I recently tried Suishaya in Columbia, and this spot is so good. I really enjoyed everything I ordered. From the fresh, flavorful yellowtail appetizer topped with jalapeño and roe to the beautiful variety of sushi rolls, every dish was delicious and clearly made with care. The restaurant itself is a nice size--comfortable and spacious enough to work well for small groups without feeling crowded. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had a great experience from start to finish. I only wish I lived closer or that there was a location near me because I would definitely be a regular. I'll absolutely be back whenever I'm in the area again. read more

Suishaya is VERY close to my house, but I think I'll stick to going way into downtown for dining. Pros: - Price is relatively fair - Sake was cheap and good Cons: - Rude Staff - Very Okay to poor food - Menu is MASSIVE. (Where's Gordon Ramsey to yell?!) There is easily 300 things to order on the menu - Food tasted bland Someone said it best in a review on here "the food was prepared like any other Chinese shop, just twice the price". That's about what I though too. It was really weird because we went at 4:30 PM and there was no one in the restaurant. It said to wait to be seated. We stood by the counter for about ten minutes waiting to be seated in a completely empty restaurant. The staff working just kind of looked at us like we were lost. Anyway, ordered spring rolls and they were $5.50 for two pretty small ones. Also, very greasy. I got the Singapore Noodles with chicken. It was okay. I kind of felt like I could make it at home. I came in recently for the first time and had a great experience. I had the strawberry lemon drop to drink and it was fab. We ordered the crab rangoons as an appetizer and those were tasty. I love Suishaya. This is my go to place for sushi or a quick lunch with a friend. It's always clean inside and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. I love the hot and sour soup with the crispy won ton strips. It does have a little kick! In addition to the soup, I'll usually order the jalapeño tempura which is AMAZING! It's a jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese and crab meat and fried--also not spicy. Another fav is the fried gyoza. The Columbia roll is great and said it be spicy but it's not spicy at all to me. The fresh jalapeño is very mild but I love crunch and the crab meat (it's fried!) For drinks, my favs are the lychee martini or green tea shot! Whatever you order, you can't go wrong! The noodles were cooked perfectly al dente. I ate the whole roll, it was big. This first time having a roll wrapped in rice paper, pink rice paper. It was crunchy (crab tempura) and tasty. Our ROMEO group of 7 went here for the first time today. We had orders for General Tso Chicken (5), Broccoli Beef, and 2 Maki orders. The Chicken was very good, great fried rice along with it. The one order of beef said he had a couple of pieces of beef that were just so-so. The American Maki was great...and the Spicy Crab Maki also very good. .Nice atmosphere. Food came out quickly. Service was good. I had the Miso soup and we also had an order for the hot and spicy soup. Both of the soups were great. All in all the ratings varied from (2) 4.0s, (2) 5.0s, with (4) 4.5s. NOT WORTH YOUR TIME. Ambiance was nice. I didn't restaurant hidden behind both Chick-fil-A and a tree to be a serious dining establishment. Especially considering they are connected to a firehouse sub & a nail salon. Unfortunately that's the nicest thing I have to say. Rice was terrible. The food was prepared like any other Chinese takeout shop but twice the price. Everything drowned in gravy/sauce & plated with the rice in a difficult to eat from bowl along side a single faux flower- I guess to try and be fancy. Flavor was average, not bad at all. But the food is not made fresh; I know because everyone at my table received their main dish in less than 5 minutes of ordering. If your order is made wrong, please don't expect that it will be rectified without an up charge on your bill...even if the menu has clearly outlined in the description what's included with the meal. According to the owner "the menu company made them wrong and because there's so many items on the menu no one has time to go over them nor place a correction with the menu company. Okay honey? If you don't like how the meal is prepared then it will be an up charge to add/change it". One person literally received no broccoli with their meal that said "on a bed of broccoli". Then when we asked for it you could hear the staff arguing with the waitress over it which resulted in the arrival of literally 3 pieces of broccoli. And a nonsensical explanation after asking for more It's 2 stars instead of 1 because the waitress was nice and knowledgeable. I like the place overall. I keep more to the traditional