Driving back through Wisconsin, it was really in the mood for a laid back Wisconsin Tavern. One with good bloody Mary's, a football on the television, and a decent selection of food. Sawmill hit some of those items and I was pleased with my experience overall. I am a pescatarian and usually look at menus online before stopping in. I'm not sure what I have been looking at, but the menu that was actually available was smaller than I had anticipated. It could be because this is the shoulder season between summer crowds and winter crowds. I wish there had been more options available for a vegetarian. Nonetheless, I loved my bloody Mary and appreciated that they served it with a snit of beer without even asking. I ordered a small cheese, pizza, and it was very good. Not exactly what I was looking for, but it still made me happy. The staff was super friendly and attentive, even though they were very busy. Definitely a place to stop at when driving through Seeley. read more

Three of us decided to stop here and we were glad we did. Food was amazing with a pulled pork sandwich with chips, a gluten free crust pizza and a burger. All of our food was tasty. Great spot for dinner in the Hayward area! Love the kitschy "Up North" decor hanging from literally every wall - including the ceilings! - here. It definitely has an old timey feel and I'm here for the camp. Service was a bit slow and it wasn't quite clear who our server was, but we were enjoying the ambiance and chatting. There is plenty of space in here, with side rooms that offer more tables and space. You won't have any trouble fitting your whole party here! Almost our entire table opted for the pizza - so awesome to have a cauliflower crust option even in small town WI! I was pleasantly surprised by the pizza but wish I would have gotten their meat lovers version for more protein. Word on the street is they do an awesome fish fry as well! read more

Sawmill brings a little bit of, well, everything to the tiny settlement of Seeley. Restaurant. Bar. Coffee shop. Theater. Chainsaw art. Canoe rentals. Lodging. Honestly, what more can you ask for? It's big enough inside that even on busy nights you shouldn't have a huge wait. I had a prime rib sandwich that was plenty tasty. They have drinkable wine. I've never thought about doing a fish fry as takeout, but COVID has made us all do things we've never done before! Sawmill's broasted cod, as part of Friday Fish Fry, was outstanding! Fluffy cod, fluffy breading (which is how I like it, versus cracker crumb or crunchy). Not greasy. A good portion. Although, if there had been 3 more pieces, I would have eaten them because they tasted so good! Also good was the roll. The Sawmill really did a great job during the celebration of life for my close friend, they really made the entire event not only a great time but provided us with the closure we were all looking for. Woody Nordic Saloon. This is a good and unique place. Its much of an experience than a regular bar/eatery. We went here during spring. Food was awesome , as many have noted service was ok, but can't complain. Scrambled egg with blue cheese was good, give it a try. We were here a couple weeks ago but they were out of prime rib for the sandwich. The other food we ordered was delicious. The waitress suggested we come back for prime rib, so last night we gave it a try. The drinks and food were good and our waitress was new and did an excellent job. We were purchasing pull tabs at our table and won $3. My boyfriend went up to the bar to collect and the bartender looked at the tickets and said, "What a waste of my time!" Upon leaving, my group was playing the gambling machines. My friend put in $20 and it got stuck in the machine to which the machine said "Hopper Jam." My friend told the same bartender who made the comment about the tickets that she lost her $20 in the machine to which her response was, "I don't know what to tell ya!!" So a male employee came over and said, "I'll just give you your $20." I thanked him and said the other bartender refused to give us the money and was very rude. She made up some excuse that she was delivering food and denied making these comments and attributed it to "being busy." She then proceeded to tell me to "*ick off, you *ucking *itch!" Needless to say, we spent $160 on food and it was good up until the last 20 minutes. She should've been fired on the spot. We won't be back. read more

