I enthusiastically change my rating from three stars to five! I visited Tamarack Farms with my family during our recent trip to Hayward and wow is this spot much improved from when I visited six years ago. Some things that stood out: * The farm pizza! This was delicious. We tried a couple including pepperoni and mac and cheese pizza. The crust was excellent as was the toppings. I was also impressed by how well the mac and cheese stayed on top of the pizza. The kids loved it too! * The brisket! My husband's aunt and uncle recommended this, and they weren't wrong. It was so tender. Just perfection! * The cornbread! If you ever had Famous Dave's cornbread, this is very similar, and for good reason. "Famous Dave" Dave Anderson owns Tamarack Farms. * The wine slushies! On a warm day, these hit the spot. It also feels like this restaurant has refined its approach. This includes the decor, the menu and how the restaurant is run. Where before we had to wait a while for our food, this time around everything seemed to run like a well oiled machine. Tamarack Farms also includes a fun selection of wine, so you could take some bottles home with you. The building is open and airy, with large garage doors. It's just a fun place all around. I hope it becomes a tradition that we come here whenever we're in the Northwoods. read more

One of the newer restaurants to open around Hayward and so happy it did. We went on a Friday night and it was booming with activity. We had a reservation so they were able to seat us. I enjoyed the frozen margaritas. Very tasty and a good way to cool down. We got pizza and a salad. It was good thin crust pizza. The salad was super big and filling. They had a small menu but there were tons of families and adults hanging out. It was def a vibe! read more

Odd place for an eatery, a farm! Sign said "Farm Pizza". Whaaat? So we went and tried the pizza, kept all the offerings except pepperoni, it came out quicker than expected. A little small, and there is only one size. But it was a good thin crust pizza. The green pepper and onion were still a bit crunchy, that is a good thing in my playbook. Holy barbecue! We're from Texas, and let me tell you, this brisket is top-notch! The only thing better than the brisket is the brisket paired with baked beans and a sweet cornbread muffin. We topped it all off with a bottle of Ricco Cherry Moscato! The service was exceptional, and the environment was hip and fun. There's indoor seating, a beautiful patio, and a grassy area where kids can throw a ball or run around and play. My friends and I got a bottle of red wine, red wine slushies, and the garlic parm chicken wings to share. At first, we were interested in trying some of their house made wines and didn't know which one to go with, so our server gave us a small sample of each one (I believe there were 4 house wines) to try. We ended up not really liking any of their house wines so we just got the slushies and a local red to try at home. Quality/taste: Their house made wines were not really that good.. I also think they didn't have that many choices to choose from. I just expected a more extensive list of their house wines since it is a winery after all. The red slushy drinks were good tasting and strong though. The chicken wings were underwhelming to me. The flavor was there but the quality of the chicken itself was not good; it was dry, not juicy at all, and tough. I just liked the flavor. Service: Good service. I really liked our server - forgot her name. She served us with patience and kindness even though we came at the end of the day, almost closing time for them. Everything came out quickly and she came by to check on us regularly. Environment: Very cute indoor and outdoor setting. I like the decor a lot! Very modern farmy vibes. Price: Fairly cheap for what they give you! Overall, I did enjoy my experience here but I just wish they had more house wine options and ones that tasted good. We've been to this restaurant 3 times. The first visits, we had great service and food. Loved the place. This visit was way off the mark. Server didn't realize she had our table so everyone around us had been served long before we were approached. We asked about the $5 charge to open the bottle of wine we ordered. Server responded by asking how long I've lived in Minnesota. "All my life but we are in Wisconsin, in Hayward, in the middle of nowhere". While a corkage fee may be appropriate for Mpls, it's not for here and her response was inappropriate. I would have not thought twice about paying more for the bottle had it just been listed on the menu for more. She brought the wine already corked, didn't offer us a taste to ensure it was okay, and then recorked the bottle of red wine instead of letting it breathe. A little thing but for a wine bar, but she should know better. We asked to have our wings first before ordering our BBQ but after waiting again a long time, our server came over to take our main course order. We hadn't gotten our wings yet so we asked her to wait. She looked a little upset. When we were done with the wings, our server came over to take the rest of our order and told us to order quickly as the kitchen was closing...in a half hour. A little thing of course but it added to our frustration with her. The wings were good but the brisket was underdone and sliced too thick. We've eaten at Old Southern BBQ many times and this was just not up to their usual good taste. We left a little disappointed. All of these things were small but added up. We will go there again. We hope the next time is more like our first two visits than our third. read more

"Corkage fee"...a surcharge a business charges to recoup the price of serving a bottle of wine that is NOT purchased on premises. This is not the definition that Tamarack Farms adheres to when charging a fee to serve the bottle of wine that you ordered off of their wine menu. Please, just charge more for the wine if necessary & not incorrectly add a "corkage fee". A "wine bar", at the bare minimum should know what wines are served chilled. The Prosecco was brought to my table warm. The pizza was very good; It's the best I've found in the Hayward area. FYI, It takes 2X as long for a pizza to come to the table than other menu items. It's basically bbq, pizza & salad offered. A previous review mentioned offering something like a cheese plate would be an improvement. Considering they're a wine (& beer) bar, a charcuterie board (or similar item) would probably sell more wine. Mr Famous Dave may need a good adviser on what makes a wine bar great, maybe. read more

