After reading some of the posts. I was like duh, really what is YOUR definition of a dive bar. The beers are cold the local barflies will keep you amused and the live music available you cannot beat. This is my 2nd time coming and it is chill. The first time one of the bartenders introduced me to a new beer and a shot which suprised me for a minute but he was cool. Dropped by tonight just to get the vibe and Tokoyo Roshenthal is playing tonight. Dude can play the guitar and has a cool a** hat. Would post more pics but you need to live more in the moment and take all that Joe's Underground have to offer. Look hard though because if you blink you might miss it.

--sneak peak of a good time .

Smelled like wet dog, no available food, besides a vendor that sets up. Really just a little underground bar. Staff was friendly.

Honestly, this place is a gem. Cheap drink, complete random venue, discrete location- probably just my kind of place.

It's on Broad Street! And it's near Stillwater Taproom, Nacho Mama's, and now The Book Tavern. Was it the appearance from the outside? Of course not. It looks so cool in the front windows and I knew there was a billiards table in the back. I also knew the history of (circa 1995), but somehow my feet and love for all things bourbon and rye did not draw me across the threshold. Until that fateful afternoon. Thankfully I have a mentor who spoke of its greatness (and his nostalgic connection from years gone by) and knew he must right the wrong that was my lack of patronage. We met up during Happy Hour and within moments I had entered a new world. Movie posters (authentic, not cheap replicas) everywhere. Art from front to back. The bar was lit up and one of the televisions had Mortal Kombat (the game) setup. We walked the length of the place, which will surprise you the first time you venture inside), and I learned more in depth the history of this bar. As if the assorted seating, plethora of drink choices, and the presence of an actual dance floor wasn't enough we went out the back door. There I learned about the "smoking section" that holds about 30 folks. Tables, umbrellas, and benches all await. But honestly it looks like the cool kids table I remember from school. I'm told the place can get packed when a DJ is onsite or a popular band. After a couple of drinks and good conversation, he asked me what my thoughts were on the place. I explained it like this; this is the kind of bar you go to regularly or not at all. Like, I don't see a bunch of new people wandering in every night. Just the usual crowd. And downtowns need more bars like that. Just as a coffee shop has a unique vibe from the others, so do bars. And all reach a certain demographic. So the more we have, the more people come which is just plain out good for the local economy. I'll also add that the bartender seemed to be having fun. I only mention it because some bartenders are never having a good day. Just saying.

For a divey time portal, everyone can get a taste of everything quirky, funky, and fresh. Takes me back to New York City and I enjoy the different programming and cocktail menu's. Alex their bartender is a freaking genius and has made me several custom cocktails! They take cash, card, and even apple pay! Cover isn't always and isn't expensive when it is. Bathrooms could use some love but other than that I really do enjoy coming here for happy hour or an evening.

They have their signature cocktails or you can ask them to make something. Nonetheless, prices were surprisingly good compared to what I had expected. I ordered 3 drinks and spent $31 without tip. The inside is very cabin-y and cozy. They have an upstairs which is small, but the outside is cute for a group hangout. I will say though be aware of parking. It gets full fast! Their lot gets filled up quick, the side parking lot by the florist also fills up, and also the place across the street fills up too. It may be smarter to uber for the sake of parking. Overall, definitely would come back here for the drinks and the attentive service I got here!

The bartenders and bar back are some of the better ones that I've met in the industry. You can tell them an idea if the type of drink you would like and they'll make you one of the best cocktails you've had. They have a valet system, so no worries about parking. Staff have been very professional and friendly, so 5/5 stars for that. I ordered the 8oz filet mignon, medium rare. Steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly! It came with asparagus and mashed potatoes covered in a crispy layer of batter, which all complimented the steak well. I tried their tuna tartare, which had an interesting take on what the tuna was served on. I've always been used to tuna tartare being accommodated with bread, but this was sushi rice compacted and covered in some light batter. Felt like I was eating tuna sushi. Apply some of the sauces it comes with and seriously was fantastic. I also got to try 4oz of their Japanese A5 Wagyu. Super expensive; $80 dollars for four ounces, but worth the experience. You cook the thin pieces over a hot stone and apply some of the seasonings like salt it comes with. I cooked each side for about 30 seconds, sprinkled some salt, and it melted in my mouth! I ended my meal with their carrot cake and it was moist, not overly sweet, and had a great savory taste. I really enjoyed my time here and certainly will be back again. There is a bar and at the back of the restaurant, you can see the baseball field. Restrooms were clean, but only one stall from what I've seen in the men's room. Overall 5/5 steak house experience.