This place has it going on!! What do you say about a place that styles itself a bar/restaurant/martini lounge/coffee shop/hotel-lodge/chainsaw bear wood carving center? The only thing they are missing is a gas station and a boat launch. Dined here for a Friday fish fry. They feature a broasted fish fry. If you don't know what that is, it is fish deep fried in a pressure cooker. Popular with chicken, but I've never seen broasted fish. I really liked it! It had a nice light battering and the fish actually tasted baked, not fried! Over all, our party of six was very satisfied with our food. The bar was swamped, and like most places up here, they are understaffed. Apparently, if you are looking for a job in the food service industry, you need to move up to the Hayward/Cable area. Popular places have been closing because there just isn't enough food help to go around. This place is HUGE, no matter how packed the lot is, they will find a spot for you somewhere! For a place that tries to be all things to all people, I gotta tip my hat to them. They are doing a fine job pulling that off in humble Seeley, WI. read more

In the North woods, you take what you can get, knowing that the same truck pulls up to one place and another, so the only difference is atmosphere and people. The Sawmill is a nice place with perfect rustic decor, and lots of attention to quality of build etc. Good crowd. Fun place. I take back the nasty things I said previously (I was upset because of a misunderstanding about a private contractor I thought was an employee who told me to "Go Back to Minnesota," among other kindnesses. When this asshole isn't around, I will continue to enjoy the good old Sawmill Saloon. read more

Worst Service. We visited the Sawmill on July 5th with our party of 12. We have visited the Sawmill on almost every trip up north and had adequate service. This evening we were told that there would be a wait. We waited for 45+ min, multiple other parties were seated even though we arrived before them. We expressed multiple times that we were fine to split up our party. I personally witnessed the server joking about how she would take care of another party (that arrived after us and was seated immediately). To say it is poorly run would be a complement. There was no awareness of how to seat and serve patrons with any level of competency. Even if the wait would have been hours, the servers could have checked in, and updated the status. Instead there were rude looks and shrill comments directed toward our party. Avoid at all costs! Go to Hayward or keep going to Rivers Eatery in Cable, WI. read more

Typical Northwoods decor: deer, moose mounts, fish mounts, and lotsa beer signs. Notty pine. Very nice. We had Bloody Mary's with Alaskan Amber on tap chasers. The Amber was delicious. The Bloody was below average, and had a lack of fun snacks. It only had a lemon slice, pickle spear and olive! But I would go back for the Alaskan Amber on tap and fun decor. They have food, we watched the cook making a pizza, which smelled good. They have a stage in the back room. I suspect the place gets very busy for the Birkie. read more

Solid spot when snowmobiling! The pizza singelo with bacon, cheese curds and the tot kegs were all super tasty. They even have good ranch dressing and marinara sauce - always a small plus in my book. It's always busy in here so be patient with service, however if you're non-fussy and just looking for good, quick eats and standard drinks you're set. read more

I normally wouldn't review a place that I hadn't tasted the food, BUT it was so dirty and unsanitary that we both looked at each other (whilst prying our fingers from the glue trap menu) and stood up from our chairs and walked out. The tables were gross. I mean full of sticky substances and food remnants. The menus (as mentioned above) were the size of a novella (disconcerting) and stuck to the hands. Flies abounded and the waters presented by the waitress (very nice woman) were dirty along the rim with lip prints. Gross. I would've been happy to give a good review because Dawn our waitress was amazing BUT then this happened... to start our story, here are NO trash receptacles outside (you know to throw about a paper receipt, random small trash or a water bottle etc) so we went to their back trash receptacles to recycle 2 water bottles, and the lady from the kitchen proceeded to yell at me! Meanwhile I not only gave them business but tipped VERY WELL, and just wanted to recycle TWO water bottles bc they (unlike other businesses) did not have a trash can outside their own business for public use! I wouldn't recomend this place after what SHE did to me, because that is RIDICULOUS how she made me feel after I ate there and gave her business is unacceptable. We are not locals and did not see a sign that said no public dumping (again though it was just 2 water bottles) and did not mean to be offensive in any way. Be a good person and she did not reflect that whatsoever. read more

