Food is really great, always fresh. I have only ever ordered to go from Koi so I cannot speak to the restaurant dining experience however every time I come to pick up my food it ends up taking an extra 30-60 minutes after the estimated time for my food to be ready. The food and sushi here has always been great for us. The food is always prepared fresh and the flavors are good. Also they don't overdo it on the sushi with too much rice. Some of our favorite foods to order are the avocado salad, teriyaki steak dinner, California roll, summer roll, and volcano roll. The option to order online quickly is great since it saves our previous orders that we can order again. The orders are always ready by the time we get there (about 20 mins). This is a really interesting little spot. We had been out all day and were passing by Chapin so wanted to see if there was any place that could feed us. I think other than the cook staff, one lady was running the entire place by herself. She was awesome but it wasn't a slow night. She was busy but calm and still friendly. There was a kid curled up who looked like he might have been family, which was fine, just something to be aware of. The food was great, came out fast, and wasn't terribly expensive. My sushi was fresh and well done. I will echo what other reviewers have mentioned. The menu doesn't really actually tell you what you are going to get. My order was a happy surprise, I got way more nigiri than I expected but the menu was very vague about what I was going to get. That's my only one off star. The food was good but the service was lacking. We placed a Togo order at 7:15 and the estimated time was 30 min. We ended up waiting an hour and a half for our food just for them to say that they accidentally gave our food to someone else and had to remake it. We ordered take out. The sesame chicken is very good but I would not recommend the pepper steak. The chicken was tender and flavorful, not dried out. The pepper steak was not good. The steak was rubbery and the onions and peppers could have been cooked a little more. read more

Koi has really good Sushi. It's pretty close to my house and that's why I first discovered it. The 4 stars comes just for 2 reasons. 1. The online menu doesn't have descriptions of the sushi rolls, the website doesn't list what sushi roll is under what picture, so I always end up just ordering the same thing because I don't know what's in some of the rolls, 'Crazy Girl Roll' sounds awesome, but is it eyeballs and tongue? I don't know. 2. When you order it's typically a 30+ minute wait for your order. I get that sushi takes time to properly prepare, but it doesn't lend itself to ordering on a whim. I live outside of town, so sometimes I just want to order, grab it and head home. That said, everything I have had is delicious and the people are super friendly. The food is amazing and fresh. They have a variety of rolls and my favorite is the koi roll and Alaska roll. Their hibachi dishes are plentiful and tasty and always hit the spot. Sometimes there aren't many servers so the wait is longer, but it's fun to linger and not be rushed. read more

So the first time I ordered Togo here it was okay. Not great but not bad. This time...man everything was bad. I ordered a salmon roll and every piece was broken before I even opened the box (and no it didn't fall in my car) and then I ordered the Singapore rice noodles which is supposed to have a spicy curry sauce. There was no sauce on my meal so it was super bland with plain noodles and bland veggies + meat. Pleasantly surprised by this place. Wasn't sure what to expect for my first time but walking in you immediately get hit with quite a relaxing ambiance. Lights down low, very clean/spacious restaurant. Even though it was dinner time I was shocked there wasn't a lot of people eating in, only 2 other tables were taken. I got the shrimp tempura roll and sesame chicken plate (pregnant so I can't dig into the raw stuff right now) but everything I got was very warm, delicious, roll was packed very nicely it didnt fall apart as you picked it up. The chicken plate was very hot (temp) just the way I like it. Plenty of food, prices were very fair based on the portion size. I liked this place and glad this town has a sushi spot we can go back to! read more

Looking for oriental food in Chapin, go here. Not great but it's the best Chapin has to offer. Everything about Koi's food says mediocrity. I've had their Bento meals, various dishes and of course sushi. As in most places in this part of the country (and I am a Southerner born and bred), foods that states " spicy" are not. This includes, to my sorrow, the Spicy Tuna. Roll. In short, it's decent. Portions are smaller too but that's not a huge problem for me. read more

I'm splitting my rating in the middle because the food was very good, but the service was soooooo slooooooow. When we went in, there were only two other tables seated. It took about 10 minutes for someone to even come over and take our drink order (we were about to get up and leave). Then once they did that, it was about another 15 minutes to come back and take our order. Ordered dinner there today. First time eating here. Wasn't impressed at all. Definitely eat there for lunch the prices for dinner for the portion are ridiculous. Definitely had better then Koi. I was hoping it was really good but it was just average. Should of saved money and cooked at home. I didn't order sushi so I can't say anything about that. Even though Publix's has good sushi. I'd love to be able to write a positive review of my dining experience but unfortunately we were left with a very bad impression. The wonton soup was good and the sushi was prepared well but the "hibachi" was absolutely subpar. The ribeye steak came out whole which was impossible to eat. Ribeye is not a cut of meat that should ever be considered for hibachi . There is way too much fat that needs to be cut out. There was a pile of raw onions on the plate and some soggy zucchini sitting in a swamp of pale flavorless sauce on the plate. We informed our server promptly that we did not care for the dish and asked her to take it off of the table. She then proceeded to bring the check with the dish still listed for full price. I brought the check to register to explain that I had no intention of paying full price for that dish. The server then argued with me and told me that if I did not like the dish that I had to tell her before I ordered it! I'm so confused... I explained that I should not have to pay for an inedible dish and she through a big attitude about it. After going back and fourth with her she very reluctantly agreed to take 20% Of that dish. I I've been in the restaurant business for over 20 years . If it guess is not happy with a dish and the complaint is legitimate they should not have to pay for it . I am the corporate executive chef of a major food service company. Hospitality is my life, I have never in my life left a restaurant with out leaving a gratuity but I had no choice tonight. After waiting for a few months after it opened we decided to give Koi a try. We were pleasantly surprised. We decided to just try a few appetizers like the gyoza, lettuce wraps and tempura.
