I don't even like Thai food and surprisingly I was able to enjoy two dishes at this establishment...the ginger chicken and the chicken drunken noodle. The portions are huge which is always a plus and a bang for your buck. The service is quite impressive in an area littered with Hill staffers and federal employees. For those weary of Thai food, which is probably more Americanized, I definitely recommend. read more

We tried Talay Thai the other night based on some other reviews and will definitely be ordering from here on a regular basis! Delivery is quick, prices are very reasonable, and portions are freakin' HUGE! I had the soft shell crabs with Panang curry sauce and it was awesome; two giant crabs fried perfectly and the curry had just enough kick to it without being too spicy. Can't wait to try some of their other items! read more

I was hoping to give this place more stars because most of the low ratings have been for lunch wait times. I live in the neighborhood so I generally don't have to compete with the lunch-time staffer rush. I ordered the curry puffs which were amazing. A really sweet curry in a flaky pastry crust. Delicious! My go-to orders are Pad Thai and Pad See Eew. The Pad See Eew could use more flavor. It wasn't bad, but could use more sauce to actually give the tofu some flavor. I know, some of you are going to say that the ordering tofu was my mistake and meat would have made this dish better. Probably true. But I've has some great tofu pad see eew. The great part is that the deliver to southwest which is incredibly hard to find. I'll probably order from them again out of convenience, but it's not my favorite in the area. read more

The Thai tea was excellent. My daughter really enjoyed the pad thai and I had the green curry with extra spice and it was truly a delight. If I'm back in the area again I'd revisit this place read more

The mango and sticky rice dessert was SO GOOD. My waitress was very sweet and let me sit at a table with an outlet to charge my phone. As a tourist, this was very nice. read more

Seriously the worst place i have ever in my entire life gotten food from. First, my entire order was incorrect, when I called Eat24 the first time they said I would get my money back. The next 4 times I called, I was told i wasn't going to get refunded (even though everything was still in the condition it was dellievered) they said there was nothing they could do. (I PAID CASH) worst mistake ever - they keep it - they dont give a flying f if you work your a** off for it... or have 4 kids to feed you can't because the restaurant wont give you your money back. Literally BLOCKED me from calling back for my money. CONTACT YOUR LAWYERS!!! SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

The food was mediocre at best. I ordered the panang curry with chicken and shrimp tempura. The panang curry was just bland and only had a few slices of pepper in it (I expected more veggies). The shrimp tempura seemed like it wasn't fried long enough and was still soft. I also ordered coconut custard and that was delicious. Overall, this is my least favorite Thai place I've tried in the area. read more

Totally inflexible. Cannot leave fish sauce out of dish, or substitute noodles for rice, etc., upon request. But the real complaint is waitress touching the pitcher to everyone's glass when pouring water, ensuring germs transferred to everyone in restaurant. Don't they warn against that in waitress training? Won't be going back. Recommend SweetGreen for salad, where staff bend over backwards to deliver satisfaction. read more

Started off ok with the air conditioner cooling me off but then things quickly went downhill. I had to as for water three times and out spring rolls were accidentally given to a different table. read more

Great food and prompt service. We had the drunken noodles, green chicken curry, and springrolls. All very good!

Very friendly and fast service. Decent atmosphere and cost. Unfortunately, this couldn't make up for the mediocre food. Tofu was overfried and flavors were unbalanced on the larb tofu. The veggie pad thai was unremarkable. The Thai iced tea was great though. read more

I have been here a couple of times on business lunches with customers who work nearby. For food I would really give it 2 stars. Nothing memorable but its piping hot when it should be and served quickly and accurately. I kick it up to three because of service. When you're on the hill and have about an hour to get out of an office, eat and get back, this place should make it happen. Atmosphere.. um, not so much. read more

Great spicy lamb gai salad and Tom Ka gai soup. Friendly service

Great neighborhood spot! Nothing fancy but very tasty. Good spice level and friendly service.

