We've been coming here for years with each trip to the area and Cable Cafe has been consistently good for breakfast - hash browns that are cooked to perfection (the right crisp without being mushy), eggs are great and the pancakes are soooo good! Too weird and not in a good way. The menu reads like a Sysco delivery truck manifest. What you get looks nothing like the food images posted on their Facebook account. The soup of the day was flavorless and watery with one huge piece of drab broccoli. Onion rings were obviously processed, frozen, and dumped out of a plastic bag into a fryer for much too short a time since they were only half cooked. Their iced tea was dark brown, and the milkshake was made from a fake mix with spray can whipped cream. To give a sense of the culinary skill level here, the special of the day was hamburger gravy over mashed potatoes with corn and buttered white bread aka Depression era poor folks "food." We declined to order that vintage slop. To add to the nightmare ambiance, there was an abundance of flies in their tiny dining area. To top it off, this place charges a fee for credit card use though we saw no notice of that posted anywhere and the server didn't mention it. Paid cash. Two simple drinks, a bowl and a cup of horrible soup, and one order of half cooked onion rings + tip was $40. Do not eat here. A candy bar from the gas station would be a better choice. read more

I don't think our server had even served before or been to a restaurant. Food was good but the service was awful. Brought out one plate at a time with 5 or more minutes between. Food got cold fast. Worth driving to Cable just to eat at the Cable Cafe. Jamie, the owner has been there each of the many times I've visited and she makes you feel like a real guest. If you are in the Cable area and desire a solid, hearty meal, then this is the place to stop. The owner is intimate with the daily operations and insures you have a great experience. What a gem! Best breakfast I have had in a long, long time. The chicken fried steak was perfect and the best I have ever had. Sausage gravy was great and the eggs were exactly as I asked. Rare place that actually has sourdough bread. Great prices and very generous portions. Absolutely recommend. The owner was our server that day and she also makes incredible jams and other treats that are available for purchase. It's a little small but definitely the place to stop if you are anywhere nearby! Cable Cafe is a fairly unassuming spot - they're located next to a service station and they are only open for breakfast and lunch. It's mostly a locals spot and easy to pass by as you come in or out of town. Inside, it's a tiny, basic diner with seating for maybe 30 people. Bathrooms are accessed from the outside. Don't come here executing fancypants eggs Benedict, or creme brûlée French toast. You're going to get solid, well prepared breakfast and lunch classics like fried eggs, pancakes and turkey sandwiches. They make it all to order, so don't expect that you'll be in and out in 10 minutes, especially if they are busy. Prices are reasonable and portions are very generous. My tip - their biscuits and gravy is truly outstanding. It's a homemade gravy that's full of sausage and very peppery. You might be tempted to order the 2 biscuit order but one is HUGE and definitely enough. A friend made the mistake of getting two once, ate it all (because it was so good) and paid dearly for his gluttony all that day. read more

This is a small breakfast and lunch cafe, probably converted from an ice cream stand. The decor is country style, nothing fancy. The coffee was so so. Where they do stand out is with their homemade corned beef hash. The portion was generous and flavorful and the corned beef was lightly crisped. They offered homemade jams as well, peach, strawberry and a low sugar grape variety. Another nice touch was the fruit garnish on our breakfast plates since it wasn't your run of the mill orange slice. All in all a good belly filling for the road trip back home. read more

Stopped in after a rainy paddle down the river. Pretty busy at 11am on Sunday but my GF and I found a seat at the bar. Friendly wait staff and everything is made to order. We had to wait 30min or so for food, but when it arrived it was delicious. I had french toast and my GF had the veggie omelet. I liked the f-toast but I wish I would have gotten the omelet. So many vegetables in there - yum. My GF loved it. I hear they use free range eggs, too! I saw that they use organic spinach in a salad for lunch time. They also have gluten free bread. Some nice surprises in this small cafe. If you have been to the Brickhouse in Cable many times and suggest you switch it up and visit the Cable Cafe. read more

Excellent lunch served slowly. Six of us stopped here for lunch. No problem getting a table, but, as the other reviewers have pointed out... The kitchen isn't speedy and there are signs posted in the restaurant that everything is made to order. Took about 30 minutes to get our entire order. It was worth the wait. The chicken sandwiches and burgers were great. The soup wasn't noteworthy. I want to come back for breakfast and try the biscuits and gravy. read more

Just when I was looking for a decent cup of coffee to replace the Monster I'd settled for after driving all night to reach a cabin near Drummond, I see this cute little place right across the street. Being a Friday morning, I was very happy to see that they were open for business at about 8 am, and not busy at all. However, after we had sat for awhile, the counter was soon crowded with locals, claiming their stools and chatting with the little girl who was helping behind the counter (it's spring break, so no school). Everybody was so happy to be visiting, even on a bit of a gloomy day. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very homey and comfortable. We ordered omelets, and they were definitely worth the price. Large, filling, with toast on the side? All good things. And our waitress, whose name I didn't get, was very attentive, and kept our coffees filled. She even brought us the whole bottle of creamer from the fridge when the small cups on the table were out of French vanilla. Brownie points for that one! This is my first time to this area, staying at my friend's family's cabin. But it's sure looking like the camping trip, along with breakfast at the cafe, will be tradition from now on! read more

What a great place! Went to Lake Namakagen to my brother-in-law's cabin for the first time and on our way home we stopped off here for breakfast. Ordered the 3-egg 3-meat omelet and sourdough toast. Talk about a HUGE omelet! Couldn't eat it all. The place is very homey. You feel like you are at your mom's eating. Very friendly people and just down-home great cooking. Will visit again some day!
