This is a very popular lunch spot on main street in Lexington, SC. We visited this Japanese restaurant a few weeks ago, because they offer sushi, tacos, and margaritas. It has both indoor and outdoor seating. They have a full bar as well along with large TVs, so this is a great spot to enjoy a sports/game day. Upon entering, we were quickly greeted by a friendly staff member. Their menu is short and simple, which made it very easy to decide on what we wanted to order. I really wanted to like this place, but it was a miss from start to finish. If you're a true sushi lover, I'd skip it. The fish didn't taste fresh, in fact, I literally gagged on the tuna. The sushi felt very commercial, and honestly, I've had fresher sushi from HEB. It also took a long time for our food to arrive, even though the restaurant was nearly empty on a quiet afternoon. By the time it came out, it just wasn't worth the wait. We actually left hungry. To top it off, my wife's beer was expired, and the restroom wasn't clean. I love the vibe of this place. I love the fusion idea with the menu and I really love the smoke on the water cocktail! The restaurant is clean. The bathrooms are clean and the wait staff is pretty awesome. Price is a little high for when you get in my opinion, but it is what it is. I ordered the Greenville roll. I would have to say this wasn't the greatest sushi's I have ever had. The rice wasn't really the right texture, the tempura was cold and I could taste the grease it was cooked in. The eel and salmon were ok, but not fresh. The avocado was fresh. I ended up throwing most of it out. This was my first order, so I'm willing to try again but overall I wasn't happy with my meal. read more

Service in atmosphere is a 10 out of 10. We had Emily and she was amazing! The sushi was three out of 10. I will say I don't think you go here for excellent sushi, and I am admittedly a bit of a sushi snob. However, the eel was mushy, and I was even afraid to finish it because it tasted rotten. We did not eat more than one piece with eel on it. Overall, the sushi just seemed not great. We didn't try anything else so I cannot speak to any of the other items. read more

Looking at the reviews I am kind of disappointed with my experience. We came in around 1 they said the wifi was down but that was no problem we just waited to be seated. You can see they are struggling maybe short staffed but quality is the main thing. A little communication can go such a long way. The waiter was very short and didn't provide a menu when we sat down only when we asked not sure if that's how it normally is. We waited for probably 10 minutes and got our drinks. We asked for straws and it was probably 10 minutes after that he still had no straws and decided this probably wasn't the best time to try them out. After being in the restaurant almost 30 minutes with basically nothing we decided to try somewhere else. Maybe just caught them on a bad day which is unfortunate because we were really hoping to try it since it had opened up. read more

The experience at this restaurant was almost as bad as it could get. It had an appealing menu and great atmosphere, but our party had several major issues. Issue #1: Time. It took 15 minutes after we were seated for a server came by just to take drinks, another 40 minutes for just part of our food to arrive, and another 20 minutes for the rest of our food to arrive. There were no extra check-ins beyond the food getting delivered, and no reasons given for the long waits. For comparison, a table was seated 10 minutes after us, and had their entire meal and left before the first part of our food arrived. Issue #2) Food quality. We didn't have super complicated orders, we ordered chips and queso, kids shrimp and fries, four tacos with two minor substitutions (no onions on one, no mushrooms on another) and one sushi roll. The tacos were decent, but the tortilla chips were clearly fried in old oil (plus barely salted), the green chile queso had no green chiles and instead some red chile sauce on it, the kids shrimp had absolutely zero flavor, and the Susan roll was like eating a mouthful of oil. Issue #3) Overcharging. The manager had come by and offered to comp the Susan roll because of how long the wait was, which we appreciated. But we noticed after we'd paid the bill (which we should have double-checked) and checked the receipt that the bill was for an entirely different table, and more than it would have been even without the roll being comped. When we went in to correct the issue, the staff acted annoyed that we'd even asked for the bill to be corrected. The trifecta of mediocre to bad food, overcharging, and very bad service means we won't recommend this restaurant to anyone. There's no way to correct this with us, as we won't be returning for any reason. We'd highly recommend better training with a focus on both speed of service and food quality (for heaven's sake use fresher oil or at least filter it regularly). read more