Chinese menu than the sushi as a practice. The waitress actually asked me if I wanted a to go cup for my cocktail, which I politely declined. That's a great way to lose a liquor license or business license... Those DHEC health scores listed on yelp give me some pause.. Offering a to go cup for liquor drinks give me a lot more pause on their "best practices." This will be my only courtesy notice on the subject for them. The place is small. It's in a shopping center with some high traffic fast food so I never knew it was here. I got a suggestion from a friend so I stopped by. I had take out. The young lady up front was polite and quick to step up when I enter the door. They have a full bar. When you enter it looks smaller than it is but there is a little more seating in the back. Still not very big. I had the Godzilla roll and Philadelphia Maki. They were quick. I was told it would be about 15 minutes it was more like 7 or 8. The Godzilla was tasty. I like it a little more firm though, this one was a little mushy. If I worked close I may go back for lunch with coworkers but I'm not going out of my way to return. A $20 Disaster: The Sushi That Ruined My Vacation I have eaten a lot of sushi in my life, but never have I encountered anything as offensively bad as what this place served me. For nearly $20 per roll, I was expecting something at least edible--instead, I was served rubbery, overcooked shrimp wrapped in revolting, flesh-toned soy bean paper that looked (and tasted) like it had been sitting in a damp storage closet for months. To make matters worse, every roll was doused in their so-called "chef's special sauce"--a vile, gloopy abomination that tasted like expired mayonnaise mixed with regret. But the real horror began hours later when the food poisoning kicked in, wrecking my vacation and stealing away precious time with my family that I will never get back. Instead of making memories, I was curled up in agony, regretting every dollar I wasted on this overpriced disaster of a meal. The vibe in this restaurant is elegant. They have cloth tablecloths and nice decorations. We ordered the Incredible and Dragon Maki rolls and enjoy them. They were freshly prepared and delicious. We also got plum wine to go with our meal and it was a beautiful compliment to our meal. We ordered the vanilla fried ice cream and was not impressed. It tasted as if the ice cream was old and frost bitten while the fried part of it tasted as if it was fried in the same oil as the shrimp and other entree items. lol this place isn't a sushi restaurant at all. When we first came here looking through Yelp I only looked at the stars and not the amount of reviews.. we were sat as soon as we came. Already felt off since they were selling keychains and gas station items on the counter.. the guy that serviced us was rude too.. just yelling at us like "what you want?" Just looking at the menu, it screamed out Chinese fast food. We ordered the sashimi combo platter, spicy tuna and cucumber maki rolls. Who puts sushi rice as a glue to put on top of the plate?! Hot and sour soup was quite good, the specialty sushi roll was also good; however, the sashimi was poor quality (inconsistent cuts, lower quality fish with threads of fat running through it) and the shumai was average. They have a very large menu and you need to find those menu items they do a great job with. Everything is amazing! We indulged in the Huma Beef and Angry Dragon Suish our 1st visit. Our 2nd visit we had the Huma Beef, again. No need to fight perfection. My husband and I went to Suishaya and received horrible service! First off the waitresses were being overly friendly with my husband which was highly disrespectful especially when we were there with our 6 month old baby! They had no respect for our marriage! I do not remember the second waitress's name but the one who was assigned to our table was Tori. They messed up our order twice inside the restaurant and when we ordered our to go order. We noticed our to go was not what we asked for when we got home, called in, and they were not listening to what we were saying because we had to correct them multiple times. They told us to bring the food back and they'll give us our correct order. We drive back way to the other side of town and we're told we have to pay an additional $7 because they're swapping out the plate! Their reason was because they had to make us an order that was not on the receipt! The waitress was so worried about my husband she did not put down the right order! They also said their reason was because they couldn't make the same USUAL RICE SERVED ALL DAY because "it was dinner time and the rice is different." My husband and I went at 1pm. Fried rice is fried rice! We told them that we shouldn't pay $7 because that is not right and doesn't make sense because they were at fault by messing up our order several times.
