The Iron Horse Grill (now called Beech and Barrel) is a wonderful local restaurant. This place has been on our list for a long time and we finally got to try it. We will be back for sure! We enjoyed the mimosa special while waiting on our order. The staff were so welcoming and a joy. We ordered country fried steak, chicken and waffles, and French toast. All the dishes were so flavorful and cooked just right. I was able to sample some local South Carolina whiskey. The prices are really good and the facility is nice and well put together. This will be a regular spot for sure. read more

We ordered a bourbon on the rocks and it was well made. We tried the chips and salsa. The chips were really good but the salsa tasted like it was poured out of a jar. We also tried the burger and beef patties with brown gravy, fried okra, and onion rings. The burger was pretty bad - not cooked well and not very tasty. The beef patties with gravy were just passible. The okra was excellent and the onion rings were good. The place is very very loud and the exhaust does not work very well so the place is filled with cooking fumes. The service was good. read more

If you go there to drink, then you may have an ok experience. If you go there to eat you're gonna have a problem! Took us 20 minutes to get drinks - water and tea. Over 40 minutes for food and then they brought NO condiments for the shrimp! Who plates a shrimp basket with NO cocktail or tartar sauce. Told the waitress and I kid you not she brought us marinara sauce. Had to wait another 10 minutes to get cocktail sauce for a now cold shrimp basket. Two waitresses for a Sat. Afternoon. We were there before the dinner rush. Around 5pm. This is the third time we have tried this place since the New ownership. We keep trying to give them a chance but we keep being disappointed. It's a shame because it's a nice updated place. Some vast improvements need to be made with staff and service and food. Mediocre at best! read more

This was a great place to have friends meet. We had a party of 8 and didn't have a wait. The indoor dining is spread out with a comfortable atmosphere. The server kept our water glasses full from the time we sat down until we left. Someone in the party needs to be members of the establishment. They say it is not expensive. You get a lot of food for the price. This was an excellent date night. The salmon on the salad was the best I have had in the CSRA. The salad had a whole avocado and a whole hard boiled egg sliced on it. The crispy bacon put it over the top. We will be at the next group gather here. read more

Huh...back for first time after close and new owners took on the Iron Horse! Congrats on successful opening. It's a Saturday night and place is hopping. Live music and everything!! Menu is new...very meat forward and very limited (one page). With a limited menu the kitchen should be able to push out amazing food. Not quite... See into the kitchen, burgers are frozen and only served "fully cooked." Disappointing for a grill establishment. We had Yukon Chips...like warm with unmelted cheese (disappointing). We had the ahi tuna appetizer...tasted like it had been previously frozen. We had black bean burger....not bad, but lacked a sear and was ultimately mushy. Fries were fantastic...sell those more. A good poutine would sell amazing!! Staff are young, very nice. Live music was nice. Fresh coat of paint & interior "facelift" much needed & we'll done. Kitchen buildout looks 1000% better. Wow. We came Friday for Catfish. Wowweeee. We moved from Memphis and Iron Horse has the best fried Catfish. It is plump, fresh, great flavor. No corn meal coating so I feel like it's a little healthier! Lol. It is the best I've had. Great Yukon Chips. Service was amazing. Thank you Ashley. Every time we go we're greeted with smiling faces, Great food and a really great atmosphere.

Sadly this is not at all a comfortable or reasonable place to have a family experience. I went here last Saturday and had a very difficult time with the manager after explaining that my order was billed incorrectly for items I didn't receive after ordering. I don't mind paying for the things I was given, but there was no reason to bill me for things I didn't even have. Or make a scene loudly in front of other people trying to enjoy their meal. I originally appreciated this place for their good food and kind waiters, but I won't be coming back, and I don't recommend anyone take this kind of risk - not to mention long waits even with reservations. It's also sad to see how management treats their employees. Simple fixes shouldn't be so unprofessional or embarrassing. read more

This restaurant requires a membership or for you to be a guest of a member. That being said, it's far less cost than any other restaurant membership I've ever purchased; only $20 a year or $30 for a couple. I joined in November 2020. It's worth it. The food has been pretty good. But two characteristics of it really stands out: 1 - They make it when you order it. Even the homemade potato chips! So everything comes out piping hot. 2 - The staff is very pleasant and attentive. They clearly enjoy their job and are here to serve you. It's not just another job for them. I've seen many good comments in the wait staff here, and now I know why. read more

Iron Horse Grill refused me service tonight because they will not allow parties over 6 people. I was told this when I called 2 hours in advance, as they have asked us to do before (which is understandable with any large group). This is offensive to me because not only am I in a FAMILY of 7, but for many months in the past year we have been very loyal and WEEKLY customers (we know many of them by name and they knew us)!!!! We have NEVER complained about the EXCEPTIONALLY slow service or any issues with our previous orders. We ALWAYS tip VERY well and don't cause any trouble. This is THE worst customer service I have ever experienced!!! Other staff has treated us rudely before there and I haven't complained, but this takes the icing off the cake. Mike is the only one that still works there that has ALWAYS treated us kindly and welcomed us. He is a true asset to the company. I get not wanting a big crowd to show up at the last minute, but even with calling (and asking if we can just take up two tables) I was told we could not eat there. That is a load of junk. We will NOT be spending any more money at Iron Horse. It's truly sad because they could have a wonderful business, but why treat your customers (especially regulars/loyal customers) like they are not welcome??!! read more

We stopped in after reading the glowing reviews. It was 2/3 empty. It took 15 minutes for an employee to even acknowledge our existence. She went into a tirade about how it was a private club. If we wanted to eat, we had to join. I have not seen anything that said it was a private club online. She threw a paper at us and was just incredibly rude. We recently relocated from a place where private clubs were common. We've never been treated that way. I don't care how good their food might be. You don't treat customers that way. read more

