I really enjoyed the sushi here. Everything was tasty and super fresh. The gyoza was fine; the seaweed salad was on point; and the desserts were really good. I also liked the veggie tempura. The only miss was the yakitori - which was okay, but not as good as I had hoped for (everything else gave too high expectations). Service was wonderful, as well. I've done takeaway here many times, and even before when it was a Thai restaurant. I've always been happy with everything. The restaurant looks lovely, warm, clean, and understated. Now that I hear they have an amazing fish tank, I must dine in-house next time. Today I went with takeaway and kept it simple: Agedashi Tofu and Ohitashi Spinach with Sesame (appetizers), and Chicken Soup with Spinach and Rice, as a takeaway. People, the food is authentic. Do not come here. This place was a joke. The food was horrible. The service took forever. It was way too expensive. I'm talking like five times more expensive for the worst sushi I've ever seen. I mean grocery store sushi beats this. The only reason you come here is to be a drunk at the bar there's a ton of loud assholes all drinking. I'm sure the language barrier makes it easy for them to just get wasted and never get cut off. All the food was horrible. Their food here is so good and I always love trying new things on the menu recommended by the amazing servers that always make conversation. My preferred dish is the scallion pancake which is always amazing but also, I love having a cool yummy mochi after every meal. The vibe is very nice with friendly people and nice music. After a 40min wait on a busy Friday night, food came out pretty quickly and service was friendly. Food was alright, nothing really wowed us... Fried Tofu app was plain and basic, could've used some creative dipping sauces or garnish. Only two spring rolls come with the app portion but at least they were crunchy. Dynamite Salmon was just two pieces, hard to share with more people, crab meat was meaty and sauce was not too spicy, but salmon was fresh. Udon noodles were good, a hint of spicy from the hot peppers but we asked for it to be absolutely not spicy for the kids. The Korean beef rice bowl was good, portion a bit small but tasty. The hot bowl makes the rice nice and crunchy if you let it burn. Otherwise overall food was good. read more

I write this review hoping that someone at this business reads it and takes a hard look at the product they produce. I want to see this business thrive because there simply is just nothing else in Medfield. I've had some wonderful experiences here but unfortunately they were years ago. In the past year the quality of the sushi at Takara has really gone downhill. Today I ordered a Make your own combo of Spicy Tuna and Spicy California rolls. When Takara was in its first few years of business they made the Spicy California roll with the sauce inside the roll, it was very good. Now, they serve it with a thick layers of spicy mayo, it's a ridiculous amount of sauce that completely drowns out the sushi. The layer of rice on the rolls were very thin, Takara really let me down. The spicy Tuna roll looked like cat food, why are they using such unappealing minced fish? This spicy Tuna roll had the sauce on the inside of the roll, this is appropriate because the sushi was not drowned by sauce. Also my Miso soup had 2 pieces of seaweed, hardly any tofu to a giant cup of soup. Takara has gone downhill. read more

Delicious sushi! This place really surprised me. I'm not from the area, and eat a lot of sushi, and was pleasantly surprise and how fresh, unique, and delicious everything was. On top of that, the service was very good - friendly and willing to suggest options for me (which I always ask). The only reason this is not 5-star is for the ambiance. The interior is clean, and the bar area is nice, but the dining area is rather drab. Could use a little design work inside. I look forward to going back! read more

On a busy Friday night, we waited 50 minutes for our takeout food. The quality was extremely disappointing, compared to the Wellesley location. We ordered Wellesley and Fancy dragon rolls. The fish was not fresh and the color was near brown rather than pink, and smelled rancid. Gyoza was burned, inedible. For the price we paid, this was not only highway robbery, but downright unsanitary . Cross this off my takeout list. read more

Cheap portions of meat and fish. Really disappointing. The shrimp in the shrimp tempura was TINY. The beef in the teriyaki lunch was minimal and fatty. The flavors were also flat. I've been to Takara many times and enjoy it but this last time will be my last for a long time. I ordered my usual Bibimbap. I didn't ask for the hot bowl but received it anyways (cost me extra $$). I let it slide. Then I started eating and found several large piece of tough grizzly meat. I tried to pick off edible pieces but to no avail. I put them aside and when the waitress came back I told her about the grizzly meat. I then handed her the dish of meat. She gave me a kind of blank stare said okay and walked away with the dish of grizzly meat. My son's bulgogi also has several pieces of bad meat as well. Bulgogi meat is suppose to be tender with no grizzle. She never came back with an apology neither did the manager...NOTHING!! I'm assuming it just got thrown away. So, I paid extra money for a hot dish that I didn't want with grizzly meat!! AWESOME!! read more

