Bone found in shawarma pita
Andrew E.

Dang what a bummer. I haven't been to taim since going to the Waverly location more than a decade ago but it still ranks as one of my favorite meals in NYC, so when we moved to Brooklyn I was excited to there was a location near me in Park Slope. Sadly it's a pale imitation of what it was. The falafels aren't freshly fried and now taste nearly indistinguishable from each other. The once spicy, herbaceous s'rug lacks its previous spark. It's not terrible, it's just fine--another bland Mediterranean fast food place. I'd probably give it 3 stars if I hadn't almost choked on a very sharp bone in my shawarma pita, but even if I hadn't injured myself eating here, there's simply no reason to go back, given the other options in the area.

Been coming here every few months for a few years, sometimes more, but everytime it's different. When good the food can be great but after the relaunch it's a bit of roulette. For example today my "plate" was very light on greens and way to heavy on sauce but most disappointingly was served in the dreaded black plastic of low end nyc takeout. I didn't think I'd care much but really put a damper on trying to eat a healthy meal out of hot black plastic instead of the usual pressed paper plates. Not even sure how that happened, is it just this one Brooklyn spot that freelanced and bought random containers? Or is the whole chain changing to more plastic, either way it's the wrong direction. I will say the staff is always great and working hard and I always tip. It's hard work, just tough looking forward to a meal and never quite knowing if it's gonna be good or disappointing.

This is a mini review for the take out. Was passing by and ordered a chicken shawarma platter. Good flavor and a nice size portion. They do have seats inside and outside.

So I went to taim for the first time today. (Full Disclosure: It is one of Delta's Skymiles Dining partners and I went solely for the miles.) I was going to the Savage! Comedy show at Logan's Run and was presented with this as a good pre show spot. You can find it on Park Slope's busy 5th Ave corridor where everything has outdoor seating, even the post office - ya know? The place was busy with delivery people and a handful of customers waiting for orders. Touchscreens are available at the counter for guests which is super convenient for everyone because - customization. The space is cozy with bench seating opposite the order counter, cookout-style tables in the middle and high chair seating against the window and wall. Cafe-style seating is also available outdoors. I waited 20 minutes for a green-harissa falafel bowl with a base of couscous and super greens, crunchy shallots, and other additions. What I got was the falafel, other additions, and WHITE RICE. No couscous, super greens or shallots. I'm not bothered at all by the wait. I literally went at clang-clang dinner time in a busy area. But it was like - ugh!!! - ya know? I told them right away and also told them I was going to go ahead and continue eating cuz I was running late but just in case someone else got MY order. While waiting, I sipped on a free Ginger-Mint Lemonade, courtesy of my Yelp Check-in. Any Yelp user can do this BTW. You don't have to be an Elite. Back to my bowl, it was delicious! The falafels were tasty - more herbal than spicy; slightly larger than pinballs, not too dense, and had a good KA-runch! The hummus was smooth and creamy and the flavor was well-balanced. I also added spicy chickpeas, red pepper baba ganoush, cucumber, and harissa sauce. All the vegetables were crisp and fresh. The lemonade wasn't too sweet. It actually wasn't much of anything. I could barely taste any mint and if it weren't for ginger in the name I wouldn't have known it was there. This appears to be a local favorite, so maybe they were having an off night? They did appear to be overwhelmed. Taking points off because of the missing ingredients and the bland lemonade. I'm not entirely turned off, but it'll be a while before I consider this place again.

Chicken Shawarma bowl. So good!

Im gonna be honest, you put a bunch of stuff in a bowl and im down! Poke Bowls are life. So I see the bowls that Taim makes on Yelp and Im like I gotta get me mitts on one of those bad boys! And so on a bright, brisk autumn day in NY I did just that. Ordered the Chicken Shawarma bowl and I was blown away! So good. I had it with the aforementioned Chicken, rice,Hummus, olives,Harissa, slivered almonds,I dont know there was other stuff in it too but I was shoveling it in so fast I lost track! Loved the contrazst of hot and cold foods, spicy and salty. Just a beautiful mix of tastes and textures. I am going to be ordering again soon especially since I forgfot to order a piece of Baklava for dessert.

