Tried this place for lunch and I would definitely recommend. I got a the salmon platter lunch deal. It's a great deal. Fish was so fresh and decent size. I would definitely go back. I also got the Futo Roll and Katsu Don. Futo was refreshing but not the same as the ones I usually get. I would probably skip this one next time. Katsu Don is good. This business has been open for five days! The interior is well done with its minimal decor. There is ample seating and being so new we had the place to ourselves. They brought out a sampler of fish/mango/tomatoes in a tempura mix that we all enjoyed which was complimentary of the restaurant opening. I ordered the shrimp and scallops hibachi. I wasn't so pleased with this dish. They do not have the hibachi tables for them to prepare so if you're into the preparation happening, just know it won't happen here. The dish was saltier than expected and I thought the scallops and shrimp were over cooked. I thought the portion size was appropriate since I'll have plenty for leftovers. I would come back to try the sushi! Colors were vibrant and the rolls appeared to be tightly rolled. They slightly missed the mark on cutting them even. First time ever ordering from here and we got takeout. Ordered Gyoza, a crunchy shrimp roll, and a Badger Roll. Food was ready to go when we picked it up and still warm when we got home! The gyoza was perfectly fried and the dipping sauce was super flavorful. The crunchy shrimp roll was so tasty but the real star was the Badger Roll! We were longtime fans of Takara on State Street so we were pretty thrilled to see this pop up within walking distance! Food is fresh and flavorful with lots of choices. Quick and friendly service. The best sushi place in Madison!!! I have tried other Japanese places but they seem to have the best quality Japanese cuisine in town! We tried Takoyaki which is a fried ball of octopus bits. Reminds me of when i had it in Tokyo. We then got calamari which was fried fresh and tasted good. For the finale we got a spicy salmon roll and and cucumber eel roll, both of which tasted fresh and the presentation was spectacular! 5/5 will be back!! read more

For our first indoor dining since early 2020, this was an AMAZING choice! A little tricky to find due to nearby construction, this spot is worth a bit of effort :). Our excellent experience started when we called for directions, the person on the phone was kind and patient and gave great directions. At first, we were the only diners in the restaurant, and the staff were all still wearing their masks which made us feel very comfortable. The menu is extensive, and it smells like good food immediately on arrival. The server/host was friendly and welcoming without being overbearing. We ordered 4 rolls (spider, spicy scallop, something with salmon on top, and something else that I don't remember), edamame, miso, and the white wine (the New Zealand Sav Blanc, I forget the name). Everything was expertly prepared, served efficiently, and was completely delicious. Highly recommend and look forward to visiting again soon. Small other note - shortly after we arrived, the staff started playing very loud top-40 type music into the dining space, which a) doesn't really fit the atmosphere; and b) was making conversation difficult. I like Bruno Mars, but it's kind of jarring at top volume. We asked if they might not turn it down or turn on something else - and they DID, no questions asked, I think they turned something else on later, much more quietly, that was better. I've ordered a half dozen times from this place now. Good sushi for a decent price. I've liked the spicy tuna roll, shogun roll, eel and cucumber roll, futo roll, and avocado roll. They forgot one of our rolls one time. Didn't realize until I got home with the order. But generally very reliable for service and price. (I've only ever ordered take out.) Will continue to order and try new specialty rolls. read more

We just moved to Cottage Grove/Madison and have been looking for a good sushi spot. I ordered the 3 roll lunch combo and it was great! I thought the sushi rice was perfect - not the usual mushy, compacted rice you often see. It was also a great balance between the rice and fish. I had the whitefish and cucumber roll, spicy shrimp tempura roll, and spicy tuna roll. All the fish was fresh and the tempura crunchy. Overall - great quality for the price. My family will make this our go-to sushi spot near Cottage Grove. I'd probably eat here at least once a week if I could :) read more

Well. They didn't fill the order. They missed an appetizer entirely. It took 90 minutes for carry out. The only reason we got it in that time was we threatened to cancel the order. On top of that the quality of what we did receive was sup par to be polite. Rolls fell apart. Seaweed salad which they call a different name is nominal at best. Go to Red Singapore instead. No chopsticks or utensils. The best thing they have is a sharper "wasabi". Get your stuff together or close up shop. The place almost sucks. It's better than gas station sushi but not by much. read more

We enjoyed our dinner there this evening. I ordered the House Seafood Tempura that included a cup of wonderful Miso soup, the House Salad with ginger dressing and white rice. The miso broth with white bean curd, seaweed and scallions was light and refreshing. It was soon followed by a large platter filled with lightly tempura battered shrimp, skewers of whitefish, scallops, whole mushrooms, broccoli florets and sweet potato slices. All was fresh and very well prepared and presented. My spouse was equally pleased with the Shrimp Tempura. Service was excellent and the food was very good. We'll be back! read more

Decent sushi, but there is better/more creative in Madison. The fish was fresh. The soft shell crab in the spider roll was not fried crisp, but rather had a thick, soggy batter. It seems like it was not fried at a high enough temperature. The place was clean and smelled fresh upon entering. The host was not wearing a mask when we entered, not did he put one on when we entered, despite other patrons eating there. This is in spite of the current Dane County mask mandate. I looked this place up on Yelp looking for my go-to sushi place. This place is tucked away but very cheap prices. The sizes of the rolls are smaller, but so are the prices, so it's a good bang for the buck. The "premiere" rolls (or whatever they call them...chef specials, etc) are much more expensive but also much larger. I'll be going back! read more

I don't usually write reviews, but when I do I'm either really pleased or really disappointed. Today was a really pleased one. We were very excited there was a new sushi place close to us and eager to try it. I haven't had sushi since I became pregnant and now that I have a little one, I was excited for sushi! I had a tuna poke bowl which was almost too pretty to eat! Flavorful and filling! The miso soup was good as well! My husband had some sushi rolls and we shared an appetizer and a hand roll. All were delicious!! It was a bit pricey but worth the money and a little bit of a wait. Customer service was great, very friendly staff and was even helped carrying it to my car! The place looked clean and quaint inside, so I'd be interested in dining in sometime! All in all, we're definitely going to go back! Best sushi we've had in a long time! read more

We ordered from this establishment as everyone in our neighborhood was raving about it. My husband chose the beef nagimaki and sushi deluxe. I ordered the house seafood tempura and gyoza. The beef nagimaki was very tough and hard to chew and very unappetizing. My husband stated the sushi was okay but nothing to really rave about. My tempura was very greasy which means it wasn't cooked properly at the right temperature. I was supposed to get a miso soup with my order, but they neglected to put it in my takeout. My husband's meal also included miso soup so I tasted his and I have had much better tasting miso soup in my life and this tasted old. The gyoza was also extremely greasy. The side salad that came with my meal was a joke. If you are going to offer this as part of a meal, at least make it look appetizing with some green lettuce and not pale lettuce. I ended throwing it away. A huge disappointment for spending $50 plus on our meals. Needless to say, we won't be ordering from them again. read more
