Inakaya Watanabe Japanese Restaurant 655 St. Andrew Rd. Columbia SC

This place is fantastic. I love their menu. Service is great. I would eat there everyday if I could! I wish they would bring back another lunch day...Thursday maybe!

My sushi and sashimi combo with two fish of the day.

Visiting Columbia, SC for the weekend and stumbled across this wonderful restaurant near our accommodation. It's apparently popular with the locals and we had some friendly folks help us out with getting our names written down because they were busy. Being a Friday night we probably waited 20-25mins to be seated. They offer the sushi bar or tables, we opted for either and got the sushi bar which was great because we got front row seats to the fish on display that the chefs use for the dishes. I got myself an Asahi Draught and my wife got a green tea. Both fresh and delicious. Our waitress was very nice. The food was delightful and very flavorful. Sushi and sashimi combos, with some salad and a soup. We topped it off with some dessert - which for any sweet tooth fans out there, I highly recommend. And it was all quite cheap. We were very impressed with everything and highly recommend folks try this place.

This little gem is the best kept secret in Columbia for sushi. The sushi is phenomenal. Upon entry, you're greeted and quickly taken to a table. My glass was always filled, the appetizers were prompt, and the sushi was excellent. It's well lit and has a family feel to it. I'm also a sucker for a food story, which is on the front of the menu. Please go in a check it out and pay your respect to the head man in charge. You can find him behind the sushi bar providing excellent service! This is the only place I go to for sushi and I recommend it to anyone! Enjoy!

Pork cutlet gyudon

So good and so unassuming, in the same plaza as the dmv, we got too gyudon bowls one with beef and one with pork, plenty of soup on the bottom maybe just a little less for ratio balance... The sushi chefs are very friendly and has been around for a while... I felt like you can taste the difference and the authenticity, can't wait to go back to get some sushi and rolls!

Atmosphere isn't very inviting and we had a wait. Ended up at sushi bar next to a couple clearly on their first date. Sushi was good. I was just told this place was amazing so had to try it and wasn't overly impressed. Maybe it was talked up too much. My rock'n roll was delicious! Flower roll was pretty but lacked much flavor. Husband enjoyed his rainbow roll and (black or red, he couldn't remember) dragon roll.

Takoyaki Maki

From the outside, it's a plain building with a plain sign. From the inside? Amazing. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. All the staff that I met were very friendly. We had a server named Nathan who was so patient, explained some of the menu items to us and even offered us some recommendations. The food will not disappoint! The sushi is fresh and prepared beautifully. We had the Godzilla roll, Firecracker roll, black dragon roll, and takoyaki maki. I didn't think I would like the red pickled ginger on the takoyaki maki, but I was wrong. Definitely takes it up a notch. One thing I really liked was that my sushi was brought out one roll at a time. We got to taste and experience one roll before jumping to the next. I can't wait to go back. There were so many other options that I wanted to try.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Columbia, hands down. There are some decent places out there, but this is the winner. The service is always fast and friendly, and the waitstaff knows the menu very well for people like me who are not exactly sushi experts. The restaurant is quiet, with low music playing in the background. The perfect place to go have a nice dinner and conversation. This is also my son's favorite restaurant! Enjoy!

Best restaurant in Columbia. I will never not talk about this place. Me and my boyfriend go here once a week (sometimes 2 times a week). Everyone who works there knows us and what we'll order. We LOVE LOVE LOVE inakaya watanabe! The sashimi is amazing! If you want to try appetizers, try the ika geso karage or the baked mussels (its to die for). We've tried their omakase as well, we loved it. The fried cheescake for dessert is also the best way to end the meal.

As someone who has not had alot of sushi but wants to try new things, what suggestions do you all have about trying things here? I can't wait to go to this restaurant!

You can't go wrong with the Red Dragon it's a tempura fried tuna roll served with raw tuna on top with a tangy vinaigrette sauce and scallions on top. It is so delicious I have never seen anyone that has tried it dislike it in anyway!

I live in Columbus and haven't had the options like CO has. We shared a green papaya salad, and it was delicious! I would eat an entire bowl by myself. Don't forget to tear up the basil - it completes the flavor! We got the Lotus, Lemon, Firecracker, Sesame and Pork Belly sushi rolls. That is the order I would rank the rolls in flavor. It is a shame if anyone uses shoyu (sou sauce) or even wasabi when eating these rolls. The lotus has a rice paper wrap (for those who don't like seaweed) and an aioli on top that was so refreshing and flavorful. The lemon was honestly a very close second - maybe even a tie for first. I don't normally like salmon but it was so fresh and the lemon slice was refreshing and clean!

Well welll well ... yelp family this Alli-G Roll we better than expected lol ... fried to perfection. I highly recommend ... the food bowl was delivered and I could still se the steam which I loved ... all the veggies were fresh fresh you could taste it. The snapper was amazing also. This spot leaves the extra seasoning up to you ... BUT your table has a bottle of yum yum sauce and you don't have to keep asking. Most importantly they are not stingy on the portions. I had half of my sushi rolls left and half of my bowl. Kudos to the staff also with the recommendations and setting the expectation of the dishes. They also worked as a team ... one waiter didn't see our drinks on the table and immediately asked if we put our order in. This was def worth the 35 min drive from the other side of town be sure to check them out. And another round of applause for the staff. I'll be back SOON .

The fried rice and chicken combo hits exactly the way you want it to: flavorful, slightly indulgent, and satisfying without being overly heavy. What really keeps me coming back, though, is the bar. That's about what I though too. It was really weird because we went at 4:30 PM and there was no one in the restaurant. It said to wait to be seated. We stood by the counter for about ten minutes waiting to be seated in a completely empty restaurant. The staff working just kind of looked at us like we were lost. Anyway, ordered spring rolls and they were $5.50 for two pretty small ones. Also, very greasy. I got the Singapore Noodles with chicken. It was okay. I kind of felt like I could make it at home. My girlfriend got Philadelphia Sushi and Shrimp. She said they all tasted like it came from a grocery store. I agreed. Columbia has a lot of Sushi restaurants. I'd skip this one.

The drinks were blended very well and used fresh lime juice, which was nice. The appetizers -- the kimchi fries and the boneless wings were pretty standard. The fries were crunchy, but we felt like there was more cheese than there was kimchi and sauce, so we've had better kimchi fries elsewhere. The cheese was very gooey though. The boneless wings weren't as crunchy as they could have been, especially coming out in a stone dish, but the garlic soy sauce was still pretty good. Our mains were really good -- the japchae, which I ordered with fried tofu, had the right texture and flavor, and was delicious yet spicy. The tofu was a little bland though. My partner enjoyed the squid and pork belly dish and said that the sauce was similar to the japchae sauce. The portions were pretty normal and not too big, so we had a few leftovers but not too many.