I was craving chicken shawarma. I've been craving it since I quit managing this shawarma place, that in my opinion had some delicious shawarma. First time I had them for delivery. But once I learned delivery is like $10 dollar more than pick up. I stop being lazy. It's a small place on 7th ave. If you're not paying attention you'll miss it. They have a few seats for dine in. But it's more of a take out feel. The customer service is excellent. I'm always greeted as soon as I walk in. You place your own order through the kiosk at the counter. They are pretty quick about getting your food out. The food is delicious. I always get the bowl, half hummus, half romaine, chicken, cucumbers, tomatoes, pickled onions, tahini, whipped garlic sauce and harissa. It comes with a pita. They give a ton of free toppings and premium ones for an additional fee. Great place for vegan/vegetarian. As they have falafel, eggplant, Brussels sprout shawarma and impossible kebab as main proteins. They even have a harissa falafel which my boyfriend loves. I have a few gripes. First one is the chicken isn't cooked on a spit like traditional shawarma. It's missing those crispy bits and added layer of flavor you get from cooking on a spit. Second the harissa isn't hot enough. The falafel are smaller than I'm used to. The whipped garlic sauce isn't garlicky enough. The tomatoes are too big. The cut cherry tomatoes in half. They would benefit better from dicing a tomato they way they do the cucumber. They don't properly drain the liquid that accumulates from the cucumber and tomato. Occasionally I'm left with a mini pool at the bottom. Also they don't give enough romaine. All in all it's a solid spot. That's consistent and they offer rewards through their app. So far I've had an entree for $50% off and buy one get one free entree and I've only had the app for about 2 weeks.

I'm in corner feeling very satisfied about my meal.

I'm here right now. My falafel, fries and ginger lemonade was absolutely DELICIOUS. Angel could not of been NICER .. This place is awesome!! Love casual little eateries w delicious food.

Essentially empty. Mixed it hoping to find chicken, to no avail.

Constantly a problem. Bad service. Worse food. I don't know how this place is still open.

Taim is a great and welcome addition to the Park Slope area. I had been anxiously awaiting its opening, and have definitely worked it into my regular routine--if I go more than a few weeks without, I'll definitely crave it. I love the customizability of the sandwiches or bowls--my go-tos are either the falafel or Cauliflower shawarma bowls. The mix of green and harissa falafel is perfect for me--.just the right amount of heat without being overwhelming (as I've experienced with all harissa falafel at other locations). What really makes the bowls work so well for me is the inspired topping selection--bowl base of creamy hummus, turmeric pearl couscous, toasted cumin rice or romaine lettuce. Addition topping options include Pickles, olives, zaatar croutons, seasoned chickpeas, toasted almonds...it provides for a tart, spicy, complex and filling meal--it's a good-sized bowl, often good for more than one meal, depending upon how hungry I am... and how many of their quality sides I wind up buying. Speaking of.... Despite the praise I had heard, I was skeptical of their fries, but they are surprisingly good as well, with either saffron aioli or harissa ketchup.  The labne was a tasty side as well. About my only disappointment here was the lentil harissa soup, kind of small and also surprisingly bland. But there are plenty of excellent options. Can get crowded, but service is fast as possible, friendly and efficient--great value for a to-go Slope meal!

I was there a few weeks ago, and I'm just now getting to review it, but I feel like I should have done this earlier! I had been coming back from the Brooklyn Museum, and it was raining very badly. I was hungry, and I wanted somewhere to go just so I would not be in the rain. I was with one of my friends who was also hungry and just wanted to get out of the rain. We found this place, and we both loved it very much. The food was served fairly fast despite there being quite a few people there, the servers were funny, the presentation was STUNNING, and the chicken was perfectly cooked. They also warmed our pastries up, which is SUCH a big thing for both of us. We love that it was offered upon just ordering our pastries. Also, the decor in there was beautiful. It was warm, it smelled so good, and I was sitting at the window, so I got a view of the street! The people working there were kind, the people ORDERING were kind, and honestly, I can not say anything bad about how the place looked. Cozy alone does not do this place justice. The prices were fair. They were not exactly cheap, but it was so worth it. Another thing I'm big on is that I'm quite picky. I don't eat much at restaurants because I nearly always find something I don't like or someone forgets to leave something out of my order. They didn't. I have no complaints. Only praise, this place was great, and I am planning on coming back with my friend!!

On this first visit I just ordered a coffee and a Russian sandwich (bagel, chive cream cheese, smoked salmon, tomato, capers, olive oil and herb drizzle) and it was fantastic. Each element was great on its own. I sat down to eat for about 30 minutes and it was calm and quiet. The gentleman running the kitchen welcomed me and I asked what his favorite sandwich was and ordered that. He had good rapport with the regulars who stopped in. Penny House feels like a place that's part of the community fabric. Would definitely go here again and try more sandwiches :)

Even though there is a line, you do not feel rushed or pressured to order quickly. On this visit we ordered plain croissant, chocolate croissant-fresh out of the oven, rhubarb croissant, black forest pastry and brown butter corn cake. The chocolate croissant was amazing. It is triple chocolate and cocoa powder is in the dough. It is filled with milk and dark chocolate, so creamy. The plain croissant was flaky and light. The brown butter corn cake was crispy and caramelized on the outside and soft and moist. The Black Forest croissant is a seasonal offering. It is made with their Triple Chocolate Croissant filled with chocolate cake and sour cherries and topped with mascarpone cream , Rhubarb & Custard Croissant . It is tart and sweet. The rhubarb is roasted and complimented with sweet vanilla custard. They all were excellent. Each were about $8. Highly recommend and don't let the line deter you .
