sangria and this did not disappoint! On to the food, we had the anticucho de pollo, yuquitas huancaina, crispy rice spicy tuna, and the cebiche limeno. Went there for restaurant week and we absolutely loved the empanadas! Both the corn and chicken one were good that we couldn't decide which we liked more. We also got the Pollo Chihaokay and Chaufita Aeropuerto. They were both tasty together! The Budin for dessert was okay but that's personal preference since I'm not too fond of desserts that taste a bit cinnamon-y but it would go well with coffee! Service was quick and friendly as well. Along with the excellent service (our waiter gave stellar recommendations), we loved everything. We shared a special sunchoke ceviche with generous chunks of fish and charred avocado. Got some yucca fries which were cooked perfectly, then came the beef heart skewers that tasted like complex ribeye, no odd flavor, covered in chimichurri served over little smashed potatoes. Busy with this restaurant on Saturday evening with 2 of my friends. My girlfriend made a reservations and we will promptly seated when we arrive. Our table was nice and right near the window so you could see a lot of activity going on grand Avenue while we dined. I feel like drinking menu was limited. we had to ask our server a lot about the making of the cocktails and they ingredients. It appears that they try to use as much Peruvian liquor is possible. After asking questions about the drinks we did put in order and our drinks came out promptly. I ordered the Fiesta de Manzana and it was very tasty. The Fiesta de Manzana presented like a martini and wasn't too sweet. For food we opted to get the full chicken dinner and the tasting of empandas. The chicken was just right the skin was very crispy and presentation of the salad and French fries were great. exactly what I expect of Peruvian chicken. We ask for a side of chimcherry and some hot sauce and those were provided and very excellent. The empanadas were OK, I wouldn't order them again. All in all a pretty good experience here I will say that we got good value out of being able to order the full chicken dinner and splitting it between 3 ladies. otherwise I think I would have been disappointed if I had just got the half chicken dinner for the price point. Décor and bathrooms were really nice at this location I downgrade it to 4 stars VS 5 because our server was snippy when we are checking out in regards to paying with credit cards. We wanted to pay with 2 credit cards and cash and it was kind of an issue. so he pressured us to just use one card which is fine. I just feel like this is your business and It should not be on the consumer to figure out how to use the credit card machine. In this day of age yes we can Zelle each other or pay pal each other but that's soon gonna come with tax repercussions. Therefore restaurants need to be a little bit more conscious about taking more than one card. It didn't appear that he couldn't he just thought it was too difficult. read more

I found Tanta while searching for a restaurant appropriate for a bachelor party I was hosting. My partner is obsessed with Peruvian ceviche. Booking a rooftop table on Open Table here was easy. Leading up to the day, I kept hearing good things from friends and even a Lyft driver. We showed up early for our reservation, figuring we'd get a drink if a table wasn't available. We were seated right away, though. The drinks were very good if a little pricey. The music was a tad loud but we could still hear each other fine. The service was excellent throughout; they hit that balance of attentive without being disruptive. The food was bursting with flavor as Peruvian food should be. They have a decent happy hour but they only allow those specials for bar seating so if you have more than 2 people you probably won't get a seat at the bar in the summer. If they expanded it to all the tables I would be much more inclined to come back. Okay I have been wanting to go here since they opened and it did not disappoint! We got a walk in around 6:15 on a Friday night for three. They have a pretty strict 90 minute seating policy which is a bit much, but whatever. Food was outstanding. It is all Peruvian cuisine and small plates share. They have larger mains, but we stuck with small plates. We had the chicken skewers, empanada trio, this vegetable dish (best thing we had tbh), yuca fries & fried rice. Everything was excellent and truly a great deal with the amount of food that you got for the price. I thought this would be one of those river places where you spend so much money and then immediately regret it. But I already want to come back when the rooftop is open for happy hour. The service was fine, but again we felt pretty rushed, which is what brought this down to a four star. The first floor of the restaurant is smaller than I anticipated but I feel the real star of the show here is the upstairs rooftop. I ordered a cocktail to start and since I was the only one that ordered a cocktail the waitress did not seem too happy about that. Came here for happy hour on a Friday and didn't have to wait long for a spot at the bar! Note that happy hour only takes place at the first floor bar and is first come first serve. However I love that the happy hours are pretty wide for dinner (5-7pm) on weekdays and includes Friday! We only ordered off the happy hour menu and the service was extremely speedy despite being busy! I also enjoyed the food, though it is on the pricey side. It's a deal compared to their regular menu but the restaurant is just more on the pricey side in general. That said it was yummy! We ordered: - Empanada de tamal (it was so good we ordered 2, so we could each have one) - Boliyucas (fried yucca balls) - Bao Chifero (crispy pork belly in a bao) - for drinks we got a pisco sour and el cholito Everything was super tasty! We made it in for their excellent happy hour and enjoyed a couple cocktails (HIGHLY recommend El Chingon) and small plates. What a wonderful gem we found in Tanta. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the bar was lively when we arrived. They immediately took us to our table and we were greeted almost immediately. Our server was super engaging and gave us great recommendations. Everything we ate and drink was out of this world. All of the seafood was incredibly fresh, perfectly cooked, and prepared. We started with a Royal Pisco and local Peruvian beer. For appetizers we had the ceviche trio, as well as some octopus, and house chips. We actually used the chips to eat the ceviche. Each one of the trio was very uniquely different, but we couldn't pick a favorite because they were all amazing. Fresh and well balanced, it's the best ceviche I've ever had. The seafood rice was eyes roll back in your head good. I want to come back again and again and taste everything on the menu. My only regret is that I don't live closer to Chicago. read more

Had been eyeing Tanta for awhile as it is one of Chicago's few Peruvian spots, and finally made it over for happy hour! The bar area is cozy and the bartender was very attentive and helpful. I appreciated that he confirmed allergies with everyone. I tried several bits & bites alongside the El Chingon, which was addictively spicy and sweet! Highly recommend their drinks. I really appreciated how fresh all of the food was, and presentation was beautiful across the board- I almost didn't want to eat it! The anticucho de pollo had a nice smokey flavor and sauce, but the potatoes and choclo were not seasoned. I wished there had been some extra sauce to add some flavor. The tequenos de pollo were super crispy and piping hot, but I felt that it could have been boosted with some extra spice or salt. The empanada de tamal was excellent- don't forget to squeeze the lime on top! Although some of the flavors were a bit on the bland side for my taste, the food here is fresh with a great atmosphere.
