Love this place. Old school small town hardware stores are rapidly disappearing, so it's important…read moreto give them your business whenever you can. This one is classic. On a corner of the main street in the center of a suburban downtown. Across the street from the town diner. They can match any odd nut or bolt you have. The aisles are jammed to the ceiling with lots of odds, ends, and unexpected tools and gadgets you didn't know you need...but now you need! Great store.

This is for the owner of the store ( and jokes on me if he's the person that doesn't seem to care…read moreabout the customers ). I've never been to your store before but pass it on my way home from work . For almost 20 yrs. I was a regular customer of Benjamin Bros /Value Hardware before they closed down . What kept me loyal to that store wasnt their prices . It was the friendliness and helpfulness which should be a standard work ethic for customer service people. As soon as a floor person saw you there they asked if they could be of help after they said Hi... I guess you know where I'm going with this .. A younger man was helping someone by the paints and he was friendly with the customer. I got the older man ringing me out . He didn't say hello or ask to help me find anything when I saw him earlier in the aisles wandering right next to him. He was just as stone faced at the register . Why would I want to go back there and become a loyal customer ?? I'm writing this because I think it's a shame when a small business is being hurt unnecessarily .

I have been going to Benjamin Brothers since I moved into Tenafly in 1977. Frankly I've never been…read moredisappointed. Oh sure, on the busiest day of the week (Sat.) when the place is flooded with people like me who need help and don't know what they're doing you might wait a while for help. But, when that person comes, he will spend as much time as it takes to get you what you need and to be sure you know how to use it. This is pure, solid, excellent customer service at its best and it's well worth the wait. There have been times when I've asked "Do I need this?" and been told "You don't have to spend so much let me show you a better idea." What they sell are quality items - not the junk you'll get elsewhere that won't last. If you're a lady as am I, no condescending attitudes ever which truly counts for a lot. And they were equally patient, kind and attentive with my unskilled husband. When I owned a home Benjamin Brothers taught me how to take care of it. As a real estate agent they've been invaluable in helping me to help my clients. Maybe this is a generation gap since I'm no longer young but I'd rather wait the 5 or 6 minutes on a busy day to have someone who's an expert make sure I've got the right item and then explain what to do with that thing.

Retro store that could be a gem but workers are consistently not friendly if you don't look like…read morethem. This is Bergen County in the 2020s, 1/2 of the population is minority yet no one in this store is and you feel that every second you're in the store. You will be mostly ignored willfully. Walked out and decided against making a purchase.

I walked into this store to ask a completely normal question about an order I had already paid for…read more I walked out feeling humiliated, insulted, and almost in tears. After today's experience, I personally will never shop at Wards again, and I cannot recommend this business to others. Convenience is simply not worth being treated with this level of disrespect. Please think carefully about where you choose to spend your money and support businesses that actually treat their customers with basic courtesy and respect. Hope it will help someone else .

They're not many of those left anymore I went in remembering fondly, going into many of these stores over the years. Well, the store was just like I remembered those other stores . It is set up exactly like you remember. It's like stepping back in time 50 years ago. So many good things that you can buy practical things for the home. They have a nice aisle of games and cards. Even a retro new version of that fun electronic game Simon. I spent a good 45 minutes looking around. I should've taken a basket because I could hardly carry when I brought up to the counter. Leather cleaner. Undershirts. Lava soap, Brillo pads address labels. Yarn a blank videotape. A few lightbulbs. Some stick on hangers, shoe polish shoelaces plus a bunch more stuff. So nice to have a store that has so many good quality, practical things all up and down the aisles Not a lot of junk. Just good stuff. The cashier was very friendly and told me about the history of the store. It was open since 1960. Three generations of the same family have run the store. Definitely come here and you'll find lots of things that are practical that you'll need for your house. Maybe some gifts for the holidays too.