Awesome Thai food.. The appetizers sampler & Thai pad.... so good. Nice lady working there helped me decide. ... great service to go. I'll be back read more

Have been a loyal customer for 10+ years, but on most recent order they forgot the rice. In spite of being only 1.3 miles from my house, it took 30+ minutes for them to deliver, and there was no gift certificate, coupon, nothing to acknowledge they just ruined a 75$ dinner. By the time the other half of our order was delivered everything was cold. Will not order from again. read more

Arrived in town late and ordered delivery. They quoted 45 minutes but it was probably 30 minutes and the food was very good. Will recommend... read more

Food was just okay- definitely have had much better Thai food everywhere else. I ordered drunken noodles with chicken, chicken was ground chicken, unlike the most Thai places I eat at. Thai iced tea (one of my favorite things to order) was way too sweet. Good location, but probably wouldn't recommend to people visiting D.C. read more

Really really good Thai- I'm a pad Thai and curry lover and have it everywhere I go and this is the best place I have tried in DC. The pad Thai has a lot of flavor (not dry like other places) and the green curry is really good (not watery, extremely flavorful and they don't skimp on the chicken). They are also super fast and refill drinks before they are even half empty read more

Krapaw and Mango salad was amazing. They did a great job. Loved it! Will be back!!

Ordered delivery of drunken noodles and it was not good at all. The noodles very stuck together the checking had a bad after taste. Not ordering from here again. read more

Visiting from out of town, we stopped here because it was close to where we were staying. I had the green curry and it was spicy and very good! The green papaya salad was also spicy and tasty. I'd definitely come again. read more

We stayed nearby during our stay in DC and so this was convenient place for us to have dinner. We enjoyed the food. Ordered takeout another night and had no complaints. read more

I've only ordered take out here and it's an adequate take out place (with some caveats) compared to some of the other horrible places we've tried. The pad thai is average but made with round noodles (capppelini-like) and not flat noodles. The portion size is filling though the chicken is sparse. The drunken noodles were definitely spicy but the chicken they use is ground, fyi. My sister enjoyed her pineapple fried rice. If I were in the area I would go to Sanphan instead, but Sanphan doesn't deliver to my address. So if I'm craving greasy thai delivery, I'm likely to re-order, but I wouldn't go eat here. read more

As others have said, pretty good-average-don't go out of your way-but it's good if you're there Thai food. And certainly fair prices for this ridiculously expensive city. I ordered the Basil Chicken-basil, chicken, snow peas, and a chili-garlic sauce with white rice. Nice and spicy--just the way I like ALL my food (don't worry though-it tells you on the menu if it's spicy or not). The service was good-I think my water was refilled 5 or 6 times. They weren't that busy yet, we were there for early lunch. Our food came out amazingly fast--which makes you wonder how it was possible-but I guess you can't complain read more

This is my go-to neighborhood Thai joint. I am actually closer to the one on 8th St., but prefer Talay. Also, their delivery is super fast. I judge firstly by the quality of Tom Kha soup. It's very good here, with a perfect level of sourness, rich coconut flavor, and just enough chili oil. The pad Thai is always a success, although I could go for a bit more veg. The mango and sticky rice is classic and lovely. read more

We are regular delivery customers and I am prompted to write a review after a very bad experience with a competitor (Thai Orchid's Kitchen). The food is uniformly good, including the fresh veggies, and arrives quickly and hot. We're especially fans of the steamed dumplings, shrimp roll, chicken satay, pad thai, drunken noodles, pad see-ew, and panang curry. The soups are also very good. We haven't been for lunch, when others have had service problems, but the dining room appears to be nearly empty most nights around dinner (as seen when we occasionally pick up carryout) and delivery is reliable. read more

I can't believe this is the best Pad Thai anyone has ever had (as the review stated). It was bland, the meat dried out and generally greasy. They were polite and fast with delivery, but overpriced. The only reason it didn't rate 1 star was the soup and curry puffs. Decent. The soup was the high point. read more

