It was very busy. We played Bingo on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The initial service was very slow but he was super friendly and checked on us often. It was dark, loud, and cold since we had to sit outside due to no indoor seating but that was not their fault. Our drinks were good but had minimal alcohol. I would go here again. read more

The onion rings were great but the Philly Cheese Steak was actually Steak Bites and more than half of the Steak Bites in my sandwich was mostly grissle, very chewy and I had to spit it out. First of all, they were open on Sunday afternoon, which unfortunately is rare in Aiken. At first I tried to go get a slice and a beer at Pizza Joint, you know, that place whose business model used to be a slice of any pizza and a beer or two? I understand you can't get just a slice anymore, and that's too bad. Of course, if the door is locked you can't get anything. Tailgate Tavern currently has the best onion rings in Aiken and it's not even close. I am told there is some trouble getting real hand cut onion rings at the moment. These are hand cut and very good quality. The All American Burger is excellent, especially on a Sunday afternoon. Fresh and cooked to order and just really good. There are multiple TVs broadcasting various sporting events. Friendly bartenders. Good beverages. Good food...way above typical "bar food." The Dill Shrimp Salad is the best salad in town. It's true, and like the burgers in this town, I've had them all. This is the best. Ok so it's our bad that we got multiple vegetables (black eyed peas, mashed potatoes, spinach, broccoli) at a sports bar but either way doesn't excuse them for over salting all of it. The chicken and dumplings soup was even too salty. Yuck. We came last Saturday and sat inside after being at the bar and there was a complete lack of service by the woman waitress. She literally went to the table next to us to ask them if they needed anything and then promptly ran away without giving us a chance to get her. We never got our waters refilled and my husband had to get up to go get the check. We visited Tailgate Tavern today as part of an amazing walking food tour. We had a tasting menu that included "Firecracker Shrimp" and "Chicken and Dumpling" soup. The shrimp were large, lightly breaded and sauced just right. A crowd favorite, these quickly disappeared. The soup broth was tasty and the dumplings were tender, but not quite like Meemaw's. Tailgate Tavern has tons of televisions and looks like a good place for game night, or to hang out and enjoy time with friends. There is an outdoor bar area (not open during our visit) to dine and drink when the weather is nice. Our stop didn't include live music, but that seems like a good reason to visit in the future. read more

Came by Tailgate Tavern for dinner with the hubby to try a different Chef's Special. We started with the Firecracker Shrimp. Delicious! So, I tried the fried pork chop with lima beans and broccoli. Let me say the veggies were once again perfectly cooked and seasoned. The pork chop was huge. It was also very tender and tasty. It was slightly too salty for me. But I am not a big salt user. My husband had the fried pork chop with yams and black eyed peas and said it was all delicious. We had Berri Peach Cooler, Strawberry Coconut Margarita, and Midori Sour for our drinks. They were all really good. If you are not a fried pork chop fan, try the seared pork chop with apple demi glaze. That will be my next try and I bet it's good. read more

Service was great, food was great. We happened to stumble across this place while walking in downtown Aiken. I think I counted 24 TVs between the outside bar, inside bar, and dining areas. Every game was on! About a dozen different beers on draft with several good craft options in the selection. The portions on the entrees were huge, glad we didn't order appetizers. They were flexible on side pairings which was a win for my keto diet, and my daughter had her gravy for the shrimp and grits on the side. New to the area. We went to check out the tavern. It is located on a strip called, "Whiskey Ally." From the outside, it looks like a hole in the wall; but, I was game. Walked right in, sat down and service was prompt. Indulged in some cider and had the "All American Burger" and an order of onion rings. The burger, didn't look like much; but, it was surprisingly delicious. The onion rings were also good. A bit salty. The atmosphere was comfortable. I always get a burger in a new restaurant, because I love burgers & I always feel, if the burger is good, the rest will follow suit. The burger was so disgustingly greasy, it had a hard time staying on the bun. Waiter was ok, but other employees were very unfriendly. We will never be back. We had walked by this place several times and decided to stop in this time. SOOO glad we did. I have been looking for a good Shrimp Po Boy that is up to par ever since The Big Easy Cafe left Aiken years ago. This one was most excellent and I finally have my place for Po Boys. The onion rings were an excellent pairing. My wife had the French Dip and loved it as well. She is always a sucker for anything "Mac n Cheese"-related, so we had the Smoked Gouda Mac n Cheese bites and they did not disappoint either. Not impressed. Can't Aiken open a good food, family owned restaurant? Over priced nachos, cheese so thick you had to cut with a knife. Beans under the tortilla chips! Really? Guacamole was under seasoned. This was just the appetizer! Rest of meal, a hamburger and a gyro, we're lack luster. The gyro had so much feta cheese on it that it overtook all the other flavors. Not that they were that good to begin with. Side of onion rings were very greasy. Only fairly good item was the French fries. 1 star is pretty harsh. It's not a fine dining establishment. It's just the new Playoffs. They have more televisions and a better selection of beers than before.