Let me start out by saying I'm not a wine drinker. Beer, rum, cocktails, that's where I stay. But wine? I've tried and can never really enjoy it. There's always just something I don't enjoy enough to have another glass (too dry, too sweet, etc.). That all changed when I was introduced to Tamarack Farms Winery. On our most recent trip to Hayward, my wife, my parents and I went out to TFW because my parents had been and spoke wonders of it. My wife LOVES wine so she was already in. Me? I heard about their pizzas so I at least had some reason to go. Spoiler: I now drink wine. I'll. Drink. Every. Single. Wine. They. Offer. It's fruit wine, but it isn't overly sweet. The Cranberries Jubilee has made me a believer. It's tart, at first it screams fall but it could be enjoyed any time of the year. The aforementioned pizza? It's made in a huge brick oven. The crust is very crisp, the sausage is amazing (a HUGE deciding factor of a good pizza). They've also got wings that have a great smokey flavor to them. They're very big and are served with a glazed garlic parmesan sauce. I can't decide if I'd like it more on the side but another visit will have to help me. If you're in or around the Hayward area and are a wine drinker, you've got to stop. If you don't drink wine but enjoy pizza, you've got to stop. If you don't enjoy either (somehow), still stop and I'm sure you'll be persuaded to start enjoying one/the other/both. read more

Terrible service..Arrived at 6:15 pm with a group of 10. Told 45min to 1hr. No Problem. Finally got seated at 7;30pm, while people with smaller groups got seated before us. Waitress (Megan) finally came over to wait on us. Placed our orders and about 10 minutes later she came to tell us that they were out of pork and ribs. So, we ordered brisket instead. We heard another waitress go to her table and tell them they were completely out of meat. No Megan...she finally came over and told use they were out of meat. So, we ordered pizza, and were told about 20 minutes. Another table was seated after use , and ordered after us, and their pizza was delivered before ours?? So, after 2.5 hrs. I left with no food. So first the good. Pizzas are in general good. Interesting model of a flat price with multiple toppings to pick from. The space is open and airy and sitting on the patio is nice. The needs improvement- firstly they haven't figured out the oven such that one edge of most pizzas turns to ash. Brick oven is one thing but charcoal isn't good . Secondly service is poor. We waited about 45 min for our pizzas at late time for lunch when they weren't very busy. We tried the garlic wings but they were not a hit, kind of mushy and the flavor was super strong. Went here for wine and BBQ. Server was very accommodating giving us samples of wine before we settled on a bottle. They have their own fruit wines as well which were quite good and not as sweet as many other wineries that produce fruit wines. There was also a large selection of regular dry and sweet red and whites. We had beef brisket and ribs, baked beans and slaw. Very good. Brisket was super tender and ribs were seasoned perfectly with a great rub. Baked beans were among the best I've ever had. Great atmosphere indoor and outdoor and a place to relax and indulge ! [Note: This a COVID era post]. Went with a friend for food, not the wine. Seating was well-spaced out outdoors (though, you could eat indoors). We ordered their woodfired pizzas...and wow, they were good! The sauce was nice and tangy and the sausage was nice and peppery...just like Chicago-style sausage. And that's because one of the co-owners, Ken, IS from Chicago. Ken visited our table (and other guests) to say hello and get feedback. Ken and the servers had masks and most guests were really good about social distance. Sitting outside on the winery grounds under an umbrella was super pretty. And if you don't like pizza, they also served smoked meat made by Dave (as in in Famous Dave's), who is also a co-owner. If you are looking for their wines, they serve wine slushies outside that are mixed with fruit juices. The wine list (for by the glass or bottle) consists of wines from other regions. read more

Highly recommend! The owners are lovely - very hospitable and welcoming. We had a large group and they handled our many requests with ease. The menu is small (pizza, salad and wings) but we found it to be perfect. There was something for everyone in our group. All of the food was delicious, fresh and fast to the table. I was most impressed with the wine offerings. They had their own fruit wines (fun to try - lots of unique fruit combinations), as well as a wide selection of global wines, all reasonably priced. The sausage had good flavor (and being from Chicago we are extremely sausage/pizza picky) and overall pizza was really good. I wish they had more options like different wing flavors. Wowza!!! This place is the real deal. It is not to be missed if you are in the Hayward area. The concept & menu are simple. The food is top notch thin crust pizza, really fresh salad, wings from an award winning pitmaster, locally grown fruit wines, delicious select varietal wines and a terrific beer selection. Add great hospitality from friendly, knowledgeable staff. Add the glorious farmland setting with the option to sit on their enclosed patio with it's beautiful vista overlooking the land where they are planting fresh produce. Did I mention their authentic wood & gas fired pizza oven manned by folks who really know what they know doing. A great, crave-worthy thin crust, ample toppings but not over=done, great quality cheese (hey it is Wisconsin!) and it all adds up to make this place a winner. Farm to table at its best with a focua on pizza, salad, wings, wine, beer and all in a casual, friendly atmosphere, Plenty of free parking. Handicapped accessible including the bathrooms, seating areas and the wine tasting area. My family and I cannot wait to go back.
