But he was nice and was willing to help us out if we had any questions. The pita was so delicious. I think it was complementary, but I am unsure about that too since I ordered hummus. Anyways, I ate that up. It came out hot. It came with two dips. One garlicy white sauce and a tangy orange sauce. The pita tasted amazing when I combined the two sauces. I tried the chicken bowl as well, but it wasn't really my kind of seasoning. The chicken was well-made though. It was my first time trying such a cuisine, and I guess it's not for me. However, I appreciate the food culture and care made into it so 5 stars!

I came in for the soft opening after weeks of renovations, and while the name and menu are the same, everything else is not. This is not the same restaurant. If you knew the original owner, you would know he created something special. It felt like you were being welcomed into his home. He took pride in the food and in making sure every customer felt well cared for. Appetizers always came out first with some friendly conversation, and you could feel the care he put into every detail. That experience is gone. First, I waited 30+ minutes for a dish that normally takes 15, even on a busy night. When I left, a couple who had ordered before me were still waiting for their wraps! Second, the food has changed. The chicken shawarma and gyro recipes are different, and the gyro was actually cold. The sauces, which used to be the highlight, are not the same. The red sauce is gone, and the garlic sauce tastes different. The rice is different. The salad is now a small pile of romaine, onion, cucumber, black olives, and corn with no dressing. Overall, the new recipes feel like a massive downgrade from the original recipes. Lastly, I told the host I would be dining inside, but my food was served in plastic containers. Meanwhile, a nearby group that appeared to be staff or family was served plated food that looked noticeably fresher and better prepared. It honestly felt like their food was prioritized over paying customers, which may have explained the delays. The menu photos have not changed, but they no longer reflect what is actually being served. That feels misleading, especially for customers like me who were excited for the reopening. Very disappointing.

Suffice to say, it left a lasting impression on me, because here I am, almost a decade later. The atmosphere is everything a Texas BBQ joint should be, and having folks enter from the pit area was a stroke of genius. It really sets the expectation & mood. There's "decent" BBQ places here in Ohio, but there's no question Texas does it best, and Hard 8 is a true standout! (LOVE those charros!) This will be the 1st place I stop to eat if ever again I'm in the area. Honorable mention to Tyler's BBQ up in Amarillo if anyone gets out that way.

First I got the brisket, regular potato salad, sweet corn, cheesecake, and a Diet Coke (I know, oink oink piggy amirite ). But yeah it was really frickin good like what am I supposed to say. The second time I got a half chicken, twice baked potato salad, Mac and cheese, sweet potato fries, cheesecake, and a ranch water. (Holy moo could he order any more food) and yeah I was stuffed and satisfied. Only complain is they didn't use topo Chico for the ranch water but a piggy eats whatever slop the farmer pours in the troph. Thanks hard eight. I'll be back.

The pitmaster (a great follow on Instagram) continues to work his magic and create creative dishes that pair flavors from his home country with Texas smoke. My Overall Rating - 3 1/2 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Kafi has undergone a makeover! Gone is the mural with the Wagyu cow. It's been replaced with a natural wood wall that also extends to the line. At the end of the line is what you came for, smoked brisket, back ribs, and more under a heat lamp (more on this later). Kafi BBQ keeps the hookah friendly outdoor space, the red (and comfortable) booth seating, and the smell of smoked wood. 1 Star. Service - The staff is great. Once it's your turn, they will slice your meat to order. I forgot to ask for fatty brisket the last time I went, and they were nice enough to slice it for me. Once your meat is weighed, you get your sides and desserts. Great system - I hope they don't change a thing. 1 Star, Food - I think I figured out why each of my visits to Kafi BBQ haven't been as good as others'. Because the next day when I heat up my leftovers, the brisket is amazing. Kafi BBQ's food sits under a heat lamp. If you visit later in the day when the brisket and ribs have been sitting out, your meat will be dry. All my visits have been the same, and I had to dip it in BBQ sauce (you may or may not like it). Same goes for the sides, the fries sound amazing, but each time I ordered them they had been sitting out. Now, the next day when I reheat the brisket (put it in an oven for 45 min at 225 degrees), it's some of the best brisket in all of North Texas. Heads up! Wagyu brisket comes at a price. I usually spend $100+ for me and my son. 1/2 Star. Will I Return? - Yes. Salahodeen continues to hone this craft. Each visit continues to offer a new experience. While Kafi BBQ is only open Thursday - Sunday, it's still one of the most unique Texas-style BBQ joints (with a Halal twist) in all of North Texas. 1 Star.