We stumbled upon this restaurant last night after finding ourselves hungry for Thai while in the District. There were a few other patrons there, but the server expertly waited on all tables with just the right amount of attentiveness. We ordered the garlic chicken (with a few modification which the kitchen happily made) and the green curry. We were very happy with the portion size and taste; and prices were on par for downtown. We will gladly come back to Talay Thai! I'd like to also point out that it was a beautiful night and we would have loved to have sat outside but we arrived on a bit on the late side, so a server was already taking down their patio set up for the evening (so I was a bit disappointed but I certainly couldn't blame them). Right after we walked in, another couple arrived with a really cute dog who wanted to eat, but obviously needed an outside table to accommodate the non-service pup. The server immediately reset a table that he had just put away and happily served them dinner outside. For once, great customer service was witnessed in the District!! Kuddos!! read more

It's consistent and decent. Not out of this world, but not bad either. The pad ped is good, but the yellow curry is bland. Appetizers aren't their strength either, with the calamari being cut too thin, breaded too much and cooked thru so much that its rubbery. The Tom Ka Ga soup and drunken noodles are my favorite things on the menu. There are few options in the area, with the only alternatives in the Eastern Market/Barracks Row area, which is a lot to walk when you have a short lunch window. Delivery is quick and attentive. read more

Not much to say other than it was a beautiful place in a beautiful neighborhood with great food. Service was good given the apparent language barrier, but the atmosphere and the quality of food was excellent. I'm not from the area but I would definitely keep revisiting it if I were. read more

The food is very bland and the meat did not taste fresh. Save yourself time and money.

Our group has eaten here several times a year for the last several years. We used to meet at Bullfeather's, next door, and found them less than satisfactory. I'm no expert on Thai food, but I don't think any of us has had a bad dish in that time. They've also been easily able to accommodate our group (week nights), and the service has always been friendly, although maybe a tad slow at times. We've found it a very convenient and agreeable place to meet and eat. read more

So if you like hot and spicy then get it. But for us it was so hot it was almost inedible. I blame it on myself! Friendly driver and efficient delivery. I would order again but without the spice!! read more

I ordered Pad Kee Mao and Basil fried rice for delivery. The food was so bad I ended throwing them away. They cooked their food too sweet. The Pad Kee Mao came with ground meat instead of chicken like I ordered. The rice in the fried rice was undercooked that it's so dry and hard to chew. They should fire their cook. No quality whatsoever. read more

Talay Thai is my go-to for Thai food on the Hill (and really anywhere in the district). The food is delicious, the service is fantastic, and that keeps me coming back (on almost a weekly basis). The chicken pad se-ew is my favorite, but they also make a great pad Thai and their curry is amazing. When it's pretty out, you can sit out front and enjoy the traffic around the Hill, which is pretty great for people watching. Highly recommend! read more

Food was awesome and they gave a big portion for a Togo order. The waitress was extremely rude when I asked to split the check with a friend. The delivery minimum is also 20 dollars not 15 like listed on the site. read more

It's okay, but the menu is pretty limited at lunch (not sure if it gets more exciting a dinner). The usual Thai suspects, done adequately. None of these Hill Thai places come close to Ruan Thai in lowly, un-hip Wheaton, which is genuinely delicious and new-tasting. read more

We ordered delivery using GrubHub. We ordered the crab/chicken steamed dumplings, green curry with chicken and spicy eggplant. All of the food was delicious. We will definitely order here again. read more

We live and work in the neighborhood. We have been to this restaurant many times. Today I had the worst experience there of any restaurant, thanks to a surly, unfriendly, and rude waitress. We were the only people at 2 PM on a Saturday; we were two grey haired but not white people. No water (even though I asked), a completely flat and stale soda, "steamed" dumplings that were steamed yesterday, not even heated, place setting strewn about the table, no effort to hand us the menu, no plates, everything slammed on the table. The woman (I have her name) appeared to be having a bad day, probably because we interfered her TV watching which remained loudly on throughout. I am generalizing but Thai people have always been gracious - I count lots of students who are now high ranked officials among many close friends; this was an astonishingly rude person. One could give a pass to the food, but the rudeness was just extraordinary. We still left her a tip because we felt for the poor soul who was just so miserable, but NEVER again. That goes for the entire office. read more