I came here with my husband on their Grand Opening Day and was absolutely blown away! We were both impressed. From the excellent service we received to the delicious and freshly made to order food delivered to our table, I had 0 complaints. This was the best TakoSushi experience I've ever had in the midlands. I used to work at the TakoSushi in Aiken 13 years ago and loved it so much! The other location in downtown Columbia on Main Street and the location in Greenville have disappointed me in the past a number of times, but this one! This location takes the trophy! My husband and I met the owner, James, a couple different managers and shared some great conversations with the sushi chefs at the sushi bar as we were the first ones there to ever sit and dine there. When the tempura asparagus came out all crispy, warm and fresh to order, I just knew we were bound to have a great experience. The queso was delicious! It is served with pinto beans underneath the queso dip and topped with some kind of smoky chili sauce. Our sushi rolls were rolled to perfection and the flavors were very much fresh and on point! The whole staff was very impressive for a Grand Opening. I was able to get a good view of everything they were doing from my seat. The inside decor is modern, airy and bold. It's a beautiful restaurant. Downtown Lexington just got an upgrade and I'm all here for it! I'm very much looking forward to cashing in on my free Queso for a year by being one of the first 24 people there. Keep up the good work, TakoSushi Lexington! I'm cheering for you! We had such great experience at the new Takosushi in Lexington! The service was fantastic and so was the food! The asparagus are my favorite I forgot to take a picture of them! I got another favorite the crazy roll! The potstickers were good along with the tuna tartar. The margarita was good. They had great happy hour specials. So I was asked to go back to the spot and give it another try. Went back last night with hopes that this place figured some things out. I'm not sure how but somehow they got much worse. The food is just beyond bad. I didn't really see anything on the menu that was all that appealing so I got a very simple quesadilla and was going to call it a night. The charred briquet that they brought out to me that was formally known as a quesadilla was inedible. I politely asked if one could be brought back out that wasn't quite as charred. What returned was an obvious petty response by the kitchen staff which was a quesadilla with barely any ingredients in it. Which actually worked out because the ingredients inside were so salt it was basically a Morton Salt commercial. The rice served on the side is best described as parboiled, but only done about halfway. The hard chew on rice is a trend I hope does not catch on. I was thinking about taking a bowl home to use as a reloader for shotgun shells. And the refried beans were just terrible. I really don't know how you can mess up pinto beans. A five-year-old can make those halfway decent. It's hard to believe that you can have a restaurant based on two different cuisines and really stink at both. They just add barbecue to the list and be at terrible at all three for the trifecta of bad food all around. read more

Do not go if you've got food sensitivities. I was brought the wrong order 2x! Interested? Read on. I ordered the chicken nachos and told the waitress NO DAIRY, so I asked her to omit the sour cream and queso but I wanted everything else. Gauc, lettuce, salsa. As a party of 6, we received our food about 30 minutes later. She brought mine out and it very clearly had melted shredded cheese on it, yet was missing everything else. She literally just brought out shredded cheese, chicken and chips. I mentioned it, to which she apologized and laughed making some joke about the kitchen staff not listening. She should have caught it before bringing it out. So while everyone else was enjoying, my correct replacement nachos arrived about 15 minutes later. Again, NO! While it still only had chicken on top of the chips there was shredded cheese all on the bottom of the chips. Still no guac, salsa or lettuce. Almost like they wanted to punish me. It looked like they just reused the plate! Goodness. By this time it was just embarrassing, I felt bad for the girl. I kindly showed her again... and yep awkward as she quickly ushered it away. My food arrived much quicker this time, yet within the 5 minutes it took, my friends were pretty much done eating. So 3rd times a charm right? Well they finally brought it out, but I swear the shredded chicken tasted a bit like shredded pork. Whatever, I scarfed it down because by this time it was almost 50 minutes of waiting. They still refused to top my nachos properly and when she brought out the guac and salsa, she didn't with, you guess it! Both were swimming in sour cream. Which is dairy. So I ate my plain, dry shredded chicken with chips for $16 and change. You'd think with all the screw ups, they'd at least given a courtesy discount? NOPE! The same waitress also mixed up the sushi rolls and my friends not realizing it until they had consumed about half. They were still charged for both rolls even though it was the waitresses fault. I wish I could give 0 star. Won't go there again. Obviously neither authentic nor fusion. Terrible food: Tempura is not using the right batter. Porksticker is okay, but just deep fried as in low end Asian restaurants (should be pan fried). Ramen is the worst I have ever had. Chicken breast is very dry. Noodle is mushy. Broth is worse than those in instant noodle. The egg is overcooked. Poke bowl is not good with only tuna, and rice is too sticky. Dessert: Mochi is again the worst I have even had. I bet you can get better mochi from grocery stores. Churros is fair, but not as good as most authentic Mexican restaurants or even food trucks. The waitress said the fish is good, but still not comparable to most Japanese restaurants around this area. Quite pricey and service is slow. It takes VERY VERY long waiting time for food. I would say you can make much better food by yourself using frozen food from grocery stores (like Trader Joe, Costco). At least the waiting time is long enough for you to do it (including shopping and cool). P.S. Tako means octopus in Japanese, they probably don't know. read more

