A classic dive bar with weekly karaoke night. Fun place for a weekend hangout with a drink selection that isn't especially large but has enough quality options to keep you happy for a while. It can be crowded depending on the time but not as bad as some places in the area and if what you're looking for is to mix with as many twenty somethings as possible this place will still suit your needs as well in its peak hours. Clientele and staff tend to be a bit more approachable than other places in the area and I had overall good experiences with both over the course of three years in town as a semi regular customer. read more

After reading some of the posts. I was like duh, really what is YOUR definition of a dive bar. The beers are cold the local barflies will keep you amused and the live music available you cannot beat. This is my 2nd time coming and it is chill. The first time one of the bartenders introduced me to a new beer and a shot which suprised me for a minute but he was cool. Dropped by tonight just to get the vibe and Tokoyo Roshenthal is playing tonight. Dude can play the guitar and has a cool a** hat. Would post more pics but you need to live more in the moment and take all that Joe's Underground have to offer. Look hard though because if you blink you might miss it. read more

Absolutely horrible service, we sat for 35mins before the bartender even offered us a menu. Then another 15 mins for her to return to take our order. Highly recommend you don't waste your time. Wish I could give 0 stars this place does not deserve the 1 star. read more

I don't know what I was expecting, but it sure wasn't this. First, let's talk about the whole cover charge fiasco. They could not figure out how to take a credit card for cover and could not put it on the tab and then tried to trick us into using an ATM which had overpriced fees. I ended up finding some cash. Now let's discuss drinks. They have a full bar is what they say. I had seen a drink menu from them before and ordered. The bartender says she can't make that. I suggest another more common drink, she asks what's in it and then says they don't have that. I then ask for a third super common drink, and she asks what's in it. Guess what? Can't make that. I gave up and had water. And this wasn't just me, my friend who was with me also had to teach the bartender how to make her drink (amaretto sour). So I finally give up and since we were here for their comedy show, I asked for their food menu since I really could not eat at Fuse which is where we went earlier. Everything I ordered they were out of. Finally I settled on basket of fries, and then asked if they were out of potatoes. Surprisingly they weren't! While waiting for my fries, I had to use the bathroom. The single occupancy men's room does not close so everyone gets to watch you use the toilet. The restroom had obviously not been cleaned in years. That is completely disgusting. So let's discuss this comedy show. It was supposed to start at 10 pm. By the time we got our fries (which were burnt) and paid, it was 10:30 and the show still had not started yet. So as my friend and I agreed, if the show had not started by the time we had our fries we were going to go. We all have other things to do, she is a medical student and she needs to study and I am a hypnotherapist who could be doing my own show. So we left and as we were leaving, several staff members acted surprised that we were leaving. One actually said "You're really leaving"? Then when I pointed out that their show was supposed to start over 30 min prior, he (a huge black guy) started making fun of my medicine satchel which includes my anti-seizure medications and sunglasses (a requirement for a photo-sensitive epileptic on Broad street at night. And then proceeded to shout and insult me down broad street. As a hypnotist, I should have made him cluck like a chicken. read more

Honestly, this place is a gem. Cheap drink, complete random venue, discrete location- probably just my kind of place.

I came in for happy hour with friends and they were almost empty! But as it got later more people began to file in. It's a dive bar with free wi-fi and good happy hour drink specials. They also have a bar menu with a jalapeno ranch dipping sauce that goes great with everything! There were a few setbacks: bartender needed help (In addition to tending the bar, he was the cook, waiter, and host), the stale smell of cigarettes from the smoking days was still in the air, and the women's bathroom looked like there was a camera hidden someplace. Despite the negatives, it seems like a great place to kick back and listen to some live music. I'll try them out again once it gets warmer. read more

Joe's Underground Cafe is doing a brunch every saturday till the end of march and I was thoroughly surprised. The food was very fresh and everything tasted homemade. There's a build your own bloody mary station and different live music every week. We were the only people in there today but with food this good I imagine that's going to change. read more

It's a dive bar with cheap drinks and a friendly staff. Very chill during the day, but I can't speak to what it's like at night. Only problem is they're closed most of the times I try to stop by there, early afternoon on a weekend or after work around 5. The interior is a dive. Filthy throughout, particularly the women's bathroom. Paint color and general decor is dark, dank, completely out of date. Menu selection is good, but noticeable when the money is short that week for groceries as portion sizes grow smaller from one visit to the next. Shitty attitude from the Head Chef when asked about the menu and availability of swapping items out. The building itself is a Downtown icon just to bad whoever owns it now (or manages it) doesn't have a clue. Hate to give this place even one star. AVOID!!!!! read more

--Very low key spot. Great for a relaxed but exciting adventure. They had live music; random bands. The staff was friendly and for a "first timer" I didn't feel out of place. The food took a little longer then I would have liked but it was still good. Nothing over the top but still good. Affordable. WALK AWAY!!! Better yet, RUN!!! We found out about this place searching the Internet while driving from North Carolina to Atlanta. The spots great!!! Paid $3ea at the door because theirs a live band up. The band was rockin the place. They were great! Could be the best dive bar ever! Should be. Dark space. Dive look. Sadly, dive service and that is being kind. Waited at the 1/4 filled bar. Took 10 minutes to get the kid behind the bar to stop taking shots and get our order. Ordered with him 3 times over the next 10 minutes before he finally took our entire order. 3 food items and 2 drinks. Might be his first day. If so, he needs a clue to figure out drinking behind the bar while trying to learn isn't a good idea. They have two menus that look the same but don't have the same items. A customer ordered a Bud Light bottle while I was standing there and they ran out of Bud Light. Seemed like a project to find more. Service was so bad I wouldn't recommend it. The patrons around us were saying the service here is the worst normally, but they get good bands. Anyhow, I'll pass if we ever come through Agusta again. I recommend the same for you. read more

