This place was suggested to me by Yelp's "what's for dinner" my daughter and I decided to try this place out and it was Great. We love Thai food and this hit the mark. We had the fried calamari, chicken satay ( the cucumber dressing was delicious) shrimp spring rolls, red curry with chicken and siam fried rice with chicken. Everything was very good with the exception that the red curry with chicken needed salt, otherwise, very good. read more

Nestled away in between a subway and a Mexican restaurant is Talay Thai. It caters to the demanding taste buds of some of the worlds most influential people. Although the space is limited, Talay Thai does not disappoint with its prompt authentic Thai selection. Since I've been at the Library I've visited three times and all meals were uniquely diverse from another. The drunken noodles made me reflect on the rich historical culture of the drunken masters of old, the Siam rice brought me back to the old country and finally the pad thai was virtually perfect like a Sagat street fighting victory. This is definitely a place to visit and visit often. read more

Friggin really like this place! I'm a huge Thai food fan & after leaving my awesome "hole-in-the-wall" spot in Central Florida *tear* and moving to DC the search for an equally awesome Thai restaurant was ON! My friend invited me to lunch here 4.5 yrs ago & I've found no other Thai spot to top Talay yet! Why I dig it: Never had a prob getting seated Food always comes out hot & quick Extra points for Sam (the server)!! Reasonable pricing read more

The food is delicious. They are fast and efficient. I go there faithfully1 a week. The location is perfect. A beautiful view while eating some of the best thai food I have EVER had!!!! read more

The basil fried rice is magical. I've had it three times (with vegetables), and it's been spot on each time. Nice kick too. I made such a big deal about it that my coworkers tasted it, and they all thought it was yummy as well. Nice staff also. Another coworker loves the pad Thai. So glad this place is available on the Hill! read more

Among the best Thai I've had in DC or anywhere. The panang curry is excellent and the mango salad is delicious too. Servings are generous and price, particularly given one order can serve two, are extremely reasonable. The indoor space is a bit dated but the service is friendly and attentive. Outdoor patio is an option and great (and long!) happy hour. read more

I have had a lot of Thai food before, and I have to say this was the worst. I ordered for delivery from them. It came pretty fast (about 30 minutes). It wasn't totally disgusting, but I think you would be better off choosing a diffrent Thai restaurant. The food was not traditional and didn't seem like it was made by an actually Thai person. I also ordered the spring rolls, which were extremely greasy. It wasn't worth the money I spent. I won't be going back. read more

Food is 2. Service is 1. So I rounded down. The beef is very hard and flavorless. The chicken is more dry than pine wood. The noodles lacked delicious Thai flavor. The fried rice was very average. I should have looked at the Yelp reviews before I ordered here. The crusty old man with white hair that works there is very rude. We ordered takeout and did not let us eat outside at the table even though there was 4 people total there. I will take your money but I won't let you sit in one of my 4 empty tables to eat it. read more

While portions were pretty generous, the quality was very bad. Honestly some of the worst Thai food I have had. Rad na had gravy with the consistency and flavor of water. Would not reccomend, and do not plan on coming back. read more

I really like Thai food, and this place is pretty reliable- the Pad Thai with shrimp is great, the Pad See Eew also is delicious. If it's a sunny day and a weekday, don't expect to get an outdoor table unless you get there before noon (it's a popular place for Capitol Hill staffers). The service is usually pretty quick, except one time when I was there and it took literally over 40 minutes for the food to come out - they probably messed up our order or forgot about us. This is across the street from the Capitol South metro station (orange line), and a good choice for a weekday lunch after you've stopped by your U.S. Representative's Office or after your tour of the Library of Congress. read more

So I have come here on tow occasions mainly because its so close to my office. The service is ok, I was in and out in an hour which is my lunch break. The first time I ordered the drunken noodles and I was grossed out that there was ground chicken in it. I would have liked the warning that there was ground chicken on the menu because that repulses me and I would have just ordered it vegetarian. The next time I decided to order pad thai. Thankfully there were chunks of chicken but something was off about the chicken, it tasted a little odd. There were also a lot of peanuts and a wedge of orange which was kinda strange. My friend ordered the green curry, she seemed to like it. Overall the place is very reasonable and fast but the location and speed are the best qualities. read more

