Hibachi Grill was the first restaurant that my husband and I tried here in Sumter. After an extremely long day of traveling we found Hibachi Grill on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We were both extremely hangry upon entering the tiny restaurant luckily there was available seating. The waitress quickly took our drink order and returned with two large glasses of water. Feeling ravenous, we automatically ordered two house salads ($2.50 each) and two orders of egg rolls ($1.95 each). For the price of these appetizers I wasn't expecting much but they actually turned out pretty tasty. The salad was essentially bagged iceberg lettuce however, their ginger dressing was on point. The egg rolls were more like spring rolls but were nicely fried and crispy. After eating our appetizers we ordered our entrees and both went with the teriyaki steak (only $6.95!!!!!!!!). Our entrees were cooked and served quickly despite the resturant and take out line starting to become quite busy. The teriyaki steak was tender and juicy, served with seasoned fried rice, sautéed broccoli, and sweet carrots. They also give you a large container of yum yum sauce (Japanese mayo) in case you want to drown your food in it like we saw some people doing. (Not judging, you do ya thang.) I went thru the drive thru and got filet mignon. Everything was delicious!! As for the service I was very impressed. Since I had ordered at the drive thru window a lady asked me to pull out and come back in 5 minutes. Totally reasonable so I set my timer and moved to a space on the large parking lot. Before the five minutes was up the gentleman that had taken my order walked to me and gave me my food. That's going above and beyond! read more

This place looks abandoned and out of business on the outside. There's two entrances (one on the right is not useable so don't park there) park near the piggly wiggly parking lot side. I came right at 11:50. (Good time bc after I ordered, a lot of lunch customers started pouring in) I thought it was mainly a Togo place but they cater to dine in also. Ordered the shrimp and chicken. Chicken was a little over cooked (crisp) but shrimp was really good. I got the zucchini and onion instead of carrots. It was very good and filling for $9.95! I think it's a better value than mon japan. I shall try the sushi next time. Service was very fast. There's also a drive thru area which is pretty unique for a Hibachi place. Well the description,,"looks like it is closed couldn't be more right even though I read this, when I pulled up to the light and looked I really thought "well it is closed" as I pulled around to the Piggly Wiggly side of the restaurant I could then tell it was not closed. The out side needs a paint job,, you guys would get your money back in probably 2 months because of people just passing on the look or thinking your closed. With that said,, it's a lot nicer on the inside the Teriyaki Chicken I substituted Zuchini and onions for the standard broccoli and carrots. It was really good, I eat this at several Hibachi restaurants across the state and it was as good as any. The waitress couldn't have been better, with tip and all I was still under 11 bucks, when I'm back in the area I would definitely come back. Well that's my 2 cents read more

I ask for my food cooked in teriyaki and light spicy every time I come up there. I even ask for extra sauces on the side because I know it will come up wrong. They charge 50 cents for the sides and not only is my food never cooked in the sauce but they charge me for the side sauces and I never get them! read more

I can't believe that anyone gave this place a good review other than the wait staff is very friendly and helpful. One star is one too many. We had the miso soup, the gyosa and hibachi shrimp (which comes with "fried" rice, carrots and broccoli. The soup was unidentifiable and the rest of the food was not good at all. Aside from the fact that it's a cheap place I can't imagine anyone wanting to come back. I could care less about the the condition of the ceiling and that the front Broad Street facing windows are covered... I like going to a place where the people know your name... I grew up in Sumter, and I absolutely crave the teriyaki chicken plate from this place. The carrots are sweet and delicious, and the pink sauce is just...so good. This place is a favorite with locals, and I'd imagine that people from the military base frequent it as well. The sweet is also amazing. read more

Surprisingly Good! This is a real "Hidden Treasure" it is small inside, and it is an older building, but it is clean, and the staff are very nice, and the food is very very good. I would not necessarily call it Japanese though, (I lived in Okinawa for 3 and a half years and 14 other countries for various amounts of time, Go Army) so with that being said I can honestly say I have found no restraints in Sumter I would call authentic Japanese. This is one of my favorites in Sumter. The service is good and the food excellent. The Sushi selection is a little limited, but this is not a big restaurant and what they serve is always fresh and really good. Their Crunch Roll is an especial favorite, but the small selection of nigiri is also good and well thought out. The biggest attraction of this place is the price, which is super reasonable for such good quality. This is a small but great restaurant. The menu is comparable to most Japanese restaurants of this style. The service is extremely fast, friendly, and the food comes quickly. Great prices! You get a great portion of food for the price you pay. They easily have the best sweet tea in Sumter. All food is very fresh and you can literally watch them prepping it. We have seen the team in the back making shrimp sauce and on another occasion preparing the fried rice. You can also watch them make your food after you order. I see one negative review for Hibachi Grill & Buffet, this is NOT the buffet. I see one negative review saying they do not have sushi. They do have a great selection of sushi, made fresh, and great. Tried this place out for dinner last night. I was initially worried (I will admit I was "judging a book by its cover")... the outside looked iffy. I'm so glad I gave it a chance--the crab angel sushi roll was excellent!!! My boyfriend got the steak and shrimp rice place and it was great as well. The service could not have been better, our waitress was extremely helpful and the food was fast and the food was very fairly priced. I couldn't have asked for a better experience (EXCEPT I would have LOVED some crab Rangoon which they do not have on the menu!!!!!). read more

Decent selection on the buffet and mongolian BBQ is a great feature to have as part of a all you can eat place. Steer clear of the sushi (duh at a place like this). One of the best features was the ice cream & desserts which included little Debbie oatmeal cream pies - classic end to all u can eat Chinese. If you like rice, grilled meat, and really divine sweet carrots, this is the place for you! The food is simple. but it's good! You get more than most people can eat in your order. Their sweet tea is usually good as well. If you go inside (though it is a bit small) the people make up for the size. The staff are always friendly, and usually make my children smile/giggle. 1 word of advice, If you want your food fast call ahead. I've never had to wait when I call ahead, even when I arrived 5 minutes later! Just grab a menu and keep it in the car! That way you can have your yummy food and be home in a flash! read more

After reading reviews we decided to try this place since we are new to the area and have not been lucky so far to experience good food. What a HUGE mistake!! We ordered the chicken, steak, and shrimp special. This place used non fresh veggies my chicken was DRY as dirt, steak was like RUBBER, and the shrimp was like CARDBOARD! My husband's order was NO different. I felt ILL after the second bite. We are military and have experienced a lot, I must say this was one of the worse! Maybe this food is good for the locals, but by warning if you are visiting Sumter or just passing through AVOID HIBACHI GRILL definitely not worth a dime! SADLY I couldn't rate it ZERO! I went here to have dinner tonight. It was early and the resturant was not crowded as only 2 tables were occupied and no cars were in the drive through. I sat and waited...and waited...and waited. No one even acknowledged my presence. There were at least 6 workers in the back. One table was leaving. Someone range up their dinner and collected from their money. Another person came out and cleared the table and went back into the kitchen. I still was ignored. No one ever came to take my order, or even tell me they would be with me shortly. I was completely ignored. After 10-15 minutes, i got up to leave. I told them on my way out that they needed to pay attention to their customers in house as I had been waiting a while. No one even apologized. I do not plan to ever visit again. Extremely disappointed and angry at the non existent service. read more
