Since moving to N. Haledon 35 years ago, WHENEVER I needed to repair ANYTHING @ my house, I always relied on Tanis Hardware. Greeting you immediately upon enter the store - & guiding you to the right (LARGE sections/selections) of just what was needed. Asking for 1 "part" (nuts, bolts, screws, washers, Etc., etc.), the necessary amount (rather, than the BIG 'chains'!), sell you packets (with MANY items in them), that 'sit around' in the workshop for years. This is a great local hardware store. Conveniently located and easily accessible. There's not a lot of space when you walk in, but they know how to maximize their space. They have everything you would expect a hardware store to have and more. You'd be surprised at all the things they have for your home projects. I've forgotten that I can go there for mulch and lumber. The best thing about Tanis is the people. I've been going there for years. As soon as you walk in, somebody will great you and help you find whatever it is your looking for. They will talk to you about what it is you need to help you make a good choice. Great old school hardware store. One of the few left in the area. Don't let the small storefront fool you. They have a substantial selection. The store is very will staffed. Someone is always waiting near the door to help you or point you in the right direction. They must be doing everything right. I do not know of any other hardware store that will give you this much attention to get the help you need. An employee will walk you to your item in need, if the person helping you is unsure of how to help you, they ask another staff member that knows. At tanis, you will not get the huff and puff attitude you get at some supply houses. They are there to help, and this is what I love about this place. Big box stores do not care about customer service like tanis does. Another reviewer wrote about prices. I cannot go with their review. Why? I check online prices, and tanis has, at or better pricing. Without doubt, Tanis is a treasure. We live in Franklin Lakes and it's a straight shot to Tanis. What both I and my husband know is that whatever we need, whatever question we have, Tanis will have the answer. When you walk in, there's always someone right there to ask you what you are looking for. No need to hunt anyone. Then they'll take you right to the place to find the replacement. If you walk in and have a piece of something and a puzzled look because you don't have a clue what to do, they'll get right to business, asking questions and more often than not, devising some neat way to work around whatever you have. This hardware store is right down the street from me so I decided to come here for some nails. I wasn't sure about what hardware would work best to hang up my pictures, so I asked the saleswomen. She took me to the "nail area" and proceeded to help me out. She was very friendly and helpful by explaining to me the different weights that the nails hold. Even though they were a little more expensive than the Home Depot, I would still come here to purchase items here and there, solely because of the attentiveness of my saleswoman. This place is such a scam! I went there after my neighbor recommendation. I was new to the area and needed to pick up some items for a washer and dryer. I told the salesperson and she walked me over and started to grab 2 pieces which they charged me 9.99 each some tape and and a dryer kit. She opened the bag replaced the bit with something else and then charged me 41.00. I went back to return the items except the tape. The lady at the counter said my refund would only be 21.48 asked for my debit card and ended up charging me instead of a refund. She then said she voided it and proceeded to refund me. When I questioned why I was not receiving a refund she said the bolts were only worth a 1.00. I showed her my receipt showing I was charged 9.99 each and she said well I changed the end piece. First of all I didn't ask you to open the bag up and change the fittings. Still I lost out and had to wait for my refund to show up it was a mess! I know they are local and close but don't go here they swap out parts and charge you full price and if you have to return anything it's on the consumer. This local hardware store is a ripoff! My first time experience and will never trust to go there again. Stay away unless you just want to give your money away. read more
