I brought in my original paint can so the store could match the exact color I used on my wall. They made me a new can and kept the old one to discard. When I got home, I realized they had given me a completely different color. Mistakes happen -- that part wasn't the issue. I went back and asked if they could retrieve my original can from the trash so they could properly match the color. It had already been thrown out, so I took time to find the closest match from their color samples. They remade the paint... and then tried to charge me again for correcting their mistake. I was shocked. The incorrect color was not my error -- it was theirs. Yet they refused to take responsibility and attempted to make me pay for it. That is unacceptable customer service. When a business makes a mistake, it should own it and fix it without putting the burden on the customer. Instead, I was treated with complete disregard and disrespect. I will not be returning, and I don't recommend this store to anyone who values fairness, accountability, or basic customer service. read more

This is a great neighborhood hardware store. It is truly amazing how much "stuff" they were able to pack into it. In all the years that I have been their customer, I can count on one hand the number of times that they did not have what I was looking for. And their prices are surprisingly reasonable. This place is cool. It's much better than Home Depot or Lowes because of the knowledgeable staff. Yes, Home depot and Lowes have cheaper prices, but you can't expect the same customer service. Those big box stores don't employ people who can help you with specific problems; they're not qualified. I hope this place sticks around for a while. read more

Moore's Hardware has been run by the same family for as long as I can remember & that's a really long time. We moved to Leonia in 1957. I've been going there ever since from holding on to my mother's hand as a child to driving there last week to have keys made. How can a small, independent hardware store exist today? Because it's so very excellent. No matter what you need, you'll find it here. No matter what advice or help you need, you'll get it here. It's also so much darn fun to go into the place - it's dripping with inventory. All the way up the walls, everywhere you look, it's crammed with tons of cool stuff. There's a parking lot behind the store that leads you to the back door if you don't find a spot on Broad Avenue. Small local stores are having a hard time. Moore's Hardware is still in business because it's such a special place. You'll go home with what you truly need at a fair price plus you'll know what to do with it. John is so knowledgeable and helpful. It's amazing having a hardware store in town and walking distance. People need to stop complaining about petty things. Maybe it's a generational thing, but disregard some of the complaints that have nothing to do with the real value of this store. The larger picture is that it's an incredible convenience having a hardware store in town so that I don't have to schlep over to Home Depot. I continue to support the store and ask that everyone in Leonia should as well. I love this place. They are always very friendly and helpful here, and they seem to have everything I could ever need and more! They stock super useful items, things you would never find at the big box stores. For example, I just bought a 100+-year-old house and wanted to replace some of the aging light switch covers. I was searching for period appropriate covers, and finally hit the mother lode when I came here. They keep beautiful covers in stock, high quality and very reasonably priced. You won't find these at the big box stores. Moore's Hardware is my go-to hardware, paint store, cleaning supplies store... Very highly recommended. read more

Great mom and pop hardware store. I feel like it is the only one left. I hate going to Home Depot or Lowe's. It takes forever to find something and they can't help you. I try so hard to support local stores but I just can't do it any more. I have been treated rudely by the staff on my last two visits. I went to buy a length of chain and was given an eyeroll and "do you know how hard it is to cut the chain?" by the woman behind the counter. I wanted to tell her how easily I could go somewhere else. Luckily one of the men in the store was able to help me. It is also its offensive when the woman (not the same one) behind the counter expresses her political views for all to hear. I left my items on the counter and walked out. Telling a customer I will have to leave the country if "so and so" gets elected is frankly offensive in this setting. The proximity of the big box stores and the internet make this store obsolete. Looking forward to seeing another nail salon in its place. read more

I no longer can stand walking miles in these big box stores and never being able to find what I need. I so much prefer going to the local hardware store, telling them what my problem is and having them help find exactly what I need. And really if it is an Ace Hardware, and Benjamin Moore's, the pricing is about the same. Not to say that the lack of aggravation is priceless!