Recently placed a To- Go Order and was told 25 minutes. While I waited 50 minutes for my order (not offered a drink or an apology for the wait) I had a perfect view of the chefs at the sushi counter preparing food. I had already paid for my sushi or I would have opted out of purchasing this order. One chef (who was not wearing gloves) rotated feeding himself, playing on his phone and handling the sushi with his bare hands. This cross contamination and lack of awareness had me appalled. I'm not sure if this place is under new management due to the lack of customer service, cleanliness, and all around lack of awareness but i will not be back.. read more

We've dined at this location since opening. On Friday in Lexington it is always busy and there are two bartenders and two sushi chefs. Food in restaurant is very slow . Took us an hour to get asparagus an hour extra to get our sushi. We love this location and the staff is friendly but the staff is always having to apologize for how long food takes and this has been the norm. I know they must be losing revenue by not turning over tables with the kitchen as slow as it is. I hope they will improve because it's a beautiful restaurant and great location. read more

My family went last night for the first time. I did not try any of Southwest dishes or "takos." My wife did have the hatch chile chicken tako, which she said tasted fine. The two pieces each of the magouri (tuna) and unagi (eel) were actual very good, as was my Hawaiian Roll. I also ordered a seaweed salad, a squid salad, tempura asparagus, and edamame We also ordered two Crazy Rolls and one Susan Roll. The problem with the edamame was that by the time we received the order, it was almost room temperature. Both the seaweed and squid salads contained so much celery, it is almost as of TakoSushi is trying to use it as a filler so as not to provide a good serving of the seaweed or squid, and the amount of celery also took asway form the flavor. The Susan and Crazy rolls also were supposed to have a tempura ingredient. We were extremely disappointed to see that the "tempura" was nothing more than breadcrumbs. It should be basic cuisine knowledge that coating food in breadcrumbs does not make the food tempura, which uses batter. I attempted to point this out to the manager, but my server kept telling me she was busy with other issues--I like to think customer satisfaction is pretty important. read more

Went this past week during happy hour. Service was spot on . They had a $3 taco for a special. Also a fried sushi roll $9. Also free chips and salsa, & I had free chips & queso for bring one of the 1st 25 customers during grand opening. The taco was a hatch chile chicken taco. Wife is a vegetarian so they replaced the chicken with beans no problem. Everything was delicious. So 5 tacos, sushi roll, and free chips and salsa& queso. Bill $25, can't beat that. read more

We went to dinner there tonight. The restaurant just opened a couple of weeks ago and was recommended. We sat at the bar. our tempura asparagus appetizer arrived 25 minutes after we ordered it and 7 minutes after our sushi. We each ordered 3 glasses of the same wine. They never brought the extra ginger we ordered and wouldn't entertain the idea of changing us for a bottle of wine instead of by the glass because we didn't order the bottle to begin with. Seems a simple thing for the server to suggest a bottle if you're both having the same wine. Some people might have said no, but it's a shame we asked and they said absolutely not. It would have been a difference of about $27 on a $150 dollar dinner. We will not be back. read more