Tolerable Thai at reasonable prices. This place fits in well with the generally mediocre dining options on Capitol Hill. Far from the best Thai food in the city, I don't understand why people sing this place's praises. It's simply better than the House cafeterias. That, my friends, is not a difficult bar to get over. read more

CliffsNotes: I'm a big fan of Talay Thai. Not because its authenticity or its incredible dishes but because of its massive portion sizes. When you order the panang curry, they don't skimp on the meat unlike other restaurants. And if you order the Pad Thai to go, you get the entire box. I'm guessing 61.25 cubic inches of Pad Thai goodness. Overall, I'd agree with everybody else that the food isn't all that great. But I'll never turn down a $9 Pad Thai when it easily feeds two. read more

This place gets shut down by the health department regularly and they used to cook in the alley. Eat here at your own risk. Last time I ate here without a choice in the matter I can't repeat what I found in my food read more

Good food and solid service. I tend to do take out from here since I work in the area and it always travels well. Certainly does it's job if you have a hankering for thai food and you work on Capitol Hill. read more

I ordered on a Friday at 12:30pm. Didn't get the food till almost 2pm. Food was alright but definitely NOT worth waiting close to 1.5 hours for it. Not ordering from here any time soon read more

Mediocre and greasy thai food that is convenient to the House office buildings. Not too much worse than the options up at eastern market either and a good bit better than the House cafeteria. I've been here many a time for a quick lunch with congressional staffers. The food isn't expensive and they are accustomed to breaking up the checks to comply with lobbying rules. They also give you a pepper tray, which is useful. Still not a real great option though. read more

Ordered delivery from this place through Grubhub. Included special instructions to arrange a pick up. This note was either ignored or missed by the delivery man even though it was printed directly on the bag he was carrying! By the time I got the food it was luke warm. Even if I had gotten the food on time, it was the worst Pad Thai if ever had. The dumplings were ok, but nothing special. read more

Very good Thai food and well-priced. I especially like their drunken noodles and green curry. Plus, they have a huge delivery area!

Very nice quiet hidden gem. Panang Curry was delicious, and the portion was nice and large. Service was good.

My girlfriend and myself love Thai food and were craving some yummy pad-thai. She ordered shrimp pad thai and I ordered the vegetarian version. We were both VERY, VERY disappointed with the flavor of the noodles. My friend thought that they were rancid and I found them just un-edible. Neither one of us liked them, which pretty much confimed that they were not good by any standards! When we told the waiter that we didn't like them, he just shrugged and brought the check. He didn't even offer a discount. Terrible disappointment. Don't go there! read more

Went here once for dinner. I had drunken noodles and my boyfriend had duck curry. The food was fairly greasy. That evening, we both got very sick from the food. It was the worst thai we've ever had. read more

All I wanted was some Thai food and they said we don't deliver there with no explanation. This is ridiculous they won't deliver to SE DC literally right across the Sousa Bridge..... I refuse to ever eat there now read more

If I could, I'd give this place zero starts for their service alone. I just received delivery from Talay Thai restaurant nearly 90 minutes after placing the order for delivery. The estimated delivery time was 30-45 minutes. I called the restaurant 10 times before someone actually picked up, and when I finally got someone on the line and inquired about the status of my order, was told he was trying to "find" his driver with an amused laugh. I was also told I'd get a call back within a few minutes to update me on the status of the delivery, and 15 minutes later had not received a call. When the delivery finally arrived, I told the driver that he was extremely late and we were actually leaving the office for the night, so the delivery was too late. That comment was met with a chuckle and a not so heart felt apology. I don't recommend ordering delivery based on my experience. The food order was for my co-workers, so I can't speak to the quality of the food. I'm sure it wasn't good enough to wait for 90 minutes though. read more

Expensive and the food did not taste good. Ordered spring rolls, 2 different fried rices and the pad Thai for $60. There were no drink options to order and I would not order here again. read more

We got home delivery. The worst meal I've had in DC! Food was cold and did not taste good. Our order was incomplete. Do not pick this place! Go with an alternative choice...... believe me.....you'll be much happier!! read more