This is such a cool and funky place, I really do adore it. We have been here twice and just talked about hitting it up today for brunch. As others have stated, the portions are hefty and decorations are awesome. But, since I choose not to eat decorations, (but trust me they are super cool), I'll concentrate on their amazing food... Two things to know are is they have a super cheap membership fee and they have fairly limited hours meaning they are only open for dinner, brunch on Sundays and are closed early in the week. Still, find time to make it to this place. Huge menu! So many choices but here are our favorites: Tuna Steak with sesame seeds, either of the bunless burgers, any fried seafood especially the oysters, risotto with salmon. They have a salad bar! Love it, reminds me of the 1980's. Trust me, this is a quirky little place that consistently puts out great food for a great price. My neighbor told me she heard it is up for sale. I don't like to ding a restaurant for bad service -- every business can have a bad night. But our dining fiasco was really special. We ordered and never got our food -- even after 2.5 hours. Let me explain what I think happened -- so maybe you dear reader won't have this happen to you. When we pulled up, my friends said -- uh oh, because there were a ton of cars in the parking lot. I was surprised -- that's usually a good sign. But, no, they said. They had great food, and the service is really great, but they had never seen them deal with a crowd. They didn't deal with it. Service was harried. Maybe there was one cook at the grill. And there were a couple parties of 20 or more. We came for the crab legs special. They ran out (they told us this after the first hour of waiting). It was another 15-20 minutes or so before the revised orders were taken. I had to march up to the bar to get refills on water and unsweetened tea. In the meantime, we get a series of stories on the status of our orders. It's coming up soon, we just put in front of the cook, etc, etc. One of our party gets sleepy, decides to leave after a couple of hours. Fortunately, they were able to get their food. A couple of salads appear for us -- without dressing, but an alarming description of the avocado dressing that had gone bad, so they threw it out. My wife says, ok, we didn't order that dressing. Waitress admits, oh, ok, I thought so but your first waitress hadn't written it down. More time passes, a promise or two about the imminence of our orders hold us in our seats. But eventually, we give up. We see if these guys can give us these orders to go. "Oh no, we haven't started those yet!" On that note, we left. They did comp us the meal, and recognized that this was a first class dining disaster. Hopefully, they will learn to handle crowds. However, after running a restaurant for 11 years, you would hoped this management would have learned those lessons. I may come back someday, but only when the parking lot is pretty empty read more

This place is phenomenal! I can't say enough about the food! The best we have had here in the South. We moved here two years ago and finding this spot on Fathers Day was such a find! Was a little surprised about the $20 membership, but my daughter paid for it for my husband for Fathers Day along with a tee shirt! Incredible food - had a salad with shrimp and lobster! Recently had a very poor experience when dining in. I was part of a group of 7 that had called in reservations for the evening of Friday the 29th of June. 2 of our party didn't order meals, just drinks and a slice of pie. From the time between sitting at our table and finally getting some of our main meals, over two hours had passed. It was not even that busy that night. We are used to waiting awhile for food while eating here and we've come to expect it, but this was the worst we've ever seen. I had my drink refilled once towards the end of our visit. It sat empty for most of the dinner. Our waitress was only around once every 45 minutes or so, forcing us to go up and get what we needed. When we brought up that we were upset with the slow service, she became immediately defensive and claimed she couldn't control the speed of the kitchen. I doubt the kitchen controls the drinks or the slice of pie it took over an hour to receive. My entire group will most likely not be eating there again. read more

The only reason I didn't give five stars is because it was a little noisy. Probably not too noisy for most folks, I just can't hear well over background noise. This will be a regular stopping place whenever we pass through here. The staff were super friendly. The Bloody Mary was outstanding. The beer was cold. The food was very good for a beanery/bar. We did not realize it was a private club but when we went in the bartender said "Y'all c'mon in. Your my guest." I think it is not a problem if you're not a member but, if it is, you can buy a months membership for $10 and it's worth that just for the great staff. Try it, you'll like it. I wish I could give 4 3/4 stars. Oh, there is enough parking if you are pulling a camper. And oh, there was a nice guy at the bar who had had a few beers and after he saved me from walking into the ladies room by mistake asked me if I was related to Jesus. This is a "Private" club/bar-restaurant. Single membership is $15 & $20 for a couple (Includes a free app voucher). The food is fresh and is delicious. I had the prime-rib sub (~$10) and the fried shrimp nachos (~$7) as an app. It took some time to get the food but I was part of a larger party so with that in mind, and the food being fresh it didn't affect my review. They have a large menu and a full service bar that offers anything from bottle to draught beer (3 on tap at a time) to cosmos & other liqueurs. We had the on tap beer at $3.00 each which was wallet friendly. They also offer several cuts of steak and seafood (crab legs etc.). The nicer cuts meat run ~$21. Burgers ~$7-10 depending on what you want. They offer several varieties. There is karaoke on Fri & Sat night. Food specials are offered throughout the week as well. Highly recommend this place. what a GEM!!!... We moved to the aiken area a little over a year ago. We have been disappointed in restaurants over and over as we tried to find a "favorite niche";. We have found it now. A private club, pfft... not to worry, pay the 15 bucks and be happy about that choice!!.. We have tried their steaks , prime rib, burgers and not once have we left with anything but happy faces. accommodating staff, great bartenders. Casual and comfy not pretentious . We have gone on Friday , saturday nights, and usually stop by after a round of golf on Sunday for a burger and not once have we been disappointed. We have now found "OUR" perfect place! read more
