Midwest bbq, if you can call it bbq. We were told this was the best bbq in Wisconsin from a friend I personally was very underwhelmed... I got the pulled pork platter with coleslaw and Brussel sprouts. Pulled pork was bland and didn't have much flavor, lots of liquid on the plate. Coleslaw was coleslaw, take it or leave it. Brussel sprouts were the best thing I ate, they have hot honey and I'm a sucker for hot honey. The drink I had was a chocolate porter from Round Man brewery, it didn't have much flavor, I've had better. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Good ambiance, nice patio, clean restrooms, but my party was very disappointed with their meals.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our group of 4 stopped during a work roadtrip, hungry during a long drive. The location is convenient, directly off of the freeway in rural Northern Wisconsin. The menu offers sandwiches, a salad, and platters that don't disclose just how little meat is included (assuming they were 1/4lb servings). I opted for the pulled pork, which unfortunately lacked any flavor besides apple cider vinegar. I had to not only drench it in BBQ, but for the first time ever I had to salt the meat. My coworkers left hungry when their platters included only 2 slices of brisket. Points for creativity on their sides. I love the variety of options, but none met my expectations in the slightest. Overall, the whole meal lacked flavor, seasoning, and they should work on their portions/prices. Spending over $20 on a platter here is a waste. read more

Yes! Yes! Yes! I don't know how long this place has been here but it was super good and a welcome new restaurant in restaurant-poor northwest Wisconsin. Great ribs. Never been to Strongman, and five of us met for dinner. Michelle was our waitress and was a very busy night. She had a great sense of humor and was AWESOME. Each of us ordered different main courses and sides. Very good quality and nice size portions!! Sweet potato fries and honey sprout sides were delicious, and the sweet and spicy pickles. Michelle explained the 4 different types of BBQ sauce for the sandwiches, which were very good. Local beer on tap as well, which was very good. Small portions and huge, crazy prices. Dry, flavorless brisket, really dry and flavorless brisket. Totally flavorless pulled pork. They add, quoting from their website, a "relatively insignificant 4% charge" to cover employee benefits. If it is so "insignificant" why don't they pay it themselves? Maybe just increase the (already crazy high) prices 4% rather than adding a surprise surcharge to your bill at the end of meal? Does the surprise billing of 4% actually go to the employees or does it just pad the owner's profits? Seriously, just raise prices on the menu and be up front with charges. Mac and cheese was OK but small. Cornbread was very small (but it did have a good flavor). Service was OK but nothing special. We waited longer for the bill to come than for the meal...I guess they forgot us? Actually, the bill never came, my wife and I had to track the waitperson down to get and pay our bill! (She was, for some reason, not coming out of the back, the bar tender had to finally go get her!) [[HIGHLIGHT]]Atmosphere was nice, bright, clean and new looking...but nothing special...kind'a too open, cold and sterile (IMHO).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Free peanuts on the table were not bad. Finally visited the long anticipated Strong Man Smokehouse and it did not disappoint! Any time I see a bbq spot I will always pick that over any other type of restaurant. The brisket is excellent. Perfectly cooked and not dry. The pork wings are a must try, the dry rub is excellent and the hot honey sprouts. Not to mention the bbq sauces are all made in house and delicious. We went there on a Wednesday for dinner at 5 pm and it was packed! There was a volleyball tournament going on. So glad to see another restaurant open up in this area. Most of the other restaurants in this area are the same menu, same salad bar, and same drinks. This place is different so don't expect the same. I hope this place continues to do well. We recently returned from a vacation in Austin, TX (supposedly the best BBQ you've ever had) People line up for hours. We went to 2 of these places. Bad.. really bad. The ribs were so tough and dry that you could barely get the meat off the bones! The 2nd place we went, the service was so bad that I literally asked a server if she had a problem? Now we are home again, and our 1st visit to Strongman. Number one, they need to go to Austin, Texas, and teach these people how to make ribs!! Number two, they need to go to various other restaurants and teach people what real customer service means! Outstanding food, outstanding service. Loved munching on peanuts with our ice cold beer. The menu portion is not what you get. My husband ordered the Brisket that was $26 and they brought him two skinny slices that looked like it was a child's portion. Definitely not worth the money for what you got. And the Meaty Mac description is not clear. It says it has green onion and it came with pickled onion which I hate and had to pick off. The food tasted really good and establishment itself was really nice. I love the log bar stools. They just need to update the description of the food on the menu when it says a pound and the waitress comes back and says the chef said it's 6 oz. $26 for 6 oz? ? Ouch! read more

Great service, fun atmosphere. Love the brisket, popovers with strawberry butter (yum), Mac & cheese, beans and the thick fries are good. The brisket burger is also good. The sauces aren't great, I think they could all be replaced, they are think like mayo. And the coleslaw needs more of a pineapple punch. Full bar is great!