How does Talay Thai have 3 stars?! Yeah, they're fast and courteous, but the music was a mix of Mariah Carey and Backstreet Boys, and the food was so boring. The Pad Thai was completely tasteless and the food was obviously not made fresh (the chicken was dry and chewy). I would like to see a really good, fresh Thai place be in this location (right next to the Capitol buildings) for the same price ($10-15 for entree). Go to Bullfeathers, Capitol Lounge, or Tortilla Coast if you want to eat nearby. read more

I don't know why this place has such mediocre reviews! My boyfriend lives two blocks from here, and this is our go-to place for dinner when we don't want to cook -- especially when we need late takeout food, but we also eat in frequently. My go-to foods are their drunken noodle (it's spicy!) with beef, or their pad thai with some awesome spicy sauce on the side to cover it in. I also like their red curry. Their takeout portions are super generous, and they are speedy. I'm never disappointed -- this is true comfort food, I ALWAYS finish with a smile on my face, and it's a tradition for HBO Sundays. read more

Consistently tasty and reliable. The herbs, spices and other ingredients are always fresh and the vegetarian/vegan options are outstanding.

I love there Thai food. Didn't have any problems with it. No problem with service it was empty when I came there. I might go back when it's a better day. read more

One more vote for average. It's a fine place if you're in the area but with so many good Thai restaurants in the area, it's not worth going out of the way for. read more

I ordered carry out. I had the fried calamari and drunken noodles with shrimp. The calamari was battered a bit heavily. They serve calamari rings but not the tentacles. It was okay but it reminded me of what you can get at a fast food Chinese restaurant. I enjoyed the spicy drunken noodles with shrimp. They had the thick fresh white rice noodles stir fried with the spicy shrimp and sauce. There were a lot of vegetables in the dish. Mostly scallions and bits of red and green pepper strips. Overall it was a good dish but I wish there was more sauce or gravy to it. read more

The food here is good if you have never really had good Thai food. Ordered the Basil Leaf fried rice (very spicy, not memorable), Duck salad (excellent, but wished there was more lettuce), Basil Eggplant with chicken (best dish we ordered) and pad thai (standard pad thai, but could have had more fresh veggies). Overall it was okay, inexpensive with large portions. Interior was nicely decorated and service was adequate. It seemed quite busy during lunch time. Great location near the metro stop. read more

This place is great on a nice day because they have tons of outdoor tables. The bowls of soup are huge. The fried soft shell crab w/ panang sauce is ridiculously good AND you get like 4 crabs when restaurants that are much more expensive in this city give you only 2 or 3. The other dishes like chicken with garlic sauce are your average thai restaurant or takeout fair. Its inexpensive enough - most dinner entrees are @ $11. read more

Pretty much the definition of an average, American-style Thai eatery.

I was a little concerned when we walked in and there was not a sole in the restaurant. Maybe we missed dinner hour? But the restaurants next door were bustling! But, I wanted Asian so we gave it a shot. It was pretty good, not bad at all. I had the spicy tofu eggplant. The restaurant was clean, food tasty, service fast. I mean, it was not outstanding Thai. But I'm not certain DC is known for outstanding Asian food. But it was good. Would I come back? Sure, if I'm in the area and craving Thai. The prices are a bit high for Thai food though, in my opinion. read more

Look, my perspective might be a bit biased. There is a lack of food on the House side of Capitol Hill and Talay Thai outpeforms all preconceptions. The food is fantastic whether you are sitting in or getting take out. I'm constantly pleased by whatever I order from there, but I do tend to go for the pad thai or drunken noodles. read more

While on vacation I was just trying to find a place to eat, since I felt like an Asian place to go to we just went to a random restaurant that my iPhone picked up. I ordered the Pad See Ew and it came out ok. It was luke warm and the the beef was tough but the noodles and veges were pretty fresh. The service was great but the appetizers left one wanting more. They were at best luke warm as well and needed a lot of sauce to overcome the bland taste. read more

My experience was better than some of the others had. I went for lunch at noon on a Monday. It was busy but not full. Service was excellent and everything came quickly. I had drunken noodles. They were good. They should have some heat, but didn't, so were not great, read more

Food is just ok and a bit pricey for what you get. They use ground chicken for the Pad Ke Mou w/ chicken, not good in my book. My LA hole in the wall thai(and nicer ones) would run this place out of business, if they were in the same town. For CapHill thai, Sanphan is much better and the prices are about the same. read more
