Solid spot - good prices. Came for a lunch special and was pleasantly surprised when complimentary tea and soup arrived. The tea wasn't great but the soup was. The Mongolian beef was ok - lacked some flavor and spice compared to places in China-town. Biggest issue was the portion- there was not nearly enough Mongolian beef for the mountain of rice. This place is more expensive than the other Chinese restaurants in the area and I found a worm/bug in my orange chicken. I also ordered the beef chow fun and was surprised to see it had beans in it. I do not know if chow fun traditionally has beans in it but this was the first time I saw black beans in chow fun. I just ate around the beans but was too grossed out to finish my meal after finding the worms in the orange chicken. Go to Hunan Empire or the place on Jackson St. instead! read more

Just happened to be in the city last night to visit our friends and we all decided to get a Chinese takeout for dinner. We ordered a total of 6 items: 2 appetizers and 4 entrées. For the 2 appetizers, we got potstickers and vegetable egg rolls, which were both recommended by our friends. I really liked the potstickers which were super plump and stuffed with so much meat. The vegetable egg rolls were also nice, but I thought they were a little bit more on the saltier side, but they were not bad. And for the four entrées, we got: Twice cooked pork - this entrée was really good. The portion was pretty generous, and it came with loads and loads of veggies cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed the char (or the fire blisters) on the cabbage. And I thought the pork belly added a nice umami to the entire dish, even though the pork could've been more tender. And this dish had the right amount of spice in it and was not too spicy. So, I think everyone could enjoy this dish. Chicken with string beans - this dish was just OK to me, because I thought that the green beans could've been blistered or charred more to add more flavor depths. And I was expecting this dish to be a little bit more dry, but instead it was more saucy than I had expected, so that was a little unusual to me. But I thought the flavor was still nice, and I still really enjoyed it. Mongolian beef - The Mongolian beef was probably my least favorite dish from what we ordered. I thought the flavor was nice, but what really threw me off was the consistency of the beef. I thought the beef was too soft, borderline mushy. I'm really not sure what's going on with this dish but my guess would be they used too much meat tenderizer? Vegetable fried rice - OK, this vegetable fried rice really blew my mind. I was pleasantly surprised to find this vegetable fried rice to be extremely flavorful even though it had no meat whatsoever (although it did use eggs, just FYI). But the umami flavor that I got gave me a real serous "meat" vibe though - maybe they used any non-vegetable stock (such as chicken or beef bullion perhaps)? ....which I wouldn't care about either way anyway, but I am curious. But I thought this fried rice was absolutely delicious. Overall, I would give this restaurant a general "like", except for their mushy Mongolian beef. The price was more expensive than I was expecting from standard Chinese restaurants, but then again there has been so much inflation lately, and I'm sure other restaurants have also increased their prices. So, as unfortunate as it is, I think it's pretty expected now that all restaurants would be a bit more pricey nowadays. It was $100 give or take total. read more

This restaurant should be shut down for good... I ate at this restaurant recently and was appalled by how dirty it was, especially the restroom. I've never seen such a dirty restaurant restroom in San Francisco. We started with vegetarian egg rolls. They arrived under-cooked and just not very tasty. For my entree, I ordered the simple mixed vegetables with tofu and told the server "no mushrooms" to which they said there were none in the dish. When it arrived? Mushrooms all through it. The tofu didn't taste good either and I basically just ate the rice that came with it, which tasted fine. No complaints about the rice. Anyway, yes, the food was on the cheaper side, but the restaurant ambiance was poor and the staff didn't make me feel very welcomed. I will never return to this restaurant again. Lastly, I wanted to see what their health score was after being so grossed out eating there. Oh geez, it's bad. Apparently, the restaurant was shut down by the health department in December. The inspection report states, "Observed live adult cockroach laying egg on finger of glove located on shelf above 2 basin food prep sink in kitchen. Observed numerous cockroach egg cases, and feces on shelf. Observed approximately 5 juvenile cockroaches on shelf where stainless steel paneling is separating from wall." Barf! I really regret dining at Tai Chi and definitely think it's time for the restaurant to cease operations. read more

This is my go-to spot for Chinese delivery. Every time the food is plentiful, fresh, not greasy, and just plain great! The Crab Rangoons are sometimes too sweet, but otherwise I love anything I order from here, with plenty of left over meals for lunches to take to work. I've, admittedly, never dined in. This place is delicious. The "feel" of the restaurant might not be for everybody but if you want good authentic Chinese food, this is the place. It has its flies and the cutlery and tea pot might not be as shiny as other places (if at all shiny), but makes up for its lack of aesthetics with authenticity. The price is fairly standard and on the lower end if you order the lunch specials. A sweet and sour soup comes with the special and it has HEAT. It is not a sharp spicy burn, but rather a firm savory warm heat. I ordered a sweet and sour pork that was just the right amount of sweet and perfectly cooked. The texture was amazing. The crunchy exterior was covered with sauce and gave away to a soft and tender interior. Dining in is a must for some of the dishes they offer. The crunchy saucy pork was no longer as crunchy by the end of the meal, and that's just a consequence of the dish and no fault of the restaurant. Getting to the restaurant is also a bit difficult since there is no private lot and you must either park on the streets a couple blocks away or in one of the nearby paid lots. Overall, the food is delicious and definitely worth what you pay for. Judging by some other reviews, it looks like it's a roulette with what you get. However, if you're willing to risk it, get in there and try a dish out yourself. read more

This place has been a staple in SF eatery for well over 20 plus years. It may not be the posh establishments like some others places in the city, but what it lacks in ambience, the taste and flavor of their dishes compensates for it. It was open on Christmas the Chinese Christmas legend was true, great crowd and lots of good food, many dishes to choose from. I got there at 5pm just before the rush. I had fresh made potstickers they were plump and tasted very well seasoned. With just a little crisp on one side just like I like it. If you ever want food food served up in just a 5-10 minute wait.