When I first went to Joe's underground I wasn't expecting anything in particular. I was curious to see if it was really underground. Which it is down about 12 steps that were literally crumbling as you walk down them. It blows my mind that these steps could pass safety codes and regulations. So it was afternoon the first time I went there. There were two other people in the bar plus the bartender. To be expected seeing how it was the middle of the weekday in the afternoon. The bartender at that time was really friendly. His name was Bill I believe. My friend and I ordered food that was pleasantly surprisingly good. Bill was also the cook. Now mind you every thing they cook has to be cooked by oven, toaster, or microwave because their stove top/fryer was taken away by the Fire Department due to not being up to code and it being a fire hazard. I received this info from a patron that obviously was a regular there. Super nice guy. Wasn't bad mouthing the bar just explaining to me how the foods cooked. Well the second time I went to Joe's was a Friday night with some co-workers. It was pretty packed because it was around 9pm on a Friday night. Well, there were two bartenders behind the bar which I find out later the man behind the bar was also the manager. The other bartender was a young female looked to be in her early 20's. Which she spent most of the night going outside to smoke. The times she was behind the bar she was doing shots and talking to her friends. Not bartending. The manager was very unfriendly and never smiled, except when talking to the young bartender whose name was Katie now that I recall. Other than only smiling when talking to Katie he was very cold almost rude. Didn't say please or thank you to any of the customers. Very odd personality especially for being the manager and being the customer service to the customers. A couple hours later I use the bathroom. Which you could smell the sewage before you even entered the bathroom. I literally held my breath because I was gagging if I didn't. So as I'm exiting the ladies room I look next to me and walking out of the bathroom comes Katie the bartender and whom I assumed was her bf. I'm not accusing anyone of anything but in my past experience from bartending and waitressing is that people that come out of a single restroom in pairs or with multiple people are usually not going to the bathroom relieve themselves. My past experience is that something illegal is usually taking place. Well my tab was higher than it should have been but I wasn't about to argue with the manager who looked like the most bitter person in the world. And I definitely wasn't going to approach Katie because she probably drank 3 to every 1of my drinks. That's if she was inside. So we paid our tabs and left. With my experience at Joe's underground cafe is that my first experience was pleasant. Bill was friendly and good service and food was good. My second experience was awful. Definitely the worst experience I've ever had at a bar. From the steps to the sewage smelling bathroom to the mad non talking Manager/Bartending to the young bartender named Katie who was entertaining just to watch her go outside then come in and talk to her friends and do 2 or 3 shots herself to her and some guy exiting the men's bathroom together. It's an awesome low key chill spot. Bill during the daytime was awesome. The manager and Katie. Complete joke's. I fear for the Owner that the manager and Katie will one day run the place into the ground. I hope the Owner figures out everything going on at his establishment and I hope he finds a new night shift crew That's my opinion. read more

This bar used to be awesome when I was younger (2006-2010) and it was packed on weekends. I remember all the regulars and I was a semi regular. Edison project would play and the place was jumping. We would drink beer for cheap and have a blast. It used to be so smokey your eyes would burn the next day but it was worth it. It's still a cool dive bar but they don't pack house like they used to and the service has declined and overall it's dropped off. There used to be dart boards and a golf game back by the bathroom and now it's just clutter and garbage back there. Bathrooms are still nasty as ever. I hope there are future improvements. Open mic night on Tuesday night can be fun and entertaining and you get some real characters up there read more

So I go there most every Saturday and there Karaoke is great. But Now, They do an 80's Underground once a month and it is Awesome! I have not missed one yet. They play 80's music videos on the big screen and there Dj is cool and takes requests! The dance floor is lit and the bartenders are fantastic. Now they even got a bigger menu with really good food! I was there with some friends this past Friday night and the local band that was playing was awesome. They put in a good show and made people laugh in the process. I had never heard of this place or seen it because the sign is so small and low to the ground. Drinks were good, vibe was good and music was great. This place is the definition of a dive bar. Sticky tables, poor lighting, falling apart on the inside. But you don't come to Joe's for the scenery, you come for a beer, a sandwich, or maybe listen to some local live music. For a bar under a sidewalk it's not bad; its location alone made me want to visit. The sandwich I had was decent and I've been there a couple other times for a beer. They don't have the largest selection to choose from but I have always been able to find something I like. It's worth trying out anyway; there could be some great stuff on the menu I have yet to taste. read more

Went to this place yesterday for lunch. My co-worker and I ordered our grilled chicken sandwiches to go prior to getting there. The guy told us it would be ready in 14-18 min, it was 12 noon when we placed our order; at 12:26, we came in...he just started our orders as we walked in! The sandwiches were not appetizing to the eye and they were flavorless and messy, my fries were very undercooked. My co-worker's plate had so few chips on it, you would think they must have run out of chips she asked for more and when she did it was as if there was a problem. After eating my sandwich I immediately had stomach aches which led to an explosive trip to the bathroom. The look of the restaurant was basement-y, dingy and dirty. and it was very dark. The owner could spend a few bucks and upgrade the place, especially if the food is nasty. Thumbs down all the way! read more

This was by FAR the worst place I've eaten in a long time....I ordered a chicken salad sandwich today....i think it's on par with cat food...no lettuce/tomato/mayo/pickle. Just dry stale bread. I will NEVER go back there again! AND the front stairs are like a war zone...I can't imagine the building codes are met. Never again! read more

Went in there a few weeks with a Groupon. Won't go back. Poor, slow service, overly priced, and took forever to receive our cold food. Didn't have 3 things we asked for. Only 1 other couple in there for lunch. It's sad, because it could be a cool downtown spot... they just don't seem to care. read more
