The food was good but not worth the attitude I got. I placed a order something simple like rice beans and chicken. The dude told me 20 mins I come back 25 mins later. I sit down no one don't even acknowledge me. Until I asked if my food is ready. The girl tells me it's 14 orders in front of mine. Then told me well you should of ordered earlier. I love the food but the service was basura. read more

I was recently visiting my boyfriend in Paterson and I woke up early on Sunday craving a Puerto Rican meal. If you're Puerto Rican you know what it's like to wake up wanting rice and beans and meat. The only problem was that most of my people in the area close on Sundays unlike the Colombians (but I didn't want that). So I found this place on Yelp and we took the 20 minute ride. I have to say that the food was definitely good and hit the spot, but I wasn't blown away. What made me write this review was the service. The girl that took care of us was so delightful and happy to meet us. She made the experience really enjoyable. The place was really clean. My bf and I were able to enjoy the delicious food while conversing. It was a great way to start the day. You won't regret having a meal here! read more

Really good authentic boriqua food and have that home feeling to it, this is the place to go 5 stars for me

I asked the young lady if the food was good. She said yes. She lied. The food is incredible. The chicken, the pork, the rice and the empanadas didn't just have those surface spices I come to expect. The flavors were cooked all the way through and perfectly. The restaurant is just a tiny little place but cleanliness is obviously a priority. Also a priority is how they treat their customers. I'm just a Gringo but I felt right at home surrounded by the wonderful Tainos. I can't wait to go back!!! read more

This restaurant is phenomenal! The food is freshly made and fulfilling. The staff, super cool! I had the white rice with beans, and sweet plantains. My husband had the white rice with carne gisa, salad and mofongo. All delicious read more

Placed an order online (via restaurant not yelp) for pick up and called to confirm the order and welll ..... it went down hill from there. Regrettably, I ended up paying for that order twice and then the order was incomplete!!! Perhaps it was just a bad night, but when I explained the situation (more than once), and even showed my order online, the discussion went nowhere. The staff/owner said I should get my money from the online service (the web developers) that they contracted with. I understand the credit will occur but why make me pay for the challenge that was clearly an online issue with a business they contracted out with. To top it off, my order was incomplete and did not realize till I got home. Yes, they provided the rice without the beans. Needless to say, I am upset because l will not be going back to one of the few good Puerto Rican restaurants in Newark. You may have the good food, but the service is terrible. Can't go back. :( read more

Unfortunately they only get 1 star from me. I'll start with the worst first which is the teen staff boy/girl, they have no courtesy or professionalism whatsoever & not so attentive cause they only seem to worry about their friends hanging out in the restaurant, THEY MOVE LIKE TURTLES & take forever to bring you things you ask for. I had to ask for my drinks, napkins, utensils etc 2-3 times. Some of the food is ok, I prefer the pernil with rice n beans over their dry n salty chicken or pork chops but I'll say it again if you do visit this place do go with patience cause THEY MOVE LIKE TURTLES. The place is a whole in the wall with limited seating & parking in that area is the worst. Last but not least how can you be a PR restaurant and hardly have any PR desserts. I def Will not be going back. read more

Bad service, shouldn't mix family with business. Waitress not having a inviting attitude and the rice definitely from previous day.

What can I say about this restaurant other then pure perfection! I cannot say enough about how delicious every single thing we ordered was! As a Puerto Rican myself I find it difficult to be pleased with Puerto Rican food that isn't cooked in my own kitchen or that of my mothers but today El Taino Restaurant managed to take me home! The rice was cooked to perfection and the tasty beans were served in a wooden bowl that added to the authenticity. The bistec was SENSATIONAL and I can't wait to come back again! Leave room for dessert because it's just the icing on the cake! The staff was so welcoming and made the experience even better! You will not be disappointed! read more

Every single thing we had here was amazing !! Didn't try any dessert but the sancocho was great and the bistec was perfect !!!! Definitely recommend. read more

Taino's Kitchen - Interior wall - Puerto Rican Near Me - Newark, New Jersey

Horrible service. Made us wait 20 min for non alcoholic drinks and we never received our appetizer in the 25 min we were there"which was 3 empanadas" lol , but a Puerto Rican family walked in after and received service before us. Not to mention I am Puerto Rican as well. I really felt discriminated because I am a lesbian woman and I was there with my girlfriend. It's fine if you don't want to service gay people just let it be known! Sorry you loss a good customer that would of tipped great just because we come from the same nationality! You guys need to Do better. read more

The service here sucked. I went in for something simple. Meanwhile other patrons ordered got their food and I was still waiting. Ended up asking for my money back. I'd never go back rather give my money to a wet back restaurant then Here. read more

I went to Taino's today after searching up Puerto Rican restaurants in the city. Reviews were good so I definitely wanted to try. I ordered Chicharrón, BBQ Chicken and Rotisserie chicken to go. What I got was a chopped up bone in chicken breast passed off as Chicharrón, a 1/2 burnt 1/2 pale piece of chicken passed off as rotisserie and then the same horrible chicken with watery BBQ sauce poured on top. To say that I am HIGHLY disappointed is an understatement. I definitely should have looked at my order before I paid. My family and I had to throw the order out it was so bad. NEVER again. It's sad too as I see that there was outdoor seating available. With all of the competition in Newark a good experience on my end would have definitely put them in rotation for large sit down parties as I'm a member of a supper club and meeting up, supporting and recommending restaurants is what we do. Their loss. I'm 1000% sure they knew full well that they were selling me trash. Perhaps they figured I didn't really know exactly what I should be getting. WRONG read more

First of all, I am so sad that I could not enjoy this place, a local fellow Puerto Rican business right in the neighborhood. DISAPPOINTED. Unfortunately service was just as terrible as the food. I went twice, both times I was stared down as if I was bothering somehow. The first time I went I gracefully approached the counter/"bar seating", the man who appeared to be the owner stared at me from all the way on the other side as if to say "come over here". Now I'm no expert in body language have been in the restaurant business for over 10 years, and have picked up a thing or two in studying different body languages. This was either laziness or arrogance. He never came to me, I practically begged for a menu and I had to make my way to where the register was, once I figured out that he was not attending me unless I came to him. I tried to make small talk about a menu item and was ignored. Now on to the food. For the quality of your subpar food, you should not be so arrogant. I am a Puerto Rican Chef who lives between the US and PR, I know quality food when I taste it. Your food was what we in Puerto Rico consider party food, (inexpensive, low maintenance, low quality, the kind of food we make when we have to feed 200 relatives at a family function) The rice was tasteless and dry, the gandules resembled the dry gandules I pick from my yard back home after I forget them on the plant for a month. It was clearly made the day before or super early, I've eaten "pegao(burnt rice from bottom of pan) " with more flavor than your rice. The chicken was bland and dry. Would I try it again? Maybe a la carte menu items just to make sure I'm not just a victim of a "bad day" and pre made food experience. But I will more than likely do take-out to avoid the epic stare downs. Had the service been at least nice, I would not of even rated the crappy food. read more

Came and ordered rice and cerdo asado and waited about 10mins thinking I was getting a well prepared meal. Got to work starving and when I open my tray there was only rice and pork . Mind you the pork was ALL FAT. Lacked flavor. I've been here before and have ordered the same thing and have gotten maduros and repollo. Where was it this time? What took so long to throw rice and pork in a tray? And when I called the girl on the phone said "if it's to go then it's just rice and the meat" WHAT?! Then why am I paying the same price? HORRIBLE. will not be returning. read more