This review is for the Sushi, I have not tried anything else on the menu. The quality is very near the top on most days, on others it is still above avg. I have sampled about everything at the sushi bar, best picks are Toro, Scallop, Salmon Belly (you must ask, it's not on the menu), Uni, Mackarel. ...serving sizes are about avg, prices are a bit higher than most. Special Rolls and Maki Rolls are good , not great. The restaurant is clean, modern, the service is friendly and polite. The Sushi Chefs are very nice, and skilled with the knifes. read more

Takara is our go to place for Sushi and Drinks. The sushi is good, not the very best I have ever had but on the high end of good. There are some interesting and unusual maki rolls. The staff are wonderful! The restaurant is clean. Once Tek makes you a drink you'll be back and he will remember what you like :) As many others have said the Bibimbab bowls both hot and cold are awesome! I absolutely LOVE it here! My dad has been going for a while, but my first time going there was only a few months ago. I have already been there about 6 times, and each time has been fantastic. There sushi is truly out of this world. My personal favorites are the Medfield, Naruto, and the classic California roll. There facility is clean and efficient, and the staff is very friendly. We usually get take out, and once we arrive our food is always ready to go. I highly recommend, especially if you don't want to drive into the city for good sushi. Came here on a Monday and place was pretty empty. We ordered hamachi Kama and spicy seafood udon and several apps. Overall I thought it was sub par and food is nothing special. The seafood udon had pieces of frozen seafood in it. I asked for extra spicy and it wasn't spicy at all. The yakitori we ordered tasted like it was boiled and put on broiled for a couple minutes. I really like this place and it stands out among other local Asian places. They also have Korean food (well bibimbap) which is also very good. They have options for sushi that are all good and a lot of apps that have been good so far. I did not like the seaweed salad but everything else has been great. Okdol bibimbab, Hotate Yaki, and Crunchy Tuna are my favorites but I have never had a bad meal and I'm almost through the whole menu. I have debated this review for a long time. On the one hand in Medfield there are not too many options. On the other, for Boston prices, the bar could be higher. In the end, combination Asian restaurants always lose a star. A Japanese/Korean restaurant is a stretch. The Korean food is probably 4 stars but it is a sliver of the menu. It is not advertised this way, but many of the menu items are purely Korean. (The Bibimbap section - all signature Korean.) But on to the Japanese... I love great toro. And I will ways order it. But like Charlie Brown with Lucy and the football, the Toro here is always super chewy... Almost like silverskin layers in beef. I know it is supposed to be fatty, but they alway get the worst cut. Or horribly trimmed. Get Toro at Uni in Boston. For the same $15 you will get buttery smooth tuna. Here you have to force it down. A shame. I personally love amaebi. It is always on the menu here. And they never have it. I have asked probably 12 times in the last year... Never have it!?! Perhaps take it off the menu and make it a special. Try it yourself if you go here. Ask if they have Amaebi. We have been here many times and will be back. But it is the Chipotle of Japanese/Korean. OK, but not great. Places in boston put this place to shame... Oishii Boston or Chestnut Hill is comparably priced with a much higher quality. To me, the measure of a good Japanese restaurant above all is quality seafood... On this mark, two stars. Value, and service, two stars (too many forgotten orders and empty water glasses). Convenience for us is great... Just around the corner. But in the end, if you are making a trip for sushi, skip it. read more

I've lived in Medfield off and on for years, and Takara is one of the very few consistently, reliably high quality restaurants in this town. It's arguably the best restaurant in town (not that it's a high bar, since there's maybe a dozen restaurants in the entire town) - the only disappointing thing about it is that it replaced a fantastic Thai restaurant. I always get sushi, and just about every special roll I've tried has consisted of notably fresh ingredients, arguably the most important aspect of good sushi. 4 stars out of 5 because I've definitely had better, but considering the culinary ghost-town that is Medfield, you could do a lot worse. read more
