We ordered the garlic Ramen and the spicy beef Ramen and the chicken Katsu. We don't have any pictures because our phones were dead from no electricity from the storm, and the folks were so nice they let us charge phone at the counter. The portions are humongous. We were shocked, even though we were super hungry since we haven't had any real food for almost 24 hours, we could only eat half of the food. Granted we order three plates for two people, but still. And even at dinner, we couldn't finish the leftovers because it was just very filling. The flavors are really good. I didn't expect to have dined here, but I'm glad that we did. For how busy they were, they were very attentive and apologize for just slightly longer wait times. But honestly for such a crazy rain storm, it was so wonderful to have them be open! It's a simple restaurant in a plaza with a Safeway. Nothing fancy, but also not really a hole in the wall either. It's not a particularly trendy or a cute place, but it does the job. There's plenty of parking in the plaza that's free and then the restroom is also easily accessible and well kept.

Stopping at the shopping center while in Kahului? Have some Ramen Ya! Oh YA!…read more No frills ramen place in Queen Ka'ahumanu, good portions and good prices = good combination! We took Mom here for lunch one day, but be warned even on a weekday there is still a bit of a waitlist because there aren't too many tables inside! We kept it simple on our visit: -Combo A (for Mom & Wifey to share) - Mini Ramen, 4 pieces Gyoza, Mini Chicken Katsu Curry -Combo B (for me) - Mini Wonton Soup, 4 pieces Gyoza, Mini Chicken Katsu Curry -Beef Curry Rice (for the bro) Don't let those mini soups in the combo sets fool you, it's a LOT of food that's supposed to be meant for 1 person! But it's good enough for 2 to share! The Beef Curry Rice entree is no slacker either, it's a mound of hot white rice...buried by another mound of steaming hot beef curry! Soups were good, light broth but still flavorful - noodles were cooked just right and the wontons were full of filling. The gyoza were great too, pan fried just right to give some texture. Oh, that chicken katsu curry though...MUAH! It's super tasty even though it's deemed a 'small' portion, there was a large pile of rice with an entire row of freshly fried katsu, topped with a generous pour of their curry sauce! Makes the combo set overly portioned and will make you FULL! My brother couldn't finish his massive serving of Beef Curry Rice by himself, he ended up taking almost half of it home! Prices are very reasonable at Ramen Ya, and the service is great. Be prepared to wait for your food a bit though, they really are busy throughout the entire lunch rush because folks come in for takeout too!

We got there right after opening and there were a handful of diners seated ahead of us and no wait. My perception was that it's a mom running it with her sons but I could be totally off here. The food is incredible, tasty, hot, flavorful and even customizable. And WOW IT IS GOOD! UMAMI the food is so perfectly crafted together. I had a spicy soup no egg, my husband a customized ramen, and my best friend had something or other. Pork bun was nice and I enjoyed the mayo ratio. Gyoza? Oh definitely fresh and handmade in house THEY ARE GOOD, GOOD. If you eat here don't leave without trying an order of Gyoza. Portions were great, at least for someone like me who really enjoys ramen and drinking down the broth like there's no tomorrow. The place has a nice mood inside where you can feel the Japanese influence radiating from the walls. Overall it's pretty neat and comfortable.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Umi…read moreSushi absolutely exceeded my expectations! I can't believe I waited this long to try it. The Ahi Katsu was next level -- perfectly crisp on the outside, tender and flavorful inside. The combination of their house-made aioli, katsu sauce, and unagi sauce was to die for. Every bite had the perfect balance of texture and richness. I also loved the Agedashi Eggplant. I'm usually not a big fan of bonita flakes or that smoky flavor profile, but they executed it beautifully -- light, balanced, and not overpowering at all. Total winner. On top of the amazing food, the service was fantastic and we even scored perfect parking, which always feels like a bonus. Overall such a great experience -- I genuinely regret not coming here sooner. Can't wait to come back!

This newer open-concept location has a tight 10 stall parking lot with overflow parking across the street. It upgraded their sushi bar into a 12 foot sleek concrete dining row with 9 barstools. The open air dining room has several tables that can be put together for parties of 8. When we dined there it was very busy. I spoke to our young server who almost seemed overwhelmed with tables. Although she did a great job juggling her guests. She recited specials of the night and we ordered a fair amount of dishes for our large party. Umi combines modern local dishes with Japanese flavors, sashimi and sushi rolls. Several dishes utilize the deep fat fryer for textures and depth. We had a good variety: Agedashi Eggplant very crispy and flavorful spices and a dashi sauce that kept its crispness. Calamari Salad and Calamari had crispy tendrils of squid legs with a sauce that tied it together. Panko Breaded Pork Belly served with a thick Katsu Sauce was decadent. Fried Nabeta was entirely edible and very crispy. Large bed of rice, puréed ginger, and a delicate dashi-soy sauce. Truffle Edamame and Sushi rolls were good. Tuna bolognese with spaghetti in a light tomato sauce. Oyster shooters had a good proportion of spiciness with a raw oyster. The special Modern Sushi brought 5 Goteburg Sausage Rolls, an inverted Musubi with salty fried sausage encasing rice. Many folks bring coolers of beer or wine to complement the food. Service was efficient even though the restaurant was filled.

I did a search on Instagram and came across this business Ohana Karaoke Cafe & Grill, for Korean foods. This is all for my other half since he is a meat Jun Snob, he loves his meat jun so I decided to check out this business for our 2nd lunch. Nice idea, Karaoke and Korean foods, great combination! There are tables for dining and about 3 Karaoke rooms ( small, medium, & large) Connie (owner) greeted us and took our order. She was super friendly, usually at the restaurants here on Koreamouku, I have to be extra nice so they can be more friendlier. *note, no complimentary water here at all, you can bring your own or purchase the water here. Our orders were the meat jun and fish jun combo ($19.) and it has been a long time since I last had my Korean noods, got the ramen noodles with dumplings ( $10.) Big portions, everything was enough for 2 even came home with leftover jun. So the verdict and I ask the other half, so Mr. Meat Jun Snob what is the ratings, he said "7/10 and the fish jun makes up for it". hehe. Even though I can fancy up my Korean ramen better with the fixings, the noods was a great fix, There were 5 ban chan, zuchini and broccoli was too salty but enjoyed kim chee and sprouts. It was nice enjoying Korean foods on Maui! The other half thanked me and I am glad he was happy with his meat jun fixed. If we are back on Maui for longer than 3 hours, we would def. be back again! The prices for portion size and quality is reasonable! Support this wonderful local business!