My husband and I have been regular customers here for the past 5 years. We have never had a problem with the food or staff. Tonight (10-6-17) was a first. Of course, we had out of town guests with us, making this an even more unpleasant ordeal to go through. Our waitress was extremely rude and condescending the whole evening. Not to everyone, just to our table. It was a busy night, but when I tried to ask for ice in our lukewarm glasses and pitcher of water that she brought us, I was told I would have to wait. Instead, I thought I could help out, and just ask the bartender for some ice. Once the waitress saw me at the bar, accepting the now filled pitcher with ice, she forcefully grabbed the pitcher from me and rudely said SHE would take that to our table. All in all, it was very embarrassing, very uncomfortable, and VERY uncalled for. I don't want to see anyone lose a job, but I will be meeting with the manager to ask that this waitress is either sent to a class to learn proper customer service, or her behavior will be reflected in her next review. If I were the manager, I would want to know how she is treating people. ***********Oh, and the person who she claimed had their foot in the way? That was one of our guests who has Parkinson's disease. His foot was under the table, but he WAS experiencing tremors and his foot was moving. It was NOT, however, sticking out or in her way. This caused our guest to feel terrible and brought more attention to his unfortunate condition. *********** ***UPDATE: I stopped to speak with the manager of the Sawmill Saloon and he was very receptive to my complaint about this certain waitress. He assured me that the issue would be dealt with and that I had done NOTHING to warrant the behavior that she displayed throughout the evening. I hate to leave this review, but I feel I have to speak up. Tonight's visit was not our first time there, my wife and I have enjoyed this local venue for many years. The food had always been good, but things must have changed there recently. Tonight's visit may be our last. I can't believe how rudely we were treated. Our waitress, the older, dark haired female, provided the absolute worst service I have ever experienced in any restaurant... Yes, it was a busy Friday night, but a waitress should never treat people the way we were treated! It started when we asked for for the bill to be on separate checks when we were ordering. This frustrated her. Then, when she took our beverage order, 3 of us just wanted ice water, and one wanted a beer. She brought out a pitcher of semi-cool tap water with no ice and 4 cups with no ice.. We had to bring the pitcher back up to the bar and ask if they'd put some ice in for us. One in our party had asked for a slice of lemon in their ice water. We never got any lemon. There was a long wait for our food and I know that's not our waitresses fault, but she never returned to the table to clear off the empty beer bottle or one persons empty soup bowl and plate. Once the food arrived, she never returned to check on how things were and never took any dirty dishes off the table. One of the other waitress came by and cleared the table for her and seemed to want to apologize for her. When we tried to catch our waitresses attention to ask for a to-go box as she passed by, she rudely stuck her hand up and said, "no", and kept walking away. When my wife walked up to the bar and asked the bartender for a box, the bartender politely handed one to her, but our waitress walked up to my wife and tried to grab it from her and said, "You need to learn to be patient !!". There was was also an issue with pricing on one of the checks. The menu stated that the Walleye Dinner was $21.95, but when the check came, it was on the bill as $24.95. When that person tried to pay with cash, the waitress wanted to know if she needed cash back. The waitress said that she didn't have enough change with her to make it at the table, and said, rudely, "The bartender has the change, you're going to have to wait". When she eventually returned with the change, she quite childishly said, " Someone's feet are in the way!!" I don't know if we'll ever go back to the Sawmill Saloon, but if we do, we'll make sure we DON'T have that crusty woman as our waitress!!! read more

We really like this place but they are ALWAYS short on wait staff. Food is ready to be served but sits at the pick up counter. They have good food and a great up- north atmosphere but need more help. Hope the owner reads this and steps up the game on service and getting more help. read more

Very good up north bar food. Had burgers and a Ruben. My wife loved the Ruben, among the best she has had. Service was good and quick.

This was absolutely the worse service we encountered on our trip to Wisconsin. The waitress was incredibly rude and actually said to us, "if you don't like it do it yourself then." We we're suppose to be comped the pizza we ordered, which was not very good, and the restaurant charged us anyway. Will never go back there again and my family that lives there won't go there either.
